This might be a little controversial, but after trying both this place and the Colombian pop-up that also happens in the same space on different weekends, I think I prefer the Colombian pop-up's arepas. While Caracasville's were definitely pretty good, I just don't think they measured up - at least the ones I ordered.
I got two different arepas: the chorizo and the pulled-pork. To start I want to note as in my previous review of the Colombian pop-up that one arepa is probably enough, but I am a little bit of a pig and also wanted to try multiple fillings. Now onto the food...First, the chorizo arepa was delicious, but it was made with a Mexican style chorizo that tends to be quite greasy. Thus, while the taste was good, I can't really conceive of a way to eat this without making a total mess of oneself. While that is not exactly a deal-breaker, I suppose, it certainly was a negative for me as actively avoiding dripping grease all over myself is not one of my favorite eating pastimes. As for the pulled-pork, I did not really like it, but I put that one on me. Let me explain. The pulled-pork tasted exactly like what you would expect pulled-pork sold in Tennessee to taste like, which, for me, was unexpected as I ordered it from a Venezuelan restaurant. While I expected it to be more like a carnitas type spice, it simply tasted like Tennessee barbeque. There is nothing inherently wrong with that, though, it was just unexpected and I don't particularly care for pork barbeque. Thus, while it was good for what it was, I just did not really care for it.
If I go back, I think I will try their vegetarian black bean arepa next as one of the people in my group got that and said it was very good. In the end, their arepas themselves were perhaps a little better than the Colombian restaurant's, but the fillings (at least the ones I ordered) were nowhere close to as good. That being said, they were still quite good and their salsas were also delicious. My suggestion, try both places and decide for yourself as both were tasty and it is kind of fun (at least I thought so) to try two takes on the same dish made in the same space by different people. Also, you should probably be going to the Farmer's Market more anyways!
