Delicious cookies & bread from Caputo’s! The moment you go in, the aroma of the baked goods is amazing. Everything looks so delicious & fresh! We had the Italian sandwich cookies with apricot filling & the raspberry filling dipped in chocolate. The apricot filling was are favorite. Prices are very affordable and the staff are so friendly! It is Cash-only so be prepared.

Absolutely delicious! The pretzel breads are crisp and chewy on the outside and a light flaky crumb on the inside. The lard bread is a meal in itself! The onion thingies on the counter are like a French onion soup on a bread! Too bad i live so far away. If I'm nearby again, this will be a pit stop for sure!

Iconic, landmark, amazing! An old school Italian bakery making magic with bread. From their basic loaves to olive bread to lard bread, this place makes amazing eats. And that's just the savory side of things. They also offer a wide assortment of cookies and cakes and sweets. Honestly never had anything from here that wasnt amazing. Be prepared for a line and a wait on some mornings, because the secret is out and folks know where to find the good stuff.

Everyone here is so kind and helpful! They made sure to let me know how to keep my bread fresh, it was so thoughtful! Also very affordable!!

The breads are worth all of your dough. Excellent loaves of all sorts. Go for the stuffed and filled ones, and you will not wish to share :)

In my honest opinion, this is probably one of the best bakeries in NYC. The service was wonderful, the pricing was fair, and I think they have the best rainbow cookie in the US. We had one of everything of the small cookies. The only thing you'll regret is not trying more items.

We'd always stop by Caputo's for some bagels or croissants, but of course they have tons of other amazing baked goods as well. This is your quintessential Carroll Gardens Italian bake shop. Great, friendly people, great prices, and amazingly delicious breads, bagels, baked goods, etc.

The lard bread, Easter bread, Italian bread are all soooo delicious!! The counter staff are very polite & helpful with the customers!

Walking down Court Street I looked into the window of Caputo's Bake Shop and just knew that this is an amazing bakery. I wasn't disappointed. Walking in I was surrounded by the wonderful aroma of delicious bread. Just at all of their bread is eye candy. There are so many varieties of thick crusted breads along with challah and scones, you want to buy one of each. We choose a sourdough bread, a cranberry-walnut bread and a scone. As we continued walking in the neighborhood it was hard not to continue nibbling on the breads that I was carrying. It's just a really great bakery for breads and not so fancy baking. There aren't cakes and pies, just baking that touches the soul.

Such friendly and kind service, not only to me but to all the customers while I was there. The delicious baked goods are amazing too - cheesecake, almond croissant. I really appreciate the genuine kindness displayed by the staff. I'll definitely be back.

Get your bread here. Get your croissants here. The value is incredible. I've become borderline addicted to their chocolate croissants and their small sesame loaf. This is old school, no preservative stuff, so eat it fast. Cash only but super affordable. Every time they quote my total I'm convinced they forgot to ring in an item. I ask and they confirm it's correct. Lovely people work here too, treat them nice!

Old fashioned Italian bakery, small and cash only. The Linzer tart is almost flawless, as the biscuit tastes amazing and the jam inside tastes smooth and fruity. There is a nice dusting of powder sugar to not feel overwhelmed. They serve other breads as well, but as it is cash only, try not to go overboard here unless you have the dough. I recommend. Just come early before they run out of the stuff.

I heard wonderful things about this place over the years and on a recent road trip from Florida to Rhode Island, I had to stop and check it out. I started with a freshly baked, warm roll with butter, simple as that, and it was amazing! I'm not a bread and butter, kind of guy, but this was a real old-school treat! After that, I think I bought one of everything they sell and brought it with me on the remainder of my journey. When I arrived, I gave it to my dad's girlfriend, a 90-year-old Italian lady who really knows her food and she was in heaven when she smelled and tasted everything. Great experience! I can't wait to go back.

Wow. Another authentic Brooklyn bake shop you just can't pass by. Inside it was clearly not competing for bakery and cookie biz. There were some ok looking items but It was mostly fresh bread and baking right on premises. Nearby neighbors said the lines on holidays are around the block lol. A real local favorite. Regular, semolina, twisted, round, with or without seeds. Also seeds on both top and bottom will take you from $2.25 to $2.45. A bargain can be had for this delicious authentic Italian bread.

Great little bakery for breads and simple cookies. They also have some birthday cakes and wonderful focaccia. Cash only, no frills, old school spot. Prices are super reasonable, definitely the best bread spot in this part of BK.

This is the best place for Easter bread (sweet bread). No one compares. Also great bread, bread sticks and cake.

This review is a long time coming. Years ago, how many has it been anyway?, I'll admit to having had a few unfortunate badhabits and ultimately left the east coast just to get away from a certain influence typical of the era. This was a bit like throwing the baby out with the bathwater as the saying goes because one casualty was the loss of my source for prosciutto bread: D&G bakery at 45 Spring St in Soho/Little Italy. D&G had been a go-to for almost 7 days a week when I lived two blocks away because this bakery had the best wood fired oven in town. Best of all was the prosciutto bread which is also known by its much less charming but equally accurate name, lard bread. If you've never had this and you're prone to weight gain or heart problems, best stop reading now. To get down to it, there's no more real Italian bread baked in lower Manhattan, any more than there's much left of Little Italy itself other than 3 or 4 blocks that are needed as the venu for San Gennaro week in mid September. So I finally had occasion to be in Brooklyn recently and hunted down Caputo's which is where usually reliable sources recommended I could find this incredible bread today. (To give you an idea of how incredible by the way, it's on my Yelp menu for last meal requests, along with a bottle of aged Gattinara.) With all this preface the actual review of Caputo's and its version is short and sweet. The bakery is the real deal alright, though to my eye they bake too many different items to suit me, I'd rather this be a bread only but in this day and age you gotta diversify I guess. The main agenda for me, Caputo's Prosciutto bread, is quite good. I prefer the thinner ring form because its shape give more surface area so it's more crusty, but these loaves are fine, too. Wonder if they'll FEDEX a dozen or so?

The lard bread here truly doesn't disappoint! The name sounds a tad unappealing but dont be deterred, this is absolutely the tastiest loaf of bread I've ever had! The lard bread consists of salami, cheese, and black pepper. You can't go wrong with heating it up and eating it with butter.

Wonderful and friendly staff. The woman who usually works there is so warm and nice! Every bread we've tried has been fresh, delicious, and a good price. The lard bread was like nothing I had before and YUM! The sour dough is also great and seems really popular. Supermarket bread can't compare to fresh baked bread. This is the place to go for fresh bread. It's always busy with locals but never more than a few minute wait.

Go to Caputo's and pick a bread - any bread - they're all good. Its really hard to find decent bread in 2023. But this store? You can't go wrong.

High quality old world bakery. Straight forward set up inside. No seating or counter space so just for pick up. Massive selection of pastries/cookies or rolls and loafs. I paid with cash, not sure if they accept card but worth asking Passed by on my way somewhere else and the huge selection of breads from the window instantly lured me in. Just tried a cranberry pistachio bread and pretzel roll, both were incredible. Had to throw this picture before they were gone. Definitely returning, and marking as the go-to for quality homemade breads

I moved into the neighborhood 3 weeks ago and did not really realize how fortunate I was to be steps away from them. The bread here is truly worth all the accolades and praise that it has received - but I also think the old school graciousness of the staff makes coming here truly special. The lard bread does not disappoint. Lightly toasted it on a cast iron pan and had it for breakfast. Good on its own - but also great with scrambled eggs.

My mother had been sending me here since I was nine years old when a nine year old can walk the streets with no problem. I am now 54 and still a customer and not just a customer on a personal level but now buy their bread for my business. This place is closest to my heart. Whenever I see the owner, he always asks how is my family doing, my brothers and sisters, my cousins. This place is definitely like family. God Bless them.

Heard about their lard bread. It was the best I ever tasted. Loaded with prosciutto, salami, cheese and a little black pepper. Will be buying again. Highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.

When you do a search for 'awesome bakeries in Brooklyn' - Caputo's always makes the list. And while they've got plenty of yummy looking loaves of bread and cookies* for days - I believe they're on that list because of their amazingly scrumptious 'lard bread.' I know I know what the heck could be so good about something lovingly referred to as 'lard bread.' While I too wish it went by a prettier name I think if you changed the name you'd be taking away whole identity which is just pure scrumptiousness.. This bread, you guys, has chunks of pepperoni and provolone baked right inside and you each bite reminds you of such. It's peppery and smoky and savory and under no circumstance do you need to slather it with butter. This bread had all the flavors and its perfect on its own. ** The loaf is probably about a foot long and will run you just over $5 but it is the best investment you'll make all week. *I also purchased a b/w cookie. It was ok...not my favorite in the city but a solid choice if you need a touch of sweet to go with your savory baked goods. **Unless maybe you serve it with a nice bowl of warm tomato sauce... that might be amazing. Plus tomatoes are healthy and might help to balance out the lard portion of 'lard bread'.

I truly love any excuse to visit this bakery. Most of the time, it's when we go to visit my husband's best friend. So, being the good friends that we are, not showing up empty handed, we were lured into Caputo's Bake Shop by the shear heavenly smell of baked goodness. $2.50 for freshly made iced tea that they will happily add sugar to for you. Size? LARGE. For $2.50! It was some of the most delicious and refreshing homemade iced teas I've had in a while that is free from anything artificial. I am a sucker for getting a pound of assorted cookies, that I usually hand pick. They have a wonderful variety, and they treat you like family. The package it up for you with care and with a smile. Their rainbow cookies are a personal favorite and look the most unique to me! Consistently good no matter what day and what season.

Every St. Paddy's Day, I make a Boiled Dinner with the works. No idea why, what with me not having even an ounce of Irish in me. But March 17th. just wouldn't be the same without Corned Beef, Cabbage, 'n Potatoes. And of course, Irish Soda Bread. Over the years, I've bought it at various places, with Whole Foods being one of the more memorable since theirs was so downright sucky. Hot Bread Kitchen's wasn't much better. BK restaurant and bakeshop, Runner & Stone made a version in muffin form that I really loved, though this year they skipped it, sadly. So I went on a quest for a new source and somehow or another, wound up here: Now I can just imagine the thought bubble over your heads: Getting Irish Soda Bread at an Italian Bakery? WTF?!? I was just as dubious. Thus, imagine my surprise when this turned out to be my favorite out of all many I've tried. It was a perfect hybrid of cakey and bready, with just enough raisins to add sweetness without grossing out those who tend to hate even the mere thought of what pretty much amounts to sun dried, wrinkled grapes. It was especially delicious slathered with some of the Kerrygold Butter we'd splurged on for the occasion. And slices were still moist and fresh tasting a couple days after purchase. As if all this weren't enough, a generous round of this runs just $3.75. On impulse, I also grabbed a Black & White Cookie. I haven't had one of these in ages, but the soft, cakey ones from Leske's in Bay Ridge have always been my gold standard. I'd say this version is a contender. Even after I forgot it in our fridge for a few days! Also really appreciated the sweet, helpful service. I'd called to find out if they had Irish Soda Bread, and the friendly girl who answered immediately volunteered to put a loaf aside for me. "They sell out really fast," she explained. Bottom line: Once upon a time, I lived a couple blocks from from this bakeshop, and am not unfamiliar with it. It makes me happy to see that it's still thriving in spite of the ever-gentrifying neighborhood and I hope it continues to do so. 'Cause I'll be back for more Irish Soda Bread next year and with any luck... of the Irish if you will... I'll return even sooner to try other items.:)

Being a Brooklyn girl you know italian bread. This bakery i have been coming to since i was a baby . Once we moved to tampa it's very hard to find really good seeded italian bread or even lard bread. So when ever I come home to Brooklyn this is a must stop . Then on the way to the airport I have to bring 5 to 6 loaves of bread home to share with my sister . This bakery makes some delicious cookies and cakes but there real money maker is the breads .most weekend they have a line starting at 8am when they open because the bread is just coming out the oven and the smell is simply amazing. I miss my breads and bagels from Brooklyn. So now I just buy a lot and freeze them and pop them in the oven and it is just amazing italian bread. The staff is friendly and helpful especially when I tell them I'm going on a plane so they add alittle extra packaging for a safe arrival to tampa lol. So if you are ever in Brooklyn and need a bakery this is one of the best .

An old school Italian bakery which feels like a walk back in time when you enter. I remember going to places like this with my grandfather and pressing my face against the glass to stare as much as I could at the cookies in the case. Came in to buy cookies for a gathering. Jumbo jam and chocolate filled cookies are $6 a pound!!!! They also have VERY good half and half cookies (some call them black and whites). Brought everything home to some very happy customers. Staff at the bake shop are super warm and friendly, even pointed us in the direction of the closest market. There aren't too many places like this left, go while you still can.

Love Caputo's. My coworker lived in Brooklyn and recommended this place. Now, whenever I'm in NYC, I stop by here. Also a cool walk through parts of Brooklyn on the way here. Bringing back pastries for the office doesn't hurt either. We don't have a bakery like this in Huntsville.

Bakery is nothing very special (except for the old school flair, perhaps), overall quality is pretty decent, perhaps even 3 stars. However, what is inacceptable is the fact that they aggressively hand out plastic bags to customers, asking every customer whether they want a bag. I complained about that, wondering whether it was even legal for them to continue to hand out plastic bags at all. I was then told that the owner insisted that staff asks clients whether they needed a bag (and indeed, I was asked that same question, even though I had a backpack). Owner: Here is your one star for filling the planet with trash. No, I don't need a plastic bag, nor does anyone else. It is actually possible for people to learn to remember to bring their own bags. Really!

Excellent bakery for fresh bread. Recently tried the fennel and raisin loaf which goes well with soup. Had one of their ciabatta combo baguettes, which was the perfect base for steak sandwiches. Extremely reasonable prices for some of the best bread you'll find in Brooklyn!

Its so nice to have a real bread shop. Reminds me of old New Yawk. I prefer the olive loaves but you can't go wrong with anything here. The Italian cookies are yummy. This is as authentic as it gets!

I have a rule. It goes like this: If you're peering at the window display of a bakery trying to decide if you should walk in and grab something and a random old woman that you don't know stops to tell you that you MUST buy a certain item...you buy it. Especially if it's called Lard Bread. You might be saying to yourself, "Lard Bread doesn't sound like a healthy snack. I should probably stick to carrot sticks today." Well, maybe you should go on with your healthful, sad, Lard Bread-less existence. Because Lard Bread is not healthy. It is aptly named for the lardasses who love it, myself included. Lard Bread is a lazy, fat man's dream. It's a buttery, peppery loaf of fresh bread stuffed with chunks of pepperoni and cheese. It's a sandwich that you don't have to make. It is a self-contained, delicious treat that requires no effort. You just eat it warm right from the bakery, or bring it home and heat it up in the oven and you're ready to go. It's my new favorite food group. And at $4.75, it's also a steal.

Strolling around Carroll Gardens and needed to bring home a loaf of bread for dinner. Noticed Caputo's which didn't look like much from the outside but the stream of customers going in at 4pm was amazing so I checked it out on yelp and decided to give it a try. Not only did it have many varieties of bread, cakes and pastries but the service could not have been more friendly or helpful. Children and grown ups alike all served with care. Definitely a good choice. (And the bread was good too!)

Wow, words cannot express the amazingness of the lard bread here. I'll try though: get over here ASAP with just $4.75 in hand for one of the most satisfying things you will ever eat. For this small fee, you will get a massive loaf of the lard bread. It is way too much for one person, and probably even two, but it is still well worth it even if you only eat half of it. I was lucky enough to get a loaf that was still nice and warm, so it was even more amazing. It is the most moist, flavorful bread you could ever imagine, with massive chunks of prosciutto generously spread throughout. I don't want to know how bad the lard bread must be for you - I'm guessing it must be terrible though, given how ridiculously good it tastes and also for the fact that it is called "lard" bread. Also, my hands and lips were nice and wet when I was done eating it. Delicious. I can't wait to go back for more. I'm sure the other stuff here is also probably awesome, but I don't see how I can come here and not get the lard bread (and getting anything in addition to that would speed up the road to morbid obesity).

These old school bakeries are fewer and fewer these days, and it's a shame they are gems of nyc from a different time. The have wide variety of bread, and it reasonably priced for bakery. Some of the best bread I had in a while. I know there's convenience of supermarket bread and butchers, but I still I find the quality and the actual price well worth the difference. I am sure this place gets very busy on the weekends during the day, I stopped by around 7am so there was no line. Highly recommended

This place is totally unsanitary and the old man is to old to run it. When you walk in in the morning for a cup of coffee and they make your bagel w/cream cheese or hand you a croissant that was grabbed with a piece of wax paper or gloves that might relax your thoughts for the moment. But what you need to know is I seen with my own eyes early morning where they don't use gloves nor paper to stock all the goods. It's a no no to this place. I'll stick to MAZOLA BAKERY ON UNION BETTER COFFEE BETTER SERVICE AND A+ with food handling always.

Caputo's is the best bakery for Italian bread, rustic, chabatta or any other like Olive loaf etc. You can't miss! They are second to none! I don't even want bread from any other bakery. So grateful that they are still open during CV19

Truth be told the recipes are dated and it shows. Don't expect the pastries to knock your socks off with flavor or refinement, for these cannoli come from a different time. A different world really. Yet this is a good thing. Keeping tradition is an art too often lost. We all want to know what the old Brooklyn smelt and tasted like and Caputo's is it. To really bring home some nostalgia pick up some Pane di Pasqua for easter supper.

This is one of those old time gems that are few in number but well worth seeking out. The breads and pastries dont just look beautiful they taste great as well. Prices are also very reasonable considering the quality of their baked goods. Staff are friendly and helpful. There's a reason they have been around for as long as they have and its nice to see that they have weathered this past year successfully.

Any excuse to detour onto Court Street is made just to pass by Caputo's! Everything is amazing but especially the olive loaf and anything Semolina! I just hope they NEVER change a thing - the sign, the hanging string, lights -it's just a magical time capsule!

This bakery is a solid old school bakery which is good. Unfortunately the service is sometimes incredibly rude. People seem to be complaining about that so I know I'm not the only one on the receiving end of this hostility.

Used to be very good. Now...not so much. Last 3 times we went the bread and the sweets were all flat or stale. Too bad. Will be using Mazzola and Monteleone instead.

I walked in for a small box of cookies, with the good reviews I figured I couldn't go wrong with some fresh bakery cookies. Came all the way home to try them with my mom and we have never been so disappointed. The cookies were hard and ridiculously stale. Can't see myself going back there.

When your friends have a hankering for cheesecake, skip the long lines and expensive prices tags at Junior's and head over to Caputo's. This unassuming bakery is known by all the locals, has long time staff that are quick and friendly, and they dole out baked goods for outstanding prices. The cheesecake i bought was fresh and a mere $8.50. Its heavy on the lemon, which at first wasn't my favorite but now, its what i prefer when compared to those other cheesecakes. The acid is needed to cut the sweetness and lets the ingredients shine. This is a great cheesecake! They have other goodies here, like fresh bread, but its no sit down bakery.

I grew up a couple blocks away and when I think of bread this place is the standard everyplace is held too.. sadly no place matches their quality. I teethed on this bread as a baby and it will always be special to me. Try the Italian cookies and pastries too you will not be disappointed their Italian semolina bread is the best in the city hands down. Even though I live in upstate NY now I still go back and buy my baked goods here.

My hubby grew up getting baked goods from here and always raved about it and I finally had the chance to go with him. It is a lot smaller inside than in the pictures but no matter as good things come in small packages! Our server was such a nice lady - very patient and made some great recommendations. We got some italian bread - which was some of the best I've ever eaten - light and fluffy yet crunchy and flavorful. We then got some black and white cookies (more like little cakes that were so thick and the icing was delicious - I normally don't like black & whites but these were very good). We brought home a nice assortment of italian cookies and they were very good - very buttery, light and flavorful. And of course got some lard bread - omg such great stuff - heated it up a bit in the toaster oven and it was heavenly! Will definitely hit here the next time we are in the area.

A no-frills bakery that offers delicious baked goods. Their bagels are fresh and oh so delicious, and they cost around .85! Lapin loves their rainbow cookies and they are delicious but a bit pricey to indulge in everyday. Their chocolate chip cookies and brownies are delicious and moist. Prices are fair but the customer service cashier sometimes have an attitude.
