A Casual New Takeaway Restaurant Opens Inside One of LA’s Busiest Parks - Eater LA

"The menu is ideal park fare, including options like burgers, a pulled pork sandwich, or a fried chicken sandwich, plus hot dogs, loaded fries, salads, and more. The restaurant will also serve beer and wine soon, plus milkshakes for those warm summer afternoons. Cargo Snack Shack is open now, keeping daily daytime hours." - Farley Elliott

Great place to eat full of good vibes great music the place to be with a date or friends even both! Highly recommend it. Staff and food is on point. Will do it again…

Google
Excellent food with great vibes, connected to LA State Historic Park. Prices are reasonable, and I ordered the classic Cargo burger (American cheese, lettuce tomato onions pickles cargo sauce, $12) and the PB shake ($8). The burger came with ample house made potato chips. As a fan of peanut butter, I knew I couldn’t go wrong with that dessert! Enjoyed the ambiance and would likely go back again.

Google
Worst experience of my life. I came here on 3/23/25 around 3pm and it was awful. I waited so long for just 1 iced coffee. I waited at the window so long and then went back to the front window just to ask them why is it taking so long? They were very very rude. No customer service. They are not nice people working in there. There was also a girl working in front and eating cheese fries while fixing others orders. Why is she eating in the front where orders are being made? Management should be notified. They all need new training. Overall it was a bad experience. Will never go there again. And would not recommend that place either.

Google

I definitely recommend it to anyone... Come and tried it. And definitely dont forget to ask for their special cargo sauce on the side you will want to put it every where. Excellent love it Will definitely come and tatse other menu items after this incredible experience

We went to the first midsummer supper special dinner at cargo. It was awesome. Gracious ambiance, amazing string quartet and beautifully laid tables made it feel like a glamorous episode of Bridgerton. The alcohol program was great thank you casa amigos! And the food was everything I expect from chef Charlie Kiely. Delicious special gorgeous. All in all an amazing evening in LA historic park!

Google
Not bad! I had the fried chicken sandwich with fries and my boyfriend had the pulled pork dog which he liked. The chicken had a couple of dry chewy parts but most of it was great. Wish it had more of the sauce. I really enjoyed the fries. It was verrry filling. I’d come back again and try something else. Bring a blanket and have a picnic at the park!

Stephanie Mesdaghi

Google
Bottom line: pretty tasty burgers, sandwiches, bites and beers at the excellent Los Angeles State Historic Park, but for best value, bring your picnic We came for the Theodore Payne Foundation Native Plant Garden Tour after-party, and wanted a light early dinner. We decided to share a grilled chicken sandwich and pretzel bites, with a couple of local beers to wash it down. The chicken was pounded thin with an unexpected herb rub (was not advertised in the menu description). It was a bit dry, and okay, but not great. The house-made kettle chips were good. The pretzel bites with beer cheese were very tasty, and went very well with our beers. I'd eat here again, but would opt for one of the burgers or hot dogs instead of the chicken next time. The prices were on the high side, but not awful. The setting at Los Angeles State Historic Park was great!

Google
We had such a yummy experience at cargo. Was on a stroll in park and stopped for a snack. Had the chicken sandwich and a boozy shake. Really nice outdoor seating and friendly staff.

Yelp
* The Cargo Burger was delicious - juicy patty, good toast on the buns, fresh toppings, and a sturdy structure that didn't fall apart while eating * The Tater Tots were piping hot, crispy, and not overly salty * Overall, a great spot with friendly service, flavorful food, and peaceful scenery with it being located at a nice park

Yelp
The Mac and cheese sticks were more like onion sticks w some Mac :( very disappointing. Do not buy!

Yelp
Didn't have high expectations for this place but it exceeded my expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed the Blue Cheese Burger (it might have a different name). The customer service was great and ambiance was nice for a fresh Thursday in Cali. Highly recommend it! Thank you for the chips Cargo Snack! Delicious. $14

Yelp
A beautiful, partially cloudy day is a perfect climate for this outdoors patio area restaurant. As soon as I arrived, I knew I'd feel the guilt of devouring this Fried Chicken sandwich that is so airy, due to all these runners and their dogs besides the park. The batter was light, chicken, absolutely moist. Like eating a chicken cloud is how I'd describe it. The slaw is on the side, so your sandwich isn't soggy. The added thick diced pickles under the sandwich is surprisingly different. The chips. I loved them so much, because it's not like a thin crispy chip, but also not like a potato skin. The variation of thicknesses is sublime. A crisp chip, a rubbery chip, a thick potato-y chip.

Yelp
Maybe the best cheeseburger and fries I've had in a decade! It was perfect, simple and delicious. I am burger lover/snob and this one is worth driving across town to get. (Now, I want to try other things on the menu:)

Yelp
I dog sit in the area and we always come to the park. I've been to the Snack Shack 3 or 4 times now and they are always so great. They give out homemade dog treats and sometimes extra samples of dog food, treats, toppers. The food is fantastic and so is the coffee.

Yelp
This place is fantastic. Good food, great service always friendly. Had a very nice walk around the park. It was very chill happy vibe. Their margaritas are refreshing the tajin around the rim tastes perfect. The pretzel bites I can't they are so fluffy with the perfect salt flavor and that queso ugh perfection. We shared the La fries which were perfect, the queso fire....the thick fresh hot crispy fries with the green onion . I'm not a hot dog person but something about the pulled pork hot dog called my attention and let me tell you no regerts (inside joke ... sorry not sorry) oh yeah and the chips are great overall 100% come check it out great prices for the quality.

Yelp
Cargo is a cool hidden spot in the Chinatown area inside of the park. Parking is horrible around the area. Always packed. Service was friendly. They have a good beer and food menu. Outdoor patio seating. Good spot to eat if you getting drinks at Highland Park across the street.

Yelp
Came across this spot by accident and what a great accident it was!! This place is located beside a little park near China Town. Their menu has a very good variety of stuff. (Even Alcoholic Beverages) they have milkshakes and the option to give it an alcoholic upgrade!! Yes this place has delicious food, snacks and even shakes for the kids or even us Grown Kids . The service was great and the outdoor area has plenty of shade to enjoy the vibes. Thanks to Cargo for the excellent service

Mike A.

Yelp
The little shack that could! Had a great dog walk around the park and always knew this place was here. Got the Angeleno staple and it was perfect + some bomb fries. It literally hit the brunch spot. The cold beer and mimosa didn't hurt either. Our doggo loved the homemade doggy treats too. 10/10 recommend

Yelp
Love, love, love the new menu!! Brussel sprouts are a must try and that veggie burger I mean it was already good but this is even better!!! The team is always so inviting and a great place to grab food as you enter the park! Picnic perfect

Lenny N.

Yelp
THIS PLACE FUCKS SO HARD. The employees are so nice and Mark absolutely rocks!!!! He brought our food to the table himself and we had an amazing conversation. Also, THEY MAKE AMAZING FOOD. The pulled pork burger and la fries are so good. They cut their fries in a unique shape like I've NEVER seen any other place with the same cut of fries. Also the strawberry shake is BOMB (and dairy-free)!!!! The outdoor seating is so nice and breezy cuz there's lots of shade from the trees. I cannot say enough good things about this place!!!! Please support Cargo Snack Shack they deserve all the love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
Tried this place out through the off the menu app and came back a few months later for street food cinema show. Both times the food has been amazing. It also helps a ton that there is loads of free parking, a giant park next to it with lush scenery to take in. The food is relatively quick and the flavors of both the burger and grilled + fried chickens are all tasty. You can't beat the quiet ambiance with the dtla skyline in the clear view. Lovely quiet spot right outside of Chinatown that's perfect for a quick bite with no fuss.

Yelp
Cargo Snack Shack is a new hidden gem in the LA State Historic Park near Chinatown and is the perfect place to grab a quick lunch! I got their cargo burger, LA historic bleu burger, ranger dog, and New York cheesecake shake. I was really impressed by how good these burgers were! The buns were soft and toasted to perfection. Each entree came with chips that were so addicting and crunchy. The shake literally came a mini slice of cheesecake and I would recommend sharing this as it is a pretty huge shake. They also have other flavors like Oreo, peanut butter, and more. This park also has a lot of fun upcoming events like movie screenings, sports watch parties, live music, etc so it's the perfect place to stop by this summer!

Yelp
My first order from Cargo Snack Shack. I ordered through GrubHub. One cheeseburger and two hotdogs. The cheeseburger and hotdogs were good and still warm. Both came with potato chips. The chips were chewy, instead of crispy because they were put in the containers with hot food. I threw the chips in the trash. They also sent a teaspoon of coleslaw, which is laughable. I like my hotdogs with mustard and onions, but I could not make that selection through the app. I ordered two Cargo Dogs, which comes with beer cheese and pickled jalapeños. I'm so glad they put that nasty cheese on the side, that went in the trash with the chewy chips. Other than the things I mentioned I did like the cheeseburger and hotdogs they were good. Fortunately, I keep Sabrett Onions in Sauce and Sabrett Mustard on deck so I was able to hook my hotdogs up. I'm not sure if I would order from Cargo Snack Shack again because the price is too high for inedible potato chips and a teaspoon of coleslaw. I cannot comment on service and ambience because as I stated I ordered delivery through GrubHub.

Yelp
This place is delicious and conveniently located next to la historic park. The burgers here are delicious. I got the blue cheese one and loved the flavor of it. Their sidewinder fries are so amazing with their special sauce.

Greg F.

Yelp
Stopped by for a beer late afternoon, staff was very nice and owner was really friendly and accommodating, even as they were closing up. Really comfortable, shaded patio. Recommend!

Yelp
Omg!!!! This place is soooooo good. I'm serious yall know I am very picky. The customer service was fire...I spoke with the owner manager (forgot his name cool ass white dude) and he made sure our order was perfect and all my sauces were hooked up. Get the fries trust me how I know they were fire is because I got home and heated up the leftovers and they were just as good as they were fresh...I also got the burger with blue cheese and it was huge and flavor full my favorite part was the bun ...soft buttery ...reminds me of the bread from my favorite NYC deli.

Yelp
Great staff, great service and delicious burgers! I can't wait to go back!! I tried the Cargo burger and got an Oreo shake and fries and it did not disappoint. Nice hidden gem! Parking was also convenient.

Yelp
This place exceeded my expectations! We got the grilled chicken sandwich, sidewinder fries, and grilled chicken quesadilla. The chicken sandwich was overall pretty good! There was 2 pieces of grilled chicken surprisingly and slaw separately. On the menu it said burgers and sandwiches comes with chips and slaw, but then when I asked if fries came with it, it didn't. So we had to order it separately. Either way if they meant chips (not fries), there was no chips to be found with our order. However, the fries were thick, hot, and crunchy! very warm and filling. The chicken quesadilla's flavor was a little lacking and although the guacamole was good, did not compensate in the slightest. 8/10 . Overall the service was good and quick. They also had a restroom if you needed to use it!

Yelp
Wow what an awesome spot. Conveniently located right in front of the park. Gives you extra incentive to workout and have a delicious meal after. Don't let the name "snack shack" fool you either. They have amazing food. I made the mistake of trying their beer cheese bacon sidewinders. Now I'm addicted! Lol Everything I've tried here has been unique and delicious. Gourmet taste at a great price. My friends and I have already become regulars. We had a chance to talk to some of the workers about upcoming events. Looks like they will be hosting concerts, brunches, and a lot of other fun activities at the park again soon. We are beyond excited and anxious for this to happen! After the last year our community needs to het outside, get active, and enjoy life! We appreciate the members of Cargo for offering us something new, fun, and tasty.

Yelp
I was looking for somewhere to eat b4 Pride Fest and read about its reviews here on Yelp. So I decided to eat here and the food was delicious The burger was so juicy and their special sauce was really good. The flavor of the Cheeseburger was delicious. The price was not bad at all especially compared to some of the other places nearby.
google avatar

Zane A.

Yelp
This place is incredibly over priced for a very disappointing meal. I hate to bash a business I just really would like someone to be honest for me and let me know it's not worth my hard earned money. The bread and the chicken sandwich were incredibly dry. I ordered avocado and think I may have gotten half a slice in there. Not to mention we waited for a long time for the food. Not worth the wait, not worth the money. 1 star
google avatar

Socorro V.

Yelp
We had the blue cheese burger and pulled pork sandwiches with corkscrew fries and coleslaw. Everything was made with fresh ingredients and very tasty. The service was great! The patio seating area was clean, shaded, and relaxing. Definitely going to back to taste some of the other delicious sounding items on the menu.
google avatar

Albert I.

Yelp
Stood by the window for about 15 minutes to order a beer and absolutely nobody in sight, except someone hiding behind the grill. An acknowledgement would've been great. Had to leave and get a beer across the street. Otherwise, food and atmosphere is great! (from previous visit)
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome burger and fries and they have other variety of food come and check it out fresh and

Debora Y.

Yelp
Ugh i hate when restaurants forget a portion of the order when picking up. Just picked up my order for the blue burger and a side cut fries and noticed they didnt include the chips and slaw that was supposed to be included with the burger order. Also forgot to include the sauce that was supposed to come with the fries order. Phone not answered. Disappointing
google avatar

Ivie H.

Yelp
Nice little outdoor restaurant by the park. I love the potato fries!! Blue cheese burger is pretty good too!!
google avatar

Naomi S.

Yelp
I've been here several times before Dodger games and the food NEVER disappoints! The blue burger is so flavorful and the side winder fries are so BOMB. Don't forget to get your mango michelada. This place is a hidden gem right now but as soon as the cool kids find out it's gonna be crazy packed. Go now ! Thank me later. You're welcome

Ms K.

Yelp
This establishment is gross in character. The cashier sees me and any of my Hispanic co workers and her attitude makes my heart ache. She makes you repeat yourself so many times until you're practically screaming (mind you I speak perfect English). Trying to smile in a warm way so she wouldn't feel bad she left my drink on the side even though I was standing there and she had just finished filling it!! Instead of giving me my drink she placed it far away from the window by sliding it closer to her and ran to help a white man order. She practically ran to him. Today was my breaking point. I saw two young guys needing to use the restroom. They are always doing activities together either in the park or on the tables at the shack and today both cashier and owner said to get out of the shop immediately when they asked if they could please use the restroom. One of the kids was disabled and was jumping up amd down, clearly an emergency and they didn't even bother with them for one second. I stopped to talk to them and they said they always get treated this way. These owner are racists towards Latinos they're big inconsiderate jerks. No heart no soul? Food ain't worth it. Don't give your money to these assholes.

Yelp
Great hidden spot. Good vibes . Highly recommend. Say hi to mark when there..
google avatar

Yelp
This place just recently opened and I am so excited! I've been waiting for it to open up. We are at the park all the time and it's so awesome that this spot is now open. They have a pretty good selection and booze will be available soon! We had the chicken sandwich, chicken quesadilla, fries and the Oreo milkshake. The fries are like wedges. Everything was really good. The milkshake was heavenly. The owner is super friendly and welcoming as well.
google avatar

Julian V.

Yelp
Stopped by yesterday while tryna debate what to eat and man am I glad I stopped by food was delicious and fast the staff was super friendly and the scenery is so relaxing would recommend to anyone. Can't wait for the beer to be available

ZenSasha Z.

Yelp
Took my pup for a walk and stopped here to pick up dinner for my people. They are going to have their liquor license soon and serve adult beverage! Right at the edge of the LA State Historical Park. I'll be back! Probably tomorrow!

Dren L.

Yelp
Amazing service and food! The owner/owners are very nice and inviting. Me and my family come to a LA every month or so to run some errands and always make it a point to stop by here bringing new people every time and everybody has loved it. Next time i will make sure to take pictures and show how good the food really is.

Thomas N.

Yelp
Finally food, drink and adult beverages at the Historic State Park. Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, fries and other goodies. Adult Beverages can only be consumed in the Cargo Snack Shack patio. They are not over priced and lower than the competition across the street or, south, down the block. Thanks to Lauren Bon in seeding the park with corn ( "not a cornfield" ). A special place north of DTLA.

Clayton K.

Yelp
Great food and an awesome location. Walking distance to the metro, Chinatown, and a few breweries in the area. Highly recommend the pretzel bites and the shakes.
google avatar

Meagan M.

Yelp
Stoked to see this spot pop up! We tried the milkshakes -- delicious. Super cute patio space next to the state historic park. Excited to try more of their food and drinks soon!
google avatar

Meg A.

Yelp
What a nice surprise to find a spot with great food and drinks located with in a historic park in DTLA! We love eating outdoors and many of the beer gardens are too crowded at the moment. We had a lovely meal - burger, quesadillas, homemade potato chips and slaw, all delicious. Margaritas with a chimoy rim was a nice touch and and IPA for $6 is a good price point for beer. Many restaurants are over charging but not here. We met the general manager Mark and he was so friendly and hospitable. We can't wait to see what they do with their upcoming brunches and music series coming soon! Highly recommend to anyone that loves good food in a beautiful park setting. Family and dog friendly.
google avatar

Chris N.

Yelp
Line of 20 people. Ordered a burger and waited over an hour for it. Took them 10min to call out each order. Saw an employee on his phone the whole time, another eating and one of them got mad at me when I mentioned how long we were waiting. Will never go back.
google avatar

Esteve M.

Yelp
Over priced for what you get for lunch. Food was ok. Had the chili dog with chips and cheese fries and a soda. $32

Vi V.

Yelp
You'd be surprised how this shack can have such amazing food. You can tell the menu was carefully created to provide the best quality of food. My favorite are the fries and chicken sandwich. My friends got burgers and were impressed with it as well. Phenomenal service from Mark and Juan as well as all the employees on several of my visits here. The drinks are delicious and they have shakes with an alcoholic add-on option for just a few bucks more.
google avatar

Karen R.

Yelp
Closed at 7:15pm, but time of closing is stated as 8pm. Unfortunate. Would've liked to give the place a shot but could not due to them closing earlier than stated.
google avatar

Devin R.

Yelp
This place has great prices and quality food. Plus friendly service...all in the park!
google avatar

Sara J.

Yelp
Really good spot, I got the cargo burger and it was so good it reminded me of a shake shack burger. My friend ordered the pulled pork burger and let me try it and it was super delicious, next time I go, I'm ordering the pulled pork burger for sure. We also shared the sidewinder cut Fries and killed them, the cargo sauce is similar to cheese which was really tasty. I was a little sad because we originally went for the shakes but the machine to make them was down. But I'm glad we discovered this spot and order food because it was surprisingly tasty.

Rick H.

Yelp
The location of this burger joint is beautiful! It's right next to the park so you can buy food from here and have a small picnic on the grass. There's also some covered seating right next to the restaurant. I tried the la historic blue burger with chips and substituted the blue cheese with American cheese. The chips were SUPER crispy and had a nice crunch with each bite. The bun was soft and overall the burger had a good taste, but the price is on the higher end. Parking can be hard to find since it's mostly street parking unless you park at the park.
google avatar

Rudolph G.

Yelp
My Brother brought me here saying the burgers here are good. I consider myself a burger aficionado...so I try LA HISTORIC BLEU....hands down the best bleu cheeseburger I've tasted! So glad to know this place is here in the park!!!
google avatar

Jenni H.

Yelp
The staff here is unbelievably nice and attentive. I love going to this park with my dad and we get to spend some family time together, enjoy the outdoors and get lunch. They have milkshakes, booze, like real margaritas with tequila not some soju bs, plus wine and beer. Food is solid - what's not to love: burgers, salads, pretzel, fries. My dad accidentally spilled his water and someone came out and brought out a new cup. If you don't like this place - I'm sorry you hate life.
google avatar

Justine Y.

Yelp
I was here today and decided to grab a bite for lunch and ordered the fried chicken sandwich because your girl cannot resist a fried chicken sandwich if it's on the menu and in my mind, you can never go wrong. It was going OK until I got to the middle and noticed it tasted a little too rubbery so I look down and realized it was totally undercooked. Now I'm writing this because I just went through the last hour of pain and suffering because of it. How do you not make sure your chicken is fully cooked??
