The Best Chicken Noodle Soup in NYC | Eater NY

"This homey Italian stalwart — founded in Queens Village in 1970 and expanded to a second location in Long Island — doles out five kinds of soups. The chicken soup boasts shreds of chicken, chunks of carrots, and little balls of pastina that roll around in every mouthful." - Caroline Shin

Oh my God why don't I live down the street from this restaurant. Because I'd be 400 lb! This is an old school Italian restaurant. Reminded me of the food I grew up with. Staff is fantastic. And the food is lovely. Good for families, couples, large groups or small. I schleped all of our leftovers back to Seattle the next day. YUMMY!

Google
Had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding here and it was great. Food was awesome probably best fried calamari I’ve ever had and multiple people at my party felt the same. Never went thirsty waiters kept the drinks coming like champs. A little tight for big parties but we made it work. Price per plate was very fair for quality of food for sure. Would definitely come back and recommend.

Cara Mia has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants, and I can see why it is such a special place for my girlfriend’s family. They go there for every big celebration and now I understand why. We went with a group of 10 to celebrate three birthdays and everything was fantastic. I had the veal pizaoli and it was absolutely bonkers. The food across the table was amazing and the service was just as good. The staff is warm and welcoming, and they made us feel completely at home. My girlfriend’s uncle loves the place so much he has built a relationship with the owners. Whenever her parents and aunt and uncle go, they are greeted like family, which says a lot about the care and hospitality here. By the end of the night I was stuffed and even though we stayed past closing time, the staff remained friendly and never once made us feel rushed. That kind of service is rare and worth recognizing. Highly recommend Cara Mia for anyone looking for incredible food, great service, and a true family atmosphere.

Google
The food was incredible, everything tasted homemade in the best way! Portions are huge that the prices are well worth it!

Google
We are regular customers. I love the food, the atmosphere, and the personality we interact with Carlos, the owner every time But today, we were there to celebrate my grandson's birthday. We sat down next to the bar, which we never do. The waitress on that side took my utensils without asking me if I finished. I got distraught that they were rushing us when we were regular customers.

Google
The food is amazing. Hands down one of the best Italian restaurants around. Very friendly service. They don't take reservations, so be prepared to wait during busy times.

Google
Did pick up there one afternoon and from the time I ordered to the time I ate was amazing. The person taking the order was very nice. When I got to the restaurant, it was beautiful inside and also full but they were able to attend to me immediately for my pick up. The food was delicious and amazing. Haven’t had such good Italian food in a long time. Definitely our new go to spot for Italian food.

Google
Everything at Cara Mia is amazing. The food is excellent, and the service is outstanding. We didn’t catch our waiter’s name but he was phenomenal, he even ran out into the rain because someone in our party forgot their cell phone. We had a great dining experience!

Yelp
First time here today. Food and service was great. Generous portions. Veal was tender and cooked perfect. Each dish had very nice sauces and flavor. Same for the Chicken dish. Calamari and Baked Clams were delicious. Will be going back.

Yelp
Came here in a Tuesday night with my friend and my brother. Got seated right away. The restaurant eventually filled up compellingly which was a good sign of how great this place is. Staff was very friendly and checked in on us constantly. Iliked the look of the restaurant, - very cozy. We shared the Fried Calamari which was really good. I liked how they had Eggplant Rolatini (one of my favs) as an Appetozer even though we didn't order it. My friend ordered Sergio's Reserve Pork Chops and my brother had the Pork Chop Voldostano, both of which they loved. I still definately be back. My friend came back twice more since then with his family.

Yelp
Really good service here they are very attentive. Nice atmosphere with white table linens - perfect for a date night. Good drinks - I had one of their special drinks with prosecco and orange juice tasted like a mimosa. I ordered gnocchi and told them to use pesto sauce in it - it wasn't on the menu but they were able to accomodate me - the portion was huge and served in a beautiful scooped plate/bowl. My husband's salad looked amazing and had really good and generously portioned provolone cheese cut up in long cubes inside it. Drinks are on the pricey sideGive this place a try!

Yelp
10/10/24. Last minute plants to dine at one of my favorite Italian places. Ordered the shrimp parm (with a side of penne bolognese), and zuppa de pesce. These dishes are my favorites, and were wonderful! My only one pet peeve is being asked if I am done, while I am still eating, but other than that Jordan and Thomas were great. Plus the music was great, all 80's/90's, ha. Highly recommend this family owned restaurant.

Brian K.

Yelp
The service was exceptional. Very kind Waiter staff attentive and polite. They were helpful with recommendations. My first time eating there it was very busy on a Friday . I came once before w/o a reservation the wait was long so didn't opt to stay. -Meatballs appetizer were good size and flavor. -my Linguine Calamari Fra Diablo was exceptional. The marinara was superb with right amount of balance in the spice. The Calamari were plentiful with great texture . Again the sauce had a bit of chunk not sweet very good!!

Yelp
Cara Mia was fantastic! A nice quiet Italian restaurant, with a cozy atmosphere. I had the chicken park and it was great. I also tried the spaghetti and meatballs and it was delicious! Can't forget about dessert though. As great as the meal was, the rainbow cookie cheesecake was out of this world. It's definitely worth saving some room for. The service as great as well. Definitely towards the top of my list for best Italian restaurants. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
This is our favorite restaurant, they use to be a few blocks from us but moved. And we followed! I have to say this place never disappointed us. The food was even better this time! I love their fettuccine Alfredo, it has always been the best I have! This time it was even more delicious it was an 11/10. Yes it was so perfect! Right amount of cream and packed with flavor! I was beyond impressed! We love their chicken francaise and it was amazing this time around! Come with an empty stomach because their servings are not small, well worth the price. The new decor has a modern/ romantic feel. This is great for dates, family dinners, and special events. This one is larger than the last one. They definitely upgraded! And the best part is they kept their servers! They are all still there!! And just as attentive and kind as ever! We love you Cara Mia!

Yelp
Great place for family gatherings. Food was bountiful and delicious. Pumpkin beer was surprisingly good with salted rim. Welcoming, warm, and caring staff. Ambience - relaxing and enjoyable.

Yelp
I've been to this Floral Park location countless times since it opened and each time it's been consistently good. The hostesses are friendly and the wait staff attentive. The food portions are generous and tasty. The space is on the smaller side and it gets crowded very easily. There's a bar but it's usually packed. Bring your appetite but be prepared to wait. It's worth it.

Yelp
I have been going to Cara Mia since it was on hillside back in the early 2000s. This place never fails with amazing food and service!! I rarely crave salads but everytime I come I order the pazzo salad which is an amazing medly of grilled veggies and salad. I opt for no provolone because it's a little strong for my taste. I love the oreganato dishes but always have something different because they always have different specials that have been amazing. Today in particular we had the shortrib pappardelle. If it happens to be on the specials when you come, get it!!! The cocktails are also delicious!!
google avatar

Yelp
Huge portions. Every thing we ate was delicious. Best fried calamari .Eggplant Rollatini was average. Unfortunately they do not take reservations for less than 6 people.

Yelp
I love going to places What I look for is all the qualities that will prompt me to return & keep my inclination enthused. Cara Mia has the vibe & orientation to curate your dining experience accordingly to your taste. Tonight was my first time here so I'll be back!

Yelp
Came here for my monthly family dinner (all 21 of us) and it didn't disappoint. Being a large group, we opted for a limited menu and everything we got was delicious and fresh. From the baked clam appetizers to the chicken parm, nothing bad could be said. The wait staff was friendly and constantly checking up on us to see how everything was. For such a large group, they were on their A-game in terms of service. The restaurant is super nice and is both great for families and couples. This is a great place and I highly recommend if you're looking for top tier Italian food.

Yelp
Went to Cara Mia again as I usually do on occasion.....Their food never disapoints......I had the combonation chicken and shrimp francaise......Very good meal with penne butter sauce on the side......Their pasta portions are the best around.......If you want a great meal at a reasonable price Check this place out

Yelp
Great food, portions, service, location western Nassau perfect for those of us working in Queens and living in Western Nassau

Yelp
The food was better this time around. Ambience remains the same, and unfortunately the main dinning room is still very loud. I really think they should look into some type of ceiling tile treatment that would dampen the noise level. Next time I'll try to get a table by the fireplace. Wait time for seating was about 40 minutes, as they do not take reservations. The review is now 3.5 stars!

Yelp
So today's is Valentines Day and I make my way to Cara Mia with my lady. Low and behold an HOUR and a half wait because there are people with reservations. I ask the hostess "why is it when I called to make reservation for Valentines Day, I was told only a table of six or more people are allowed for said reservation? Which she proceeds to tell me "Oh no we do couple reservations on Valentines Day! WTH?? Night almost ruined, I was beyond pissed a waste of time and gas. Thank God for VIAGGIOS in RVC they made night memorable and had my wife smiling for ear to ear. Just to show I'm not TROLLING I included picture of phone call I made to ensure reservation. You guys lost a good customer, MAKE IT RIGHT! For now anybody who asks I'll tell them to steer clear. Today 2-14-24

Yelp
In an era in which nothing is as good as it used to be, tonight we experienced the rare exception Cara Mia! Terrific service, food, ambiance. The room is lively yet quieter. You can actually enjoy the conversation of your table.
google avatar

Yelp
We came here after deciding we've had enough of the diner. The restaurant is literally packed so we have to wait ten minutes. We're shown to a great table in the back. I'm hooked on ordering the minestrone soup. My friend decides no, but I know she'll be wanting some! Ha ha ! It's Friday so I stick with the cheese ravioli my guest goes with the manicotti We also order a nice bottle of montepulciano The wine is just right. The pastas are just delicious. The tomato sauce very, very tasty. I end with an espresso. This may very well become our go to Italian place in town. BRAVO!
google avatar

A. B.

Yelp
The food was excellent as always. I still miss the original location because it was more intimate but they now have so much more room. With that I would recommend avoiding the busiest times as my wait time was 45 minutes but it was well worth it. My friend and I loved the apps, dinner and dessert. The drinks were great too.

Lauren K.

Yelp
A great meal all around. Highlights were the Pazzo salad and the rainbow cookie cheesecake-each one of the best in their respective categories I've ever had. Writing this review specifically to praise the family-friendliness of the establishment. We brought a 7 month old baby and despite it being slightly upscale, they welcomed us with open arms and even presented the baby with a "Cara Mia" bib. That's something I've never seen before and was so appreciated! Thank you!

Yelp
We have eaten here many times The food has consistently been good we especially like the chopped clams and the chicken,Cara Mia shrimp monachina, shrimp parm, penne ala vodka, and gnocchi bolognese. Service is consistently good. Ambience is warm and inviting. also, the bread is quite good.
google avatar

Harriet L.

Yelp
Food was wonderful and plentiful atmosphere, and there is lovely, especially if you're in the room where the bar is it's much smaller and not quite as boisterous. Service is good and attentive and I would definitely go back
google avatar

Melanie R.

Yelp
The food here is great. We started with the half dozen baked clams. The sauce in it was delicious. Great to dip your bread in. I ordered the calamari Fra Diablo. It was a big portion. The sauce was medium spicy. The food was great. The service was good. I would definitely recommend it for great Italian food.

Alana M.

Yelp
This place fell off. I was disappointed. The new location is very nice. The quality of the ingredients is not the same. The tomato sauce in my daughter's spaghetti and meatballs tasted like it was straight from the can. No flavor at all. I finally made it here after they moved from the Queens Village location. There's no need for me to return.

Yelp
Went for lunch with 3 friends... The 4 of us like to dine by sharing appys-the staff got into it right away and understood how we lunch Suggestions came and as well as support for our choices... The mussels were the best I have ever had... All open, plump and inserted garlic residing within their shells The Nonna 's meatballs are divine and big enough to cut 4 ways Eggplant rollatini, clams and calamari and rounded out our choices The waiters even pulled out another table and added it to our feast so that we could maneuver our passing and dispatch dishes The wine chimed in and enhanced the meal... The cozy rustic decor and black tablecloths and napkins worked. Who wants sauce stains marring white tablecloths? Brilliant idea! Recommend highly No resos at lunch
google avatar

Gayle K.

Yelp
I have never had a bad meal here. My favorites are: meatballs (hero and platter), shrimp parm (hero), chicken parm (hero & platter), baked ziti with eggplant (delicious!). I think they stopped adding eggplant to the baked ziti but still very good. The red sauce has great flavor and the food in general has great flavor without anything being overpowering. Perfectly seasoned which I find d rare today with so many restaurants having a heavy hand with pepper or the like (as if trying to cover up something). - not here. No complaints on any of my orders. Portion size is great!! I always have leftovers. I definitely want to try other dishes!!
google avatar

Yelp
Found this gem on vacation with our kids (ages 6-8). They had a fantastic gluten free pasta, and their pizza and calzone were awesome. This was a lucky find as there wasn't a whole lot around and restaurants can be a bit of a gamble in towns you're not familiar with.
google avatar

Yelp
Best Eggplant Rollatini ..ever Cavatelli Burrata with spicy vodka sauce Rainbow Cookie Tini..no words ..absolutely a MUST Desserts..just average They need to spruce up desserts to match food and drinks
google avatar

Kenny D.

Yelp
Very good Italian restaurant, the wait staff was very attentive and made sure we were comfortable. They kept checking in on us. We were able to just walk in at 6pm on a weekday, I'm sure they're very busy on the weekends and that would not be the case. The ambiance is quiet, nice old school decor. The food is plentiful, don't fill up on the bread. The lava cake was delicious and so was the lasagna.

Saints In H.

Yelp
I've been at very good Italian restaurants in the five boroughs and Long Island but Cara Mia is absolutely the best restaurant hands-down the food is so fresh so tasty. The service is great. The ambience is beautiful. The Portions are huge. They would be seeing me more often.

Linda P.

Yelp
I loved this restaurant when it was in queens.the portions were big, tasty, and good price.i also liked that it was family owned and they also worked there.it was a comfy spot to have dinner. I will try and make it to floral park....i hope it is like the one in queens.

Brendan H.

Yelp
Got lucky. No wait for a table for 2. Garlic bread was good. Sunday sauce special was great. Sausage, meatball, and braised short ribs over rigatoni. Delicious. Chicken parm was excellent. Super tender. It was enough food for 4 people. Will be back.
google avatar

Breanna N.

Yelp
This was my favorite restaurant when they were in queens village. My grandpa used to love it here and we'd come twice a month when he was alive. We stopped coming during covid and I didn't realize they closed. The best thing for me was finding their new location because it's so much more convenient for me. The staff is always great and super accommodating. The food never fails. I love the chicken parm, chicken Marsala, and the salmon. The calamari is always delicious and I even order it take out when I'm having people over. If you haven't been here yet, what are you waiting for??

Susan S.

Yelp
Had the Cara Mia veal and eggplant It as good but the veal tasted old. The service was very good attentive and pleasant

Yelp
After visiting Cara Mia's other locations - past and present - I knew where I wanted to go when I was super hungry and ready for a great Italian comfort meal. We arrived at 6:30 with a 40 minute wait, which wasn't unexpected for a Saturday night. After being seated around 7:20, we put in our drink orders and the white sangria came out fast and was good - and the bread for the table was hands down the star of the show. After ordering appetizers and mains as soon as we got our drinks, we waited in anticipation, and then waited, and waited, and waited some more. Finally, at 8:52 PM, after avoiding our attempts to make eye contact and not checking on us a single time, our waiter came over and said the mozzarella sticks we ordered would be right out. 85 minutes after we placed the order and not even an apology! The mozzarella sticks had great breading, and we asked for our entrees immediately and they were good, but truthfully after waiting 2 hours we had lost our appetites and barely made progress on the entrees. The cavatelli burrata did look as good as it does on Instagram, and had great flavor, but the awful service and failure to acknowledge the awful service was really head scratching. Other tables who came in after us were leaving before we even got our food, and the way our waiter kept avoiding us when we attempted to get his attention to ask about the wait was something I've never seen before. Unfortunately, we certainly won't be back here again - not because of the wait, because mistakes do happen - but because of the failure to acknowledge that something went wrong on the part of the restaurant. A simple apology for the mishap would have gone a long way.
google avatar

Debra M.

Yelp
Room for improvement ! Food runners need to know what food goes to who before bringing it out to the table and catching a attitude. Real turn off . Three entrees and only one was a 10 , the other two pasta dishes were missing something .... Taste To early to tell ... wait for my review in two months from now.... Teach your waiters the wine menu as well !

JoAnn G.

Yelp
New location, food was great, just as tasty as the old location, portions are large, certainly enough for a second meal! Service was very good, but not oppressive, Love the new decor
google avatar

Victoria R.

Yelp
Finally made it to the new location and the place looks wonderful. The food was amazing as usual. The staff old and new were super nice with smiles and wonderful service. The best of the best.
google avatar

Yelp
This was our first time to Cara Mia. We heard wonderful things about it and were looking forward to it. We were going to have a drink at the bar while we waited for our table. The bartender (I didn't get her name, but I wish I did). We sat down and she didn't even acknowledge us. There were 3 other people waiting to order drinks. She was busy with the service bar,but she didn't even say, "I'll be with you as soon as I can", or something like that. We waited for almost 15 minutes for a drink! She looked so miserable, never smiled once and was rude. She was the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5.That was our introduction to CaraMia. Fortunately, it got better! I had the best eggplant parm I have ever had! The calamari and Cesar salad were excellent! For dessert I had the rainbow cookie cheesecake. One of the best desserts I have ever had! It was a bit noisy though. We definitely will be back!
google avatar

Khadeeja J.

Yelp
Came in and was seated right away. The atmosphere was dim and peaceful. Service was great and fast. Will be returning soon

Yelp
The Pazzo salad was a huge success with the Soldo and Baratta families. The calamari was terrific with the Baratta and Soldo families. I had the sea Chilean sea bass and Shrimp franchese special with iced tea and lemon. My mom had the veal special. Everyone else had from the menu. The lemon Sorbet was good. Thank you for making my sister Birthday celebration a success.

Diane S.

Yelp
The fish is very good bit of a limited menu, and the bartender that could do a better job making cocktails

Barbara T.

Yelp
We really enjoyed this restaurant. It is kind of a family style place as the portions can be rather large (not necessarily a bad thing). The eggplant rollatini was delicious; as was the Calamari Fritti and Caesar salad. The mixed seafood in tomato sauce was amazing and huge. We also had fettucini alfredo, yum. Make sure to make a reservation as they are very busy. We can't wait to go back.

Jeffrey R.

Yelp
From the parking, to the hostess, to the waiter, there's NOTHING to ever complain about this Fine Italian Restaurant. The Food is outstanding no matter what you order. Large portions too.. Don't forget the desserts.. I hope you do another 50+ years

Axel D.

Yelp
The food was amazing I had the eggplant for the lunch special and it was delicious. My grandpa is allergic to gluten and just very picky but our waiter was super helpful and patient with him accommodating him. I would absolutely go back.
