Caribbean American Gourmet

This review is super late. I patronized on Saturday, 10-1-22. Hadn't been on this block in many years. Assuming that either the food was very good or I got there too late as a lot of menu items I inquired about weren't available. I was there a few mins before 4 pm. I ended up ordering sides of macaroni and cheese and sweet potatoes. Made a stop before I got in, but my food was still hot from the good wrapping. Would definitely return to try other things. The food I ordered was filling and good.

This place is FANTASTIC! The food is wonderfully flavorful and delicious. Jerk chicken was incredible (get some of the gravy and hot sauce on the side) and the Mac and cheese was so good. Shoutout to one of the regulars who helped me get the lay of the land and let me know about all the good work the owner Mike did giving out free food to the needy during the pandemic. He said the portions *used* to be huge, but as you can see from my photo they’re still very generous (and only cost me $10)!! Service was straightforward and the prices weren’t bad. It is take out only, so plan to go home or walk over to Lexington market to eat. Some items aren’t available everyday so if you have your eye on something specific (pumpkin roti) better to call ahead. Can’t wait to come back.

I'm not a conisieur of Caribbean, curry or goat but the cabbage, yellow rice and curry goat were 10 out of 10. Truly amazing!

I've been going to this Caribbean spot for a long time when they were in the old market near Green St. I hadn't been in a minute, but I'm glad I did. Brother went and bought quite a bit. Ox tails were awesome. 1/2 jerk chicken mac and cheese greens plus yams was awesome. Basically, everything was delicious. Mike and his wife can throw down in the kitchen. Check it out for yourself.

Been visiting this location for years as well as when they were inside Lexington Market. Food is always prepared fresh and there is such a variety that you are never disappointed and you get a lot for your money. I get enough to last me and my husband for two days. And when I say a lot you are walking out with a heavy bag.

I ordered Chicken Roti from Carribean American Gourmet & it was amazing!!!! I just returned the Maryland this year and have been craving some good West Indian food. I gone to a lot of West Indian restaurants here but recieved terrible food. I had to come all the way to Baltimore and go to Carribean American Gourmet just to receive delicious and properly cooked West Indian food. I highly recommend anyone looking for some good roti to please go to Carribean American Gourmet. The owners are really nice and provide fast service.

This is an take-out location. It could use a renovation to be more astheticly pleasing because it is a bit antiquated. Okay, enough about the looks.... Now food! I walked in and was pleasantly happy at the inordinate amount of options of food. I asked for pholourie and a doubles one time... Unfortunately they only had roti 😞. So I ordered a Goat Roti with pepper. I had to wait 10min, which makes me think the roti skin is freshly made. Let me tell you why... The roti skin was soft, flakey, the split peas was perfectly cooked and o gosh tasty like that! Doh talk for the curry goat...eh eh... Melting off de bone, tasty, and perfect texture! Only down sides are: #1. is its $21, must roti shops sell for $13 in MD. #2. the roti isn't big enough to wrap. #3. The container, a three compartment holder, does not allow for a full roti. #4. The lady who put the food together did not have a mask on.... SO THEY SERVE/COOK/PREP FOOD WITHOUT A MASK🤔😔😬.... I WAS STARVING SO I STILL OREDERD AND ATE...🙏🏽 #5. I took away a 🌟 because I shared my goat roti with a carribean born and raised person, they took one bite and was like, no thanks. I ATE IT All🥴🤷🏾‍♀️

I knew I was gonna have a training for work in the area and decided this would be a good time to finally check this place out. I called my order in and the man on the phone was very pleasant and told me my food would be ready ASAP! By the time I arrived they were bagging up my order. I got the roti with curry chicken with a strawberry drink. This was a HUGE serving of food! So big that it wouldn't close and had to be tied down with saran wrap. I opened the roti and the scents smacked me in the face. This was the best curry chicken I've ever had. After tasting the food and meeting the owner, I'll definitely be back.

so I went to this place since I missed angies (they close promptly at 4pm) and I was very surprised. the owner was super nice, and told me he has been there for over 15 years. the food was served buffet style and it was great. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that is in the B'more area near Lexington market.

Awesome finds are always by mistake. I was in the area for something warm and hearty. To my dismay, the original spot I was looking was closed. As I was leaving, I saw the words Caribbean American. I instantly thought, I wouldn't be mad at Oxtails right now. And oxtails and rice & peas I got! So good! Absolutely tender and mouthwatering. Along with that I got cabbage and a hot buttered cocoa bread! Will definitely be visiting again. Mike has gained a new fan!

Anyways friendly !!! And great portions !!! I love the cornbread ! Also u can get ur aide's mixed .. I get Mac & cheese w/ greens in a bowl everytime ! Yummmmm

Friendly owner, delicious Trini food, incredible portions around the corner from Lex Mkt. They sell doubles if you order 1 day in advance. Totally worth it for biting into fluffy hot clouds filled with spicy, sweet, tangy goodness. Great for sharing with your office for lunch, or taking home as an appetizer for the fam. Because the only caveat with the doubles is you have to order at least 6. I'll come back and edit this later. When i have pictures and more time to say what i want. Just wanted to put it out there that doubles are here if you didn't know.

This is one of my favorite restaurant to patronize. The food is excellent. The portions are so large that Mike takes the time to wrap your container(s) with plastic wrap. I really, really, really enjoy the spicy jerk chicken with yams and macaroni and cheese. And don't forget the Coco bread and cornbread. Furthermore, the Half and Half is excellent. Please take the time to support Mike and his wife as they wonderful people.

I wanted something wholesome but filling for lunch so I came by and got a potato and channa roti...absolutely delicious. It was like $9 and massive. The dhalpuri was soft and perfectly chewy, and the curry was delicious. I feel terrible that I went by myself and didn't pick anything up for my Trinidadian husband...but I'll just have him come back with me next time. Service was awesome and I will be trying everything else on the menu.

I hate to write this review ...... However something must be said about this place ! I used to have so much respect for the owners/workers. They are a husband and wife who are always nice and courteous. But, that doesn't make up for the quality of the food. It is truly dismal ! I used to frequent them years ago but, stopped because of the price. The food has never been very seasoned but, the portions are huge. The fact that it wasn't the most seasoned caribbean food didn't bother me because, they were convenient to my job. And the food wasn't distateful, that was before !!! Nowadays, the portions are huge and not fresh!!!! Today, I ordered a steakfish platter. And the fish was crumbly and appeared to have been cooked in old grease. The macaroni was totally tasteless, as well as the collard greens that I ordered. I also ordered oxtail for a co-worker. They were unable to even eat more than a few bites. In all fairness, this is the second time recently that their food has been bad. I had food from there a week ago that was totally bland and wasn't very fresh. But, today was downright awful !!!!! I felt embarassed even recommending this place to my co-worker ! I know the recession has hit places hard and I was very hesitant to write this review. I'm sure business is slow because of the economy.However for the prices they charge, they are not even meeting the standard of a pack of ramen noodles!!! I'm truly disappointed ! I don't know how they are staying in business ! If my food had cost a dollar it still would've been too much ! I will never eat here again ! I hope the old fish doesn't give me food poisoning !

Words cannot describe this place. They are the best at what they do. They will fill your platter to the point of stuffing it. I do not like my food to touch but honestly I did not care. I had sweet potatoes mac n cheese greens and bbq wings. I paid around 14$ it was worth every penny. I ate about 3 times from that plate throughout the day. I just wish they were open Sundays which is usually my off day.

I have been patronizing this resturant for years, the resturant is clean, the owners are personable; and to top that, their food is amazing from the classic Carribean dishes to the American dishes. Give them a try, you won't regret it and you will become a regular customer, too.

I love this place the food is excellent & you get a lot of it. Mike & his wife are so nice they treat you like family. I recommend this place to all my friends & family. Im going today for the grilled wings & jerk sauce.

The food is exceptional and you get great portions for your dollars. I was here a few days ago and ordered the oxtail dinner with double Mac and cheese and it was delicious.

You simply cannot get more great take out food for a decent price than here. Anything I have ordered has always been hot tasty and much more than the white Styrofoam container can hold. Grill chicken. Sweet potatoes. Cheese and mac. The greens. Beef ribs. Fish. The only thing I haven't tired has been any pork. Everything has been excellent.
