Barcelona’s Best Restaurants in the Gothic Quarter, El Born, and El Raval - Eater

"Barcelona only discovered brunch within the last decade. Now, a number of places are vying to be the top spot. Caravelle was one of the first and maintains its elite status because the Australian chef-owner, Zim Sutton, insists on making his own sauces, pickles, and beers. Tacos, smoked ribs, and burgers make an appearance from lunchtime onward." - Suzy Taher

Very tasteful interior, love the half open space, feels very inviting. People are very friendly, and the selection of beverages (their own beer and lemonades) is very unique. I enjoyed the food I had, even if it felt a bit more on the simple side taste-wise. Do recommend!

Google
A Must-Visit Brunch Spot in Barcelona! I had an incredible brunch experience at Caravelle! I tried two dishes, and both were packed with flavor and beautifully balanced. First, the Caravelle Rancheros— absolutely delicious! Every element on the plate worked perfectly together. The pickled onions were a standout — they’re house-made, and you can really taste the freshness and balance. I loved them so much I ordered extra. Combined with the beans, guacamole, and other toppings, it was just perfect. We also shared the smoked chicken burger, and wow — the flavors were amazing. Smoky, juicy, and full of depth. One of the best chicken burgers I’ve had in a long time. The service was just as impressive as the food — the waiters were so nice and helpful, making the whole experience even better. I’m already looking forward to coming back and trying more dishes. Highly recommended✨✨✨

Google
Wonderful breakfast spot! Come early to grab one of the rare tables. Careful: once you’ve tried it, you won’t want to go anywhere else. We ended up coming back every morning — the perfect start to our day.

Google
this is such a wonderful place the double cheeseburger American hamburger is so good you should definitely try it the taste combined with the pickles and the fries with some ketchup taste so amazing and their secret sauce that they have inside is just so good I highly recommend this place so much oh and also the drinks they give are so good! five stars would come here back again every single day if I could! sí

Had breakfast near La Rambla and wow—the Turkish-style eggs were seriously amazing. Coffee was super strong too, just how I like it. Staff was nice overall, though one guy at the bar seemed a little annoyed when I asked for the check (maybe just a European thing?). It was pretty busy, so I grabbed a seat at the bar. Still, definitely worth it!

Google
super nice, friendly and welcoming staff, the food is amazing - they have a great menu including an „all day breakfast“ section. I had baked eggs - the food looks amazing and is extraordinarily delicious! Would really recommend going there! 🤗

Google
Super delicious brunch! I love the eggs that I ordered the Huevos Rancheros (with their own spin) and it was super delicious. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and very accommodating.

Google
Easily the best breakfast I’ve had in Barcelona! The house cured bacon and eggs and the pulled pork was phenomenal. I wish there was one closer to home because I know I’ll be craving this when I leave. The atmosphere is great and the staff are amazing!! A must try!!

Yelp
Pretty chill place to grab some breakfast. I saw a wide variety of people from locals to tourists just chillin eating some breakfast or drinking some coffee. Some were doing work and others were just enjoying time with others. It's a nice escape from the bustle of the Ramblas Service was fairly quick and I receive my delight quickly, which was the pancakes. They were excellent. Not pictured was an iced latte. I hadn't ordered any iced coffees or lattes here in Spain, so I wanted to see it for myself before I leave Barcelona. Didn't disappoint! The prices aren't cheap, but the quality is just great!

Yelp
This was our first sit down breakfast place in Barcelona and decided on it based on the reviews and items available. Please remember and try to go earlier to avoid waiting for a table!! We got promptly seated around 10AM, and was able to secure the last available table. Opted for French toast and yogurt granola breakfasts. Too bad they don't make decaf coffee! The food was absolutely fresh, the combination of the ingredients was perfect. Never had tahini granola before, and the flavor along with yogurt, peach sauce and pumpkin seeds was perfect, light and memorable. The French toast was equally tasty and delicious. One large piece of toast bursting with flavors!! What an amazing an enjoyable feast. Please do remember to go early!!!

Yelp
We arrived in Barca at our BnB around 0945 and was informed by our driver that normal breakfast time in Barca about 0800-1100 so we headed straight out to fuel up for our first day in Barca. If there is a 'hole-in-the-wall' version in Barca this might be it. Just a nice small traditional breakfast with local flavs that will reset your taste buds for Spainish flare for your stay ahead. Great friendly service too. I had the pulled pork Benny and it was great.

Yelp
It was one of the best brunches I've ever had. Everything was really high quality. Unique flavors and dishes I've never had before. Cappuccino was fantastic!
google avatar

Abby S.

Yelp
When you wait more than 10 minutes to order and everyone else is already eating, you know it's a bad sign. This restaurant just had bad service. The food was not memorable and definitely not worth the wait of ordering. We also had our food before our drinks were ready. It's cute inside, but I just don't think I'd return since there are so many other places in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
Excellent brunch! Everything we tried was amazing. The drinks (cappuccino, cortado, iced latte, mocha) tasted as good as they looked. The same for the food (croffle, toast and eggs, smoked pulled pork bene, caravelle rancheros). Definitely try the hot sauce/salsa...VERY GOOD! Service was also top notch. English menus and English speaking server was very friendly. Go here!

P M.

Yelp
This place is a must try when you are in Barcelona! The best huevos rancheros I have ever had hands down! I am still craving them. We had to wait about 15 min to get seated but it was worth the wait. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere is beautiful. This place is on the top of my list of favorite places that we ate at during our vacation!
google avatar

Yelp
I live in Portland Oregon where brunch is taken very seriously so I have eaten many eggs Benedict breakfasts and I must say this is the best bene I have ever eaten in my life! The pork so tender, amazing sauce, perfectly poached eggs on fluffy brioche that soaked up all the sauce. I will dream about this breakfast until next time Our server was wearing overalls and was the only person serving the entire cafe which was full! She was friendly and quick and moved around the cafe effortlessly

Victor G.

Yelp
I went there with my family and loved it . Food was excellent and the service was very pleasant. I asked for the pulled pork sandwich and it was delicious.

Yelp
Cute Cafe in a nice neighborhood. The servers were friendly and extremely helpful to us. They made sure we were comfortable and always have everything we needed. This was the first restaurant my mother and I tried here in Barcelona and we couldn't have been happier. The food was tasty and well priced. Their coffee was delicious and the beer they served was even better! We honestly couldn't have been happier and would highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Series of Disappointments We really wanted to like this place, but they failed too many times. Our waitress (Lisa) was new, so we were prepared to accept a minor issue or two. We were able to order quickly, then the waiting began. After what seemed like too long, another waitress noticed and explained that there was a "technical issue." She assured us the food would be ready in seven minutes, and provided free drinks in the meantime. After more waiting, Lisa - remember Lisa? We had assumed she left the country after taking our order - saw we still didn't have our food, and she apologized. Shortly after that, Lisa brought food to our table. That was more than two hours after we placed the order! (Un)surprisingly, some of the food did not match our order. We shared this information with the other waitress - Lisa had gone missing again - and she said she would talk with the manager. Their solution: we could pay for "only" the part of the meal we ate and the drinks (which we were told were free when they were provided). So, the takeaway is that we didn't have to pay for the part of the order they got wrong AND there was no effort made to compensate for the fiasco. If the goal is to discourage repeat customers, then... Mission accomplished!

Yelp
Great atmosphere, small restaurant, street parking and they also have outdoor dining. Had chia with mango, pineapple and coconuts which was very good, Smoked pulled pork with poached eggs is what hubby had and he liked it. Will definitely come back. Oh you need to flag down the servers, or they will not cone to you to take your order.
google avatar

Yelp
Open at 930am Huervos Rancheros- really great flavors and the poached egg on top is extremely well made. Shot of Expresso- quite sour. Mocha latte- beautiful design. Nice flavor with no bitterness.

Yelp
There are a LOT of brunch joints in Barcelona and this was a standout for us. Excellent coffee. Welcoming staff. Delicious food and good music playing. We didn't feel rushed and enjoyed our meal very much.
google avatar

Jorge P.

Yelp
I highly recommend this restaurant-- the staff, the ambiance, and the food are amazing. The Rancheros Caravelle with Pulled pork is out of this world

Eve L.

Yelp
Amazing food, everything seems to be made from scratch. Really enjoyed our Mother's Day brunch here.

Ho Sung J.

Yelp
very nice local fusion food but price not cheaper than local others . anyhow . if you try that not any failed

Yelp
I've been here several times and been happy every time. Their chai with oat milk is tasty and the toast with tofu and avocado for vegans is a must.
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
Small cozy cafe that was right off La Rambla. There was plenty of seating when we came in around 10:30-11:00. The staff was great and helpful on what to suggest for brunch. We were recommended the Smoked Pulled Pork Benny and Shakshuka. Both were amazing, very filling and highly recommend trying. The hot sauce that they have is also excellent. We also got the latte and iced matcha. If you're sensitive to dairy, don't fret, they have dairy alternatives. Did not get to try their brews, but I guess that will have to wait whenever I go back to Barcelona.

Yelp
TLDR: a great breakfast! ___ I came in early in the morning for some breakfast and managed to snag a seat at the bar. Huevos rancheros - big hearty dish. Very tasty. Orange juice was amazing. I had a glass to boost my immune system and you could tell this was real deal OJ. Shashwa bowl - the garlic yogurt made it amazing. A delightful combo of flavors! Get this! Overall a great breakfast and worth a visit.

Yelp
Very cosy place with it's own character! Fresh made brakefast with different variations. I loved coffe... and the staff was friendly (it's rearly in Spain).

Miami W.

Yelp
Great spot for just about anything! If you are in a group there might be a wait but the food is worth it. If you are solo they do have bar seating. I had the Shakshuka, it tasted amazing and had great flavors (was so good forgot to take a picture beforehand) They also serve great coffees and have artesanal sodas and beer as well.
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
Meh, not terrible food but service was subpar. Took 15 minutes to get water after getting seated and multiple flags to our waitress until we got water and the check ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The food looked much better than it tasted which is a shame. Plating was nice but the food lacked flavor. This is surprising as everything else we had in Barcelona was amazing. Likely won't be back but glad I got to try it
google avatar

Amita J.

Yelp
Yum! Brunch! Healthy brunch options, I loved so much it was hard to decide! I ended up ordering the huevos rancheros which was very good and flavorful. While my friend had the falafel plate which was delicious! It's a cold dish with hot falafel. I would definitely come back here again! The service was fast, quick, and friendly! We were in and out within an hour during a busy rush!
google avatar

Yelp
A little hipster and very american, Caravelle is a excellent brunch place that lives up to the hype! Whether you're from NY, Boston or SF you'll appreciate the flavors and textures developed in their brunch dishes. We had the full spanglish and the eggs benny. Both were cooked on point and the prices are reasonable. It seems strange to travel so far for an american brunch but itll give any spot on america a run for it's money with excellent dishes. Bonus: their food and drinks are locally sourced and organic. Coffee is good also, not a big coffee drinker so i cant compare too well. Overall, a great brunch stop for american food. Will run you 10-15 euros

Danielle L.

Yelp
Super cute spot on the side streets of busy La Rambla. We ordered the vegetarian benedict and the rancheros. Both tasted great. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Service was perfect - one server for no less than 10 tables and was on it!

Aidan M.

Yelp
Great service, they were kind and very quick. Amazing food, had the best French toast Iv ever had in my life. Restaurant was overall very nice and would definitely eat here again. Highly recommend!

Gina S.

Yelp
Just go. Food was amazing! Service was good. Friendly ambiance. I'll head back again before my vacation ends!

Ruben H.

Yelp
Delicious brunch. Usually crowded. Friendly service. Worthwhile a visit if traveling through Barcelona.

Alicia D.

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE SO MUCH. The food is amazing, the drinks are scrumptious, and the staff is so kind and welcoming. Just moved to this neighborhood a few months ago and we love it so much that we literally visit once a week. I highly recommend the Shakshuka, pulled pork Benny, a mocha or gingerbread chai latte, and their cheesecake dessert! Their house made drinks are yummy too! Their beers are good and their ginger beer or pink lemonade sodas are awesome! No matter what you get here, you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Vanessa L.

Yelp
Came back to Barcelona after visiting Madrid and came here for brunch! I ordered the French toast and my aunt ordered the pulled pork Benny. Tbh I was not excepting much from the French toast but wow was it really good. Everything on top made it even better. My aunts pulled pork was really tasty. I don't remember what everyone else ordered but we all enjoyed our meals. My aunts bf who is really picky also approved of his dish. Winner winner! I definitely recommend this place for brunch!
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
Great cool brunch place in Barcelona near Las Ramblas. We got there before 10am which was key because the line started just about 10 minutes after we sat down. Great coffee drinks and a fun vibe. The menu is something similar to what you might find at a brunch place in the U.S. but a little funkier. The shakshuka was very good and the huevos rancheros were decent but a smaller portion that everything else. The poached eggs on the menu is actually avocado toast and I wish I had realized that when ordering because it looked the best!
google avatar

Babsie C.

Yelp
Yum!! Had the croissant french toast and double bacon cheeseburger shared both with a friend and it was delicious!!! Croissant french toast was perfect not too sweet.. had a cereal crust... yummy whip, sauce, and fruit! ate it mid day and want to go back for more! Double bacon cheeseburger w/ fries - also delicious!! fries had a different seasoning and it just went perfectly together! Meat and bacon was so tasty! Very satisfying meal! Visiting Barcelona our first meal and highly recommend!!! Service was good! Prices are fair! Food is delicious!!
google avatar

Trevor B.

Yelp
Friendly staff, the food was packed with flavor and I'd definitely come back to try more of the items. I got the eggs Benedict. The brioche bread was delicious and cooked perfectly, they seasoned the eggs so well and the avocado portion was great. My friend got the breakfast bol. He said "also dank"
google avatar

Eddie J.

Yelp
Great place for breakfast in the Raval area of Barcelona. We visited the cafe three times during our weeklong stay. The staff is friendly, and menu items are great. Recommendations: If you want a big breakfast, order the Full Spanglish, comes with eggs, bacon, sausage, and avocados all over toast. The Huevos Rancheros are also awesome, as well as the Smashed Avocados over toast. The banana bread is excellent, and for something lighter, the Yogurt with granola is a tasty choice. During the week, try to get a table at 10am and on weekends at 11am. The line to get in starts to form outside, but is still worth the wait.
google avatar

Yelp
After a wonderful trip with my sister to Barcelona, we absolutely had to get one last amazing meal before leaving. Caravelle was the lucky winner... but we ended up being the winners. We were seated within 10 minutes and it was prime brunch time. I noticed the crowd was a mix of tourists and locals, which was nice! Right off the bat, the staff was so friendly and very efficient. We started off with a cortado and a chai latte. (Since I was a little hungover, I also got an apple juice 'cause it makes me happy and not sad.) Both drinks were made very well and the coffee was strong - just the kick I needed that morning. For food, the small menu and delicious selections made it a bit difficult to choose! We finally ordered the full Spanglish, with two poached eggs and the rancheros. Both were an absolute treat. Full Spanglish - this is the way to go if you have a voracious appetite. It's protein packed and salty, thrown (rather than assembled) onto a plate. But the best part? Those roasted tomatoes and miso mushrooms turned out to be the element that brought the whole dish together. chorizo & potato rancheros - poached eggs over tostadas! Very refreshing with the pico salsa and light crema, and a nice portion. Also, it just looks pretty. It was a great meal, and I felt satisfied knowing I had to leave for the airport to head home. Caravelle is such a lovely brunch spot with cute, welcoming decor. Come early to avoid the wait!
google avatar

Gaby G.

Yelp
Great place for breakfast, the staff is very friendly, the food' presentation and flavors are great, and the coffee was on point. It's a great option to start the day - they open at 9:30am The portions are perfect for a person and the price is moderate to high.
google avatar

Ben B.

Yelp
I'm normally not a big brunch guy, but my fiancee loves the stuff. She rolled her eyes with delight at her guyere baked eggs (with leeks, cream, lemon zest, spinach and toast - 8.50 €). I had the french toast (9.50 €). It was fine, but I've had french toast before. We also sampled the coconut bread (4.50 €) and it was pretty good. Our server was very nice. She spoke with an English accent, which I didn't expect in Spain. The venue itself is typical brunch chic. Pastel colors, reclaimed wood, chalkboards, that kind of thing. They do have wi-fi, so it's a comfortable place to crash if you want to get away from Las Ramblas for a while. I wish we could have come back for lunch or dinner since I read great things about their tacos and burgers.
google avatar

Cynthia J.

Yelp
Come here for great food, wonderful staff and hipster vibes!! I love that the vibe here is so casual, the food is beyond genius, and the ambiance is so nice. The wait staff here speak Spanish (Catalan) and English. They are amazing! If you need them they are there but they will not hover. They are so sweet and accommodating. Whatever they suggest is a good choice! The menu is so fun and the food and drinks are fresh, made to order goodness. Yum! My sister and I started with pineapple margaritas, a dirty caesar salad with croutons, chicken skin cracklings, and chicken fat dressing, eggplant and hummus dish, and a cool creamy burrata dish with celery and dill viniagrette on a lovely hot brioche toast. That burrata dish, by the way, was absolutely smart and delicious. Warm brioche toast with a cool creamy burrata topped with fresh herb viniagrette and crunchy celery! So amazing!!! The acid level was perfect! I would have been so satisfied with just that! It was genius to me! We also got the smoked ribs which we thought was going to be a few ribs but ended up being a lot of food that we left for our host at the air BNB we were staying at. I loved my dining experience here! It was amazing!
google avatar

Jeremy P.

Yelp
Yooo this place is amazing. Gooooo just goooo! The energy is intimate makes you feel like it's a secret. Service is good and friendly. Open to English speaking people but really just a foodies dream when it comes to breakfast and brunch. Amazing quality food without the hype. It's crazy how that happens.

P S.

Yelp
This is a very packed brunch area near the famous La Rambla street. Lots of foot traffic inside the restaurant which means you end up scooting up your chair into the table a lot to try to avoid getting hit in the head by passing tourists. The food is very flavorful and rich in spices. I got the Rancheros and absolutely loved it. If I had to change one thing it would be the portions. I would have liked something on the side with these rancheros or maybe an offering of a free OJ or equivalent. All in all, this was a great brunch place to make a pit stop at during our walk down La Rambla towards the sea.
google avatar

Eric T.

Yelp
Meh, I was stoked to find a table when passing by...too bad. Server spoke great English. Cool vibe, nice setting, well thought out. Must have been a bad kitchen and life day for them I guess. Ginger beer was odd and generically syrupy. Burger with fries, burger nearly raw, but the fries are to die for. "The full Spanglish" Breakfast was less stellar. Eggs were ordered over easy, delivered to me well beyond fried and inedible. Bacon meh. Sausage is really good, tomatoes tasty. Had a big old smooshed fly on my knife which I noticed closer to the end of my meal, won't let it affect my review :p Made my issues known, left just paying for the burger.
google avatar

Mohammed A R.

Yelp
God, they make the best F'ing breakfast in town. So fresh and made to order. They offer a great sourdough toast with their poached eggs and spinach dish. My wife and I, during our honeymoon, had breakfast here 5 out of the 7 days. All their food seems fresh as they tend to run out of stuff for dinner (due to the dishes' popularity in the 'hood). Go there. You won't be disappointed. Bring extra water!!!!
google avatar

Chloe H.

Yelp
Another delicious and Americanized brunch spot in Barcelona! Caravelle is definitely a popular place so expect to wait for a little if you come around mid-morning. The service here was wonderful and they really try their best to keep things moving quickly, even when it's busy. I had a dirty chai latte with oat milk and it was one of the best coffee drinks I had while in Spain. For my meal, I had the huevos rancheros and it was incredible. It was different from the usual huevos rancheros in that the egg was poached and it had a refreshing corn pico de gallo type topping. My family and I all enjoyed our unique and tasty dishes. Give this place a try for breakfast! You won't regret it.
google avatar

Kent C.

Yelp
Have the Caravelle Eggs Benedict. Its amazing. I've had the Huevos Rancheros here too, and while it's very good, the Benedict beats it hands down. Instead of English muffin they use French toast topped with pulled pork topped with hollandaise and eggs poached just right.
google avatar

Alnadi P.

Yelp
Brunch here was amazing to say the least. Small quaint spot in Barca. I had the Benedict and the smokey hollandaise was very tasty! Service was fast and good as well.
google avatar

Blake B.

Yelp
We came into this location twice during our stay in Barcelona the first visit was just okay but our second visit blew our minds this place makes an amazing breakfast. The first time we can into the restaurant we got the avocado toast which was good but not nearly as incredible as our second visit which we ordered the huevos rancheros with a dirty chai! One of the best dirty chais I've ever had and that was both times! The staff here is extremely friendly and man do they work hard. Restaurant was poppin both times we came in and they are running on a 3 man crew! 2 servers and a coffee guru! Me and my girlfriend found ourselves just watching them work when we were eating because of how fast they were doing everything it was pretty entertaining! Anyways this place is a must go to if your staying in Barcelona! Be sure to check it out!
google avatar

Sonia A.

Yelp
Cozy hipster spot serving brunch and more. Came here for breakfast ordered chia pudding with house made jam and peanut butter and dirty chai latte..food was flavourful and devine. Dirty Chai Latte with Oatmilk was one of the best I have had..its the cinnamon that gives it the dirty effect. The staff here has British accent so am assuming this joint is a lovechild of expats. Music in the back ground is electic, great spot to visit!
google avatar

Derek Y.

Yelp
Caravelle. Is. Legit. Come here if you're in Barcelona and looking for a super filling and delicious breakfast! I don't usually do healthy spots but this is place met a good compromise of healthy and tasty (ie, fatty). My recommendation echoes what other reviewers have said: try the full Spanglish (11.5€). It's really absurd what you get for 11.5€... a fully instagrammable-plate of beautiful eggs on sourdough, a perfectly roasted tomato, mushrooms whose sauce is practically to die for, and sausage and bacon that's sure to satisfy your salty American palate. Aside from the fact that the dish is probably very fatty and kind of clogs your arteries in a way your doctor would disapprove of, you'll definitely enjoy every bite and leave full after this dish. Completely worth it!
