Carlotta, a glam Italian spot where the design brief must have simply been ‘more’, is the latter. Sprawl out on oxblood leather at the lavish Marylebone hideout as bowtie-wearing waiters spoon fettuccine alfredo into your Gucci-esque bowl. "Carlotta is unapologetically over the top. Big booths, big ego, big diva energy. This Italian spot is busy with people taking pictures of themselves in all the mirrored surfaces and the more-is-more space. Some of the dishes are hit and miss, so our go-to is the creamy fettuccine alfredo al tartufo for two. But the dramatic interiors and bathroom taps straddled by a virgin Mary statue are a not-so-subtle hint that you’re not really here for the food—it’s a Big Mamma spot, after all. "Carlotta serves a dramatic wedding cake dessert, but it’s the bridesmaid in our power rankings, not the bride. Which is fitting for a spot that feels like it’d turn up late to your wedding and make out with the groom's dad. It gives big diva energy. There are hosts wearing expensive-looking satin jumpsuits, oxblood leather booths, and photos of the founders' family weddings—the kind that have artful filters and chic couples with cigarettes hanging out of their mouths. It’s also got the best Big Mamma toilets, complete with a virgin Mary presiding over the wash basins. Try and get a seat upstairs at this Marylebone spot because downstairs—with its futuristic, curved shiny walls—you run the risk of feeling like an extra in Star Trek." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"Every person and their TikTok has an opinion on the Big Mamma restaurants. But in Carlotta—their Marylebone-meets-Goodfellas fever dream—you’ve got somewhere that transcends a perfect bowl of pasta. Or, for that matter, taste. Pink silk drapes line the room and photos of leathery-looking wise guys hang from the wall. "Everything at Carlotta is big: the booths, the diva energy, and the Italian dishes. Dolce & Gabbana-esque bowls come heaving with caesar salad and delicious wedding cake. Our favourite pasta at this Marylebone spot—the fettuccine alfredo al tartufo—is served by a waiter who takes on the role of Rafiki and spoons the pasta skyward from a large pan. You could go all Lady and the Tramp and share it, but we’ve taken down plenty of these bowls solo.
