"Capriotti’s, the decades-old sandwich chain that had friends in high places during the previous administration, closed its flagship D.C. location on December 29. A spokeswoman for the now-nationwide company tells Eater the four-year-old Dupont Circle outpost was let go due to real estate issues." - Warren Rojas

One of my roommate's is from Delaware and was super excited that this Delaware based sandwich shop was coming to DC. I added it to my restaurant list and finally walked by it on a Friday around lunch time so I had to go in. Not knowing anything about it, I was a little surprised. The inside looked like a fast food shop like Subway. I ordered their famous Bobby (turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, etc) and glad I did NOT order a large. I ordered a medium and it is seriously HUGE. I thought they accidentally gave me a large, but nope, the medium is giant. I ate the entire sandwich myself and was underwhelmed. It was unique but not the amazing sandwich I was promised.

This place is so good!! They claim to have the best sandwich in america and they aren't lying. The service was very good as well. The server helped me make my decision on what to get since I had never been here before, and she chose well. She picked the cheese steak and it's easily the best sandwich I've ever had. She also refilled the soda fountain within a minute of me telling her that it was out. The only downside is the price. It was $11 for a 12" sub which is a little more than I want to spend except on special occasions.

Great sandwich shop! The staff are usually very friendly, sandwiches are all made to order and well done, facilities are clean and it's a great value. Sandwiches are moderately priced and huge - definitely a great bang for your buck. Recommendations: the Grilled Italian, the Cole Turkey or the Capastrami.

I have only gotten the Cheese Steak and the Chicken Cheese Steak. Both are very good and cooked to order. They are loaded with meat and cheese. For the price they are worth it. The 12 inch could be split between two people easily. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They try to upsell cookies which are to die for. Definitely worth visiting while in the area.

Being from Delaware (where Capriotti's originated), I was so excited when they opened up a location in DC. I work in Foggy Bottom and convinced my co-workers to walk the 15 minutes to 18th and M for a delicious lunch. Capriotti's (of course) did not disappoint. The Bobby (Thanksgiving in a sandwich) and the classic turkey are my favorites. The ingredients are so fresh and the portions are very generous. The smallest size is enough for me to have half for lunch and save half for later!

Veggie 'chick' sub: ordered online, non busy time. (Picked up, the place was empty, the 1 emp working was sweeping) Place appears clean and organized, typical sub shop style. Order was a bit well, wrong. Sauce supposed to be on the side, was on the sub. No chips, actually they didn't realize I had ordered any. I had to show them the recipt, possibly due to the language barrier. Aside from the sauce that I was going to try and then didn't like, it was a pretty good sandwich. No scrimping on the fill, bread was fresh, not too thick or soggy/dripping/greasy. My expectation, the 'chicken' was the "beyond meat" brand. Def a bit pricey but vegan meat in the district what can you expect? Online ordering from cell was easy and seamless.

Any time of year, you can go to Capriotti's and order a sandwich that feels like Thanksgiving. The Bobbie, with the pulled turkey, cranberry sauce, and stuffing is wonderful. The only two things that would make this sandwich better is hot turkey and stuffing, and being able to order a side of gravy. Dipping this sandwich ala French Dip style into a steaming bowl of turkey gravy would make this experience a 10.
