The Best Restaurants in Ocean City, New Jersey

"Capo Strada is one of the newer restaurants to open its doors in Ocean City and has been receiving rave reviews ever since. This 9th Street dining destination serves up a wide array of Italian delicacies, made in-house, including the spicy salsiccia pizza, chicken parmigiana, and veal saltimbocca. The muffuletta sandwich featuring housemade bread filled with Italian meats, cheeses, and olive tapenade, is so big, you’ll have to share it with a friend or two." - Kristen Kwiatkowski

We dined in at Capo Strada and had such a great experience! The food was so flavorful and well seasoned, plus the wait staff was super friendly. Would make a great meal for dine in or take out!

Martha Olvera

Google
Absolutely loved this place! As a New Yorker with high pizza standards, I can confidently say this is some of the best pizza I’ve had even by NYC standards. The fish and pasta dishes tasted homemade, fresh, and full of flavor. What really set this restaurant apart was how welcoming and accommodating they were with our little ones. Traveling with young kids and a baby isn’t always easy, but the staff made us feel right at home. Our waitress went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. A true gem in New Jersey we’ll definitely be back!

Google
Wow. The plates of pasta we were given were huge. We got the Alfredo, the penne, and a margherita pizza. We shared each between 3 people, and have plenty to take with us even though we left full. Each dish was delicious, and came piping hot to eat. The servers were nice, and checked on us frequently. There’s so much potential here.

Google
Wow! YUMMY pizza. We have been here a few times. Today we tried the Brooklyn Square Thin Crust Pizza with sausage added. The sausage was crumbled. The ratio of sauce, cheese, basil and sausage was perfect. The crust was thin and crunchy which we loved. We started with the Arugula salad. The salad was huge - perfect for sharing. The ingredients were fresh and delicious. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available. The service was fast and friendly!

Google
Given Capo has become one of our go-to for take out I wanted to update this review. Food is and has remained consistently good since opening, and it's nice to find some vegetables on menus in OC. So pleased the owners have built a following, as we always compare notes on what's good with our friends at OC Thrift. While we have yet to dine in-side the offering are consistent and tasty. We look forward to seeing new menu items in the years to come. 2023: Great first try. Had two of their sandwiches. High quality ingredients. Note to owners, consider a sign that says everything is made fresh to order. If it takes 20-30min just tell people that. We’ll wait for good food. And that is what you are making. We will try again when you have the roast pork and rest of the menu active. Best of luck!

Google
The food here is absolutely amazing. Finding places to eat near the beach that are decently priced are hard but this should definitely be an option. The food wasn’t crazily priced especially for the amazing, authentic quality and large serving sizes of everything. The inside is a bit small but I definitely, wholeheartedly believe everyone should try here at least once! There is a gratuity for large groups though.

Google
It's a small restaurant but what it lacks in space, it makes up for in flavor. The pasta was delicious and the portions were huge. They gave us so much that we actually bought a microwave for the week (our condo didn't have one) just so we could eat the leftovers. We had chicken marsala and penne with vodka (added sausage) and they were both phenomenal. Highly reccomend.

Google
I was there 3 times - first time the credit card machine didn't work. Second time the ac was broken and water dripping from the ceiling. Third time my friend and I both ordered calzones. Almost all of the tables were taken and everyone was complaining bc food wasn't coming out. A guy sitting next to me asked what we ordered bc the waiter was walking around with food and didn't remember who ordered it! They brought us 1 calzone and 1 pizza! So we basically waited over 2 hours for the wrong order. And the food sucked! Save your money or go somewhere else!

Yelp
Amazing food amazing service now our go to restaurant for dinner out a must when on y the island

Carol L.

Yelp
Excellent gravy and porchon sizes extremely large. Highly recommended!!!! Service was exceptional! Need to expand a little or let people know to make reservations!
google avatar

Steve K.

Yelp
We got two variations of chicken cutlet hoagies. Decent but very average. Service was good. Timing was good. pricing on par for the Island. I would definitely go back again.

Ron S.

Yelp
Cute little corner place with indoor or outdoor seating. The staff is very friendly. The food was incredible from the caprese salad to the eggplant pomodoro as appetizers. The dishes of eggplant parm, chicken parm, chicken fettuccine Alfredo and the orrecchiette pasta were all very good. The only thing that would make it 5 stars for me is if they gave us some bread or rolls with it to pick up some of the sauces. This might be the only Italian restaurant I've been to without bread of some type. But still good enough to come back.

David M.

Yelp
Recommended to us and had good food and service. Would go back on another visit. Meatballs were the best ever had in a long time
google avatar

Alex T.

Yelp
Did takeout because it was a Saturday. Got a cheesesteak and order of meatballs. Meatballs are very good and recommend them. Cheesesteak was a bit disappointing. Amount of meat was skimpy for $15. Kind of thrown together. Disappointing. Won't order again unless someone has a picture of how they are supposed to look. It did taste good, but sorry it's not consistent with the other things we have gotten there.

Adam A.

Yelp
Amazing food! I really enjoyed the long hot appetizer which was so unique: savory, tangy , spicy salty in all the right ways. We were invited in out of the rain this evening w/friendly and warm service. Wedding soup had such a depth of flavor in the broth!! The veal Parmesan was exactly as it should be and the Stromboli with pepperoni and cheese was both massive and delicious. We wish we had room for the cannoli afterwards. Do not miss out on this delicious place!

Lori C.

Yelp
Awesome food and service. Delicious and hot. Marlee was a great server! Thank you Marlee

Yelp
Sept '24 We ate in, dinner for two but were immediately disappointed in the inexperienced two young servers who couldn't bring water, silverware or menus. The girls were not well trained to interact with customers, and we could barely communicate with one of them. The Caesar salad was delicious! However, my sausage filled pepper went right through me! Barely made it to the music pier restroom! We won't be going back.
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
Kinda disappointed. Service was fine, but I have eaten here before a few times and the food was excellent. This time, something was missing. Not sure I can put my finger on it. A different cook perhaps??? I have had, and loved, the Il Amore hot panino. I ordered it tonight but it just wasn't as good. It had all the same ingredients, but something about how it tasted was less satisfying than in the past. Don't get me wrong, it was good, just not great. I can't say I won't be back. Maybe it was just an off night. Oh, and the music, 50's pop? What the heck? Where is Sinatra? Dino? The ambiance would be so much better with a more appropriate selection of Italian music.

Yelp
Good staple Italian restaurant in OCNJ. My wife got penne vodka with Shrimp. The sauce was pretty good. The size and portions of shrimp were generous. I got the Orreciette and Broccoli Rabe and sausage in a garlic and oil sauce. It was a pleasant surprise. Pasta was cooked perfect and the sauce and sausage were tasty. The Rabe added great flavor too and was cooked just right. We love their bread. It was busy and pretty full. Service was decent but running a few too many tables, so not quite as attentive to detail but was trying. We will do it again.

Emily L.

Yelp
Good new spot for OC! Everything looks pretty good. We got the roast pork, Italia (chicken cutlet sandwich), and a Stromboli. The Stromboli is huge (which it should be for $24). I would like to try their pizzas too some time. The Italia sandwich was very good and I would recommend it over the roast pork. It took pretty long to come out. Bread is nothing too special. Pricing is average and comparable to other places on the island. Sizes are generous. Definitely more of a take out spot but it is hard to get a call in to order sometimes.

Lawrence F.

Yelp
Ordered eggplant appetizer 1st then chicken Marsala and chicken piccata. After 35 minutes the eggplant and piccata came out but no Marsala. Waitress said kitchen just told her they were out of mushrooms so no Marsala. I declined ordering something else because of how slow the kitchen was and how easily overwhelmed the waitress was. No refills on drinks nor check back on how our food was. Had to go in and request bread plates, napkins and silverware 10 minutes after she dropped bread at our table with nothing else. Just a poor overall experience. Avoid.
google avatar

Stoopid S.

Yelp
GREAT corner spot near everything! Food is really good and defo brings the homemade taste. We had the Arancini....light and crispy. Also order the Stromboli....f*kking huge! And just awesome. Really good pastry wrapped around super fresh ingredients and ground sausage. Treat yourself!! There was only one person working and he was killing it. Taking care of us and our killer food and taking phone orders and greeting people
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
We've been waiting to try this place in ocean city! The manager who greeted us and made our food grew up working at Vince's Pizza (for those familiar with the Philly based pizzeria) so we will definitely return to try the pizza! The sandwiches were amazing; bread delivered fresh from AC each morning. Light, crispy, airy feel. The chicken and toppings were so complimentary. That salad was so delicious! The beets were so good, the goat cheese nice and creamy without being overpowering and the walnuts were delicious!

Khrystine W.

Yelp
The bottom was just as burnt. I know they looked at it and went..." This don't look right" but proceeded to put it in the box and charge me $26 anyway. Not happy.
google avatar

Mark D.

Yelp
The crust on the pizza was over cooked and lacked flavor. The toppings were ok. They were understaffed so the wait was long. We did take away so we ended up seated outside which was pleasant. In their defense it was Labor Day weekend and they were packed/very busy. A hard time to find employees.
google avatar

Sophia W.

Yelp
So yummy! My favorite things are the wedding soup and chicken cutlets. Highly recommended Capo Strada

Bill S.

Yelp
Good food, wait staff are very nice. Ordered a Stromboli the last time we were there. One of the best on the island.

Ted A.

Yelp
Great sit and people watch spot, while enjoying the cool night (almost) Ocean breeze. Waitress Zeynep was attentive and responsive. Italian wedding soup bowl was almost meal size, and with combination of traditional meat balls, along with chicken and vegetables was tasty and hearty. Our eggplant parmigiana was large enough to share, the pasta was done perfectly and the sauce was fresh with just enough spices. The eggplant was barely breaded (good!) and exceptionally tender and flavorful. According to my wife, "one of best Ocean City meals I have had" (and we are locals.
google avatar

PJ S.

Yelp
Enjoyed a wonderful lunch. Great personable and friendly service. Great food too. Spaghetti and Meatballs was o e if the best I've had. We also enjoyed the exquisite Italian Wedding Soup that was perfect. We'll be back as often as we can
google avatar

Steve Z.

Yelp
I want this place to succeed so bad. First of all, it s local. I m tired of going to Ventura s off the island for good Italian take out. Called twice at 11:00... no answer. Stopped by a little past 11:00, no one there. Third attempt closer to 12:00 success. First take out was eggplant parmigiana- off the chart good. Second attempt was a little disappointing. No vodka sauce as advertised. The marinara was a little sweet and the meatballs with a touch of too much garlic. I realize taste appeal for gravy and meatballs vary based on what you were raised on. Definition will go back as Luigi s is nothing more than egg noodles with ketchup.
google avatar

Rachel P.

Yelp
Awesome little place we just found today. New hidden gem in OCNJ. Food might take a little longer then some places but well worth it. The food is made fresh to order it and flavorful. Meatballs were delicious. I'll definitely be going back to try a Polpette panino (meatball parm sandwich) because the meatballs were very good. Also I wanted to try the arancini but they were sold out so I will be back to try them as well! Also our waitress was amazing and we had great service from her, wish I had her name for her boss to see in the review. This place will definitely be a spot I will visit when I come to OCNJ.

Erin K.

Yelp
Best Caesar salad in Ocean City! Not overly garlicky, has a different flavor. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Patti M.

Yelp
Another fantastical experience at Capo Strada Italian Street Food. Perfect weather outside, delicious flavors exiting the kitchen, every time we visit! (Or pick up to take home!) This time, we had the Beet and Walnut Salad, The Escarole and Bean Salad and Caprese Salad! The dipping Balsamic Glaze was so so good!

Linda C.

Yelp
We ordered ahead from this place hoping to skip the lines as OC is always busy at dinner time -- we had to wait on a line that was 5 families deep -- when it was finally our turn ( some 10) minutes later -- we finally got our food -- by the time we got home it was greasy and cold for sitting for some time -- when we ordered online we were told 25 mins which was fine but not sure how long it was sitting before we got it -- would not recommend their order ahead option -- to stand in the line to get the food hot and fresh
google avatar

Kathleen K.

Yelp
Fantastic food and such a wonderful addition to OC. I have eaten in and ordered take out several times. Everything is absolutely delicious! The Pizza is the best on the island, hands down. The sandwiches are enormous and so good. Try the muffaletta, you'll think you were in New Orleans!
google avatar

Sue W.

Yelp
First time going to Capo Strada and we had planned on dining in until we saw how small the room was so we decided to get takeout instead. The gentleman behind the counter was nice and knew what he was doing. We ordered the veal saltimbocca and eggplant parm and they were both delicious. My husband said his veal was off the charts and ate every bit of it. My mother-in-law and I shared the huge portion of eggplant parm which came with perfectly-cooked bucatini--SO GOOD! And I can't leave out the italian wedding soup. It was by far the best IW soup I ever had - from scratch and flavorful yumminess! Next visit will be for the pepperoni pie and pork sandwich and probably a repeat of what we had today!

Eric D.

Yelp
Pizza is the best I've ever had. I got the traditional round pie. The crust is the best I've ever tasted. It has some different qualities about it that just keep you wanting more! Such amazing quality ingredients!

Jill G.

Yelp
The food here is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. Our service was excellent and the food came out hot and fast! I recommend adding a chicken cutlet to the Caesar salad. Small seating area but all around great food!
google avatar

Jane D.

Yelp
i've been thinking about it and i was just wayyyyyyy too generous last time. updating my review to one star because two was too nice.

JT R.

Yelp
Even though the food was really great, the service was very slow and we were ignored. Inside looked cool, but one of the waitresses had short term memory loss. Skip this place and head across the street to Maria's it is a better experience.

Sandy M.

Yelp
Enjoyed a great dinner! The food was excellent! My chicken parmigiana was one of the freshest I've had. The meatballs were equally delicious. The pasta was perfectly al dente. Highly recommend a meal here!

Emily N.

Yelp
Really good italian food, delicious shrimp scampi and chicken parm. my family loves it here. great service
google avatar

Tammy C.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night and sat inside to eat. I ordered penne with vodka sauce (it was pretty good, but next time I'd omit the fresh herbs on top), my husband and daughter ordered a cheese pie (they don't serve slices), and my other daughter ordered the cold panino called "la famiglia muffaletta" (which is HUGE and can easily satisfy 4 adults and makes sense that it was $23). Around 25 minutes after placing our order, my penne with vodka came out and our waitress told us that they can't make the plain pizza that we ordered because they were too backed up with orders. She was obviously a new waitress but the manager or head of the kitchen had so much nerve to have our waitress communicate this to us. We were MORTIFIED for her. What place cancels a dine-in food order 25 minutes after ordering?! I would've thought we'd be priority over to-go orders (which they were flooded with). Since being told we won't get a pizza, my husband and daughter left and walked to find dinner elsewhere but ended up coming back to share spaghetti with meatballs. After they were served, my other daughter was still waiting for her sandwich. It was such a terrible experience and unfortunately we weren't the only ones. If the manager or owner reads this, PLEASE don't send the waitress to do your dirty work of telling us that the kitchen can't fulfill our order (25 minutes after ordering). Come and apologize to the customers yourself and perhaps throw in some complimentary food or offer a discount for the majorly unprofessional kitchen service.

Jack P.

Yelp
i thought i posted a review about this place last week but yelp lost it or i cant find. We saw it rated highly on yelp and so gave it a try, easily at the top of the OCNJ food chain, (I know its not a high bar but still this place was excellent) we only shared a meatball/ricotta app and a roast pork/broccoli rabe sandwich are were stuffed. we will be back.

Steven D.

Yelp
We had takeout on Memorial day weekend in OC. Wonderful and friendly service (kudos to Katrina who runs the take out). Great food. Get the meatballs as a sandwich or on the side. They have filled the hole left by the departure of Voltaco's . Best Italian take out in OCNJ.

Paul O.

Yelp
Food and service were excellent There was something great for everyone and at a fair price .
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
The food here is incredible! Portions are huge so either bring a few friends or wear stretch pants. Staff was kind & friendly. I really want to give this place 5 stars and the only thing holding me back was lack of AC in the dinning room - it's way to hot off the boardwalk to have an establishment with no air conditioning and the fly situation outside that is also a tad bit inside kinda turned me off BUT the food , the food , the food is Fantastic! They have take out: but make sure to call ahead.

Kate D.

Yelp
Great food & the ambiance is so cute! The people working there are very nice as well!

Renee R.

Yelp
I called at 4:30 pm and someone answered and said "can I put you on a brief hold?" I said "sure". I sat for 20 minutes waiting for someone to come back to the phone. All they did was place the phone on the counter and walk away. My husband kept trying to call as well, but it goes to voicemail. So they say you can place an order for pick up but in reality they don't allow that to happen. Very disappointing
google avatar

Larissa R.

Yelp
This place is perfect for any of your italian food cravings food is delicious and portions are huge i even had leftovers !! You can definitely tell the food is very fresh and my server Alana was so sweet, quick and checked on us all night long and made some great recommendations, most tender meatballs ive ever had. Only reason i rated 4/5 was because it was way too hot in the actual restaurant, i came in on tuesday and was a puddle by the end of my meal and i could see other people looked uncomfortable as well but thats my only complaint, i will be back and hopefully next time the air will be on!

Joe F.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place, and looked forward to getting take-out, maybe this restaurant will fill the Voltaco's void? Sadly, a disappointment pretty much all around. OK- if you're from the Midwest, or a place that has no Italian food, you'll love it here - solid servings, and they seem to take care in their presentation -- the food looks delicious (Like the posted pictures that seemed mouth-watering). People enjoy it. Happy reviews. If you're local like our family, or live in the metro area, you'll find it under-seasoned. Way. Meh. The "classico" pizza was, well, weird. Not NY style, not boardwalk style, some kinda "no" style. Meatball had no meat flavor, weird filler. It was enormous!! Big, almost-half cloves of garlic in the sauce was a way weird mouth-feel. (Surprise!) Ugh. We picked up on time, and food was room temperature. Fam was under-whelmed. I guess I have to lower my expectations.

Rob C.

Yelp
Excellent food! Had a great meal and my waitress Alana was beyond Exceptional. I'll be back Update: went back this week. Food and service great again. Mr. Owner..... you gotta turn the A/C on or up. I can't eat while sweating my Ass off. I think it was Hotter inside the restaurant than outside Turn up the air CHEAPO ! You might be off my "go to" list in Ocean City
google avatar

Lana V.

Yelp
We had the spinach and mozzarella Stromboli and it was definitely the best I've ever had. We also had an order of broccoli rabe and beans with escarole. Both cooked and seasoned to perfection.

Dyanna C.

Yelp
A new OCNJ favorite!!! We got the Caesar salad and eggplant parm. Asked if we could get some bread and he gave us an entire baguette (so good) and dipping oil. Everything was 10/10, can't wait to try more on the menu. Only took 20 minutes from when we ordered and was only $30! You can't tell from the picture but the portions were huge
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
Having just returned to Ocean City for the summer, we tried this restaurant for the first time. My wife ordered the orecchiette with Sausage and broccoli rabe. I hade the spaghetti with meatballs. Both were excellent but, I have to say, the sausage was some of the best I've had. Service was great and we will certainly be returning. Give it a try.

J S.

Yelp
I'm writing this review while I'm still sitting at the table. Delicious delicious delicious. Some of the best Italian food I've had in a long long time. Chicken parm outstanding. Orichette with broccoli rabe fabulous. Even the bread was delicious. If you're going off carbs, do it here. It's worth the cheat. Wait staff great too. Fast service. Everything great.

John Q.

Yelp
Tried it for the first time, and likely last. Slow, impersonal, and burnt describes my experience. When I arrived to the counter to pickup my order the workers just ignored me. It wasn't busy. They saw me. I guess it wasn't there job to manage takeout orders. It took over 5 minutes before someone came to the counter to greet me. Of course the pizza was not ready on-time and I waited an additional 10-15 minutes before it was done. Then things got worse. I got home and opened the pizza and it was clearly burnt. We ate a few slices and threw the rest in the trash. The pizza never should have been served.
