Why Is ‘Mickey 17’ So Obsessed With Sauce? | Eater

"The vessel's communal dining area is defined by strict calorie rationing and utilitarian food: gray, unidentifiable meals are measured to the calorie to save energy on the four-year journey, and sexual intercourse is forbidden because it would expend too many calories. This stark scarcity contrasts with the private dining described elsewhere and makes the absence of sauce especially conspicuous; the writer notes the crew would have welcomed a béarnaise or similar luxury as a reminder that life extends beyond intake and expenditure of calories and that the lost Earth once offered the flavors of French bourgeois tables, Mughal emperors, and Chinese banquets to more than just the rich. In this setting, sauce becomes a shorthand for hope and a possible signal that a more inclusive culinary world might be rebuilt." - Jaya Saxena

Carson dining was always a hit or miss. The all you can eat buffet is a good deal, if the food is good. 1/2 the time it was either just not great, or there would be almost nothing available. Pizza very mid. You really have to check the menu before going in to decide if it's worth it or not, which it can be (but isn't always)

We go to carson to form memories that last a lifetime. We go to carson to bond. To love. To become better people and learn things about ourselves and those around us. Carson Dining Hall is a religious experience for those willing to open their minds to the possibilities.

Pizza was stone oven baked and the best food there. Rice is non common here in U of O, so I'm glad they serve it. Lots of variety of foods, price was worth the buffet. I'm stuffed!

Dear Carson, I will die in this establishment. My body will rot to the core with the absolute banger jams playing in the background. (Seriously, whoever is on aux needs to share the playlist.) Words cannot express the joy that meets the soul when enjoying this ambiatic Carson dining experience. With eternal love, Q

As I’m sitting here on my phone writing out this review I’m struggling to find the words to express my love for Carson Dining Hall. I guess I’ll start out with the food. My first visit here was during fajita night when my friend took me here before a club meeting; I was surprised that I had never heard of Carson before. I had so much fun with my food and the buffet style gave me the creative freedom I needed to make My Perfect Fajita! As for the staff, they are quick to restock food items and put out clean dishes for when I return to the buffet for seconds! Finally, we have the atmosphere. This is where I’m going to have the most difficult time writing my review, I genuinely don’t think I’d be able to capture the essence of Carson Dining Hall in a measly Google review. Here is my attempt: Down to the smallest detail, Carson has perfected the art of making one feel at home. The music is always cheerful and just loud enough to enjoy in the background and in the middle of conversation I often take a moment to notice the music and it always makes me chuckle! Along with the music, laughter can always be heard throughout the tables! There’s no hate in Carson! I’m not exaggerating in the slightest when I say one of the best days of my life was spent in Carson eating lunch with my roommates/friends/best friends! I could keep going but I’d encourage anyone reading this to take a trip to Carson Dining Hall to experience the magic themselves. I am truly blessed to belong to an institution with a place such as Carson. Sco Ducks and sco Carson Dining Hall, my beloved.

The best moments of my life have occurred in this very building. The music is cheerful, the atmosphere is so friendly and charming I could cry, and the service has never been better. Smile at anyone in Carson, and they will come up to you and give you a big hug and offer you grapes from the salad bar. I want every important life event I have to happen here. I hope I get married, give birth, and die in carson. In short, thank you Carson.

You can't trust the allergen labels at Carson!! For example, if something contains cheese it won't be labeled as containing milk, which I learned the hard way. I've seen them leave out other labels as well
