Carlotta in Marylebone unapologetically flaunts its big booths and diva energy, creating a lavish backdrop for fun Italian feasts and Instagram moments.
"Carlotta serves a dramatic wedding cake dessert, but it’s the bridesmaid in our power rankings, not the bride. Which is fitting for a spot that feels like it’d turn up late to your wedding and make out with the groom's dad. It gives big diva energy. There are hosts wearing expensive-looking satin jumpsuits, oxblood leather booths, and photos of the founders' family weddings—the kind that have artful filters and chic couples with cigarettes hanging out of their mouths. It’s also got the best Big Mamma toilets, complete with a virgin Mary presiding over the wash basins. Try and get a seat upstairs at this Marylebone spot because downstairs—with its futuristic, curved shiny walls—you run the risk of feeling like an extra in Star Trek." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"Every person and their TikTok has an opinion on the Big Mamma restaurants. But in Carlotta—their Marylebone-meets-Goodfellas fever dream—you’ve got somewhere that transcends a perfect bowl of pasta. Or, for that matter, taste. Pink silk drapes line the room and photos of leathery-looking wise guys hang from the wall. Slide into a red leather booth, order a Negroni, and play with your truffle tagliolini as iPhone flashes dance from table to table." - jake missing, daisy meager, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley
"Don’t lie. Your dog’s seen your worst hangovers, notably the time you streamed Selling Sunset on a park bench in the rain while sincerely considering a Lily’s Kitchen Bedtime Biscuit. And now, they’ll have that profound opportunity to see that magic once more, thanks to this unapologetically OTT Italian trattoria in Marylebone. Expect big booths, big cocktails, and big meringue sprinklings on the must-order ‘wedding cake’. Carlotta is loud and lavish, much like its sibling Big Mamma restaurants Circolo Popolare, Gloria, and Ave Mario, which are all dog-friendly too." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"Say what you want about the Big Mamma restaurants—and we have, we ranked them—but these Italian trattorias know how to throw a party. Carlotta is one of our favourites thanks to its big booths, big ego, and big diva energy. Last year, a more-is-more Christmas meet-up at this Marylebone spot involved langoustine and crab risotto, a yule log—supersized, with spiced cinnamon and nutmeg—and tipsy selfies with the virgin mary statue in the bathroom. It’s worth knowing that previously sister spot Ave Mario has done a truffle-stuffed burrata over the festive period." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"Carlotta is unapologetically over the top. Big booths, big ego, big diva energy. This Italian spot in Marylebone is busy with people taking pictures of themselves in all the mirrored surfaces and the more-is-more, lavish space. Some of the dishes are hit and miss, so our go-to is the creamy fettuccine alfredo al tartufo for two. But the dramatic interiors and bathroom taps straddled by a virgin Mary statue are a not-so-subtle hint that you’re not really here for the food. Just make sure you don’t leave without trying the wedding cake, it’s delicious." - rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, sinead cranna
