13 Game-Filled Bars Around D.C. | Eater DC

"The long-standing Arlington watering hole has relocated to a spacious spot in Fairfax. You can find pool, shuffleboard, darts, arcade games, and Skee-Ball. Its weekday happy hour from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. slashes appetizer prices by $3, and rail drinks are $3.50. And select microbrews are $5 all night." - Tierney Plumb

Such a fun spot to hang out with my coworkers after hours in VA. Loved the games and atmosphere. Bartenders were friendly, prices affordable, food was fresh, and the patio was a great social spot with lots of seating. Definitely will return on my next trip to VA! Glad I kept my game cards 😊

My friends and I enjoyed the 99 cent wings and happy hour drinks. However, I was sad that the employee gave lots of attention to my friend's dog and ignored mine. I am not sure if I will come here again with my dog.

Had a great time. Had great food! On the noisy side, so if you're into that, this is the place for you. It was lively when I was there. I got the feeling that it's this way most of the time. If I lived in the area I would definitely be back.

I'm not a huge fan of bars but this place is pretty nice. Bartenders are really really great and provide great service. The food so far, I've just had chicken fingers but really good chicken fingers and fries. Was there on a Saturday evening and they were a bunch of younger kids there playing the arcade games. Cool to see they are friendly to the littles.

Great beer selection, and lots of fun things to play

Loads of beers and other goodies to pick from. Immense list. I like a good stout or porter and they easily had 25+ on the menu with several solid choices on tap. I ordered a breakfast burger, rare, with egg over easy, asked to double up and got exactly what I ordered. Good crew behind the bar, solid burger experience as well.

Great place for your hangouts. The vibe is nice, great options of activities such as pool, darts, pinballs... Decent bar foods and drinks options and specially the $ is very resonable for you hangouts with friends.

Carpool is so much fun! There are so many good games to chose from and a great atmosphere. They have a wide selection of brewskies and drinks as well. My friends and I had a great time!

Yelp
Burger Review: The Fat Elvis Is King! I came here purely for a gathering of friends not planning to eat but after peeking at their menu and seeing their burger options I felt the need to try them out. Lots of options but the one that really stood out to me was one called "Fat Elvis", which comes stacked with American and cheddar cheese, spicy candied bacon, banana compote, and peanut butter. Yes, you read that right--peanut butter. This ain't my first rodeo trying peanut on a burger so trust me when I say somehow, it totally works. The sweet-and-savory combo is bold, a little outrageous, and absolutely delicious. The banana compote adds a warm, caramelized depth, the bacon brings a little heat and crunch, and the peanut butter ties it all together in the richest, most unexpected way. The patties themselves were juicy and cooked just right, and the bun held everything together without getting soggy. Bonus points for the generous portion--it's a two-hander for sure. I opted for a side salad instead of fries (balance, right?) and even that was fresh and full of color, topped with shredded cheese, red onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, and crunchy croutons. The ranch dressing was a little thin and not quite as creamy as I'm used to but was good. Check out my photos if you want a visual warning of what you're getting into. Spoiler: it's a glorious mess, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. If you're into Elvis, wild flavor combos, or just love a burger that dares to be different, you need to try this. Side note: ended up ordering a bunch more food to go that I didn't get pictures of, wife got a CYO burger she devoured, I ordered some of their tacos which while a little pricey, the portion size and flavor of the quesabirria ones made up for it, even tried out some of their wings with the smoked lemon pepper dry rub and we're pretty solid even warmed up the next day. Lots of food options and may end up going back sometime to try some more things out. Service was great as well, place was jam packed but they had plenty of staff to stay attentive and keep things moving.

Yelp
Plenty of parking outside the front. The service is great. The food is bar food ( fries, wings, burgers). Great music inside. A super chill bar to hang out with friends and have a great time. Never any issues. Never seen a fight. And staff and security guards are super helpful.

Yelp
Went here for a company happy hour recently. I didn't even know Carpool was still around. Used to frequent this location ages ago. It was pretty empty when we arrived (early around 4pm). It started filling up with people closer to 6pm though. Food is typical bar food. The mixed drinks however could've used some help. It seemed like they used the same mixer for all the mixed drinks whether you ordered a margarita, a mai tai or a lemon drop. They all seemed to come out with the same color. *shrug*

Yelp
A typical neighborhood bar with the usual variety of bar offerings: food (burgers, wings, nachos, etc.), a good variety of beers on draft, wine, etc. A few pool tables and a dart area - Great for groups, happy hour, or just kickback at the bar. There is a decent outdoor seating facing the side parking lot. Friendly bartenders. This bar has been around for a long time and truly a classic American bar that I love to hangout at every now and then.

Yelp
I came here to watch a World Cup game with some friends. They had a big selection of beer and hard alcohol. The food menu is bar food. This place is not fancy. It's more of a sports dive bar. It has a run down kinda charm. Things are run down but it's a great place to catch a game and a drink. You have a lot of options of bar games like darts, pool, ski ball, and other games.

Yelp
Oh my goodness Friday was my first time eating here and I had a blast. I have worked near this place for ages and never ran across it into a recently. The food they serve is surprisingly good and they have a vast menu of drinks. We were able to play billiards darts, and they had a couple of other table games. A great place to go and hang out with friends.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cute fun place to eat or drink from the bar. Loved the atmosphere. They have board games, darts, billiards, giant connect tour, giant jenga, and more games along with plenty of televisions all around. The menu is extensive too. Discounted happy hour appetizers plus plenty of burgers, wings, and bar food. The fried pickles are very different The batter tastes like the batter at Long John Silver's but better. I don't want to make it sound cheap. They don't taste cheap. They're good. The service was great. This is a fun, casual place to go. Loved it!

Yelp
These Guys are Amazing! I visited them almost every night of my Visit on Capitol Hill. The Drafts are Well Prepared and The people who work at the BAR are Friendly and Easy to Speak with. Ricky, and Mr. James provided me with Unforgettably great Hospitality. I recommend this Place for Auto-Mobile Enthusiasts, as that sorta is the Theme surrounded by Pool Tables and Arcade machines. Happy Hour is on Point; with great Snack Foods. I would not call them a DIVE BAR, I believe that since they have been in business for so many years that they have a higher standard outside of getting paying customers as drunk as possible. I'm going to continue to personally recommend this Place to my neighbors upon my next extended stay in Herndon- Reston.

Yelp
Always a good time & the food is always exactly what you order. Good serve nice people and chill vibe.

Yelp
Really nice bar tenders! And lots of activities. I loved coming here with my crazy brother to play pool

Yelp
The nachos are the best we'd ever had and we're kind of connoisseurs, as we have it just about everywhere they're on the menu......and we eat out a lot! Drink menu is extensive- lots of creativity. My husband is the beer guy and he was totally impressed. The two staff members were so friendly, attentive and accommodating. Ask for Ricky and Theresa when you go! The ambiance is nice. I saw reviews that it was a dive, but I didn't see that. I've been to dive bars and this place was not one in my opinion! **Our first time and we will be back!**

Yelp
I usually don't frequent very many places because there's just so much in the area to try. This bar is a small exception! It stands out to me for a couple of reasons: 1. I mention gluten-free dietary restrictions in a lot of my reviews so love this place for giving me dozens of alcohol choices 2. Yes, it is designated as a pool hall on yelp. Yet, the games go beyond just pool; they also offer shuffleboard at an hourly rate, darts, skee ball, and a handful of arcade games. I am not usually picky with bar food; I have to mention that I've ordered grilled chicken with my salad two or three times and each time it came back very dry. The dressing did not make it easier to eat.

Yelp
Great service, super friendly staff and attentive. Food is bar food and therefore very greasy.
google avatar

Yelp
Great casual bar in Herndon. Location is convenient and much bigger than it looks from the outside. Bartenders are friendly and make decent drinks. We did not order any food during our visit so maybe something to try out next time.

Yelp
I came here for a good time and to enjoy my Friday night. I came in with a party of 6 and some of us weren't going to drink, since some of us are driving. While we were playing with one of their games , one of the bartenders rudely came up to us and told us we had to buy something or get out. Will not be coming back ever. I usually never write bad reviews, but the customer service here to me was awful. Did not make me feel welcome at all. This is one of my only bad reviews and I kinda feel bad. But not really. To the bartender who treated us poorly, there is a way to come across respectful and you didn't do that. I understand that it is your job, but treat others how you wanted to be treated.
google avatar

Julian P.

Yelp
Went here on a Friday night with a group of friends. While we were playing one of the games in the bar, one of the bartenders came up and rudely told us that we had to buy drinks to play the games, which I understand. HOWEVER half of the group has already purchased their drinks and when I asked if everyone had to purchase drinks to stay, he told me "Yes"... I guess people who needs to sober up before driving aren't welcomed here...

Yelp
Hidden gem in Herndon, great drinks and food and amazing lounge with bunch of games .... It's a long list ..... love this place
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
I thought the idea of a pub was to be accommodating and friendly. I obviously was mistaken. We came in as a group of thirsty co-workers and really they didn't even try. Won't be back.
google avatar

Cassy W.

Yelp
Came here for a ladies happy hour and had a great time. The bar was very accommodating to our large-ish group and came to check in on us pretty often. Drinks also came out really quickly. As others noted there are pool tables and darts, a few arcade games and it looked like a group was playing giant beer pong with a volleyball and gallon painters buckets. There are some seating areas with couches, indoor high tops, bar seating, and a large outdoor patio. I would definitely say this is more of a "dive" bar, but it's nice, clean, and has good service!

Yelp
Great hole in the wall place to relax after a hard day work. Cold beer and great atmosphere!

Yelp
Love carpool, not only are their drinks great but their food is too (jalapeño poppers are spicier than i've ever had before and i'm a sucker for super spicy jalepeno peppers!), yummy cheese curds and best caesar salad i've had in awhile! Fun place to play games while you eat and drink
google avatar

Justin E.

Yelp
Solid wings and a pretty chill atmosphere makes Carpool the type of place you wanna catch a football game or have some drinks with friends for happy hour. It also has ski-ball, darts and pool to play with your friends. Always a great time and the tap list is always full of a fantastic selection.

Yelp
Came here after a birthday outing at the Herndon escape room... and was very disappointed; not entirely sure what I was expecting... something like a sports bar?! This place smells awful (unless you're into the lingering smell of cigarettes). There was a five dollar cover; the door guy said they were going to have five bands... so that's not really a negative on them because we didn't do our research. The music (If you want to call it that) was so incredibly loud it made having conversations damn near impossible. The food was ok, nothing great but it wasn't terrible. It was hard to enjoy my late dinner as every time the door opened to the patio (or whatever is out there) it smelled like cigarette smoke. The server was kinda attentive; not incredibly friendly, but competent in doing her job. The guy who brought the food and cleared the plates was much nicer/friendlier. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food; Idk If that's due to to taste or just being hungry. There are tons of beer options, cider, and even some mead. I wasn't interested in any initially but my curiosity got the better of me and I ended up with a zombie killer (mead cider mix?) also what a name! The drink tasted like apple juice (total bonus for me because I like fruity drinks). Parking is unique; you have to park around the side... not a big deal but we did pull into a few spots that were reserved. I couldn't tell you about the bands; we didn't stay long enough for that. The music choice was definitely eclectic and they played all kinds of music; it was just entirely too loud for such an empty(ish) area. Beware of the bathroom; the other reviews are totally spot on with the dirty bathroom's -_-

Yelp
Is it dramatic to say this is one of my favorite places in the world? I mean seriously...my go-to girl's night hangout, happy hour with coworkers spot, and the place where I met my boyfriend 3 years ago... Carpool is incredible - the staff is so kind, accommodating, and provides great service, the food is honestly unmatched (particularly the nachos which I drive 25 miles for on the regular), and the patio is fun year round and can accommodate lots of groups - and all of this at an incredible value. I hope to be coming here forever

Yelp
Everything was great! Wings and cheese steak sandwich. Fries even were awesome!! Service great. Would highly recommend!!

Yelp
Look. It's a local bar with a great staff. Lots of regulars but not so many to make newbies unwelcome. All sorts of places to play games and watch games. Good for a group looking for games to play together. Drink pours are healthy and shots abound. Come. Have fun. Don't be a D. Laugh and tip well. It'll be your Cheers.

Yelp
Carpool has become my regular go to bar since moving to Herndon. It looks so creepy on the outside but inside it's a great laid back environment. They have lots of different arcade games and pool as well as tables and a big bar. They have pretty good drink and food specials throughout the nice. Excellent burgers and their half price burger night is one of the best deals in town. They have more craft beers on tap than anywhere in the nearby area and they're constantly rotating in new options. They carry some excellent breweries on a rotating basis including Maine Beer Co which is a personal favorite. They have an expansive can list if you don't see anything on tap. Full bar if you are craving liquor. Great bartenders too and excellent service
google avatar

Charles A.

Yelp
The beer selection is fantastic. The service is always quick/friendly. The food is typical bar food. None of the dishes stand out, but all are good, and consistently prepared. Never had any issues in many visits here. Overall it's a great happy hour spot.
google avatar

Yelp
When ordering 20 sliders seems like a good idea, you know Greg's drunk. I blame it on the awesome tequila rep who came in one weeknight and bought everyone a round of shots and margaritas. The sliders were Whitecastle quality at best anyways. Quesadilla and hot wings were marginally better, but the bison burger was the king of that pile of mediocrity. Parking here is annoying, you pretty much end up parking around the corner of the building where the other businesses haven't marked their territory. Friendly bartenders of varying attentiveness, and the couches under the TV on the far wall is a nice place to lounge. A little too dim to really read the tap handles. Not a fan of their pool tables but that's more reflective of my lack of skill than anything else. Haunted bathroom with the flickering fluorescent light over the sink. Overall this Carpool is only a good place to sit and watch a Caps game if you can overlook the rowdy kickball teams that come here to wind down or get their groove on.
google avatar

Yelp
This is starting to be my happy hour spot with friends when I'm in Herndon/Reston. I love their beer selection and their happy hour specials (honkers ale 21 oz for $5.50!) as well as their Monday wings special. Wings are delicious with great sauces and spice flavors. Other items they have that are good are their sliders, crab dip and chili cheese fries. Also love all the games too. Billiards, shuffleboard, skee ball and full sized Jenga and connect four avail for fun as well as all the tvs for sports games. Drinks, food, games and sports. It must be like heaven!
google avatar

Billy T.

Yelp
Pros: great staff, lots of places to hangout, they have TVs, games, and affordable food. Cons: Most canned/bottled beers are $10 or more (why?), the clientele is generally obnoxious and loud, and the bathrooms and some tables/games were dirty
google avatar

Danielle B.

Yelp
Such a cute place. Had a work happy hour here and will be going back! They have out door seating as well and can't wait to get back this summer.
google avatar

Victoria K.

Yelp
We had a very middle-of-the-road experience here. The pluses were: - huge beer list - yummy fried bar food - huge amount of space - lots to do- shuffle board, pool, etc. minuses - smelly, smoky interior - felt downright ignored by the bartenders and it took awhile to be acknowledged - service was slow once orders were taken I prefer the vibe and definitely the service at Jimmy's in Old Town Herndon. Carpool wouldn't be my first choice but I may return again if invited by a group.
google avatar

Yelp
I have been to the Carpool in Clarendon a few times a while back and hadn't had the opportunity to try this one yet. However, we were in the area yesterday and decided to pop in for the Eagles game. There isn't a whole lot of seating inside in the bar area, so I have a feeling the place lends itself more to games and the late night crowd than just sitting and TV watching. My group got a sampler platter and veggies to split, some beers and a couple of sammies. Overall it was a good experience. We were well taken care of; the service was actually really really good! The food was OK. The sampler was good, the veggies were cut up nothing special (nothing special=a few carrot sticks, a few zucchini sticks, a stalk or so of celery, and a couple of peppers+a side of ranch) and completely overpriced, beer is beer, and we had mixed results on the sandwiches. My Reuben was delicious, although the kitchen got confused when I wanted to swap a salad for the fries that came with it (the menu actually advertises this for an up-charge, so IDK what that was about), and they gave me both. My husband's Cheese-steak was not good. It was almost sour tasting; yuck! My BFF's sliders were OK. She said they were a little dry, but edible. So, if you want to come grab a drink and play a game (they have pool, shuffleboard, huge jenga, skeeball, corn hole-outside, golf, and a huge connect four) this is your place. If you want to grab a seat at the bar for a game, probably get there early. Either way, you are bound to have a decent time.

Yelp
Carpool is back in Arlington! Awesome place. Great beers on tap. And the food is better than I remember from when it was on Fairfax in the old days. Super local hangout.
google avatar

Brynn R.

Yelp
Local dive bar with lots of space, lots of beer, and games/pool tables available. There is also a back patio if you want to sit outside. Good place to watch sports. Sadly, no cocktail menu - but they will make you something on request. Service has been fantastic both times I've visited. Cons would be - the inside is a little poorly maintained, dim and dirty. The food is super average.
google avatar

Kiley Q.

Yelp
This place hits all the checkmarks for a nice evening out: good food, sports viewing, and pool/games (shuffle board!!!!). They have a standard American lunch/dinner menu. I have liked all of the food I've tried here! It's nothing spectacular but fixes any craving perfectly. They usually have a decent amount of beers on tap, including some from local breweries. This place is a little bit of hidden gem for breakfast, too!
google avatar

Kenneth W.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour on a Wed night. Overall, nothing special. Located in a random location that I never would have went to if my buddies haven't invited me. The best part of this venue were the games. Atmosphere was average yet fun since I came with my group. Taste: 3/5 -Average bar food Service: 3/5 -Took a few tries to get the bar tender. Though they were very prompt once I have their attention. $ Worth: 2.5/5 -Reason why only I'm only giving 2.5 stars is that I can think of many other places I would rather go than here for the same price.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
The place itself is in an office park-looking spot, but there's a larger parking area and patio out back. The beer list is pretty expansive for a pool hall as is the food menu. We had the chicken nachos and jalapeno poppers- the poppers are topped with tater tots! They were so good we had a second round. I loved all the local beers on tap as well. I had a delicious stout called Caramel Machiato. The service was decent. The crowd is random but fun. If you're in Herndon and looking for a place to grab a beer, highly recommend!
google avatar

Elina Y.

Yelp
If you can ignore the sticky floors, this place isn't bad at all. I loved playing (and beating the boys) in basketball and most of the bartenders were attentive and nice. Giant jenga and darts are always fun while drinking. The only reason why I'm giving this a 3 and not 4 stars is due to its cleanliness. Carpool could definitely benefit from a thorough cleaning and more consistent upkeep of maintenance. But I'd still go back (just with constant washing of hands and not wearing my nice shoes there).
google avatar

Quinncee P.

Yelp
This place has personality. Pool, Skee-ball, shuffleboard, the works. The food isn't half-bad either. I had a Chicago dog with all the dressings and fries, and my friend had the chicken cheese steak, I believe. Correction to the aforementioned statement: the food was heaven. The fries, especially. The bartender made a good, strong 7 & 7, but she was very unattentive, unfortunately, docking a star for this place. On the other hand, the music was wonderfully random, pulling up obscure jams that you forgot you liked back in the day. The decor was smart, with old gas station pumps that read prices per gallon that we can only dream of now. I'd come back to a Carpool in the future, definitely.
google avatar

Lauren G.

Yelp
The fun part about this bar is all the games they have to play. They have a life size beer pong. The drinks are average. The atmosphere isn't amazing. They have an outdoor patio and with people coming in and out of the bar inside and outside all the smoke from outside filled inside. There were so many people smoking cigs felt like a biker type bar. Not really my scene...
google avatar

Joann B.

Yelp
We never would have known about Carpool if there hadn't been an after work get together. They have a good variety of beers on tap and their staff is pretty helpful. We've not eaten here yet, so we can't attest to the food, but while we were playing 'jumbo' jenga, a nearby table ordered some wings and they smelled really good. The crowd here is definitely not pretentious and everyone seems to be laid back. There's an internet jukebox, skee ball, jenga, a giant connect four, several pool tables, darts, shuffleboard and a couple of golf video games. There's also a good amount of places to just kick back and hang with your friends. It was raining a little bit, so we didn't sit outside - their outdoor patio is decent in size. Carpool has a few tvs situated here and there, but the satellite wasn't working so well while we were there. Although there wasn't a 'good' game on, I'm kind of skeptical about their reception for when it really counts. Another reviewer mentioned that Carpool is dirty and smells. I'm not necessarily sure what that person was looking for. If I want to go to a classier joint, I'll find one and skip Carpool. I didn't think it smelled during my visits. I agree that the couches are likely grimy, but I've come to think that many bars don't really clean their seating. Don't they just wait until their old furniture 'dies' and go out to buy some new stuff? I've seen worse in NOVA and many other states. This place is a decent bar.
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
We went here for dinner and drinks for the first time last night and it was unexpectedly great! It's very unassuming from the outside but has a great vibe inside. They have a HUGE selection of craft beer and a good amount of unique liquors. The bartenders were super friendly and nice and helped my very indecisive spouse pick a beer, even gave him a few tastings. We got to chatting with them and they gave us some tastings of their unique liquors and gave us a few ideas for our home bar. They have darts and pool, but also other fun games like giant jenga, giant connect four, skee ball, and more! This might become a regular spot for us!
google avatar

Yelp
It's aight. Limited food. A lot of space. I'm not mad at em. I just wish that that they had more food options.

Yelp
Okay place to hangout with friends, but feel the inside it's smells different Starters are good

Yelp
***3.5*** A good friend/colleague of mine accepted a new opportunity and decided that "Carpool" would be the place to hold his celebration. The time finally came to attend the event so off I went. Upon arriving there were two things that I noticed immediately, 1.) The outside look of Carpool looks to be old and outdated 2.) The parking here is a little funky so be sure to park in the appropriate spots (probably best to park in the back) In spite of number one, I still proceeded to enter the establishment. Once I entered, I see that this place is actually bigger than it looks, but has very limited seating. So if this place is ever packed be prepared to stand (which I assume is idea for social establishments, however not for women coming from work in heels). There HH (Happy Hour) prices are pretty reasonable and have a reasonably vast selection of beers. There were only three types of food items purchased for this gathering, and they are as follows: Chicken fingers, Chicken Quesadillas, and Nachos. Now I didn't get a chance to try the Nachos but the Chicken fingers and the Quesadillas were pretty darn good. I think I may have eaten all of the Chicken fingers because I just couldn't stop going back to grab one.....lol. Overall I think Carpool is a cool HH hangout spot. With a little sprucing up this place could possibly be the talk of Herndon in regards to HH joints. Oh and the half star increase was because the Chicken fingers hooked me, I just couldn't get enough.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places in Reston/Herndon to hang out. It's situated near Elden Street, Herndon. Its tucked away in the corner and not at all on show. I've always found the staff at this place very friendly and they have a really good selection of drinks. They also serve food, not that I tried but it from what I saw it did look good. They have at least 5 pool tables which are of good standard. They also have dart boards and nice back garden to have a drink (something I'm use to coming from London, UK). It may be a bit of a dive bar but if you are young and like to socialize (and of course like to play pool) then this is the place for you! Highly recommended! Oh and they have a really cool jukebox!

Yelp
Carpool is a decent bar and pool hall that's held back by a few nagging issues. I've been coming here for around two years now, and every time I do, nothing seems to jump out and change my opinion. Alas, my friends like this place a ton, so I'm forced to make a visit far more often than I would given my druthers. What are the problems, you ask? Three, really. First, the atmosphere is very rarely what I'd like it to be. The place fills up decently, but for whatever reason it just never rises to match the heights that all the bars at nearby Reston town center do. Second, the place is dirty- and I don't say that lightly. You know that feeling you get sometimes when you're in a bar and you just KNOW that it's dirty? You'll get that in spades at Carpool. The couches all feel like they've never been washed since they were originally bought. And to exasperate things, 50% of the time much of the place smells terrible. The bathrooms emit a god awful stench that makes me queasy every time. Last, Carpool is only about half a mile away from town center, which, as I mentioned earlier, beats this place in every way possible. Why come here when there's an infinitely better option so close by? Carpool is the kind of place that I'd visit twice, maybe three times a year at most. I've never understood the draw this place has. Alright, there are pool tables, but if you're that psyched for pool, just go to Breakers in Herndon, about 3 miles away. Maybe I'm just the odd man out on this one, but nevertheless: Carpool just doesn't do it for me.
