Our party arrived here on a Monday evening with reservations. We probably didn't need one as the place was not very busy. It is located off of Portreo Ave near SF General Hospital, The surrounding area is "sketchy" with people on the sidewalk hidden in the shadows. Parking is not that easy so you have to park relatively far away.
The service here is excellent and the waiter was very attentive. The seats were not comfortable, but luckily we brought seat cushions. We started off with an appetizer of Frittura Mistai ($19) which consisted of Deep fried Calamari, Prawns, Zucchini with Marinara and Tartar Sauce. It was quite good. They also brought out some french bread with a sauce of capers which they quickly replenished when our famished group finished the first round. Three pasta dishes were ordered - linguine with fresh clams ($24), Pappardelle with Lamb Ragu, with Mushrooms and Tomato Sauce ($24), Fettuccine with Pesto Sauce, Chicken and Sun-Dried Tomatoes ($22) , cesare salad ($10), and finally a Pan-Seared Sole Dore with Spinach, Mashed Potato and Lemon, Butter, Capers Sauce ($25). The food was excellent.
When it was time for the bill, the waiter announced a 3% charge for using a credit card. I was very surprised as it was not noted on the menu, plus how many people bring $200 cash when dining out especially in that area of town. Even though our experience was good, there are some downsides as noted above. We may come again probably during daylight hours as the neighborhood is a little scary. I gave them a 4+ rating as I never give 5 ratings on restaurants that have hidden charges.
