"Carelshaven has been providing comfortable overnight accommodation since 1772, in a stunning location near Twickel Castle. Here, the chef prepares fine French cuisine using produce from his own vegetable garden, giving classic flavours a fresh twist without the need for excessive flourish." - Michelin Inspector

I usually travel a lots and I have seen lots of hotels in all over the world but I have not seen the worst place like this hotel. They gave us a room like a cold room. The heating wasn’t working. We came back to the hotel after 11 there was no one at the reception so we sleep in a cold and we all had a really bad flu but when we complain to them apparently they say they can’t do nothing about it And on the day we’re going to leave we ask them for 10 minutes extra to prepare our luggage so then we can leave because we was not feeling good at all and they turned around and said they can’t give us even one minute. We had to move out By 11 A minute extra will be extra charge. By the way, we did stay there for over tonight and we paid them €200 I would never recommend this worst place and the worst customer service. One more thing they said there’s a double room, but they got two single beds and two single duvet in the room. With everything is the worst place I ever seen.

Delightful lunch. Worthy to get its Michelin star back! Unexpected taste combinations...from delicate to explosion. Top, thank you for this experience. Impeccable and friendly service

Bad service, low quality food and ameneties. They are all up of themselves and have no regard for the guests. It looks as one should be happy that they are allowed entry here. A smile means a lot. There are plenty alternatives who appreciate their guests and provide them with the service they deserve. Not recommended at all, look for better options.

Excellent service, very kind staff. Food at the restaurant was amazing and the hotel itself is beautiful. Great location and very stylish inside.||I accidentally left some clothes in my room before flying back to the UK and they posted them back on the same day.

Booked two rooms for my in-laws and an aunt. Let's start with the negative. The staff were very rude to my family at reception, treating them as if they were trying not to pay for their rooms somehow. This was again the case the following morning when they asked to be seated for breakfast. My family's impression was that the hotel was having money difficulties and needed their money NOW. Not a pleasant atmosphere. One of the rooms had a horrible stink. It smelled like a dead fish was in the closet. I would have asked for another room, but my in-laws suffered through it. On the positive side, the hotel was very charming, in a good location and the breakfast was excellent. If you don't mind dealing with a rude staff and a possibly stinky room, then by all means book your stay here.

We staid here overnight and for dinner. Reception was friendly and hospital. Found the rooms (at least in the extended building on the back) not very impressive. Bit outdated, lacking atmosphere, aged bathroom, yet comfortable enough for a great night of sleep. The food was quite good. Interesting combinations, high quality ingredients, knowledgeable staff and excellent wine pairings. Good prices as well. Local cheeses where a nice touch. Shame was that the non-meat menu my girlfriend had, contained fish for each dish. Would have appreciated seeing a vegetable take the centerpiece of one the courses. Breakfast was OK but nothing fancy, service could have been a bit better (we had to go find someone to refill the water in the coffee machine, milk in the machine tasted as if it was gone bad). Overall Carelshaven is definitely worth a visit, however still some room to grow to five stars!

Shockingly poor experience in the restaurant. As main course raw cold food served and then told that the cook would warm if up if I wished. I decided this was unnecessary as this the meat in question was liver. Then ordered a cheese platter, the epoisse cheese was extremely dry, the liver was actually more fluid than the epoisse. I was then confronted with the bill with the full price for the raw fluid like liver and told it was my fault as I should not have requested the meat to be cooked meduim. An utterly disgraceful show from this restaurant I will certainly not ever return to this place.

Yelp
Carelshaven has been there as long as I can remember. However since 5 years it changed ownership and the new management have been renovating both the hotel and restaurant. There is also a new chef in town, and we've been hearing great reviews. So time to check it out. Ambience is great, traditional (in line with history of the place) with a modern touch and tables are placed such that there is enough privacy and intimacy. We choose the specialty menu (you can choose up to 8 courses), and we were not disappointed. I will name two highlights: ox tale with coquilles, a surprising combination. Also the chocolate with beet root desert was delightful! Pretty sure if they keep this up they will be recognized with some awards pretty soon.
