Where to Eat in Kensington and Chelsea | Eater London

"Go for a Kensington dinner southern European-style at this Andalusian bar on Old Brompton Road. It’s the kind of place to settle in for a few hours — tapas of jamon, croquettas, patatas bravas, padron peppers, gambas, and pulpo — to the backdrop of live flamenco music." - Alexander Larman

Celebrate a day canvassing southern European style with a glass of sherry (there are 125 to choose from) at this Andalusian bar on Old Brompton Road. Best Sherry Bars in London for Fino, Oloroso, and Pedro Ximenez | Eater London

"When confronted with possibly the most comprehensive sherry list in the city, defer to the experts: Capote’s expert bartenders are the perfect guides in finding the right drink for the occasion. Full marks for atmosphere here too – Spanish guitar twiddles in the background, and there are rumours of impromptu dancing and singing from the chefs." - Johanna Derry

Best Spanish restaurant in London. The food was amazing and the staff very friendly.

Once and last time at this restaurant. I visited 3 Capote y Toros Ltd on Brompton Road, London, and was very disappointed by the poor management and unprofessional, confused staff. From the start, we felt unwelcome as new customers. The waiters seemed offhand and , mostly because of the poor management who was — rude and unprofessional. We were shocked to be charged £13 per glass for house wine, which is absurd. The food was very average; nothing special at all. The so-called Spanish tapas consisted of basic items like bread and tomato, with no real quality to justify the price. What truly ruined the experience was the manager raising his voice and arguing with us over a simple request to move us from an outdoor to an indoor table. And offered using the bar which was messy and not clean !!The customer service was offhand , humiliating, and completely unacceptable — especially given the restaurant’s location, which deserves much better. This was my first and definitely last visit. Overall, I rate this place zero stars. A complete disappointment.

Probably the best Spanish tapas around. Pricey but you can get a seat at the bar and enjoy wine and something simple. Note that the kitchen is next door, shared with the place next door.

Delicious Spanish restaurant nested in the heart of South Kensington. Great ambiance with live guitarist roaming through the 3 group of restaurants and amazing staff/service. A little pricey but worth the experience.

Soooo delicious!! Best tapas we’ve ever had. Definitely pricey, but so worth is. My favorites were the tacos with potato on it, the chicken croquettes, and the Spanish tortilla. Will definitely go back if in the area again!

Outstanding 👌🏽👏 we went for valentine's dinner to Capote and Toros and I have to say we had a lovely time. The service from the gentleman from Ecuador (Quito) was excellent, really friendly and kind, as so for the rest of the staff the lady working there and the other guy too. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed, and food was tasty. The price is what you would expect in this south kensington hotspot area. I only wish the portions were slightly bigger. Overall 10 out of 10, delicious!!

Yelp
Wonderful Spanish restaurant in South Kensington. Our party booked a last minute dinner reservation on a Sunday evening. Glad we did because it was a full house by the time we left. We opted for indoor sheeting and the decor was that of a trendy restaurant in Spain. Bold wall colors and eclectic art. The staff was super attentive and informative about wine selections/recommendations. We ordered tapas instead of main courses. The salmon nigiri was unexpected from the menu but fantastic. The patatas bravas were in a reimagined state that at first glance had me wondering if some ingredients were missing. I stood corrected the minute I tried a piece - the "brava" sauce component is cleverly disguised and each portion was the perfect bite. Some other favorites were the pan con tomate, ham croquettes, and oxtail sliders. Overall, the ambience and meal was excellent. I would not classify this as a fusion restaurant, because they've stuck quite close to the mark when it comes to traditional Spanish tapas, but they've definitely put a modern spin on the classics and added some innovate new offerings.

Yelp
Food and service good. Be warned their cancellation policies are draconian!!! Don't believe them if they say they will waive the 50 pound per person !! cancellation fee if you reschedule. They won't and are sloppy in their communications. I got duped.

Yelp
So as we were browsing the windows of the 3 related restaurants in the area, Luis came outside and beckoned us in to give the place a try. We had just finished eating across the road so we said perhaps another time. He said, just have a glass of sherry with us..so we obliged. Great move! We had a glass of very nice sherry and struck up some interesting conversations with our server Eric, with the aforementioned Luis and then subsequently with the guitar player, also named Luis. We felt so at home here, it was like we were old friends by the time we left after wine and some olives and ham. We will definitely come back to spend an evening here again. I can't see why this wouldn't be the go to hangout in Kensington. Or maybe it is and lucked out on a slow night.

Yelp
I've walked by this group of restaurants several times and have always wondered about the business rationale of having 3 related restaurants of the same cuisine right next to each other. At some point, wouldn't you wonder why they just don't try to get adjacent units and knock the wall down? They have tried to differentiate each venue slightly by doing themes, and I visited Capote y Toros, the sherry and jamon bar of the group last night for a quick bite in the neighbourhood. It has a pretty casual vibe, but I would describe it more as a restaurant than a bar. At one point in the meal, one of the staff members brought over fresh bread from one of the other restaurants, which we found pretty funny. There was only one other group of diners in the restaurant around 8 PM on a Tuesday, and when they left, it was my friend and I and just the six staff members, one of which was playing guitar. They might be a bit overstaffed for quiet weekday evenings, to say the least. As for the food, it's recommended at the top of the menu to order 3 to 4 tapas per person. I found that pretty helpful, since it's usually one of the first things I ask when visiting a sharing plates type of restaurants. We got the 8 hours roast tomatoes and the padron peppers from the vegetable section; the iberico pork cheeks and bone marrow from the meat section; and the calamari and octopus from the fish section. I think jamon and cheese is fairly standard and I can have that all the time, so preferred to go for more interesting dishes that take skill to prepare. I especially enjoyed the 8 hours roast tomatoes and the bone marrow, which were new things I had never tried before. The roast tomatoes were full of flavour and a very interesting pairing with blue cheese and basil; definitely worth a try, though I don't think I'd be in a rush to order it again. I would recommend the bone marrow, though, which really hit the spot when paired with the spicy tomato sauce on toast. The staff said that it wasn't for everyone, but I really enjoyed it. The other great thing about the dining experience was that they had a good selection of half bottles of wine, that literally come as a mini bottle, and you are not just poured from half of an already opened bottle. However, it is not cheap, as these half bottles already set you back over £20. Most of the tapas are £6-8, which is ok for the more interesting dishes, but a little bit less exciting for a basic dish like Spanish tortilla that in Spain would cost you 2 euros. Overall I'd say it's a decent place, but probably not a destination restaurant worth venturing to if you are not already based in the area.

Yelp
Seconds after sitting down, waiter our new best friend - wonderful service, buzzing atmosphere, great food. And best sherry selection in London.
