Cardullo’s Is Open in Boston’s Seaport District | Eater Boston

"First opened at 5 Brattle St. in 1950, Cardullo’s in Harvard Square has spent nearly seven decades selling wine and beer, cheese, chocolate, tea, and assorted other retail goods, and its deli counter has long been a popular lunch option in the neighborhood; some of the new sandwich options from the Seaport outpost, such as the chicken pesto, will appear at the original location as well." - Dana Hatic

Google
Great selection of items. Perfect for Harvard students for when they need to go grab a quick and healthy snack. They also have wines, cold cuts, chocolates, cold drinks, some groceries, teas and sweets, etc. I found it to be a little overpriced.

Jordan D.

Google
Do not go here, portions are an absolute rip off. Got the meatball sub and no lie they sliced up 2 meatballs into 6 pieces for a 15 dollar sandwich. Absolutely would never recommend this place. Waste of money for sure.

Samantha D.

Google
Loved this store and sandwich counter! A large variety of items - great place to grab food for a picnic or outdoor outing. Excellent selection of gourmet desserts and candies. Specialty teas and wines there as well. A handful of vegetarian options for sandwiches. Staff were very friendly and completed our order pretty quickly. A few tables are outside for seating.

Google
Gourmet Italian family shop with sandwich table, wines, European snacks, and many other peculiar goods. Located at the heart of Harvard Square, very convenient and easy to locate. The store has many variety of wines, beers, and snacks. Most of snack brands are exotic and not easily found in supermarkets. Cool experience. We bought a chicken Parmesan sandwich and a roast beef reuben sandwich, very well made, the chicken and beef meat were extremely tender. Definitely recommended!

Amy R.

Google
Stopped in to escape a rain storm, and were delighted we did. Loved their Italian sandwich and cookies.

Martin S

Google
Came in for a lunchtime sandwich and was not disappointed. Bread was fresh, as was all the ingredients, and the sandwiches were quickly made to order. We can definitely recommend the chicken pesto sandwich or the avocado SLT.

sarah D.

Google
I don’t recommend. Their chicken ceasar is the most basic wrap I’ve ever had. My cousin ordered a ham and Brie baguette and they forgot the Brie 😒 won’t go back.

Aaron R.

Google
Went here nearly everyday this summer whilst working in Harvard Sq. Phenomenal sandwiches and super nice staff. Shoutout to Julian and Sebastian, give them a raise for making some bomb sandwiches!!

Yelp
I always stop into Cardullo's whenever I'm in Cambridge. For a foodie like me it's a joy with candy, teas, chocolates and wines from all over the world. It's not a big store, but it has a really big selection. Need some marzipan from Lubeck? Need some champagne from France? Need a sandwich with some blue cheese from Denmark? They got you! Cardullo 's is a great place to pick up gourmet treats for gifts for anyone especially yourself.
google avatar

Yelp
Cardullo's!! It's what I'd expect a northeastern sandwich shop to be like. It has everything you need from random goods, alc, rare candies, to a whole deli sandwich section with some greatly made stacks. Food? There's quite a variety - but on SANDWICHES alone - 8.4/10 Service? pretty quick / pretty much self service besides the sandwich making. Ambiance? It's a really aesthetically pleasing spot; however, not much room to eat.

Yelp
Really great little shop. Interesting specialty foods from wine, potato chips, candy and cookies, olive oil, canned goods and frozen foods they have it all. Their sandwiches are also great. Bread is top notch and you can tell the meat, cheese and vegetables are high quality. Nice staff too. Definitely visit if you can!

Yelp
A beautiful spring day walking around the new generic Harvard Square, I was hungry and wanted a quick meal but without loud music and the corporate touch menu . Why not have a bite at this storied local deli? It wasn't crowded at all ( and now I know why). Although the staff was busy flirting with each other, they were forced to make eye contact with me whereas I was directed to the deli counter where I also had to make an effort to get the clerk's attention. I ordered a Turkey Sandwich, I think it was about $13 with a soft drink. I sat outside hoping to enjoy it. I was disavowed of that shortly because the bread was stale and the slice of turkey razor thin (as well as tasteless, there must have been an Oscar Meyer sale at Walmart), but in all fairness, generous with the lettuce. Any reputation they once had is a relic of a bygone era perhaps of the 70's. Don't go here if you're hungry

Yelp
Just went here this morning since it was close to my hotel. OMG this place is amazing ! They have international candy and food and I bought a lot of candies from Europe. The store was open at 9:00 am and I got there a little before 9:00. The staff was friendly and helpful. When I come back to Cambridge I will definitely visit them again !
google avatar

Yelp
A Harvard Square landmark! Food, wine, sandwiches, goodies. Don't shop there hungry or on payday! But do go
google avatar

Yelp
This is a fun shop with various imported and local goods! From the outside I always thought they were just a shop until I saw people eating sandwiches in their outdoor tables one day. We decided to try some of their cold sandwiches on a very hot day. We got the Italian ($14.99) and pera insulata & prosciutto ($13.99). The sandwiches are not cheap but they are quite hefty. Two of us shared both sandwiches and were extremely stuffed afterwards. The bread they use is chewy, flavorful, and holds onto the sauces very well. Both sandwiches had a good portion of both meat and cheese. The fillings were kind of slippery though, so these are definitely sandwiches you want to eat while sitting down.
google avatar

Christiane M.

Yelp
got the caprese sandwich and it was good! baguette was super yum and i appreciated that they had multiple vegetarian options
google avatar

Andres A.

Yelp
A really neat shoppe where we essentially stopped to pick up some dessert on the run. We picked up some macaroons and chocolate. The variety of chocolate was plentiful. They also had plenty of other items to buy as well.

Janice A.

Yelp
I ordered from Grubhub a Italian sub. The meat quality was good but not the bread. It was hard and hard to chew. Please give customers fresh bread on a baguette.

Stephen S.

Yelp
It was ok ! I think the sandwiches are really good but like everything else these days very expensive

Yelp
A real gem in Harvard Square. This is a gourmet grocery store filled with delectable imported treats and a deli counter for sandwiches/salads. The grocery store section has wines/beers, chocolates, sweets, olives, crackers, tinned fish, sauces, tea, coffee and more. I've only ever tried the Italian sandwich but was instantly impressed at how good it was (rivaling Monica's Mercato, my usual go-to spot for an Italian sub). The meats were well portioned and tasty, the veggies were crisp, and most importantly, the bread was amazing. Will definitely be back to explore more of their selection and try more sandwiches; it's the kind of shop you can definitely have fun getting a little lost in :)

Yelp
3/17/20 Saw this store upon parking in the Harvard square center and my curiosity got to the best of me and I came strolling inside. This is a very unique store / deli shop. I bought some truffle spread and unique candy. The store is much to be desired with interesting teas, jams, honey, spreads, amongst so many various goodies. The staff there is very friendly and the store is clean and has a lot of unique things to find. The food options seem to be great and decently priced. Although, I didn't order any food, they were busy fulfilling orders while I was shopping.
google avatar

Cheryl S.

Yelp
paid for $15 sandwich in which the weight of the tomatoes out weighed the meat and the cashier had a tip jar no joke. Should of left as soon as the deli guy didn't know what ham was and said he was making my sandwich when in fact he handed me a premade sandwich that was soggy after sitting in balsamic
google avatar

Andres D.

Yelp
Great little shop for European imports. They have a huge selection of sweets and wine and other cool specialty items. The location is great, right in the heart of Harvard square. Staff is either endearingly grumpy deli guys or really sweet. The deli is a undercooked gem of the square--the sandwiches are excellent and very reasonably priced. Probably my favorite spot for a quick lunch. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Jeremy K.

Yelp
still around, still average! took a trip to Cambridge and glad to see they're still kicking although the inside seems restructured since my last visit many moons ago, the sundry layout/wine cooler on one side, deli on the other. the internet really takes the mystery of finding rare candies, but they did have a discounted holiday section, so not a total waste. smell the nostalgia
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
My cousin introduced me to Cardullo's and I was hooked ever since. Whether it's sitting at their sidewalk table or take outs, their sandwiches are unbeatable. Their Italian sandwich is my favorite. I cannot figure out why something so simple tastes so good. This is a must visit when in Harvard Square.
google avatar

Kirtana S.

Yelp
Such a wonderful find! I always leave with awesome goodies here and great wine. The sandwiches are also unbelievable!

The D.

Yelp
This is a review of their $20 lobster roll. So what can one expect for $20? It turns out not much. It was really quite poor. The roll had lobster bits but it was mostly lobster salad. The spicing was so heavy handed that it tasted more like spam - salty and peppery. And the roll was stiff, bordering on stale. Seems like sandwich was obviously concocted for tourists. So sad.
google avatar

Sydney P.

Yelp
Specifically walked here for some gourmet olive oil and balsamic for my daughters birthday. She is the salad queen. Left with two bags brimming with holiday treats that should remind her of her childhood holidays in France/England. Chocolate Oranges, English Crackers BOOM! Drooling because their du smells amazing if!
google avatar

Vincent Y.

Yelp
Hearty harvard is a really good sandwich here. The roast beef and coleslaw combination tastes immaculate. Only $10 per sandwich and they are quick and have a shop inside where you can purchase other items. Just wish they had more seating since currently they only have a few outdoor tables.
google avatar

Alexandra R.

Yelp
The BBQ chicken wrap was great! The menu had a lot of great options- a little pricy but worth it! Tons of yummy desserts, hot sauces, wines and other foods. Definitely a great lunch spot!
google avatar

Richa T.

Yelp
Great spot for gourmet shopping Pros: + Great for gifts + Quick sandwiches too if you're hungry + Convenient location - a hop, skip and a jump away from the T in Harvard square + Great collection of chocolates and wine + Great International selection Cons: - A little small/cramped - Pricey - but definitely worth the quality you're getting
google avatar

Tanya S.

Yelp
Fantastic shop. Really quality tea that is hard to find elsewhere - harney and sons, kusmi, local brands. Even their blend teas. Rare candy, alcohol, and treats. Lots of local treasures too. Generally friendly service.
google avatar

Alex B.

Yelp
Okay so I walked in here and it seemed as though I jumped into a pool of truffles and other gourmet treats. Here is a short list... Mushroom truffle pate truffle oil truffle cream truffle salt truffle butter truffle cheese truffle tartufata I have already stocked up on my truffle supply but next time I need some specialty specialty ingredients I will definitely be stopping back in (I need to make some money first). Prices are high but it seems like it has a lot to offer overall. I don't know if I am willing to shell out over $10 for a sandwich though.
google avatar

Shabnam A.

Yelp
Simply the most delicious and fresh sandwiches ever! The bread they use for the subs is beyond this world!
google avatar

Jean M.

Yelp
Love love love it here! Wanted a sandwich but a real good one so I came here. Never disappointed! The cookies are yummy as well! Right in the heart of Harvard square. I will be back in a couple weeks.
google avatar

Bailee P.

Yelp
Cool little shop in Harvard square. They have a wide range of items for sale. I could look through everything for hours. I ended up buying some hot sauce here. It's a little expensive because it's a specialty store but that is expected.
google avatar

Tatiana G.

Yelp
I miss the sandwiches. Haven't been in several years and was happy to find a picture of their sandwich menu. This place is great. Nothing is finer than a Cardullo's sandwich a glass of wine and a seat over the Charles.
google avatar

Yelp
Cardullo's Gourmet Shoppe is Harvard Square's oldest delicatessen. It first opened its doors at 6 Brattle Street in 1950, specializing in freshly prepared foods & gourmet delicacies from around the world. Shelf after Shelf of perfectly organized extensive selections of coffees, teas, beer, wines, champagnes, liquor, chocolates, cheeses, hard-to-find food items, & specialty gift baskets. International Students can conveniently buy tastes of home. The elaborate descriptions were enticing to the point that I bought quite a few unique gifts & shipped them home. The Cardullo family sold the business in 2015 to Richard & Kim Wilson. The Shoppe carries 3,000 items from around the globe, as many as 5,000 during holiday seasons.

Yelp
So myself and 9 other customers bought tickets for a chocolate tour and this was one of the stops, presumably to promote business. While we were learning about the history of the shop and some chocolate, the owner/manager told an employee that "she'd handle it" and asked our group to move along because "it was Christmas time." She overheard us being a little taken aback by her confrontation and said she "didn't mean to be rude but two customers just walked out the door." Well, ten who were very interested in purchasing a lot of overpriced chocolate walked out because yes, she was rude. Big mistake-huge!
google avatar

Jim B.

Yelp
This is an old fashion gourmet food shop in Cambridge. We don't have anything like it in New Hampshire. My wife always enjoys shopping here due to the selection. The store is small and can get very busy at times. There are seats and tables outside if you don't want to fight the crowds.
google avatar

Dena B.

Yelp
This review is actually for their website, which is very well curated. I've loved stopping into the Cambridge location for years and have not ventured to the Seaport location. With the current Covid-19 Pandemic I'm not sure when I will be able to visit the store fronts -- but I went online they have a nice selection and ordered some preserves and jams--one hard to find black currant & strawberry for my mum. They also have vinegar/olive oil, pasta, chocolate, and other condiments/to stock pantry and also gift pkg/basket options. Ordering was easy/I picked the ground shipping option but arrived very fast/nicely wrapped. #shoplocal

Cindy P.

Yelp
We stopped here for a quick lunch. Yum! My husband and I split the Italian sandwich. Yes, it was large enough for two people to share. It might have been one of the best sandwiches I've eaten. A definite must!

Arjan A.

Yelp
Went here for the sandwiches. I got the Reuben which was pretty dry and the bread was a bit stale. Would not eat here again. Service was great though!
google avatar

Nicholas C.

Yelp
I like them, but a lady at the register called me "sir" in a condescending way when one of my cards didn't work.
google avatar

Danielle D.

Yelp
Italian specialty shop write in Harvard Square. Ordering the sandwiches seemed a bit overwhelming. Because there was a list of specialty sandwiches on aboard high up near the ceiling. And then after I ordered I noticed there were other sandwiches listed above the deli counter. I got an Italian and a roast beef sandwich for my friend. Both were really good. Also got a bag of truffle chips. And those were also really great. However they were quite pricey at $7 for a bag of chips. Not sure I would get them again.

Stacia S.

Yelp
Best subs on fresh baguette..not anymore. Used to be. Not as of late. Over priced subs that fall short from what longtime shoppers expect and are used to. Shame on them. You would think they'd be a great place to get food from given their location but nope!! Cardullos fell off. Not the same. Probably new owners is the reason why.

Yelp
I'm so excited to write a review for Cardullo's Gourmet Shoppe! I visited here during a business trip to Boston and decided to go inside to buy some snacks. Boy, was I super impressed with this place! This place carried a nice assortment of worldly candies, chocolates, jellies, jams, salts, marinades, and just about anything that your craving (sweet, salty, or savory) could desire. There were neat chocolates such as hot chili pepper, lavendar, nougat, dried rose, sea salt chocolates. There were candy bars such as Violet Crunch, Cadbury, Violets, honey bars, taffys, etc etc etc. There are tons of marinades, wines, canned fruit, a fresh sandwich / deli bar, cheeses, sodas & drinks, pastas, preserved meats, veggies, etc at this place. It's a one stop shop! I had a good laugh when walking into the store. The cashier greeted me with a huge smile and said, "Welcome to Cardullo's". I told him how excited I was to have found the store. He then said, "You can find just about anything that you desire here!". I replied, "Cocaine, Marijuana, and Sex?" He chuckled and said, "I wish...". It goes to show how much energy and smiles come out of this place! The smile he put on my face lasted the entire day! Bravo! Recommended: Lavender Chocolate; Honey Chocolate; Chocolate with Sea Salt; Violet Crumble candy bar!

Yelp
Good, if you're European and miss a key staple that you can't find in the "Flavors of the World" section at Star Market. Or if you're a foodie trying to find the right ingredients for your european recipe - vanilla sugar, treacle, marmite, curry ketchup, etc.... Otherwise, just have fun browsing the aisles to see what Europeans eat or buy something to pretend that you traveled there and brought something back. They do have a kick ass selection of European chocolates (UK Cadbury's, Belgian Neuhaus, German Reber, Kinder etc..) , but buyer beware, it's 3 times the cost and not as fresh if you bought it in Europe!
google avatar

Bambiandfriends M.

Yelp
One word: OVERPRICED. The only reason this store can get away with it is because of its location and lack of competitors in the area. I admit, I do shop there, but that's only because it's the only place where I can buy a wider selection of imported candies and chocolates locally. I also go to Trader Joe's but it' requires driving and it's not as convenient to get there if you don't have a car. I bet if there was a Cost Plus here, Cardullos wouldn't be doing as well as they are right now (charging $7-9 for a bar of chocolate!).

C.A S.

Yelp
Moved my daughter to Cambridge. Was hungry for a great Italian sandwich like North End style! Ordered a classic turkey - stale bread, like 2 tiny pieces of turkey! Best part was the Dijon mustard - pretty lame
google avatar

AUDRA M.

Yelp
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the Pig Newton. Parisian ham, French Brie, Dijon mustard and fig spread...toasted. Om nom nom. So nice that I ate there twice during my visit. The shop also has an amazing cheese & wine selection. Grab something to go and sit outside, but must say the street is quite busy. Or, walk Harvard yard and enjoy your grub.
google avatar

MaiLinh H.

Yelp
I love this little gem in harvard square!!! If you love chocolate, tea, candy, or any sweet snacks from europe that are hard to find elsewhere, this place will most likely have it. I studied abroad in denmark a few years ago and got addicted to this liquorice gummy candies that are no where to be found in the states. I stumbled across it here in this store, at the heart of Harvard Square!!! They have nice selection of tea and hot chocolate with really modern cute designs - perfect for christmas gifts if you ask me.
google avatar

Yelp
This little market is awesome ! The sandwiches are old school and awesome ! The people behind the deli were great! The fact they recognized I was from Oklahoma and engaged to make sure my experience was one To remember instilled my believe in simple courtesy of the human spirit! I ordered Italian sub and ate only half of it on small table outside the market. It was fresh and incredible! What made it more than a sandwich was the fact the people who made it interacted verbally and made it an experience! I think I paid $10 for the Italian sub and could only eat half of it! What's even better is the other items you can purchase . I purchased different chocolates and candies that my kids loved! I wished I would have purchased different olive oils and basalmics that I could have had shipped to Oklahoma . I go to Boston every year and I look forward to go back here out of any other place in Boston
google avatar

Jeremy K.

Yelp
Being from Europe and having heard of this place..all the constant hype (I work in Harvard square, that may be why), I had to check this place out... And was highly disappointed. Walking in, there are two things I noticed. One, it is cramped as hell in there. You can barely walk through their damn aisles! Seriously! I know that I'm a big guy but not that big. Secondly, the prices. My wallet will suffer greatly and will be almost unnecessary after I make a purchase; there goes my tuition fund. The selection I must say is very eclectic. They have a bit of everything. A lot is imported but the prices are just ridiculous. Something that you easily find everywhere in France, Germany or Italy for under a buck there is priced at $3-4... I know that importing isn't cheap but come on man... I ordered a sandwich and was shocked to see that the guys behind the counter making them weren't using any gloves at all when handling both the meats, the cheeses and the overall sandwich. I didn't say anything though because I was in a hurry and it already took them 10 minutes just to grab and cut the bread - both were too busy chattering with one another to focus on the task at hands. I understand that the owner is trying to bring quality to us in the shop - superior products but the price is just out of control. You could just as easily order that stuff online for half the price, even with shipping and handling charges or head over to other specialized shops that won't be so outrageously expensive. It almost seems to me that they are using their high prices to justify and serve their ego. And their rent in the square. So unless your making a small purchase or trying to find an original present for that special someone, I wouldn't go there for weekly purchases. Most of the stuff they have can be found in other stores if you look around carefully enough. Otherwise I'd stay away... Especially considering the reputation of the owner who is known to do sketchy things with the inventory.

Yelp
The deli guy sold me ranch dressing in a hummus-tub size container for $1, perfect for what I needed. Only place in Harvard Square you can get it! Also bought a crock of French imported Reine Dijon mustard on sale for $10. It rivals the Edmund Fallot & Maille I bought in Paris. Wonderful shop.
google avatar

M J.

Yelp
Gotta love a store that's 1/4 wine and 1/4 chocolate. The owner was on site and very informative - which resulted in us buying more of the fancy, delicious looking sweets. Found the Lars pearl sugar I need for Belgian waffles - had only see this in the past at IKEA. No joke. Chocolate selection was amazing - but was not able to find one of my faves, NewTree. Gift selection is great at this time of year - snagged a pretty, ribboned tin of Italian pistachio biscotti. Will definitely return for a sandwich, wine, etc.
google avatar

Meredith A.

Yelp
I have to stop in this store anytime I am in Harvard Square. They just have so many yummy, special products! Lot's of the things they sell are hard to find outside of Europe. My fave is the real Italian Nutella. It really is different than the version you can buy in grocery stores, and it is wonderful !
