The vibe as soon as you walk in is really laid back. It's kind of dark, the bar is in the middle of the place, and there's candles on the tables. I had a good feeling about it, but the rest of the experience didn't live up to it. I started with a Paloma to drink, which was good. Started with the Carina flatbread, which had whole roasted garlic and two dipping sauces, a pesto and a spicy marinara. This was the best part of the experience for me, so maybe I'd go back for an appetizer and a drink?
Unfortunately, there really isn't anything else great to add. I ordered the goat cheese ravioli, which sits in a brown buttered cream sauce and is topped with fried shallots. I was SO excited. I ordered without pancetta, since I'm pescatarian, and they were happy to accommodate. The first bite was really good, the richness of the brown butter seemingly cut by the tart goat cheese. I was pleased until I took more bites of my pasta, realizing that ravioli only filled with goat cheese is just far too rich. It must absolutely need the pancetta to balance everything out. As a pescatarian, that really only leaves the margarita pizza and the salmon as options. This place is a little out of the way for me and wasn't so great that I'd go out of my way for it again. If my husband said his food was exceptional, I'd totally give it another shot, but he wasn't thrilled either. He said the lasagna was also too rich.
Our waitress was really nice, but barely checked in on us. The cherry on top of it all is the fact that we chose to order the flourless chocolate cake for dessert and then sat for over 30 minutes waiting for it and no one checked in on us once. Turns out, after a 35 minute wait, our order was never actually placed. At that point, we chose to forgo the dessert, paid the bill, and left.
Not a great experience all around, so I won't be back. Hopefully you have a better time! And this is owned by the same person who owns Todo (and if you haven't been there yet, go check it out because it's stellar).
