My husband has been ordering from here for a while, but I had personally never actually had something from there until today. The food was amazing, but I'm giving it two stars because of an extremely rude and awkward customer service experience that I had. I'm leaving this review mostly so one particular worker sees it. not the one that was rude to me, but the one who was very kind and courteous in the face of the other worker's rude behavior.
I work part time doing DoorDash and an order brought me into this establishment today. As soon as I walked in, I acknowledged the people working behind the counter with a smile and "how you doing?" I was met with an adverted gaze. They completely ignored me. OK, whatever I've been in Philly/Philly suburbs a long time, I know not everyone is super courteous in these sandwich shops. So I get in line to pick up my DoorDash order and the guy behind the till very courteously asks me if it's a pick up order. I tell him yes, DoorDash and he says "one moment." About 20 seconds later he has a sandwich wrapped up in one hand and my DoorDash order in the other and says to me "hey, do you like such-and-such sandwich? We made an extra one and it's going to go in the trash if you don't take it." What he didn't know was that I hadn't actually eaten yet at that point and was starving. I thanked him and even said "you know it's so funny, I was just standing here thinking this food smelled so good and I would have to come in here another time and grab a sandwich! Don't worry, I'll still come in another time for my own order." Before I could even completely finish my statement, one of the rude people who completely ignored me when I first walked in interjected, took the sandwich out of his hand and says with a very grumpy tone "you can't just give it to her. You have to ring it up a certain way." The entire time averting my gaze. The nice guy goes "we were going to throw it away anyway." And she goes "I know, but you have to, put it in the system..." It was so awkward! The guy giving me the sandwich was extremely professional and kind and courteous and honestly, he was exhibiting great customer service skills. The woman who interjected treated him like he was an idiot, made me feel completely alienated and left a really bad taste in my mouth. I definitely got the vibe from her like I was just a DoorDash runner, not a customer and why is he being so nice to me... of course she doesn't realize I live 10 minutes from this sandwich shop and had every intention of coming back and patronizing the establishment myself.
The sandwich was amazing! I actually ate it in the car on my way to drop off the order I had just picked up. I'm totally bummed out by that crappy interaction with the woman behind the counter, but I really hope that the sweet young man who originally offered me the sandwich sees this. You did absolutely nothing wrong and she was awful. I worked in food service for many years and I would have never treated an employee or a customer the way she did.
