The Best Coffee Shops in Vancouver, Washington | Eater Portland

"Sisters Melissa Mancillas and Janelle Almanza recently opened this downtown coffee shop to celebrate their Mexican heritage. Their elegant take on café de olla, as well as fresh baked conchas and sincronizadas, hand-made tortillas filled with ham and cheese served with hot sauce from a family recipe, have quickly made this shop a local favorite." - Rachel Pinsky

Amazing! Yummy coffee. And finally—a coffee house that gives free refills on drip coffee! Most don’t. Unfortunately, but on purpose, they have no artificial sweeteners and dang it—I like Splenda. But it’s a “pro” for most people, not a con, because it’s all about natural and organic ingredients at this place! I talked to the owner and she explained that everything they serve is clean and/or organic. They make their own tortillas (organic; expensive flour). She said that she doesn’t serve anything she wouldn’t give her own children. They have many mocha variations. Their Mexican Mocha is one of the best in Vancouver. They have a few food options, including a VERY yummy avacado toast (check out my pictures). And the interior is bright and trendy, but some find it a little overly visually stimulating. Lots of seats, lots of wood—a big space with a little event room attached. Overall, pretty awesome. But no Splenda! Lastly, if you come here, be SURE to talk to Melissa (she co-owns it with her sister Janelle) because she will tell you all about everything. She’s awesome.

The horchata latte was delicious without being overly sweet. I could taste the quality of the coffee 👌🏾 which I’m not surprised by, because México arguably has the highest quality coffee in the world, due to the high elevations where it’s grown. Coffee is Mexico’s best kept agricultural secret ! The cafe is super cute too 🥰

I’ve always enjoyed coffee, mostly for the pick me up, but I feel like I’ve rediscovered coffee it at Cariño. I’m lucky to work a block away and have gone from enjoy the effect of coffee to enjoying the taste and experience when I get coffee at Cariño. Their whole team is beyond nice and every drink is delicious. I can’t recommend trying and supporting this gem right on Main Street downtown Vancouver. You’ll be glad you did!

Came here with friends to get started with the day. We were all very pleased and enjoyed our time here. One of the nicest coffee shops so far!

First time here, and I will definitely be coming back. I was drawn to come in because I heard they had a coffee flight, but I did not see it on the online menu. I asked and they pointed out the paper sign indicating the mocha flight flavors. I ordered and they got to work crafting pure magic. Every cup was bliss, but my favorite by far was the sweet orange. The chocolatey mocha and coffee flavors tasted high quality. Best I've ever had. Mmmmmm I'll be back very soon for more.

This is my new favorite spot!! I’m so happy I found a place with such high quality lattes! I highly recommend, their house latte is incredible. I can’t wait to try one of everything😊

Google
Beautiful and spacious new (to me) coffee shop in Vancouver! I’m a harsh critic when it comes to lattes and rarely go somewhere new but this place did not disappoint! The latte was delicious and I’d definitely come back and try different fun drinks. They also have a case of pan dulce that I’d like to come back and try. I came on a Monday morning and by 10:30 it was pretty full! Because the space is so open, it was pretty echo-ey, and the conversation volume feels amplified. It’s not a big deal, lively vibes are great, but if you’re going there to enjoy coffee while working you may want to consider bringing headphones! It’s a beautiful space and I can’t wait to see how they continue to grow!

Dirty horchata w|espresso was exactly what we needed driving from California! Hearing such good reviews this coffeehouse had to be a pitstop on our road trip! Owner Melissa so sweet and welcoming, the atmosphere was beautiful and as the kids call it “a vibe“ definitely will be coming back on our next road trip!

Yelp
I have mixed feelings - we've tried 3 different pastries and didn't care for any of them. Found them to either be dry or lacking in flavor or both. The hot horchata latte was lacking in espresso flavor, so might be good if you don't want to "taste coffee" the americano was weak, even with an extra shot. however, the Habanero Mocha is to die for. the chocolate quality is wonderful and the spice is perfect. I will come back for this time and time again. I am hoping there will be a change in the kind of espresso they use and that they increase the amount of shots per size (I believe they just do 2 shots no matter the size)

Yelp
I wanted to love this place. It's beautifully decorated with a cool vibe and super friendly service. I was excited to taste a Mexican specialty latte. Unfortunately, my Dirty Horchata coffee was watery and bland. The foam looked and tasted good nice and fluffy however, once I got past that my coffee tasted artificial. I am not an expert but I am guessing this is not the flavor profile they are going for. Typically, a watery horchata coffee likely means you're not getting enough flavor extraction from either the coffee grounds or the horchata mix. I am hoping since the shop is new they are still working out the best mix ratio. My husband ordered a vanilla latte which was delicious, rich and creamy with a bold coffee forward flavor. He raved about it and he is pretty picky. I hope this isn't a missed opportunity because there are a lot of really good coffee shops in downtown Vancouver but only one Mexican specialty coffee shop. My fingers are crossed they get it figured out.

Yelp
I was really excited to check out this coffee shop, but after coming here and ordering the dirty horchata, I should have passed and never spent any money here. My drink tasted very watery and had no horchata essence of flavor. I would have rather had an iced americano from anywhere else, that would have tasted better than the drink I got here. I ended up tossing my drink although I had waited over 30 minutes and took only a few sips. For a coffee shop, my drink took way too long. I feel bad for the ONE person they had making all the drinks- especially when there was a consistent line of customers waiting to order inside. The interior is very clean and pretty, but a little empty as well. Layout is a little weird, so while it was busy I wasn't sure where to stand in line or wait for my order. The line or customers waiting for orders blocked the door to enter/exit, so that was a little inconvenient as well.

Yelp
Baristas were so nice and the dirty horchata was amazing! Wasn't the biggest fan of Mexican mocha but it was still good. Pastries in case looked so good. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I met the owner at a SCORE event. We received cookies from the coffeehouse and they were delicious and huge! I don't get to Vancouver very often since I live in Central Oregon but I will make every effort to get coffee and a cookie when I am there.

Yelp
One of the BEST mochas I have ever had! Not overly sweet with the perfect amount of bitter chocolate taste. I had their special for winter - the peppermint mocha w/ fresh whip. I totally recommend this coffee shop!

Yelp
Nice ambiance. Very friendly. Not many choices. The pastry was stale. The breakfast tortilla was tasty. I thought it was pricey. 3 coffee drinks and 2 breakfast tortillas and one pastry (including tip) was about $60. Not sure if I'll be back.

Yelp
Cariño Coffeehouse is my new favorite place to meet friends for coffee. It's beautiful and spacious and every coffee I have tried from their Mexican specialty menu has been as beautiful as the cafe itself! The cafe owners and staff have all been very friendly and informative about their menu. The habanero mocha is as spicy as I imagined, but it was a well-balanced combination and treat. My son loved the concha sweet bread that he tried too. I look forward to going back and trying their house made horchata. Wonderful addition to downtown Vancouver!

Yelp
Love this beautiful, light filled cafe with friendly staff and delicious coffee. They have WIFI, it's spacious with big windows and colorful art. Gender-neutral bathrooms. Nice vibe. Hope they add some GF treats to their menu. Loved my latte.

Yelp
Excellent Dirty Horchata coffee and seasonal La Menta Mocha. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I don't leave many reviews, but this place is deserves the love. It's the best coffee shop in this neck of the woods, hands down. Believe me when I say, a serious benefit of my job is working right across from them!

Traci M.

Yelp
Excellent Mexican Mocha with peppermint whip cream. Very clean and super friendly service.

Yelp
Ordered the Horchata, tastes nothing like it should be. Not even a hint of cinnamon or rice flavor, tastes like a pre box powder. Please improve. I was so excited to try out the cafe. Not a single pan either which is disappointing.
