"Restaurante Carmen Carmen lies at the crossroads where quality, creativity, and sustainability (plus every other big-city culinary trend) meet. The namesake proprietress, alongside musician husband Rob Pevitts (both San Francisco Cordon Bleu graduates), is the genius who imported the restaurant’s California-sybarite style to Cartagena. She also brought a passion for everything that comes from the sea, and even imported her father, who’s responsible for serving up crab, lobster, fish, and octopus in line with standards he picked up on his many travels in New York and Japan. Carmen Restaurant in Cartagena delivered an incredible dining experience from start to finish. The service was exceptional — the staff took time to explain each dish as it was served, adding a personal and educational touch that really elevated the evening. They also surprised us with several small dishes on the house, which made the meal feel even more special. We sat outside near the tree, and it was the perfect setting — romantic, peaceful, and beautifully designed with lush greenery all around. The weather was ideal, and there were no issues with bugs thanks to fans providing a gentle, cool breeze. The food was outstanding. We started with the tostadas (beautifully presented and flavorful) and seafood empanadas (crispy, perfectly seasoned, and filled with a delicious mix of seafood). For our mains, the solomito steak was perfectly cooked and full of flavor, and the grilled fish was equally impressive — tender and bursting with taste. They even finished the meal with a complimentary small dessert. Their cocktails were also a highlight — balanced, creative, and beautifully presented. The restaurant offers both 7- and 9-course tasting menus, which we’d love to try next time. Between the exceptional service, amazing food, and beautiful atmosphere, Carmen is a must-visit in Cartagena.

The Best Restaurant in Cartagena Carmen Cartagena is, without a doubt, the best restaurant in the city. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere just felt special. You can tell the whole team truly loves what they do—there’s this warmth and positive energy that makes the entire experience unforgettable. The hostess welcomed us with such kindness and made us feel at home right away. And our waiter… wow. I’m so sad I don’t remember his name because he deserves a raise. Honestly, he deserves to be highlighted as Employee of the Year. I even took a screenshot from a video when he brought out the gin drink he recommended, because HE TRULY deserves the compliments. From the bottom of my heart. (Perdón, mi rey, por no tener una mejor foto!) He was lively, enthusiastic, and full of thoughtful suggestions the entire night. His passion for the menu—and for making sure we had the best experience—really stood out. And on top of that, he was incredibly careful and accommodating with my gluten-free needs, which means so much to me as someone with celiac disease. And the food… WOW. The flavors were layered so beautifully it felt like a whole 4D experience. The dishes were creative, unexpected, and absolutely delicious. They even surprised us with small treats between courses, like pan de yuca (so Colombiano ♥️) and an additional dessert. I left completely impressed and would come back to Cartagena just to eat here again. If you’re unsure and you’ve stumbled across this review—go. You will NOT be disappointed, I promise. De entradas ordenamos: - Ceviche - Pulpo - Shrooms Platos fuertes: - No me llames Cazuela - NY strip Postre - One of a kind, because they tweaked it for me because of the gluten allergy. It was coconut based gelato. Bebibas - Agua con gas michelada - Sortilegio - Bambuco

We had a wonderful experience during our visit. Our waiter, Liz, provided exceptional service from start to finish. She was incredibly friendly, professional, and attentive to every detail. Liz took the time to carefully understand our dietary requirements, and made sure everything was perfect for us. The food was delicious and definitely worth the price, great quality and beautifully presented. Overall, we left extremely satisfied and would happily return. Highly recommended!

I want to start, by highlighting the service that we received. The employees in this establishment are professional, welcoming, knowledgeable and provided us with one of the best nights we had in Cartagena. People need to understand that these establishments are located in prime real estate, where prices must be high to support operating expenses and maintaining quality. Come prepared to spend some money, but be ready to leave with an incredible culinary experience. Options were recommended and explained thoroughly, and although we were skeptical as we heard the combination of ingredients, the moment we took our first bite we realized the kitchen knew what it was doing. Every plate that came out thereafter was a great combination of local flavours that left us satisfied. Drinks, appetizers, mains and deserts were all presented and garnished so nicely. I recommend you try the empanadas, and the Pez Palma, or the Posta which were recommended to us, but we had originally decided on before the staff recommended it to us and this just solidified our decision. Overall, a well rounded experience that I honestly have nothing to complain about. Thank you Carmen, until we are back in Cartagena

We stumbled onto Carmen Cartagena while on our honeymoon and it was one of those magical experiences that we will remember for the rest of our lives. The food and drinks were out of this world. Of special interest were the banana and coffee raviolis, as well as the hollandaise sauce made with monkey-pod seeds, but everything we tasted was absolutamente fenomenal. Truly, one of the very best meals of my entire life. Del corazón, mil gracias a Juan Carlos y los chefs de Carmen Cartagena for sharing their love of great food and flavors with us.

We found Carmen through guidebook recommendations, and wow, it absolutely lived up to the hype! The dishes were outstanding: flavorful, creative, and unlike anything you’ll find elsewhere. The cocktails were beautiful and expertly crafted, and the staff was friendly and attentive. We didn’t have a reservation, so we sat at the bar; and honestly, it was perfect! Watching the bartenders work their magic added to the whole vibe, and the music created a great atmosphere. The place is elegant and gets busy, so I highly recommend making a reservation. If you love delicious cuisine with a modern, unique twist, Carmen is a must-visit in Cartagena.

Located in the old city (centro). This place has a very chill ambience. There are lots of tastefully decorating plants, and the music was a vibe. The wine selection was not that great but decent enough. Very friendly staff, really helpful and attentive. I MUST say, the food is OUTSTANDING. Maybe one of the best meals I've had in Cartagena, but then again, I've never had a bad meal in this city! 😂

We all fully enjoyed the dining experience. The entradas, Ensalada Caribe and Pulpo were also great. We were a group of nine on this night and would definitley recommend to others.
