The Best Montreal Caribbean Restaurants | Eater Montreal

"The borough of LaSalle has a significant West Indian population, well served here with a hefty menu of regional faves. For lively domino tournament action, this is the place, if not their traditional Guyanese-Chinese side menu with stir-fried options to boot." - JP Karwacki

Caribbean Paradise is a great spot for simple, delicious meals and takeout. We stopped by on a weekend evening and found it to be pretty quiet, but that didn't deter us from enjoying our food. We tried the Hakka Noodles and Jerk Chicken, both of which were tasty and satisfying. While it didn't blow us away, the food was good and hit the spot. If you're in the area and craving Caribbean flavors, it's worth checking out.

One of the Worst Roti Experiences Ever I ordered the chicken and goat roti from this place and was thoroughly disappointed. The roti skin was raw, doughy, and thick — clearly undercooked. Inside, there was barely any meat, just a bunch of potatoes swimming in watery sauce. It tasted like the meat was microwaved straight from a fridge — soggy and lifeless. I called to share my concerns and was shocked to find out the rude, dismissive person on the phone was one of the owners. No accountability, just complete unprofessionalism. I've had amazing roti from many places before, so I know what it's supposed to be like — and this wasn't even close. Would not recommend to anyone save your money.

Been here multiple times. Great Trini & Hakka food, ordered catering for Father’s Day and it was a hit. s/o to the owner who came in on Sunday to do the order. All the food was hot and fresh. Everything tasted amazing. We also got Curry Goat which isn’t in the photos but that was also delicious. We got Hakka noodles, mixed vegetables, and Pholourie. Some of the best pholourie I’ve had in Canada, tastes really good! Will keep coming back, great place!!

Came here a few times already to get roti, palouri and doubles. Loved it every time! The owner is super friendly and service is quick. Kids love the food as well. We like how generous they are with portions and meat quality in roties (we tried chicken and beef). Thank you, we will surely visit again!

I finally discovered my favourite Caribbean/Hakka restaurant to go in Newmarket. The owner was very nice and polite, and at a great price, so much food that was too heavy to lift. Everything was very delicious and hot sauce was amazing. I cannot wait to try other menus to like them!

Order Caribbean Paradise for the second time and for the second time received cold, dry and hard days old chicken on top of my noddles. The sesame chicken was dry and very poorly prepared/ cooked. When called to speak to manger he refused to acknowledge or take accountability for the food he served/ made. This food was clearly left out all day or day old food reheated. Poor customer service and not good food at all. Do not try this place at all save yourself the money such a waste of 100$. Never will return. This is the worse Caribbean restaurant in Newmarket, owner is definitely not trying to cater to Caribbean people food.

The doubles had a sweet taste of maybe tamarind in it, not bad but not my preference and didn't give me option to deselect. The channa and aloo also had a sweet taste to it. Definitely not the Trini style i am used to. Weird masala, maybe cinnamon? Not sure. The chilli paneer had no discernable chilli flakes or thai peppers. Good if you are starving. The roti was surprisingly good. The curry tasted more Guyanese than Trini. Good food. The veggie Hakka noodles had a very generous serving of fresh vegetables in it.

Google
Been there twice, first time it so bland (thought it was an off day) went again it is bad.. Will never buy again. Only giving two stars because they seem genuinely nice but the food is low quality. As seen in the image, was biting into chicken which was firstly full of breading, barely any chicken, however, another time just bite into a ball of cornstarch.. it was so unpleasant.

Yelp
One of my favourite food places in Newmarket. Always servicing fresh delicious food. I love their homemade pepper sauce. It's soooo good. I wish they packaged and sold it. The service is amazing. The people are always so sweet and nice. The ambiance is more a take out than a dine in. My usual is the Carribean chicken fried rice or the noodles.and if I'm adventurous I order the mixed. I love the chicken pakoras. So delicious.

Yelp
I expected more out of this Caribbean dining spot. In their defense, it was branded or marketed as Caribbean Hakka instead of just purely a Caribbean eatery. My order of the Jerk chicken meal came with plain white rice instead of what I have come to expect out of a Caribbean place, which is long gran, Carribean rice with peas. The jerk chicken was also among the worst I've had. The meat was not tender, and it tasted too salty. I could not make out too much of the spice and seasonings. It felt more of the soy sauce was used than needed, so it ended up overwhelming all the other flavor ingredients.

Yelp
Got delivery this time. Large seafood soup was pretty tasty. It had crab flavoured fish stick, small shrimp & cut up squid, egg, tofu, carrot, green onion & peas. It was a thick soup but got watery pretty fast. Spicy garlic tiger prawns was ok. There was nothing much going on with the sauce: it was just spicy with some garlic, without the characteristic umami punch of Indian Chinese food. If the prawns had been crispy when put in the gravy, they were soggy by the time I got my food. The doubles still tasted great (with the delicious chickpea curry inside) as before: they were just not crispy but with delivery this was expected.

Yelp
Had their chicken roti. It was ok but not great. Little on the bland side. I prefer a more stewy curry in my roti.

Yelp
I've never made a post before regarding restaurants but this is funny. I a person born in the caribbeans find this pathetic "Caribbean paradise" but the menu caters to middle eastern because the establishment is middle eastern, nowhere on the menu can you find oaxtail with rice and peas. if it's not Caribbean say so change the name to "eastern's pararise" or somethin.

Yelp
Had a craving for Hakka food, and decided to give this place a shot. There weren't many pictures on here, but the menu looked enticing. FOOD: Even though we ordered via delivery, the items were still warm and appropriately crispy when they arrived. The Caribbean Fried Rice was decent, perhaps overshadowed by the much more flavourful dishes we also ordered. The Veg stir-fry was on point, and came with a nice variety of vegetables (broccoli, red pepper, bok choy, baby corn, and celery). The Ginger Chicken in gravy was as good as hoped, and unlike similar places actually had CHICKEN in the chicken...So it wasn't just fried batter like a lot of places do it. The Spicy Ginger Beef kept its promise of spiciness, and the strips of beef were tender as well. Needed some of the accompanying white rice to go with this. The star of the show for me though was the Chicken Pakora - the batter was fried just right, and stayed crispy despite the hot sauce drenched over it, which also complimented it well. As mentioned, all of the serving sizes were fair. VERDICT: There's still many items on the fairly diverse menu that sound good, so I will definitely try this place again.

Yelp
Love their chicken roti!! The roti itself is fluffy and chewy, not the grainy kind! Always ask for extra sauce inside!

Yelp
Always great service & amazing food! My family and I always come to Caribbean Paradise when we get together. I must say, we are never disappointed & always look forward to coming back!

Yelp
Popped over at lunch for some doubles and haka noodles. I must say I loved it all. I am sitting at my desk at work and in food coma. It was delicious. The doubles were tasty and the right amount of spice where it was flavorful not too hot and the wrap was perfect. I could have eaten at least 4 more. The Caribbean Haka noodles were delicious. A good mix of shrimp chicken and beef. Well seasoned and spice with the right amount of kick. The service was extremely quick Friendly and polite. They are going to see a lot of me moving forward.

Yelp
5th time I ordered today. Consistently good. Szechuan chicken, chili beef, hakka noodles, fried rice all good.

Kent K.

Yelp
Love their Chili Chicken and their crispy beef. We need to try some of their other dishes but chili chicken is my favourite Hakka dish so we get it every time. Their's rivals Lucky's, Federicks or Tangerine but don't have to drive to Scarborough or Markham.

Yelp
Service is amazing the food is amazing, the fish is to die for. Best doubles I've ever had, the veggie Hakka noodle is delicious, I really can't say enough about the good prices and delicious food, my whole family enjoys it, Fair prices and utterly delicious food like the chilli fish or the spicy chilli fish.

Jim M.

Yelp
Ordered the beef haka noodles. Worst I've ever had. Very little flavour. My guess is because there was hardly any beef and vegetables...all noodles. Lots and lots of noodles. "Where's the beef". Where the veggies. Lots of money $12 for a box of noodles, that probably cost 50 cents. Not good value for your money.
