"A trip to Myrtle Beach without taking a trip to the Calabash buffet is like a trip to Las Vegas and avoiding the slot machines and roulette tables at the casino. The inevitability of standing in line for hush puppies, clam strips, stuffed flounder, shrimp alfredo, and clusters of crab legs is almost a cultural certainty." - Andre James

We came because of the good reviews and location to our condo and we were not disappointed! The crab legs were hot and fresh and had great flavor. The variety of food was amazing, our group of 4 who all like very different things were all very satisfied! We will be back on our next visit to myrtle beach! Service was fantastic as well, and the dessert selection was so fun. The manager was walking around checking on tables to make sure everyone was enjoying their visit. We came in shortly after 2pm when they opened and definitely recommend doing that as it got pretty busy around 3!

CAPTAIN BENJAMIN'S CALABASH SEAFOOD BUFFET ~ My family really enjoyed this buffet. This is the CLEANEST buffet we've ever been to. The staff kept all of the selections full, and our server kept our drinks full. The atmosphere is nice, clean, and colorful. The food is very good. My favorites were the clam chowder, mussels, ribs, olive medley, and chicken tenders. This buffet is a bit pricey, but if you love seafood, it's worth it. I recommend this restaurant ✅️

I love this place so much! Great food and good for the prices. Also probably the cleanest buffet I have ever visited. 10/10 recommend. (They even have a chocolate waterfall!) …they did ask everyone to write a review for a discount…

Google
I recently dined at this seafood buffet restaurant and had a fantastic experience! The selection was impressive — from fresh oysters and crab legs to flavorful chicken wings and perfectly cooked vegetables, there was something for everyone. The buffet was clean and well-stocked, and the quality of the food was top-notch. The staff was friendly and attentive, quickly clearing plates and making sure we had everything we needed. Special thanks to our server, who handled our table with care and professionalism. Even after we were done eating, the area remained tidy thanks to the staff’s efficiency. The sauces, fruit options, and complimentary drinks made the meal even better. Overall, this place is a great choice for anyone craving delicious seafood and a satisfying buffet experience. Highly recommend!

Google
I must say, I was impressed. And that's a little hard for me lol. But the selection was huge! And it's hard to find good shrimp and grits (I'm not from here). They were actually very good. Which surprises me cause it's a buffet! And the crab was AWESOME! I didn't need my crab cracker. I could break them and juice comes out and my crab sliiiiiides right out without getting stuck to the shell! 😋 The server was attentive, the bathroom was clean and the restaurant itself was clean. Definitely would come often if I lived here. $49.95 plus drink for all u can eat seafood isn't bad.

Google
For an All-U-Can eat buffet the place offers the best in seafood and many other style of cuisines. The food is fresh and continuously replaced. There is a line for crab legs but they keep them piled high and hot. There are many other types of fish and shrimp dishes plus beef and pork. Lot of comfort dishes and desserts to round out the meal. They do offer alcohol as well. Expect to pay around $50 for an adult and $25 for child under 12.

Google
We had an incredible dining experience, and a big shout-out goes to our server, Luke! His customer service skills and manners were truly exceptional. He ensured we were having a great time and went above and beyond to accommodate some of our more unusual requests. The buffet spread was quite good! I was particularly fond of the stuffed crab, shrimp Alfredo, and fried catfish. The menu had a fantastic variety, and I couldn’t get enough of the lobster mac and cheese, crab cakes, and shrimp jambalaya. Honestly, all the shrimp dishes were absolutely delicious, and enjoying all-you-can-eat crabs seasoned with Old Bay was a real treat! The collard greens were full of flavor too, standing out compared to other buffets I’ve been to. Tim, presumably the owner or manager, made it a point to check in with guests multiple times, ensuring everyone was enjoying their meal. I truly believe Luke deserves a bonus for the outstanding service he provided tonight. The establishment itself was impressively clean, and the busboys and cleaning staff did a fantastic job. It’s also beautifully decorated, creating a lovely atmosphere. If I had one suggestion, it would be to play some light music in the background to fill any quiet moments. Overall, an enjoyable experience!

Yelp
Excellent food Excellent servers Will alway stop in when I am in Myrtle Beach A variety of food and desserts

Yelp
It was the original Benjamin's my friend was telling me about. I think the original should be made more accessible on a navigation device. The food was good and selection was great. I enjoyed the crab legs but more so the company that attended with me. These friends made the trip worth while. I feel the environment should be updated so that you feel more comfortable spending your money. Now I'm not downing it at all just making some suggestions. I am not a big crab eater but every once in a while I will indulge, and Benjamin's had an endless supply of snow crab legs. (Side note) the baskets they give the customers are for putting the discarded shells into, it's not used to gather all the crablegs from the buffet!!

Nathan W.

Yelp
Best food I have had the crab legs were awesome and it's real sea food! The service is good they come around every few minutes.

Matthew H.

Yelp
The food here was good. All the staff didn't speak much English. The pricing is unclear and we we hit with a large bill and even after it was corrected ( they added an extra person). I would pass on it next time

Marina L.

Yelp
Clean, nice and a huge selection!! It's $55 after tax unless you have a coupon which most of the booklets have. I even had a cute Ukranian waiter lol. Deff ate $50 worth of seafood! Plus there is put put across the street and the ferris wheel behind it, so good location!

Nancy K.

Yelp
The variety was great for the price point. There was an abundance of crab legs available. The wait staff was super friendly.

Karley B.

Yelp
My 11-year-old nephew taught me how to pick snow crab legs! That alone was worth the price, in my opinion. Lucky for me, his Pop Pop paid the bill - double score! I also figured out how to pick crawfish. Once I learned these skills, I could have sat there for much longer, but all the experts were ready to go, so we went. I'm just going to have to find a local Baltimore buffet to hone my skills. Looking forward to that. We were a party of at least 10, so there was a bit of a wait, but that gave us time to catch up with some friends we hadn't seen since September, and to goof around with friends who came down to MB just for the day. Our waitress was competent. This was my first time at a Calabash, so I wasn't sure what to expect and still don't know if I should have expected better. The place was packed and our waitress didn't seem flustered or put out, so it seems to me that she's used to this kind of crush of people. And after seeing what was available on the buffet, I can understand why it would be packed every day. I didn't even see all the buffet tables. Once I got my snowcrab and a couple other items, I didn't see the point in trying the ribs (my father-in-law said that he cooks better), chicken (looked like something my grandmother used to make - simmering chicken legs in sauce for an hour), veg, fruit, pasta, and pretty much anything else you can think of. I love that there are trash/shell bowls on the table, so you don't have to pile them endlessly on the table. There's butter dipping sauce, and cocktail sauce for shrimp (I had quite a bit of shrimp), and Lord only knows what else available. Several people in our party had salads, though I don't know why. My boyfriend had the steak and he exclaimed that it was "Stupid good" - a couple days later he had a steak at California Dreaming that was horribly overcooked. So get the buffet steak. It's delicious! He also says that the stuffed flounder was a wash. The fish was good but the stuffing was not. The dessert selection is no joke. I had some amazing butter pecan ice cream, but a couple people had soft serve. There was also berry cheesecake bites, cookies, cannoli, an assortment of pies... The strawberry daiquiri was incredible. Gotta love a buffet where you can get a quality cocktail. Yes it's expensive, but you're on vacation, right? You wanna have a once-in-a-lifetime experience? Captain Benjamin has got you covered. Give him a chance. Would recommend.

Yelp
Took my Mom on a date. While we both don't eat a ton this is a favorite spot of our in Myrtle Beach. The staff were great. Really friendly, helpful, and attentive. The establishment was clean and they stayed on top of replenishing all the foods. The food was delicious as expected. Can't wait to get back to some great sweet tea and crab legs. I'm not going to lie, the mash potatoes really had me hooked. Super creamy! I hadn't had a hush puppy in a long time and they did not disappoint. So May varieties of food for every consumer and they kept the food areas clean and without cross contamination of the different foods.

Patricia M.

Yelp
My husband and I went to this place for dinner on Friday, and the food was horrible. It was a slaughter house. The food was over cooked , and had a strange taste. I couldn't believe that people were actually eating it. It is a buffet of garbage. They charged $49.99. What a rip-off . We expected at least a decent meal. The only thing good about the place were the waiters and the setup was great (ambiance). The food should be decent. There is nothing else to add. We will not be going back. One disappointment is enough.

Autumn B.

Yelp
Service was incredible, best buffet in Myrtle beach! Tons of space, very friendly staff. Great place to take the family!

Shane J.

Yelp
Food was good service was good and place was very clean and a lot of food options were available I would recommend big party's and groups events had a lot of different kinds of dishes at Captain Benjamin's

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Great set up huge selection AMAZING chocolate fountain that tastes so smooth. It doesn't overpower the flavor of the items you run under it. Kind people and attentive staff

Jerry R.

Yelp
The atmosphere is good and the selection is abundant. I will definitely return here. I enjoyed our mini vacation.

S Denice B.

Yelp
Amazing..I love this place and every time we come to the beach it's always on our list of MUST things to do..

Kena V.

Yelp
Well if buffets are your jam, this place isn't a bad stop. They have pretty much everything you could want as most buffets do (2 dessert bars, array of seafood, icee cream bar). The $49.95 (PLUS drink, tax, and gratuity)was a bit steep considering the quality of the food BUT the place was clean, service was great and fresh hot food was always in rotation. Two rounds of crab legs and you would certainly have gotten your moneys worth. If I'm town, I'd stop back thru.

Mark L.

Yelp
The number of food items was adequate, the crab legs being the best item. However, for the price per person, excluding drinks, was way too exorbitant. Not at all worth the cost. The service was nice, but that didn't make up for the lackluster food or the ridiculous price.

Anthony D.

Yelp
Food, service and ambiance were good. On the boardwalk eating with a good variety of food. Prices are higher but seemed consistent with most places on the boardwalk.

Sam T.

Yelp
Our group of 4 paid over $250 for food and drinks. The buffet is $50 per person alone. Some of the seafood was just not good tasting. The scallops I had were horrible, tasted extremely heavy on salt and had an extreme funky fish flavor. All 4 of us had bad tasting seafood. And I had tummy issues, if you know what I mean, for the next 3 days. The only really good part was the deserts. We noted that the seafood from the buffet was not really hot and perhaps not food safe. I suggest that you stay away from this place. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area.

Amy W.

Yelp
We were EXTREMELY hesitant to try this place. During our week stay we went to the Original Benjamin's twice, Crappy Mikes once and Capt Georges once. Crab legs are the highlight to my MB summer vacay. I must say that despite my judgements I loved this place. I only eat crab legs. My husband doesn't eat seafood and he is never impressed with the buffets I drag him to. This one he enjoyed. It's the same price as the higher rated buffets so this isn't the cheaper option. It's conveniently located. It doesn't have as many item choices but people including us enjoyed it. If you want good, NOT SALTY, not watery crab legs then this is a great option. Our server was also amazing. I'm so happy we were too lazy to drive to surf side our last night or battle the more "famous" buffets. Pics DO NOT do the crab legs justice. Also note- you serve yourself crab legs. No 2 cluster minimum and it kept flowing. No one was ridiculously over piling their plates in the 2 hours we were there. Enjoy! I hope If you try them based on my review, it is as surprisingly pleasing as it was for us! My new fav buffet here in MB. So happy I didn't rely solely on past reviews.

Lenard C.

Yelp
First off, the place is excellent when it comes to service and food. But the advertisement online was all the way off. My family and I wanted Seafood and this was close to our hotel. We looked it up online and noticed we could do takeout. First they would not answer the phone so we walked over to the place to put an order in, we were told we only do dine in. Thats takes away one star. So we get a table and sit down. We wanted items that were on the online menu, waitress said "its only buffet". That takes away the second star. We were forced into the buffet, which I said earlier turned out to be excellent. All and all, i do recommend the spot, food was great, service was great and it was a great atmosphere. Online information needs to be changed.

Ava M.

Yelp
worse food ever, best thing on menu was Corona Beer and crab legs, seasoned good. I knew when i walked in the door, aside from dessert, i was not going to be happy. The food didn't even look pleasing, tasty. I believe this place is getting by on its name, or perhaps because end of summer all good cooks went back to school. Nasty tasting food, if it had taste at all. Too much money to pay for that BS! soggy fried okra, everything tasted was displeasing, except for salad but so disappointed in food couldn't even eat that! Do your research, do not go on past history or some of these review!

Craig S.

Yelp
60.00 plus tip. I was Not impressed. The quality was Not good. Crab legs tasted old, dry and did not come out of the shell easily. Service was ok.

Holly P.

Yelp
Plenty of crablegs and choices but the food wasn't the best. If anybody in your group doesn't like seafood there were options but still not great flavor. The sweet tea and ranch dressing were top notch though.

Nicole C.

Yelp
There were several options of food on the buffet. They kept fresh crab legs coming throughout our visit. There were a lot of fried options which we enjoy. Salad selection was great. And there were many dessert options as well. Our waitress was very nice and efficient with providing extra napkins, a fresh crab bowl fir our shells. And refills on drinks. The price seemed high until we looked at other restuarants' for seafood meals.

Joe D.

Yelp
Overall disappointed. All the seafood buffets in the area are 49.99 per person, so you have other options. Fried foods were, overall, bland. Shrimp scampi just fell apart in your mouth. It reminded me of the shrimp they sell for fish bait. Desserts (cheese cake and key lime pie) were room temp. It just seemed like everything was straight out of a box. Tea was 3.50. Hostess was blunt at best. Waitress was kind and did her job well. The building was clean, inside and out. This is NOT a good seafood buffet. There's another buffet with Benjamin in the name. Don't mistake this place for the other.

Kade O.

Yelp
When I went here to eat the manager, a sleazy man named Tim, tried to scam me and my beautiful wife For my 3 and a half year aniversey with my wife Margret we decided to go here because a friend said in the past it was good. When we arrived at the place me and my wife were told it would be 46$, we confirmed this many times with many different servers yet when our bill arrived it was 96! I could not believe it I was very upset and my wife was sad and as you all know, happy wife= happy life! So if you wanna keep your wife or significant other happy stay clear of this place!

Getel C.

Yelp
Great for prices with so many to choose from their sea food options have a lot more compare to other seafood buffet around the area.

Thuy T.

Yelp
Overpriced. At $50 a person the seafood at least should be fresh, and soft drinks should be offered with it. The options were limited, and most of the seafood were fried. Not too mention the oyster had me on the toilet, talking to Jesus. Couldn't even write the review till now. The service however was great. Definitely would not recommend.

Mel S.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised. This place has really excellent food for a buffet. The outside is kinda off putting but don't be misled, it is delicious.

Tess H.

Yelp
Wasn't sure what seafood place to choose as there are many in Myrtle Beach but glad we picked this place. We got seated basically right away, staff were nice and there were full buffet. No lines at any time and staff were regularly cleaning buffet and dining areas. Crab legs were always available (highly recommend the garlic butter to dip on). So many good hot seafood options as well as cold seafood. Yummy yummy yummy! So worth it if you like seafood. If you don't like seafood, might be hard to get your money worth. But there are TONS of non seafood options - from pizza that looked super yummy to macaroni that was tasty! Food that will please any picky person as well as satisfy a seafood fan. They do have a great dessert bar as well. So good - will be craving for a long time! Pro tip: go HUNGRY! Would return 100%. $49.99 but get $5 coupon from coupon books and be sure to give to host BEFORE sitting as it won't count otherwise. Yummy!

Dee M.

Yelp
Well visit in Myrtle Beach we were really looking for some good drinks and crab legs. I'm usually not a fan of buffets, but there are like 100 in Myrtle Beach and I have not tried captain Benjamin's. We are very happy with our experience. We gave it a try, it was extremely clean for it to be so busy. We also got to enjoy our body weight in crab legs, as well as some other delicious items. Another favorite of mine was the mashed potatoes and calamari. They also had a wonderful dessert Buffet, and it did not disappoint. The service we received from the bartender, while we waited for a table was wonderful, we enjoyed good conversation. We also had a wonderful server as well and she was was on top of all her tables and drink refills as well as grabbing dishes off the table. We chose to get drinks that were on special and we tried the white tea and it was delish, we had to go back for more. This is one that I will continue to visit when I take a trip to Myrtle Beach.

Jasmine W.

Yelp
the food was great and amazing service keep up the good work team ! Our waitress Saida she was amazing can't wait to come back and get that amazing service again!

Abby W.

Yelp
Loved my waitress. Someone in my party cut their pants from a nail sticking out from the chair. Our waitress brought the manager and we weren't charged for one of our meals. There is a lot of food: fried, barbecue, carved meats, salad, soup, desserts (soft serve ice cream, cakes, pudding, cookies), and more that I'm forgetting. Everyone was going after the snow crab legs, which tasted very good. They were cold and it was hard for us to get a lot of meat out because it was sticking to the shell. Sadly the majority of the other food (even the sweets) wasn't too extraordinary.

Keela D.

Yelp
The food was awesome and way better than Captain George's. There were so many versions of shrimp to try and had a wide variety of food. The crab legs were cook to perfection. Can't wait to go back. I didn't try that much because alcohol was my appetizers and I was stuffed.

Jason T.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! Absolutely love the food and they have a great selection. Everything tastes fresh and hot. They have food for everyone. They have the seafood and then they also have "normal" food like pizza and chicken wings etc. Free refills on drinks. The service is amazing and the restaurant is clean! If you're in the area make sure you stop here and don't forget to grab a monster book coupon book for a coupon for this place. The bathrooms (men) are a bit small but clean.

Donald L.

Yelp
It's not bad. The crab legs is what you are paying for, and believe it or not the most slept on item on the lineup is actually the fried chicken!!!! This is a buffet, go in with buffet standards, and be surprised. Definitely would go back.

Peter L.

Yelp
40 bucks, all you can eat? We ate there like we were going to the electric chair. Not exactly sure what Calabash means, but who cares , the food was good! So this is an update. Not every all you can eat is the same. We were in MB for a week and tried a different big crab place, well it didn't compare to this place. We were sorry we didn't go back here.....

Lawrence R.

Yelp
Never been - wouldn't go - these places are overpriced with no atmosphere - industrialized dining

Danielle Z.

Yelp
Everything was awesome. Best crab legs for the price. Would definitely go back next visit to Myrtle beach

Robert M.

Yelp
Lots of food! You have fresh crab, meats, veggies, soups, fruits, sweets, it's all good! We have always been faithful to this buffet in the past years and it is always a really good place. Servers are on top all the time and make sure you're good! I love it!

Stacey R.

Yelp
Best seafood buffet at the beach. Huge variety. What brings me back I have seen employee checking the temps of the food on the buffet that means alot to me.

Randi S.

Yelp
I recently tried the seafood buffet in Myrtle Beach and it was amazing! They had a wide variety of fresh seafood options and everything was delicious. The crab legs were especially tasty! Everything was keep up with and the service was amazing for a buffet! 10/10! Also a very friendly atmosphere very up beat.

Noora M.

Yelp
ate 10 clusters of crab here...incredible those hush puppy things they bring out first oooooooo u gotta get u sum best damn cookies i've ever had. drop the recipe for the ranger cookies.. i walked out with 2 more in my hand

Patrick C.

Yelp
It had been 12 yrs between visits but it didn't disappoint. The servers were excellent and the food was great.

Cynthia C.

Yelp
Waitress was great. So expensive for fried fish. Tourist trap. So many better seafood restaurants.

jim g.

Yelp
The food was great... Service was good... It's a Buffet style with excellent seafood, but many other choices. Plan on spending about 50 bucks per person and bring your appetite.

Adeed M.

Yelp
It is too pricey and the food has no taste. I made mistake not looking at yelp rating before I start sitting and eating. The waitress was very good. I liked her service, but the food was bad.

Kendall L.

Yelp
I ate here with one other person for dinner. - There wasn't a wait. - It's $47 per person and drinks are $3.50 each. We weren't told that until we were seated and served drinks. Why can't the hostess tell you that when you walk in? - The items on the buffet are hit or miss. My mashed potatoes, hush puppies, lemon meringue pie and crab legs were excellent. The steamed shrimp, calamari and steak were overcooked and tough. Honestly, if we had been told the price at the door we would have left. There's a calabash buffet near by that offers similar options (including crab legs) for $33 a person, and the quality offered at Captain Benjamin's wasn't worth the extra cost.

Christopher M.

Yelp
Misleading, low quality, and the "manager", Tim, needs to be replaced. Beware that this restaurant is $46 per person and not worth it in the slightest. In Las Vegas a buffet like this would be $14.99 a person. Extremely overpriced. We were told it was $46 for my wife and I TOTAL. I verified this with the hostesses at the front, as well as our waitress prior to eating. Then after the meal, we got a check for $98! We reluctantly paid (which we shouldn't have), and then called to politely speak with the manager about the situation. -TIM-, the "manager", answered our phone call and while I tried to patiently explain to him what had happened... ...HE LAUGHED AT US! He told us that we must have misunderstood and that this issue has never happened before (lol sure). The employees told us it was "$46 for 2 people" verbatim and I double checked with them and our waitress and they told us $46 total very clearly. The food was subpar at best, but $98 + tip is farrrrrr from worth it. Go literally anywhere else. I rarely leave this negative of a review, and would have not done so if the price was what we were told. But that and TIM THE "MANAGER" LAUGHING at us really upset us on our 12 year anniversary which is also my wife's birthday. 0 stars, would not recommend.

Kyla W.

Yelp
Surprisingly a pretty good meal! We hadn't been having very much luck finding good food in Myrtle, but this buffet is about $50 for adults, $10 for kids during the week and they had a wide variety of food. There was everything from salmon to salads, all you can eat crab legs and seafood. All very fresh, surprisingly all very hot, and the service was great! They quickly took our dirty plates, and provided gloves for the spoons at the bar. I haven't done a Buffet in a while, but this was definitely a good choice! Will definitely be back!!
