I haven't had Jamaican food often and my husband wanted to bring me to celebrate his licensure. I was not disappointed bc the food was absolutely delicious and very filling. They have huge portions. The employees are very warm and welcoming. The beef patty is so affordable and served piping hot. We loved the curry goat and the coco bread was very soft and fluffy like a pillowy pleasant texture. For $50 we were super stuffed with plenty to take home. Also my first time trying ackee which is their national flower/fruit and dish with saltfish (cod) and I would definitely eat it again. A positive experience having Jamaican cuisine. If you like trying new foods and have been curious about Jamaican food then this spot will surely leave you with a positive experience. I highly recommend Caribbean Hotpot Grill to all locals and visitors. PS. They have amazing classic songs playing most of which you'll be able to sing to from the 80s and 90s era!

My husband and I drove 3 hours to have lunch to this restaurant. The cashier is very friendly and the food is very good. My husband always tells me that the drive is long but give us time to get away from small town

The food is delicious. My wife and I had the jerk chicken, very spicy ( like we like it). The best cabbage we had( ( cooked just right).

First time eating here and it was amazing! Me and my bestfriend ordered quite a bit to get a taste of it and nothing disappointed. We couldn't even wait to go home we dug right in. The curry chicken was so tender and flavorful it was honestly our favorite. The plantain and cabbage that came with every plate was delicious. The jerk chicken was perfect the tang the spice and everything nice came along beautifully. The beef patty and coco bread was absolutely tasteful it was the first thing gone! I've had some bad ox tails but these were so soft, smothered in sauce and just delicious. Will be back for more and could not recommend enough! Service is okay but the food is worth it.

This review is based off of today's order. Usually I have the stewed chicken and it is great. The soup was good; however, the chicken patty is not good at all. It was either old or burnt, it was definitely waste of money.

Google
I had the jerk chicken and my boyfriend had the oxtail, both dishes were really good and the portions were very good for the price! We want to come back and try something new one day too. 5 stars

Had the Beown Stewed chicken and it was great. First time here and I will be coming back.

Tried this location for the first time. the rice and peas were pretty good. I did enjoy the sprinkle of spices and the flavor of coconut milk in random bites, but it wasn't congruent throughout. The plantain was definitely on point and delicious and I love that. Some places don't know what they're doing with it, this place definitely does. The cabbage is very savory, very flavorful. I actually prefer mine to be sweet and savory. More like they do in Jamaica, but it wasn't bad. I had the jerk pork. It was okay. A little drier, and they do leave the fat or skin on it. It's not really seasoned and spicy by itself. They do offer sauce on the side, which is basically just a spicy sauce, is not a barbecue or flavorful sauce besides just being a spicy sauce. I didn't really like the sauce, and the meat just was okay to me. It wasn't so dry that I was upset, but I felt like it could have been more moist, and it could have been seasoned. I did order two plates of this, and the plate servings of meat and were not the same to me, one plate had clearly more meat and the other more plantain than the other. Overall, I would give it a three to four out of five because I enjoyed the rice and cabbage okay and the plantain so much. I went ahead and gave them 4 because there's no 3.5. I would be willing to come back and try a different entree next time, probably not another jerked meat, but maybe their oxtail or curry and reevaluate.

Yelp
Best jerk I've ever tasted!! No ... Curry goat... Amazing! Brown stew chicken didn't come with any veggies but the flavor was there. I wish it had more sides to pick from. The lady taking my order was a little stand offish but if the food hitting like it's supposed to I'll put up with a little rudeness. lol & the food is definitely good.

Shakita P.

Yelp
I don't think I've ever ordered a Togo meal and it was prepared, bagged and ready to go before I could even pay! Needless to say, service was friendly and quick. The food was hot and delicious. I ordered a SMALL stewed chicken plate that lasted two meals, easily! It can with rice/peas, plantain, & cabbage. I def could've used some more spice, but was good. We also ordered ordered 5 meat patties, which deceptively looked unfresh sitting under the heating lamp, but were very warm, flaky, and tasty indeed! There were tables inside with what looked like a bar off to one side, so maybe they host events there. I'm not sure. But this place did not disappoint!

Yelp
First time customer. I had the jerk chicken lunch special and spicy beef pattie. This place is full of Jamaican influenced decor and music jamming --a little too loud to enjoy lunch with a friend -- but I had takeout so it was no problem. Service was fast The chicken was well prepared and quite tasty along with the rice and cabbage sides The pattie was yummy with flaky crust. Definitely will be back to try more! Ate too fast to take pic of food but did capture this pic before I left.

Yelp
So good, quick food good service, priced well and was very fulfilling in the flavor I was looking for. Super authentic inside and the food too.

Marvin K.

Yelp
The oxtail plate with cabbage, plantain, rice and peas definitely hit the spot. Then they are not stingy with the oxtails. They provided great customer service and the ambience was giving Caribbean. The flavor was right as well, I would definitely come back!!!

Yelp
Arrived around 8:30pm on Wednesday and found the lights on with all the chairs up. My husband went in and asked if we can sit to eat as we had driven there after calling and confirming that they close at 9pm- they said yes and took down some chairs so we could sit. The lady at the cashier was relatively nice compared to the service and attitude usually given at Caribbean restaurants. The food was food but unfortunately was barely even warm. -jerk chicken: would have preferred charred flavor like other Jamaican spots have. -rice and peas: okay flavor, a bit mushy -cabbage: not oily, and not lightly pickled like other places. Tastes simply of steamed cabbage. -fried sweet plantain: saturated in oil as if cooked in old oil.

Deveraux E.

Yelp
Food was fresh and very flavorful ladies who took our order were very nice! My plate was packed with food and flavor well worth my money I will be back for sure ! If you like spicy food their hot sauce was top tier!

Nick L.

Yelp
All of the above, beef patties are good....but my favorite so far is the jerk chicken.....seasoned well and ....

Laddavanh H.

Yelp
Best home cooked Jamaican food in Houston. (I'm particular about mine. If granny's foot is not in itI don't want it lol!) I was missing home and needed a pick me up. This spot was just fabulous! They have live music on Friday and Sunday brunch with music. True to my heart! Thank you!

Sonia L.

Yelp
We love Jamaican food, although the people here doesn't show friendlyness we still try them out and this place is closer to us My husband is from the Caribbeans he ordered the steamed red snapper and I ordered the 2 meat combo plate oxtails and curry goat to go. The fish was very rubbery but the veggies was good enough to eat believe me if I tell you he orders this often from Jamaican restaurants I never seen my husband ever leaving fish on his plate he left the whole fish on his plate. He was so disappointed especially after paying the price for a large red snapper and end up getting a bad deal. My Combo plate on the other hand was good. This was my second time coming to this one on 1960 but the first time we ordered red fish. Several people tells me to go to the one on veteran's memorial which is better and more friendlier in customer service.

LaToya N.

Yelp
This establishment has the best jerk chicken. The service is friendly and the ambiance is chill.

Traci P.

Yelp
Food was dry, tasted old and stale Very disappointed . I had jerk chicken. Hope to find a place that serves good Jamaican Food

Alexis O.

Yelp
It was good, I'm on the daniel fast, so I apprecitate the vegitable roti. They didnt have any vegitable pies available, but I was able to enjoy what I got. Service was pretty quick, didn't have to wait long for my food.

Hakima M.

Yelp
Food is decent but always prepared in a sloppy way. And items are typically missing. Ordered an entire side of plaintain (which is already overpriced) and they didn't even include it. Never again.

Travis N.

Yelp
An errand brought me to North Houston, so I thought I should try some of the food in the area. A quick Yelp search revealed to me that there was a Caribbean restaurant nearby. Never wanting to miss a chance at good Caribbean food, I made my way to the restaurant. I got one of the combos: jerk chicken, rice and peas, cabbage, and gravy all over. Delicious. The jerk chicken was the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. Finger-licking good. Also went down nicely with a side of pineapple ginger juice. 5/5. Would come again.

Lisandra T.

Yelp
Attended the reggae fest 2022 and purchased from here the : oxtail plate 3.5/5 Curry chicken roti 4/5 Jerk chicken plate 4/5 -- but sppppiiiccyy for my liking lol Im a tough critic of oxtail so the 3.5 is a great rating. It was tender, flavorful, they gave gravy for the rice and a fair amount of oxtail for the 20$ charge. All plates came with rice n pea and cabbage and piece of plantain. I can say I've tried three Jamaican cuisine restaurants here in Houston and this would be #1 of the 3 to me. People complain about poor service but it is a known stereotype where im from -Ny- the ruder they are the better the food is and if I follow that I can say its true lol. Nicest Jamaican restaurant service I had here was also the worst food. So do with that info what you will. No pix I was hungry and busted that food downnnnn

Bruce N.

Yelp
A taste of Caribbean style eats, not too bad decent food. Oxtail plate 4/5 The oxtails were well tossed in their sauce unlike the chicken and pork. Pieces were on the thinner side but still delicious and good meat to fat ratio. Rice wasn't dry and has beans in it which was a nice touch. Cabbage wasn't mushy and plantains was decent also. Jerk chicken 2.8/5 Nothing amazing, could use more of the jerk sauce they tossed it in. Also 13$ for 6pc wings is somewhat steep Jerk pork 3.2/5 Big cuts of pork, has a 70/30 meat to fat ratio on the chops but again could definitely use more of the jerk sauce they put on it.

Yelp
When I say I have been craving Jamaican food, I have been C R A V I N G Jamaican food. & when my husband told me today I could eat whatever I wanted to eat, since he ate without me yesterday () I took full advantage. I got the two meat plate with oxtails, curry goat, rice & peas, plantano & cabbage. As well as the goat roti. (He forgot to get my coco bread, but that's another story for a different day!) & yes, both plates were definitely just for me. & yes both plates are definitely gone. It was just what I was looking for & just what I wanted. It soothed my craving & made me want to go back tomorrow. I didn't go inside to order, I sent him in with my order. So I can't speak on customer service, nor the ambiance. But he didn't have any complaints. Signed fat & full!

Yelp
This is our absolute 'go to' spot for solid and excellent Jamaican food. The portions are good, and the food always consistently good. our standard take aways are jerk chicken, oxtail, and goat stew. Cannot go wrong with any of them. All boxes come with rice and peas (bean), fried plantains, and cabbage....and the quantities are good enough to last at least 2 meals. We've tried several other Jamaican restaurants around the Houston area, and HotPot Grill stands out from all of them.

Raymond E.

Yelp
Plate was full so good value for the price. The service was also good as I was only there for no more than 5 minutes. The ambiance of the place is ok nothing too spectacular but it is in a nice spot. As far as the food goes being from the Caribbean I'm always looking for that flavor from my youth. It did not disappoint as the rice and peas tasted great and the brown stew chicken was cooked to perfection. The plantains were the one thing I have to complain about as they were dry and had no flavor. I definitely recommend this place if you are in the mood for some Jamaican food

Tameka M.

Yelp
Very disappointing to go to a Jamaican restaurant for authentic meat patties and receive Sam's Wholesale brand meat patty!

Christi B.

Yelp
I love this place! The food is always fresh and delicious. I absolutely love the ox tails and the curry chicken. They also have this dish on the breakfast menu called callalou and saltfish. Think greens, but it's not greens. So good! Every plate comes with very well seasoned steamed (or pan-fried) cabbage, rice and peas, and a plantain. If you leave here hungry, go straight to the doctor because you obviously have a tapeworm or something. They also offer bottled drinks that are imported from Jamaica; yummy juices, and a ginger beer. There are two locations, and they each have a full bar, but I've never gone at night to see it operational. I'm all about the food, man. So, if you don't really want a full meal, don't let that stop you. They also have yummy hand pies with either chicken, beef, or one other that I can't remember. Oh well, you'll have to just go and find out for yourself.

Yelp
FM1960 Service is consistent. I have not heard them be accountable once. It is always deflected to an outside influence or ignored. Onsite Experience 1: Excellent Uber Experience: They forgot to give Uber the fried fish and 2 coco bread. They said Uber left without it. Impossible when they have it possession. Uber stated the ladies were chatting it up. Onsite Experience 2: Phone Order for pick-up was Excellent Onsite Experience 3: Phone order for pick-up only gave me 1 of 2 coco bread I ordered 2. Then asked if I had cash to pay for the second one. 1. Advice; go to Veterans Memorial if possible. 2. If not, do not pay them anything until you have your complete order in your face and have opened every container for accuracy. Veteran Memorial experience has always been superb. Thank you, Veteran Memorial location for getting things right the first time and for your kindness when servicing customers.

Jamie F.

Yelp
We love this place ! The Escovich Fish is amazing, and comes with rice and beans, cabbage and plantains, all very flavorful. One rum punch will get you right!!

Monique T.

Yelp
Omggggggg such amazing selections and huge portions. I could have easily shared each dish with at least one other person if not two (in my house), SOOOOO delicious. I couldn't wait to get home to take a few bites, so I sat like a crazed woman in my car and just dug into the piping hot shrimp roti and omfggggggg the softest most flavorful roti, sauce and succulent shrimp. Got oxtail and curry goat (the woman's suggestion), and beef Pattie's because they're my favorite. Very, VERY delicious, and definitely coming back.

Dirck V.

Yelp
I'm increasing my former four star rating of Caribbean Hot Pot Grill to five stars. My initial critique which brought them down was about the consistency of their side dishes (plantains and steamed cabbage). We've visited the Caribbean Hot Pot Grill another six or seven times since my original review and not one time have we had that issue again. We've both fallen in love with the curry goat and tend to visit this location about once a week to partake of it. This restaurant is about a one hours drive from where we live but the food is delicious enough that we have no problem making the drive. There are no other restaurants in the Houston area that we regularly drive two hours roundtrip to eat at. The only new critique we have of this location concerns the consistency of the meat to bone ratio in the curry goat. On some visits we receive far more meat than bones and on other visits far more bones than meat. I know this is a very difficult thing to control while serving the dish but it's still kind of frustrating on the days you receive an excess of bone. This place rocks and deserves five stars. The food is so tasty it's addictive, the staff is friendly and welcoming and the large portions are reasonably priced. This is a first-class operation and if you haven't tried them yet you should try them today!

Gwen B.

Yelp
Jerk Chicken wings were so delicious! Great customer service! Thank You! Chicken Meat Pies and Veggie Meat Pies were so good!

Cindeezy Bugatti B.

Yelp
Food is good. Closest thing to home / jam dung the goat is excellent the ackee was great.

Vijay P.

Yelp
Good food, nice people, good service Prices are a little high but it's good food, Environment is ok but the place is small and place your order before you go it's quicker.

Lashunda L.

Yelp
We ordered oxtails jerk wings curry goat and curry chicken. We got there around 1130am. We waited about 15 to 20 minutes for our food. Food was awesome rice and beans. Plaintains and the veggie we will most def go back. Next time I will try the Rum Punch or Rum Mojito

Geraldine L.

Yelp
Your website does not show that it has updated the Veteran's Memorial Antonio location opening hours to 11am. I had been calling to place an order since 10am. I only found out after calling this specific location. I placed a lunch order for my team of 12 lunch specials ahead of time. When I got there, I shared with an associate that I actually tried emailing you guys at info@carribeanhotpotgrill.com and got a return "undeliverable" response. She did not seem fazed by it at all. In fact she said, "I don't know." She did not seem happy working there and did not seem to care about my customer experience at all. She was on her Airpods talking to somebody else the whole time. This was my first time there after hearing raving reviews about the food. it's one thing to serve delicious food and another to have horrible customer service. i will not be coming back here again. your customer service really sucks. big time.

Antonio B.

Yelp
Nice service. Delicious food. Fair prices. Great portion. Doesn't accept Discover card though :-/. Visa, cash ok. Try the beef patty with coco bread.

Francisco C.

Yelp
I come here for the beef meat pies. But they have some much good food. The Jerk chicken is very good.

Ashley S.

Yelp
Let's start this review off with you people need to learn how to answer the phone this is the 2nd week that my husband called and nobody picks up. Y'all are 30 minutes away but my husband took a chance and drove there anyways and low and behold y'all are open chatting up the storm. The food was delicious and they have huge portions. But y'all lack in customer service.

Ricardo A.

Yelp
Saying this is a hole in the wall is not enough. You've ever seen the movie Holes? With movie star Shia LaBeouf. In the movie, Shia's character finds a golden lipstick tube in one of the many holes they have dug. Eventually leading to a treasure chest. This restaurant is that Hole. Among all the many holes in the wall (or ground), this one Hole held a treasure. The treasure in this case, being amazing Caribbean food. My favorite is the oxtails and their version of empanadas.

Eugene T.

Yelp
The phone is answered "How can I help you?" No mention of who or where I'm calling. I like this place but the customer service is dry like yeah come on let's get this over with. I get it you work everyday but I want at least the basics. I ask how long will it be I'm told just come on in now. I enjoy this place and the service when I got there was cool on this instance but the service is for me generally up and down. To be honest I always look for an opportunity to support black and intend to still support here because they make decent food but personally the experience is not that great. Now please note this experience is just to service not staying in and the feel of the place. I have been in and it was a vibe going on inside of good energy, at least before the pandemic. This is a place I feel you will definitely enjoy the food and maybe be cool with the service. I by no means have had all bad service but on just pickup orders from here I shouldn't be interacting enough with anyone for the experience to rub me as bad. To end things get the jerk chicken and enjoy the meal. The beef patties are the most worth it thing but make sure to get in before they are out for the day.

Kim T.

Yelp
This restaurant is mediocre compared to Carribean restaurants in the Houston area. I ordered the vegetable stew plate and Jerk Wings. The menu did not offer plantains which was to my surprise. I also tried to order thevegetable patties they were out of those. The customer service was typical that you get in Carribean restaurants dry, cold with a hint of rudeness. I won't be returning or recommending to friends.

Cameron N.

Yelp
Googled carribean food after my hair apt and this place popped up, GREAT CURRY GOAT CHICKEN!! Loved the spiciness it had in there with the rice. 10/10

felicia s.

Yelp
Still pissed and it's been 3 months since I been here. How do you serve brown stew chicken without any brown stew sauce! These women don't have the best attitude. Hate Love birds and cool running is so far away. Your (order)credit card payment has yourbe over I believe $6 or $9. I used cash and had to wait for them to send someone tonwalk.to get change at the corner store. All around bad business

Joel P.

Yelp
Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of my food. I noticed this place when it first opened up. Always wondered how the food was until my wife just said, go by yourself and try it out. I am glad I did. I got the large jerk chicken and it was phenomenal. I will be going again. Boy am I stuffed. I highly recommend.

Jana J.

Yelp
I had been wanting to try this place for so long and finally got to and I'm so happy I did! It was honestly the best Caribbean food I've ever had. The flavors were out of this world and everything was hot and fresh. The oxtails were juicy and tender as well as the curry goat. The cabbage was cooked to perfection and the rice and peas tasted amazing. The beef Patties had the perfect amount of spice and the flaky crust was made just right. I honestly don't have any complaints about this meal. When I left my soul was very happy. I def will be back for more. Caribbean Hot Pot is a hidden gem for sure. 10/10

JoHanna D.

Yelp
The flavor is amazing, however...no matter what day or time I go, the temperature to my jerk isn't hot, it's Luke warm... The jerk and curry flavor is so on point that I continue to come back... How I only wish that they would do better with the temperature. Until then, I'll just call it Caribbean Warm Pot!

Armstead90 ..

Yelp
Great customer service and you get a lot for your money. I got a large jerk chicken plate. I didn't like the jerk chicken there wasn't that charred flavor you would expect. The rice and peas / cabbage was wonderful perfectly seasoned.

Jai P.

Yelp
If you good to a Jamaican restaurant and the worker are really nice most likely the food is just ok. The workers here are straight to the point no small talk and the food is the bomb.!!!! I highly recommend Caribbean Hot Pot Grill just make sure to call your order in so you don't have to wait.

Lewis B.

Yelp
I had a feeling this place would be excellent and it did not disappoint in terms of quality and flavor. I highly recommend trying this place. Ox tails, goat. It's amazing.

Frankie H.

Yelp
Great customer service We tried the small oxtail and curry goat both came with rice/beans, cabbage and plantains. Very good in taste and both meats are tender. Love the cabbage! I wanted the vegetable meat pattie but they only had beef and chicken on hand so I got beef. Nice amount of meat and flaky crust...yum. Also got the sorrel juice that has a kick of ginger. I loved it so much I brought an additional one to go. The cucumber one was a bit too sweet for me.

Ashley C.

Yelp
Every time I go to this location instead of the location on 1960 I regret it.cabbage so hard you can't eat it barely out juice on the rice

Christina A.

Yelp
So this is your typical hole in the wall Jamaican spot. The decor is to be desired. Typical Jamaican flag painted by the bar and ripped upholstery of bar stools. When walking in I noticed multiple tables that haven't been bussed . I mean I was getting To go but it just wasn't a pleaser site. The service is average. The front desk lady answers your questions take you payment shows your food gives your food. No real connection just business which is fine The food. It was good nothing to go crazy about. I did like the Beef Patties a lot ! It was delicious ! The jerk chicken had a kick to it , the rice and peas were okay I've had better . The plantains didn't seems fresh or maybe they just were sitting out from before just wasn't as fresh as the other food. Steamed cabbage was good. Overall it was a solid 3.

Nycole A.

Yelp
These women are SO dam rude..it doesn't even matter who's working that day..their ALL rude..like sheesh say thank u have a good night .thank u for your business ..smile for crying out loud..there jerk chicken is good but it's not that good for that type of service ! Mac n cheese always out of stock . They make u feel like they are doing YOU a favor.. I've been going here for a few months now and it never fails ..they def won't be getting anymore of my hard earned money ..gotta find me a new spot now

Tramond B.

Yelp
Really really good caribbean cuisine. I've had the brown stew chicken and jerk chicken lunch plates. They give you lots of food for a really good price. I'm only here to leave a review because today, 4/14/2022, somebody had to have made a mistake and put 5 extra scotch bonnet peppers in the jerk chicken. It's usually the perfect heat level but my lips and stomach are currently on fire. Send help!!
