"After almost 50 years of operating in Irving, popular lunch destination Captain Nemo’s will close its doors for good. Captain Nemo’s announced that it would shutter at the end of the year in a Facebook post on December 6. 'Due to the difficulties during COVID-19, we have come to the point in our lives where we realize that we cannot continue the daily grind required, physically and financially, to keep things rolling along as they are,' the post reads. 'We have explored the possibility of finding someone to continue our legacy but have not found a suitable path to this end.' In the decades after Captain Nemo’s opened in 1973, the shop became a local lunchtime destination thanks to its enormous submarine sandwiches, especially the steak sub that served as the restaurant’s namesake. The shop’s carrot cake was also a beloved favorite. In the days following the restaurant’s sad announcement, fans of Captain Nemo’s flooded the sandwich shop with orders, resulting in wait times of longer than 45 minutes during peak hours. 'What an overwhelming response,' the restaurant’s owner wrote on Facebook. 'Please forgive us if we couldn’t get to the phone during lunch hours. We are just not able to get to it.' Captain Nemo’s is set to serve its final sandwiches on December 31." - Amy McCarthy

Had the double corned beef with spicy mustard and grilled green peppers and onions. Bread held up well with all of the condiments. Should have gotten single meetings that are double. Definitely could have used more mustard or some mayo. If I get a chance before they close, I'll have to try the steak.

So I grew up in Irving, this place will forever be imprinted in my childhood memories. It is still the only one in the world, there are no substitutes. The location is the same as it always has been. My grandparents always got the original, can’t go wrong.

Not a bad sandwich spot, and definitely a different take from the chains. I was admittedly excited when I stumbled across this place and saw the steak sandwiched. I stopped in for lunch and was blown away at the generous portion size of a double, especially thinking of the standard footlong sandwich. Upon devouring the sandwich I found the bread was delicious and freshly baked, the amount of steak on the sandwich was disappointing and standard streak sandwich toppings cost extra. Having to pay extra to add cheese to a steak sandwich doesn't seem right, especially when it is drowning in lettuce and tomatoes. In retrospect I would have opted for a smaller size with extra meat. I may give them another try in the future with this in mind. The spot is quiet and the service is good though. You could definitely do much worse.

Won't be back. I ordered two meals, $33. And that's ok, if the quality and service are good. I ordered a sandwich which comes with onion, and asked for tomato instead. It came with neither, and also without the two slices of cake I ordered. Ok, we make mistakes. I politely pointed both out to the server, and she returned with the two paper thin half slices of tomato in the picture. For an $11 sandwich. I don't know what I did to her, but this is ridiculous.

Great food. I live some distance from this off the main path sub shop. Just heard of it. Too bad they are closing at the end of December 2020 due to COVID. Get here when you can if you like cheese steak subs. You will wait a bit but they are worth it.

I've driven by this place and never came in. To me, it was average. Nothing too special about the sandwiches. The bread was overwhelming with not enough meat
