Capronis Restaurant & Bar

I used Open Table to make a reservation as it can be hard very busy here at night. I started with an order of the fried Calamari and a glass of their house Moscato wine. After much consideration I went with the Eggplant a la Penne. My reasoning was the eggplant and artichoke combo. The meal came with the Marysvillian salad and rolls. While you dine you may see a train or a barge on the river. Capronis is a town celebrity in its own right so be sure to visit if you are in town. Several famous guests have signed plates on their visits. Great food, charm and history keeps me coming back. Please note they are open for dinner service only and closed on Sundays.

Great view on the water. Train tracks run right in front of the restaurant, which if you’re lucky, you may just catch a train running by. Food was delicious, had the Oysters on the half shell, Blue crab dip and the Lasagna. Also had live music which added to the ambiance. Love live music!🤩Would visit again to try something else

The Inn Keeper from Lee's House Inn (Anne) set us up reservations at check in and we are so happy she did. The waiter was amazing and top notch and definitely on top of taking care of our needs. The Fried Green Tomatoes were amazing and different, a must try. The salad, fresh bread and my Spaghetti and Meatballs will have me talking for years. 100% will want to come back here! We were way too full for dessert but I'm sure it would of been great too!.

I had catfish I personally didn't like it. Was not cooked on the inside but the batter was overcooked. Others had steak very well cooked and tender.

We took our parents for their birthday, first time customers and it did not disappoint 👏 We had the prime burger, salmon, porkchop, catfish and shrimp pasta. Every dish was delicious, our waiter was so nice and attentive, the ambiance was amazing and we got to see a train go by!!! Absolutely amazing, this may be our new special place.

First time going. Had a reservation but opted to sit at the bar. Atmosphere was great snd live music was a nice surprise. Pork chop was tender and juicy. Lasagna was full of cheese and good. Unfortunately, the service was poor. They had an outstanding amount of bourbon but NO bourbon list! Improve service and get a list with pricing for pours!

Great local restaurant. Food was amazing, service was great and the drinks were strong and well prepared. Definitely one of the high points of any visit to Maysville.

In town for a short visit and reviews were good. Got the Veal Osso Bucco. Very tender and good flavor. Would recommend.

First time at Caproni's -Nov '24 Service was great. Food was great. I had the pork chop and my dad had the grilled salmon. I'd definitely go back whenever I'm in the Maysville area.

Service is always superb as well as the scenery, love looking at the river and across at Ohio. Great vibes and food is always fantastic as well highly recommend you give it a shot you will not regret it.

I had a very nice experience at this restaurant one Thursday evening in Maysville. I arrived a few minutes late, but my group was already seated at their table since we had a reservation. They had drinks when I arrived, and mine was brought out promptly after ordering. To start, we had the calamari and the spinach and artichoke dip as appetizers. This was followed by their signature salads and a bread basket, and then our entrees. I got the salmon with their brussels sprouts with bacon. The food was good, but nothing made me go "wow." The calamari had a nice crunch, and the dip was very cheesy. The bread was just okay, but their homemade cinnamon butter made it better. My salmon was very good; it was well seasoned and flaked beautifully. The brussels sprouts on the other hand were just fine, but I definitely would not order them again. Overall, it was a nice meal and everyone went home full. I would come back again to try something new, as the service was great and the atmosphere was lovely. Definitely try the cinnamon butter, but skip the brussels sprouts.

We had been driving all night from St. Louis picked up our friend in West Union, OH, and he tells us that he made reservations about 20 minutes away in KY. What? We just drove 6 hours to see you. Isn't there a place closer? He assured us that we wouldn't be disappointed. So we say our hellos and pile back into the car... all 5 of us... to trek on icy unfamiliar roads in the dark to a restaurant that BETTER live up to the hype. The location is beautiful at night (I'm sure it's lovely in the daylight too). In the foyer, we were greeted by a painting or photo of Rosemary Clooney and a beautiful light. Our waitress was sweet, and she told us the special and went on her way. I saw that calamari was on the menu, and it's a given that I'm gonna order that when I'm out. We also ordered potato skins. They looked amazing. I didn't try them, and in looking at the menu, I didn't see them listed, but everyone said they were really good. The salad and rolls came out. The rolls were warm... nice touch. The salad is brought out in one big bowl. I get it... it saves lettuce because some people just pick at their salad, but I was first to get some out of the bowl and didn't want to be selfish, so I didn't get enough. That's really the only con. My main entree was shrimp and grits. It was very good but like a lot of places they keep the tails on. I just don't get that. It gets super messy. One of my friends got a Hotbrown sandwich. Another got the catfish. We really liked that they had Kentucky Classics on the menu. It made our choices easier. Between the wine and drive, we were all really tired, but we still had dessert. We shared cheesecake and transparent pie. We call it sugar pie. As someone who doesn't like pie at all, I was pleasantly surprised. We were talking to the table next to us... they were celebrating a birthday, so we sang with them, wished them many more, and then a southern gentleman gave us his dessert. It was good. I believe it was tirimasu in a mug. Oh, and the whipped cream on the desserts was great!! The service was good. We even asked to hear back from one of the waitresses... Tonia... and she did NOT disappoint. Got her letter this week. Thanks!!! Was it worth the hype and the drive? Yes, ma'am!

Great date night meal, great service, and a great view! You can't go wrong at Capronis!

This place was too fun and too tasty not to give it a four-star review. However, our waiter, "Jeff," was a real downer. But back to the food.. the calamari was done perfectly and we shared the Tuscan bean soup, which was as good as what we enjoyed in Tuscany! We also enjoyed the large salad. Husband had the chicken piccata and I had the Penne Lea - both were very satisfying. We also definitely enjoyed the Bulleit Manhattan!!!

My husband and I came on our anniversary and it's the perfect spot for an intimate dinner for two! The view was great and service was fantastic as well! The pasta dish I got was really yummy & the salmon was cooked perfectly! The catfish platter was a bit heavy, but still good.

Wow what a hidden Gem! Capronis nestled in Maysville Kentucky just outside the floodwall next to the Ohio River and train station. The atmosphere is kinda old world Italian but yet somewhat modern. Very well decorated. Denise James was our host. She not only took care of us but gave us a little history of the restaurant, that has been there for more that 100 years. Their entrees include a local salad, which was refreshing and not overly drowned in dressing. Capronis have a very extensive wine selection and not just Italian fare to choose for dinner. I chose the old pogue glazed pork chop and the succotash and stewed tomatoes. My lovely wife chose the chicken piccata pasta. The pork chop with a bone in was absolutely amazing and the bourbon glaze that I had on the side was so flavorful I had to use it all up. It needs to be bottled. The succotash with corn and Lima beans was not overcooked but perfect. My favorite was the Italian stewed tomatoes. Reminded me of my childhood when my mother made them. My wife gave the chicken piccata pasta a A++. We finished our evening with a fantastic cup of coffee and a homemade turtle cheesecake. This will be a definite return destination! If you're close to Maysville Kentucky it is a must!

Caproni's has always been a favorite hidden gem that my husband and I and colleagues and I visit anytime we are in the area. The food has always been spectacular and the service good. This last time we were there the food was very disappointing, our waiter was hustling to serve all the tables, four busboys were standing around doing nothing. I think one of the challenges is the large parties that are hosted in the back room take away from the diners in the main dining area. if possible, it would be good to have one cooking line just for the banquets and another for the diners in the main dining room. The entryway had been remodeled, and I asked the receptionist what had changed, and her attitude was the heck of I know. that's at the stage for the night. We were totally disappointing after so many fabulous meals at Caproni's.

Service was absolutely top notch (Jeff) and meal was delicious. Lasagna with meat sauce was prepared perfectly and a very generous portion served with the in house Maysville Salad. Chicken marsala with tiny mushroom pieces and a side of creamy spinach mixed in with long sweet strands of cooked onions and the fried apples were not over sweet and a heavy flavor of cinnamon with chewy skins, personally I love the apple skins. Service was so good and we enjoyed a wonderful view of the river. No train passed this visit. This is a long time dining establishment in the quaint town of Maysville tucked behind the flood wall. Love supporting local places and they have a great bourbon selection!!

Awesome service and food! Everything was very fresh and clean. The view of the river is gorgeous.

We were passing through and decided to stay in Maysville- our host at our Inn recommended Capronis and we had a nice walk to the restaurant. The vibe and interior of this almost 100 year old establishment were spot on. Very cool ambiance and we sat at a large table overlooking the Ohio river. We both had pasta dishes (Alfredo & scallopini picata) both meals were terrific as well as the wine. Super happy with our dinner and experience here. Watching the river and trains were a nice mix up in our routine as well. recommended evening.

I can't say enough great things about this restaurant. It's my favorite restaurant in Kentucky. The food is always spectacular and the views are amazing. The service is always spectacular, and U honestly feel like I'm not even in Kentucky when I'm here... it feels BIGGER if that makes sense. The river views are to die for... but wait until that train comes! It's so neat. Highly recommend Caproni's to anyone.

This restaurant has a quaint location on the Ohio River. The Christmas decorations are so beautiful. The atmosphere is absolutely delightful. Tonight Timmy S. was our server and a mighty fine job he did for us. My husband had the grouper stuffed with crab, baked potato and green beans. I ate his Maysville house salad. The house made salad dressing is the best. I wish it was bottled and sold. We had the calamari for our appetizer. The presentation was perfect. It is served with marinara sauce, cocktail sauce and delicious house made tartar sauce. I ordered fried oysters for my meal. They are breaded to order and fried to perfection. I am from Florida and the oysters are right there with the best. The sweet tea is brewed and not out of a soda machine. It was sweetened just right. On my way out I purchased a baseball hat. There is a nice selection of souvenirs. I also bought a cd. Appalachia Christmas music...$10. The view of the river is wonderful. The ladies restroom was clean and stocked. We had a early dinner arriving around 4pm. They do take reservations. We were a walk-in. Many celebrities have frequented this landmark. They have a nice selection of beer, wine and a full bar. If you are in Maysville do stop for a meal. It will not disappoint.

This is an upscale place for Maysville, so this review is keeping that in mind. Crabcake and fried tomatoes came with the same sauce. Sweet and sour. Not a good combo. The tomatoes were good by themselves. Crabcake was decent. I had the delmonico ribeye. Great steak. The asparagus should not be considered a side dish though. They were wrapped fashionably in bacon, but it was a tiny portion. The garlic mashed were a lil thick but tasted good. She had the special Cajun steak pasta. It looked good and she liked it. Great view of the river and white table cloth (not applied correctly but effort deserves kudos). The staff looked sharply dressed. The place was very clean. I didn't make it to the bathroom to check cleanliness. That's my barometer to how clean the kitchen might be. Overall good. Especially for Maysville.

Awesome service and great setup. Very much worth the visit . Food was great and the Bourbon selection was outstanding .

Our first time at Capronis. The location and restaurant itself are both so cute. We wanted to love everything about Capronis but we both thought the food was marginal at best. Prices weren't bad and maybe we'll give them another chance but had higher expectations from Capronis.

Absolutely fantastic meal!!! Our waitress Denise J. was so attentive and pleasant to talk to. We live over an hour away and this is definitely a destination we will come back to.

I called to made reservations to celebrate the evening of our Anniversary but there was no one there to take my reservations with so I left a message and they returned my request and gave me what I was asking for. The food was great The servicer was top notch (Denise) Thanks!

High end eatery along the river in Historic Maysville, Ky. Not quite white linen, but certainly has the most incredible views of the Ohio, river and the train that runs along. The service was attentive and friendly. Our app of calamari was tender and crisp, not at all over done. My husbeast ordered the cajun alfredo, my father in law ordered the regular alfredo and I ordered the delmonico, medium. The steak came with a salad, and bread service. According to the husbeast the pasta was Ok. It was a bit on the bland side for cajun, but the sausage was plentiful and the portion size was generous. The father in law thought the alfredo was good, if a bit thick. For me, the steak was cooked to perfection, lager than the size they advertised and the veg served with - broccoli - was perfect. The only disappointment was that the house special dessert, I cant think of the name but I think its a clear cake of sorts, was out of availabilty. I would come back. I wanted to spend more time looking over the Clooney Family memoribilia.

Catfish was muddy tasting according to my husband. I had the salmon and it was delicious. Not enough asparagus served with fish for your high prices.

The best prime rib I have had, which includes top steakhouses in Chicago, New York, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. Great cut of meat, perfectly cooked and so nicely seasoned that I used none of the horseradish or other sauce (so can't comment on that). Salad was nothing special, but creamed spinach fine. Overall seating was chaotic (we did not have reservations), but waitress was attentive but not invasive. View pleasant, and unique glass etching of it worth admiring.. Worse part is drive through town to get there: windy and steep, with one ways confusing when leaving. Do not attempt this if pulling a trailer.

The bruschetta and artichoke dip appetizers were excellent. Spaghetti, Catfish and Penne Lea were average. The Eggplant Parmigiana was excellent. The atmosphere would have been much better if the music from the live entertainment had not been so loud. It was difficult to carry on a conversation at our table without having to shout.

Went there for my birthday and had a great meal. I was very pleased with the food, service and atmosphere. I would recommend anyone to dine there.

We were a party of 6, I had Fettuccine Al Fredo, large portion, but sadly lacking in flavor, no pepper or nutmeg, just pasta, cream and cheese. Sent back the first one, very dry, just had to look at it. Replacement plate was over sauced, which I like, however, flavorless. Too bad, I was looking for a good pasta in Maysville, I thought by trying one of the easiest dishes to make, they couldn't screw it up. I was wrong. On the bright side, service was timely and professional.

They tried to kill me! I have eaten at this restaurant several times a year, for many years. Had no issues. Last night, I ordered a steak with a baked potato, with butter and sour cream. As I am eating the potato there was something hard in it. I pulled it out and it was a piece of plastic! I'm thinking it was a piece of bag the sour cream came in. Told the waitress. She said "Oh my. I'll tell the kitchen." She came back with no offer to comp the meal or anything like that. What if I had swallowed it? I think it will be a longtime, if ever, return to this restaurant.

5 years living in this town and yet this was my first visit! Tucked away on the outskirts of town by the train tracks and river. You will find people from all walks of life enjoying the great food and nice view, even the Clooney's who sat across from us. I happen to know my way around a good hot brown and this place is now #2 next to my own which is obviously #1. The tiramisu was the perfect finish to the night. We will definitely be back! On the negative side: Parking- not a lot Eating outdoors by the river- bugs Hours- closed on Sunday Price -$$. Glass of wine was on the pricier side

The food was burnt on the bottom. As was the appetizer. Drinks....yuk. The waitress was ok. The front desk hostess was snotty. Prices are too high for the preparation of it. The place was clean is about all I can say. I dont mind paying if I am treated nicely and the food is great, but there are so many places nearby that are 5 star. I'd suggest you spend your hard-earned cash elsewhere. I will never go back.

Great atmosphere, wonderful architecture, next to the river for a very scenic and pleasant view. Great food, reasonable pricing, and excellent service. Highly recommend.

Great food and beautiful place. Friendly waiter. I love Kentucky Brown and they had the best ever. Don't miss it if you are anywhere in the area.

The restaurant has a great location right on the river with great views through the large windows inside. The inside was allurung as well, with an old wine cellar or bar vibe. Make sure to make a reservation. We went on a Friday night, which was busy, and we still had a few minutes to wait, which was fine because the bar area was comfortable and inviting, and the cocktails were very good. The menu was small, but every dish was very well done. The wait staff was attentive and accommodating. The food came out quickly. And compared to similar quality food at other upscale dining establishments, everything was very reasonably priced.

Tonight 4 of us ate at Caproni's for dinner. Two of us had the same thing and it was horrible. Very disappointed. Service was great but food wasn't worth the money. Sorry

We have been to Capronis three times this year during Covid restrictions. Absolutely hands down one of the best restaurant experiences yet in the Mason county area. The view, the service and the food are spot on for the money. Wish I had pics of the food to show but we just ate! We enjoyed all of it and have a few favorites now. A couple of items in my opinion could be adjusted but that's a subjective. This is now our go to for a meal out when we are in Maysville!

I've had many meals at Caproni's (including my wedding rehearsal dinner for 20 guest) and enjoy it. I will typically order the Chicken Caproni, a seafood special, Sicilian Sirloin (medium), or Grilled Delmonico steak (medium rare). I will usually order the garlic mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts with bacon demi glacé as sides. I enjoy the Maysvillian salad that is served with most of the dinners but some find that it has too much dressing. I don't find it to be too much. I also enjoy their Fried Green Tomatoes, calamari, and Tomato Bruschetta appetizers. When I've had issues with my dinner the server has always resolved the issue to my satisfaction. I will say that the service is not always as prompt as I would like. I will not order the hot brown as I do not find it to be a good representation of what a Kentucky Hot Brown should be.

My family is from the Maysville area. My Great Grandad was the Lock Master and my granddaddy attended Maysville HS, worked at Carnation and the radio station. He often spoke of fond memories of meetings Rosemary Clooney and many golden time artist popping of the train to promote their talents. Dining at Caproni's is something I do in respect of my family that are no long here. I'm lucky that the people in Maysville work hard to persevere Maysville, Kentucky's very important history. Caprooni's food is very delicious mixed menu something for everyone. The meatballs are delicious, steaks are tender, lasagna was great. I highly recommend dining in town to support the independent restaurant owners. Their charm and home cooked food beats anything a corporate chain has to offer.

Food was meh and wayyyyyyy overpriced. Place needs a rwmodel or at least somr pain and a good cleaning. Hostess was a tad ignorant abd nit very pleasant. Much better nearby for half the cost

This is a great spot in Maysville, Ky. It is a shame they are understaffed for a weekend crowd. Come here on the weekend and chalk it up for an all evening event. I have been here 2 hours, three beers and two appetizers. Great restaurant that you need to go on a weekday. Miss the crowd, 5 stars. Hit the crowd, you'll wish you stayed home.

Caproni's is an iconic Maysville eatery right on the banks of the Ohio River. It has unbeatable views of the Simon Kenton Bridge and the rolling hills that surround this beautiful small town. Current owners, mangers, and chefs have upped the game of this Maysville mainstay with a wide variety of dinner options as well as nearly 100 bourbons from which to choose. There are also many bourbon themed dishes from appetizers to desserts. On a recent evening, the Steak Delmonico, Chicken Caproni, and Bourbon Pork Chops were all deliciously cooked and presented. The salad bowl, served family-style, is worth the trip, and the service was top-notch. If you get all this, plus a train going by to boot, it is well worth the trip to Rosemary Clooney Street to discover - or rediscover - this local jewel.

I've been coming here for many years, I actually make the hour and a half drive just for Cap's. Donna, the waitress, who I always request prior to my visit, is the absolute best! Normally, I would give them 5 stars, everything is beyond perfect...but tonight we had an issue. The manager, very much ruined our evening! She was running around yelling and talking down to the staff the entire time we were there. Everyone was working very hard, and we were very impressed, until she started...and literally never stopped! She made herself look bad, and caused chaos throughout the staff. And let's be honest, no one wants to come to a dinner and pay this kind of money to listen to a manger rant through their entire meal, completely ruined our night out! The food was amazing, as always, the rest of the staff did very extremely well also.

This place could be great if the food and service were good. The building and the view of the river is great. The food and service not so much. I ordered the Catfish dinner. The catfish seemed like they were pre-battered out of a box and the hush puppies has so much gluten from whipping the flour in the batter that they were inedible. My wife ordered the Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo and the Alfredo sauce was runny and seemed to be nothing more than heavy cream, no Parmesan, no garlic at all in the sauce. This is supposed to be an Italian restaurant. We've only been once but I don't think we'll go back.

We had a wonderful evening at Capronis celebrating my husband's birthday! Our server took great care of us from drinks all the way to dessert! The lamb was cooked very well and my lasagna was made even better by the chef adding sautéed mushrooms! Thank you to both our server and the manager for a fun evening out!
