The Best Detroit Restaurants and Bars With Amazing Views | Eater Detroit

"This local watering hole is a transformed pole barn that is accessible via land or boat and is home to Downriver’s walleye tournament. The rolling garage doors open up to allow in a breeze from the river, and live music is frequently featured. Guests can enjoy a selection of domestic cold beers by the bucket and cocktails, along with a selection of hot dogs, smash burgers, and chicken strips. Call to place a carryout order." - Eater Staff

This place is awesome!! Great atmosphere and the food is phenomenal... all of it. Drinks are great. Staff is wonderful. Very reasonable pricing. I only wish they wouldn't have rented 3 of the transient docks this year.

Captain Jims is always a stop of ours in Gibraltar! This fun bar offers indoor and outdoor seating as well as plenty of good times! Draft beer, cocktails, wine, they have it all! You now can also order food from the restaurant across the street and bring it to Jims. We ordered the club sandwich and enjoyed it. Staff are always super friendly and let us sample the different draft beers! Our favorite spot to sit is alongside the canal

Stopped in for the first time on a Monday night for music bingo. It looks newly remodeled with a nice rustic vibe. Food was pretty good - especially the cheese bread! Parking was limited though. If they had parking in the center of the lot, they’d have a lot more spaces!

Our server Payton had the whole floor serving to himself and still found time to plug in my phone to charge 5 different times! Thanks brother!

Recently had our company lunch from here and hands down best burgers in the Gib/Rock/Btown area. Most the bars here are just ok. This one had generous sides and great sandwiches. Amber our waitress is a gem of a human being. The best in the biz!! Gibraltar should be proud to have Captain Jim’s

Yelp
We've always thought Captain Jim's had such a fun atmosphere and loved coming here for drinks. We were so excited when we stopped in this year and they're serving food! Our first time was on a Saturday for a couple drinks and appetizers. We shared the Reuben Rings and they were so great! They're a basket of onions rings with sauerkraut, corned beef, Swiss & thousand island. They were so good we ordered them again when we stopped by a couple weekends later. The jalapeño wontons were also good. They were not spicy at all and were served with sweet chili sauce. You get 5 in an order and there were 4 of us in our party. They were good but I don't think I'd get them again. All sandwiches are served with chips otherwise fries are $3 extra. Obviously I ordered the fries but that was a bit steep of an up-charge for fries that aren't homemade (in my opinion). Their Smash Burgers are great. I ordered the Irish Fisherman on brioche instead of Texas toast. It was so tasty, I'd certainly order it again. My husband had the Mean Marauder which had bacon, spicy BBQ, jalapeños & whiskey glazed onions. It was the perfect amount of spicy. I really liked it! They do charge I think $1 for ranch was also a bit steep in my opinion and I think I wish I had been told that when asking for it. Our friend ordered the Dirty Birdie and it was pretty sad. The brioche bun was great, there were two premade (purchased frozen) chicken tenders on it that barely filled the bun, barely any onions and almost no dirty sauce to speak of. She was disappointed and didn't finish it. We should've asked if the tenders were homemade or not. We were there on a Saturday and ordered a Bloody Mary and I think it was maybe $7. It came with cheese, salami, a pickle & olives. We came on Sunday for the Bloody Mary bar and it was different than expected. You build your drink from a dry erase checklist. Spicy Vodka, salami & cheese are all an up-charge. I'd definitely say the biggest disappointment is the Bloody Mary bar that isn't a bar and you'll likely pay more for one on a Sunday than on any other given day. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is clean and newly renovated. The bathrooms are in rough shape! They're sort of being remodeled, I think. One had no paper towel, the other had no soap or toilet paper, one had holes in the wall and the other was 1/2 or 3/4 remodeled. I think there are 3 or 4 restrooms so I'm only speaking for the two I used since I've been there. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area. I think I'll stick to beer, smash burgers and Reuben rings!!

Yelp
Finally tried this place and WOW it was awesome. The atmosphere is great inside and out. The menu is really simple- burgers, sandwiches and appetizers. Our waitress who was amazing recommended the jalapeno wontons . They were soooo good. The Maurader burger and loaded fries were excellent. Definitely going back!

Yelp
After reading all the reviews I was a little hesitant to try Captain Jim's out, but I'm so glad I did!! The staff is helpful in assisting you in the kayaks and the prices were average. I brought my father who has never used a kayak and is a little on the bigger side and they had a life vest to fit him and a sturdy kayak to keep him confident. It was a most pleasurable experience!

Yelp
Coolest lil spot in Gibraltar. Perfect location to rent kayaks from as it is right across from a kayak launch! Not only is it a rental shop, it's a coffee shop & gym. Staff are amazing & helpful, and the coffee is delish. Kayak the canals of Gibraltar or the Detroit river. They also offer guided tours, where beautiful wildlife is often seen!! The gift shop continues to get more & more cute products!!

Yelp
What a beautiful city and great idea for a kayak rental place. The problem is, I have helped or should I say rescued 5 people from their "sinking" kayaks!! The owner is incompetent to say the least!!! Don't even bother to try and talk with him, we are just all beneath him!!

Yelp
Terrible experience. Don't waste your money. From start to finish, owner "Captain Jim" was unprofessional and rude as can be. Embarrassment to the city if Gibraltar, not to mention a nuisance. Would give zero stars if I could.

Yelp
Good coffee. They have the standard coffee house staples latte, mocha, americano. Great for getting coffee and taking a walk around the area. The interior was clean and had a counter and a few tables to sit at.

Yelp
The staff was very friendly at time of purchasing a kayak and a couple boards for the day. But after realizing we were overcharged it was a different story. Going on a month now, and have yet to receive a credit for being overcharged. And unfortunately being the customer, I've had to contact the company numerous times and left messages with employees to try and get it resolved. Not once even receiving a call back from them. Even drove there just to be told a credit couldn't be issued since no manager was on duty. The workers that assisted me advised they couldn't help due to their age?? Why have a bunch of minors working if their unable to assist in an error on the company's behalf without a manager being there? Finally after my 4th call on 8/05, Candy advised she would make sure my credit card would receive a credit. Well as of today when I called my credit card, there hasn't been any attempts on any credits being issued. So once again I called the company back just to be told they can't credit my card but they will instead send me a check in the mail?? Unbelievable!! Unfortunately the customer service I've received. I cannot recommend this place to anybody.
