The food was pretty good. My burrito lacked a little in flavor but it was huge. The salsa and the hot sauce helped it a ton. The fresh fruit was was fresh and actually really good. Our service was great and the coffee was solid diner type coffee. They’ve got lattes coming soon which will be a great addition.

This is such a staple! It’s old school cozy with a traditional menu - the burrito is one of my favorite items. I love biking over for brunch on the weekends. The staff is always friendly, short wait times, and solid food!

Finally decided to come in after driving by the amazing establishment in multiple different occasions. During my visit we decided to order the steak and eggs with the home fries & sausage skillet. Everything was delicious and definitely looking forward to our next visit.

I would say that this is my favorite diner in Newport Beach. I say diner because it is like a traditional American diner, not so much a retro diner. It’s located on beautiful 101 in North Newport Beach. Very close to the HB border. Parking is really easy, they have a free lot attached on both sides of the restaurant. Inside is also very large with two different dining areas, as well as many different type of seating options from booth, to table, to counter. The menu is also awesome, it has a lot of unique items on it and it’s the sort of place where you can get something new each time. Our server was very polite but there was a bit of a delay getting our food items out, but it was very busy when we stopped in for Saturday morning brunch. The food quality and taste here really beats out the competition. Everything that we ordered was honestly fantastic. I ordered the Seafood Benny with Wild Caught Crab Meat and switched to the thick cut sourdough toast as the bottom, which I would recommend. The crab was fresh, the hollandaise had great flavor, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I honestly loved every bit of this dish and would highly recommend ordering it. I am eager to stop in again next time I am down in the OC area.

My husband couldn’t stop raving over what a deal the pancake contest was. So, when we neeIded to be by Huntington one morning -we totally needed to drag the kids for breakfast again. Parking was seamless for us coming just an hour after open, but the parking lot is pretty tight and I can only imagine how packed it could be later on in the day. Spacious dining room with a covered patio in the back for additional seats outside. Typical American Diner vibes, wooden dining sets- TVs with sports channels and a menu that goes on for ages. I had ordered the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs - ($23) - portions are huge here, food was underwhelming. Cold Brew tasted burnt and was lukewarm at best. My husband got their Huevos Ranchero, the only commendable item was the refired beans. Our friend had either eggshells or crab shells in her omelet. Both kids opted for french toast, with a side of bacon. I don’t know who thought crisping the bacon until jerky would have been a good idea for a kids menu item but the kids for once weren’t excited about their bacon. As underwhelming as the food was, our server left more of a sour note than the food. As she was taking 1 cleared plate, while asking for refills on drinks while a majority for the table was still eating. She made a point to ask if we needed any boxes as well while dropping our bill. On her next check in- not even a couple minutes after; she dropped the box on the table and again asked if we needed anything else. By now, we’re checking to make sure there wasn’t a crazy line, or if the restaurant just picked up without us noticing. Several empty tables- with no line. We felt rushed for no reason. Aside from our main server pushing us to leave, the hostess was very warm and inviting. Can’t say i’d be back.

Had to take my aunt to a doc appointment early. I'm not to familiar with this area but found this great place. Food 10/10 service perfect. Just what I needed that morning. I will be returning. Thank you guys for a great breakfast

Google
The food portions are huge and quite tasty; the build your own omelette was stuffed with red peppers, bacon and mushrooms and topped with delicious guacamole. The secret bread: squaw! Will be back!

Google
Cappy’s is a neighborhood institution that’s been here for decades and very popular with the locals. Meals are hearty, delicious, and at a reasonable price for the portion. I had an egg white omelette with chicken, mushrooms, guacamole, and pico de gallo, with potatoes and corn tortillas. Parking however can be tight.

Yelp
Love love love Cappys! Friendly service, yummy food, and so many different menu options. Cappys gets pretty busy, but they have plenty of seating so it goes by quick. Love everything from their breakfast burrito, omelettes and pancakes. You really cant go wrong with anything on the menu. Would definitely recommend if youre in Newport!

Yelp
Stopped into Cappys Cafe on a Friday morning. They're a popular spot so it was busy but that's to be expected for brunch. They have a great menu with plenty of options and I like how they have smaller portion plates available if you aren't in the mood for a huge meal. I ordered the grilled fish taco plate. My boyfriend ordered pancakes, two eggs, and bacon. The portions are huge here so come hungry. The food was tasty and the quality was good. The service was great. The hostesses and servers were all friendly and moved quickly.

Yelp
I came here for blueberry pancakes NOT a 10 minute wait to get my drink order, and a 20 minute wait for get my food, and for my waitress GABBY to YELL at me after i mentioned the inconvenient wait. I won't be back. EVER. Newport Beach LOCAL here and a blueberry pancake lover. Peace out. Oh, and the house water is TERRIBLE tastes like chemicals.

Yelp
Cappys has been around a long time. Great place to have breakfast, especially for locals that can easily walk there. Food is good. It's a big breakfast. I usually get omelette, hash browns and bagel with cream cheese. Very popular on the weekends - expect a wait. We show-up around 12:30 - usually no wait then. The coffee is not excellent. The water could be better too. The staff always friendly when we visit

Yelp
Quick service, cozy diner vibe, clean. I ordered the quick n easy add avocado and half order of cinnamon roll French toast. Delicious! I'm not a sweet persons but this was so unique and yummy and felt fresh. Highly recommend!

Yelp
When my husband has his Doctors appointment in Newport Beach we always come to Cappy's! They are always super friendly & the food is top notch! We tried the sausage patties & egg breakfast & it was delicious! Coffee is always hot and they have all the special creamers that we love

Yelp
Saw a tiktok the other day and thought I need to try this place. I love breakfast and this quaint little restaurant did not disappoint. Super cute , nice indoor and outdoor seating. I tried the ham scramble and it was big. If you are a small eater you could definitely share this. The sourdough toast was a generous size and just lightly toasted (exactly how I like it). A big plus, they have orange marmalade I will definitely be bringing my friends and family here. Remember to do random acts of kindness as it will make everyone feel wonderful. Happy Yelping, please follow me for more awesome reviews

Yelp
Thank you Ann for your excellent service. My mom and I came here based on a yelp search and are happy we did. Located along PCH near the Ocean Cappys Cafe is one to visit. With ample parking and great variety of menu options to choose from there is something for everyone. When I visited recently, i choose a mexican tostada salad because i love the crispy shell. My mom ordered the fish n chips. I would give my item 3/5 because compared to Ricardos im SJ, this one lacked the flavor, the ingrediants and was more expensive and lacked the value. Maybe its the location/demographic. Not horrible , just "meh". My moms order was better. Chunky fish in beer batter with onion rings instead of fries. The onion rings were bomb! Crispy. Large, and sooo good! The quality of the fish was equally good. Reminded me of fish and chips consumed on the southern hemisphere . I would skip the tostada salad and make way for other items.

Yelp
A long time staple on PCH, Cappy's has been serving up decent breakfast (and lunch) since 1982. Kewl surf city vibe both by decor and clientele. Pancakes are super huge and scrumptious with a hint of sugar and vanilla. Recommend! My sister and I split the CA omelette that was chock-a-block full of bacon. The cheese and avo were on top. I actually used some of the avo to smash on top of the toast then used 2 poached eggs from the pancake combo to make avocado toast! Price was a little steep ($54 for 2 entrees + 20% tip). Def friendly and attentive servers. Would I go back? Yup. Really good breaky.

Yelp
Service is top-notch ! We like to be before is crowded! Crab omelette and shrimp omelette are delicious. Beautiful people. Hot and fresh coffee.
google avatar

Yelp
Mmm those French toast cinnamon rolls were BOMB. I think these are the best cinnamon rolls in OC hands down. Obviously they aren't like your classic Cinnabon experience, but the mashup between French toast and cinnamon buns is amazing. Would recommend - the portion sizes are big too!

PEARL S.

Yelp
I came here because I had a great experience last time, but definitely not great. The clam chowder is basically corn chowder. We came on a weekday late morning. It wasn't packed at all, but it took forever to get our order. They did have a tasty prime rib sandwich. $25
google avatar

Virginia S.

Yelp
The servers are all so friendly the outside seating and inside are always clean. The food is all yummy you can't go wrong with nothing pn the menu
google avatar

Nicole H.

Yelp
Similar to a Denny's, I just get a major Denny's vibe except way pricier, so I won't go back. When I walked inside, it felt like I was in the Midwest or South. We went on a Sunday morning at 9, and it was packed. It's like an old school diner inside. There's a patio outside. They're just trying to get you in and out. I got the veggie scramble, and it was a good portion of food: lots of veggies and potatoes with very thin slices of avocado on top. It was over $20 for that one scramble. Parking isn't the easiest, so it's best if you go before 9 a.m. It's right on the street, so no view. The back patio that is on the parking lot has a small view of I don't know what, but I wasn't that impressed. However, all the servers we met were nice, accommodating, and checked on us frequently.

Yelp
Cinnamon Swirl combo is great and I love the location as it's across from the beach. I had no issue getting seated ASAP on a busy Saturday morning. Pretty much everything on their menu is good and they have many options. The servers were real sweet and checked on us periodically. There's outdoor and indoor dining. Great place to grab food on a beach day.

Yelp
What a great start to the day Cappy's café in Newport great customer service. We sat on the patio because we took Coco with us, I did walk inside. Very nice casual atmosphere. The food was great no complaints. My wife enjoyed the Machaca. My daughter said the pancakes were Fluffy and my oatmeal was great. Coffee was good ,thank you guys. Can't wait to return and try more on the menu.

Lenin T.

Yelp
I have lived in the area for a long time and honestly this place is a gem. The menu is good , available parking and dog friendly. Perfect place for brunch.
google avatar

Yelp
Did not have a good experience this time. Our server Christy was not very nice, was pushy and rushing us the entire time. At one point she took our plates away before we were done, turned to the server next to her and said ..."and THAT is how you make money" ... likely referring to turning tables faster since she literally rushed us and took our plates away. We were sat inside and the fans nect to the lights make a strobe effect, it's rather annoying and nauseating. Honestly it should come with a seizure warning. Food was good but honestly overpriced for what you get. Wish the environment and ambiance was better to make up for it.

Yelp
Party of 3 for breakfast at cappy's Cafe .we ordered drinks and followed with entrees huevos rancheros were very good 3 eggs over medium, ranchero sauce, Refried beans, on a flour tortilla substituted for the standard corn tortilla. My girlfriend had machaca and our friend had French toast. Everyone cleaned their plate. Server was attentive and frequently offered refills on our drinks as well as clearing the empty plates.
google avatar

Cindy T.

Yelp
I mean, it's just a great place c great breakfast large menu large portions. Parking can get la little bit crowded but we always manage to find a spot.. I will not recommend the Mexican menu part of it because it's not good at all, but mostly everything else is good.
google avatar

Jenny L.

Yelp
Hostess wasn't alert. Escorted us to a table by the doorway, but I politely declined and asked for a booth instead. She said it would be a 10-15 min wait. 5 minutes later, a different hostess called us for a party of 3, which was great BUT then the original hostess pointed to another couple instead and then they were escorted to a booth. Then she escorted yet another couple to a booth. When the hostess called us, she escorted us back to the exact same table that she preciously tried to give us and couldn't remember that we wanted a booth and that she told us to wait for one. S little annoying. The service was fine and the food was tasty. Probably would not go back due to the experience with the hostess. They also did not note to OpenTable that I had arrived for my reservations.

Yelp
Cappy's Cafe is one of my go-to brunch place after a hike in Newport Beach CA. Always enjoy their food and now, they have an outdoor patio so we can come and enjoy brunch with our furbaby dog. The weather was nice when we went so the outdoor patio was perfect to dine in. Service is great but food takes a while to come out. But don't worry, the wait would be worth it because their food is all very good. I am a Benny girl so I always order one of their eggs Benedict dishes. It's delicious! Parking could be a challenge if you are not patient to wait for a spot to open up but the turnaround of their customers is pretty quick so just be patient if you didn't see a parking space open.
google avatar

Yelp
The corned beef hash was average. It had little boiled pieces of potato in it that were cooked al dente and psyched me out like they were pieces of fat. It was just a weird texture thing. And then you choose what kind of potatoes you want to come with it as a side.
google avatar

Melissa T.

Yelp
We went here for breakfast around 9am, no lines and we were seated right away. Chicken Fried Steak is amazing! Servers are attentive, always checking if we need a refill on our coffee, quick serving of breakfast...we were in and out of there in less than an hour. We'll definitely come back. Thanks Cappy's Cafe!
google avatar

Irene S.

Yelp
Nice ambiance. Good was good. Service was great. Just didn't appreciate the 18% automatic gratuities on top of the tax. I had to remind them of my discount on their special Monday offering.

Jeffrey L.

Yelp
I have been coming to Cappy's for many years. The breakfasts are always good but what makes it special for me is Annie's service. She is super attentive, personable and professional. She truly cares about my experience and I always ask for her.
google avatar

Dan V.

Yelp
The staff was very nice and friendly. We had a table reserved and they were waiting for us when we walked in. The restroom is very nice and clean. The bloody Mary's really good. The fish and chips were very delicious, Quality fish for sure.
google avatar

Steve N.

Yelp
We stopped in again at one of our favorite breakfast shops in Newport. The food and service is always outstanding and the food is high quality. We were honored by Cappy's today in participating in 20% of our bill was going to be sent to the LA fire relief fund. Thank you !
google avatar

Cyndi L.

Yelp
Let me make this clear. I was dropped off with my walker at the patio. Your hostess was seeing someone on the patio. She saw me she asked if I would like a table on the patio or inside. I asked her for the patio. She then said OK give me a minute. I need to clear a few tables and went inside, she then came back out in a few minutes cleared the tables off, then looked at me and said no you need to walk inside and give us your name. There are a few people ahead of you now. Not a good experience not one I want to repeat not one I will repeat.
google avatar

Alisha O.

Yelp
Brunch was delicious! And very filling! The home style fries were very good and I liked the Parmesan on top! Country fried steak had really good gravy on top! My bf liked the omelet but he said the steak could use more seasoning, the guac was very tasty.

Tiffany N.

Yelp
The GF breakfast was overpriced and the service was below average. I got 2 eggs, 2 small pieces of bacon and seasoned home fries that were like boiled potatoes with a bunch of seasonings slapped on a plate, cold. The potatoes were gross so I only had a few bites. They weren't crispy. Get the hashbrowns instead. The place was slow and it took the server forever to even take our order. It's like they didn't know what they were doing. The place was old and stuffy inside. I will not be coming back.
google avatar

Natalie S.

Yelp
While on our staycation at Marriott's Newport Coastal Villas we went to a Cafe that was suggested to us called Cappys and it was delightful. The menu had so many different food options and the service provided was excellent and the ambiance was charming and friendly. We had the same dish except I had sausages patties and English muffins and my husband went for bacon and instead of toast he had biscuits and gravy yummy I also enjoyed a glass of Mimosa with strawberry . This place is so like that good comfort food your Mama made We will definitely be back again!

Ed C.

Yelp
Still as good as it was 25 years ago! Now visiting with my kids and they also love it! Shakas!
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
This is a well known spot on the coast. I wanted to try it and it was before heading out to the airport. The service was very good and attentive which is a plus. The food was just average and nothing worth praising. I ha ld a meat lovers omelet and as I said, it was just ok - not bad but not great. If you just want to get a breakfast that is enough to tide you over or fill your stomach then check it out. If you want something more tasty and more of an experience - I would find something else.

Evan H.

Yelp
I've been to Cappy's several times, and while I genuinely enjoy the food and the friendly service, the pricing has officially crossed into absurd. I'm sorry, but $25 for a basic breakfast plate? $7 for a small glass of juice? $5 for a few strawberries? That's not upscale - that's exploitative. There are plenty of trendy, popular brunch spots in Los Angeles (yes, LA) that charge less than this - and they're in far more expensive neighborhoods. Cappy's isn't Nobu. It's not a Michelin-starred restaurant. It's a casual brunch spot acting like it's serving gold-plated eggs. And no, the portion sizes or quality don't justify it. The food is good, but not "justify breaking the bank for eggs and toast" good. I'm not expecting diner prices, but I also shouldn't have to spend $40+ for a basic brunch. It's frustrating, because I want to keep supporting local spots like this. But at these prices, I just can't do it anymore. Cappy's is pricing out regulars in favor of those who are okay with paying luxury prices for very normal food. Until the menu becomes more reasonable, I'll be taking my brunch business elsewhere.

Yelp
I've been following this restaurant on Instagram maybe a year and I've been wanting to go but it's an hours drive from where we live. For my birthday my husband paid for a beautiful hotel in Newport Beach and the next morning. I finally asked to come here. the inside is nice, they were very crowded. The service was great and we both liked what we ordered. It was so nice. I actually asked my husband if we could come back for Easter. Problem is waking up in the morning and doing an hour drive before breakfast but if you're in the area, I highly recommend it.
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
I visited my parents last week and they couldn't stop raving about this place. I was nervous because we got their a little after 1 and they closed at 2, I really didn't want to be that customer who goes in with a larger party but they were SO friendly and welcoming. They were beyond attentive, people even came after us and they still serviced them. There's lots of seating and my oh my the food is AMAZING. I would definitely go back!
google avatar

Courtney R.

Yelp
Great diner for breakfast/brunch! All I wanted for my birthday was a good michelada and delicious huevos rancheros! Cappy's did not disappoint.
google avatar

Emma W.

Yelp
Classic breakfast location with fun ocean murals inside! Their food is always great, just pricey these days, as is everything. Their pancakes are hard to beat!

Sarah W.

Yelp
The atmosphere was definitely a highlight--super cute and cozy. It's the kind of place you'd want to sit and chat for a while. Service was excellent from start to finish. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. Our server checked in regularly without being overbearing, and everything arrived in a timely manner. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the setting. While the menu looked promising, the flavors fell flat. Most of the dishes we tried were bland and underseasoned, lacking that spark that would make us eager to come back. It's not that the food was bad--it was just underwhelming. Overall, it's a great spot for a relaxed outing, especially if you're looking for great service and a nice vibe!

Yelp
In love with the brunch here. It's very casual. PROS: 1. They offer Turkey Bacon 2. The oatmeal is made with heavy cream and fruit. It's amazing! 3. Portions are large 4. Easy parking 5. Coloring menus for kids CONS: 1. They close at 3pm

Yelp
I think I'm going to start adventure Wednesdays since getting them off but anyways enough about me let's talk about Cappys! Me, my sister, and my nephew decided to drive down here for brunch. Located on the PCH, when you do arrive just know its a quick right turn into the parking lot. Plenty of parking spaces too. We walk in and was sat immediately by our hostess. Unfortunately didn't take a picture of the menu this time around since I was starving lol. The menu is pretty extensive and their staples are noted by an anchor on the item. I opted to get the Corn Beef Hash while my sister ordered the Hamburger Steak and eggs. She decided to get it medium well. Our order took about 10 minutes or so but the first impression of the corn beef hash was it looked absolutely delicious! What I notice with the corn beef itself is the top looked crispy. My first bite into it, it really was! The corn beef along with the grilled veggies was absolutely delicious and succulent. There was some thicker pieces as well. My scrambled eggs were good but unfortunately my hash browns came out kind of cold. The sourdough toast was good as well! Crispy and with butter on it, it paired well with the jam packets. My sisters hamburgers steak was okay. It came out more well done if anything so the steak was hard to eat. The homefries though were delicious and my nephew ate those like hotcakes. Our server checked on us constantly and filled our water. Our hostess helped checked us out as well and brought a box over when requested. Both were great! The overall restaurant is pretty spacious and they have a good 80s playlist going while you eat. Plenty of tables around as well as round booths so they can sit bigger parties if you do go with a bigger group. Overall the food here is good. Some stuff came out cold and what not but overall it's just a minor complaint. With good service and a solid corn beef hash, definitely check this place out if you are in the area. Get your brunch fix going!

Yelp
The wait was long, but the food was absolutely worth the wait. Only negative is maybe parking/wait, but I was there 4th of July weekend so I'm sure it was even a little more hectic. Omelette and cinnamon french toast were amazing. One of few places that their cinnamon French toast is not too sweet, perfect blend of savory flavor! Service was great as well! Will try to visit every time I'm back in the area

Michael F.

Yelp
Best breakfast in town. Service is fast servers are awesome. You can sit outside or inside. We sat outside it was a nice sunny but cool day.

Yelp
Cappy's Cafe is on PCH in Newport Beach near Superior. Its an institution in the area known for their bfasts, burgers and good times. I had just returned from vacay, so I wanted to eat healthy and ordered a salad. The salad was ok, but I definitely ordered the wrong thing, although it was lunch time. My golf buddies ordered omelets, and they were massive. I won't that mistake next time. The ambiance is open air, and we sat outside on a hot summer day. There is inside seating also, and they serve beer & wine. Not surprisingly, the service was friendly & warm. If you are in the area, you definitely need to hit up Cappy's. Its emblematic of the laid back beach culture with its hearty portions, relaxed ambiance and friendly service.

Yelp
We had a party of 5 for breakfast on a cold and chilly morning. I ordered the Waffle combo meal and the waffle was bad. I like my waffles crispy on the outside. My waffle was not only soggy, but it tasted as though it was not cooked thoroughly. I ordered my eggs medium and they came back runny. Not a good breakfast and doubt I will return.

Yelp
Bloody Mary's top notch! Seafood Eggs Beni.... Amazing! Staff was top notch! A must on PCH!

Yelp
I'm a local and I've driven by here countless times and decided to try it before heading to work. Placed an order over the phone with a waitress named Jessica or from what I heard since it was loud. When I asked her what toppings they had for a custom omelet, she sighed and said with an attitude of inconvenience "it's a lot, it's like 20" I then asked her if she could tell me, she got smart and told me to refer to the menu, I told her that I was driving and was unable to look. She then quickly started spouting out items one after another. After I placed the order, at the end of the call, I apologized for "inconveniencing her" and she replied "yeah it's just so busy in here!" Seems like Jessica gets easily overwhelmed and takes it out on customers. Maybe she felt rushed or had too many tables but being in the service industry myself, I can understand it but find it intolerable. Sadly I will not be coming back. I'd rather give my money to an establishment that is welcoming and more than willing to give that customer service I not only provide but desire in return.
