The Best Coffee Shops in Burlington, Vermont | Eater Montreal

"Named best coffee in the state by Food & Wine, Carrier was founded out of a barn near Northfield, Vermont as a CSA-style subscription coffee business back in 2015. In 2018, it became a café in the centre of the small town where local dairy farmers deliver milk from a small herd of Jersey cows to be used in the shop’s espresso drinks. It might not be in Burlington, but it’s worth your time — and in any case, Carrier is opening a Burlington outpost inside Jake’s ONE Market in November 2019." - Heather Platt

the staff is very friendly the espresso here is very good. Today i ordered a flat white i think it cost $5.18 before tip i received a cup full of warm/hot seemingly unsteamed milk with one shot of espresso in it. A flat white is typically closer to a 50/50 ratio milk to espresso. the only point of a flat white is its less milk than a standard latte or cappuccino. I like this coffee shop but today was definitely disappointing i was on my lunch break abd already across the street when i noticed they're mistake otherwise i would've asked them to fix. Still great espresso when they get it right!

Hands down, the very best coffee in Vermont... so... if you are driving by Northfield, VT don't hesitate to stop. They use local (and premium quality) Rogers Farmstead cream milk... to drink a Cortado at Carrier is to transport yourself to a the comforting shade of a hillside tropical coffee farm. You can also get some outstanding granola and a smallish selection of sweet bread... as well as excellent beer in the adjoining brewery. They roast on Mondays, except if it's brutally hot - then it's done in the middle of the night. In any case, Vermont is not exactly known for it's steaming hot summers. Enjoy!

Lovely spot that's easy to find and with REALLY good coffee. Had an amazing decaf latte with oat milk and a short conversation with the staff. Told him I was from out of town (Montréal) and he offered the beverage to me for free knowing that I had a long drive ahead of me. He was also kind enough to let me use my own paper cup! A complete stud and what a way to make someone's day!

Easily the best, most well balanced, thoroughly sourced, expertly roasted coffee in Vermont. Doesn’t hurt that the space is welcoming, service is top notch and it’s connected to a brewery! A thoughtful rotating seasonal menu always offers a perfect single origin on drip. Pair it with a cappuccino, or if you’re feeling a fancy, a Darryl and get a granola + yogurt to stay!

Every time I leave Northfield, I make a non-negotiable stop at Carrier Roasting Co. It’s not just a coffee shop—it’s a ritual. The espresso drinks are next-level (the maple latte is a must), and the vibe is cozy, bright, and welcoming. The baristas are kind, knowledgeable, and always make you feel like a regular—even if you’re just passing through. I always bring home a bag (or three) of their beans—each roast is so thoughtfully sourced and roasted, it’s like bringing a little piece of Vermont back with me. The new renovation makes the space even more inviting, and if you're lucky, you might catch the scent of fresh baked goods wafting through the air. If you’re ever near Northfield, do yourself a favor and stop in. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to linger—and then come back again and again.

Stayed in Northfield for a few days and was lucky enough to have this very close by. We went every morning and enjoyed each time. I recommend trying a maple latte or the G.O.A.T...that drink is out of this world delish!

People are loud but coffee is great and music too. You can’t read peacefully nor focus. Maybe it’s me.

We've been getting delivery of Carrier for years, and it's so incredibly good that we never want to switch it up. We periodically cycle through different brewing styles and the beans cooperate no matter how you do it. On top of that, the people that own/work here are incredibly kind. Can't say enough about Carrier!
