Captain Jack Amsterdam - Rijksmuseum

We had such a great time on this tour. Teun was knowledgeable, easy-going and hilarious. The snacks and drinks on the boat were perfect. We made friends with people on the boat and overall just had a very pleasant experience. Was absolutely worth the money and will come again next time I’m in the area!!

Wonderful late evening-night boat tour across the historic canals of Amsterdam. Fantastic scenery, with seasoned professionals providing city insights, security on board, and comfort for the ride. The open boat was particularly enjoyable for the views and picture opportunities it offered. Timing for me was critical, and choosing the time of the sunset to enjoy some late daylight at the beginning, and then experiencing the night coming through with the lamps going live across the canals was very memorable. All staff were very professional and dedicated. Our host in particular, Captain Peter/Pieter, was insightful, attentive, and offered dashes of charm to the passengers here and there. The ride had a good range of drinks (generic wines-beer and refreshments), and snacks (cheese, smoked dried sausage, cookies, and candy). The pickup and finish point by the Rijksmuseum was very convenient, and probably enables for a slightly longer loop across the canals than those offered by other companies. This was a little bit over 5 miles (8ish kilometers) at a relaxed pace, taking about 90 minutes. The boat was full but did not feel crowded with 24 passengers or so. Sure enough, it is a touristy thing. But a highly iconic and enjoyable experience when visiting Amsterdam.

This tour was fantastic! Tim was a great captain/host/tour guide all rolled into one. The canals were beautiful and we appreciated Tim’s knowledge on everything we saw, and his personal anecdotes he added throughout. The food and drinks were ample and very nice to have to snack on throughout the tour. Definitely a must do!

Captain Jack Canal Cruise was highly recommended by our hotel Concierge and has lots of good reviews, rewards and accolades. We were disappointed. Captain Jack asked that you email your concerns if you were not offering a 5 star review. Our written comments were answered promptly. The return email explained the boat is 100 years old, and too small for movement onboard, one loaded. The boat has no sound system. If you can’t hear the guide/boatperson, the boat has to stop, disembark, and reembark passengers based on hearing acuity. This is not a premium tour, as we thought, but one “including drinks, snacks, and a longer cruise time than most others”. Maybe the most disappointing of all was the insider knowledge we received from the guide during the tour; almost none. What we heard about the city and what we viewed was no more than you would read in a magazine article about Amsterdam. We paid US $109.53, which is considerably more than lots of other advertised offerings. We expected a little more. Finally, be sure to use the restroom, before you board.

This was one of the highlights of our stay in the beautiful city of Amsterdam. John, our guide was incredible! He is a knowledgeable historian and graciously shared so many interesting tidbits during our cruise. He was very gracious and welcoming. The boat has been refurbished to perfection! Cannot imagine experiencing any other way. Very much worth the little bit extra in cost!

Booked a canal cruise with Captain Jack based in its location right outside our hotel and it turned out to be great. Friendly informative tour guide in a clean boat with snacks and cold beer. A great couple of hours cruising the canals, learning about the city history and hilights.

JP was the best, super knowledgeable, able to answer our questions. Engaging with his teachings. It was winter so I appreciated the boat was covered, warm, and had Christmas decorations. 100% recommend this small intimate canal cruise!

By far the best part of our visit to Amsterdam! The boat was classy and well-stocked with snacks and drinks. Our captain Marco was phenomenal - told engaging stories that were informative and funny. Our family of four loved it. We will absolutely take this tour again. Whole-heartedly recommend it!!
