"This is, hands down, the place to go if you’re seeking a bit of bubbly in the valley. Master winemaker Jon C. McPherson, winemaker Javier Flores, and assistant winemaker Emily Bloom head up wine production at South Coast Winery and here at Carter, adhering to the methode champenoise, the time-honored and labor-intensive tradition that results in bottle-fermented sparkling wine. In addition to sparkling, the winery’s 112 acres also produce other wines like its Penrose, a red blend that includes several Portuguese varieties. The property features a collection of bungalows and suites and a pool and grill that are accessible to guests." - Candice Woo

"How did it strike you on arrival?Desert vibes meet winery charm at Carter Estate, which is dotted with bougainvillea bushes, expansive vineyards, and terracotta-colored buildings. Nice. What’s the crowd like?Low-key families and couples The good stuff: Tell us about your room. All 42 rooms are suite-style and, at 500 square feet and up, they're enormous. Amenities vary suite to suite, but can include electric fireplaces, soaking tubs, dining areas, and private patios. No bland decor here; rooms are designed with the Mediterranean in mind, with vivid royal blues and handsome tufted headboards. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Although the bedding is luxurious through and through, note that some rooms are outfitted with a Murphy bed. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase?Book your room directly with the hotel, and you'll get a complimentary bottle of wine. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Bathrooms are large, with an equally spacious travertine shower. Some even have a separate makeup area. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Wi-Fi is included in the $19 resort fee. Room service: Worth it?There's no hotel restaurant—just room service or poolside dining. Breakfast ($9 to $17) runs the gamut, from kale smoothies and steel-cut oatmeal to egg sandwiches on croissants. Lunch and dinner offerings include lobster empanadas ($18), a caprese pesto chicken panini ($17), fish tacos ($20), and more, plus various Carter Estate wines served by the glass or bottle ($13 to $62). The property sources many ingredients from its two-acre on-site garden. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.Sip Chardonnays, Merlots, Syrahs, and more at Carter Estate's on-site tasting room ($25 and up per tasting). Reservations aren't required unless you're in for a food and wine pairing, which includes five Carter Estate wines with cheeses and cured meats. The heated outdoor pool is lined with stylish striped cabanas. It's worth getting up at dawn to see the hot air balloons rise over the vineyard. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? It's a chic wine country getaway with huge, comfortable rooms and romantic touches everywhere you look. Bottom line: worth it, and why?The rooms are huge." - Archana Ram

Friendly welcome, beautiful sparkling clean room, lovely view of the vineyard from our private patio. Even the murphy bed was really comfy. Although we came in too late for wine tasting, they shuttled us over( and back) to the restaurant, the Vineyard Rose, at their sister winery South Coast. Delicious food, wonderful service. ||Nice continental breakfast (bakery items, fresh fruit, coffee and juice) brought to our door at a time we requested. All in all, we loved our short stay with the beautiful view along with the wildlife that passed by our room. (bunnies, quail etc) We will definitely return, as my only complaint was that we couldn't stay longer!

Google
Website says you receive a bottle of wine, but we didn’t get one. My sister staying for the same wedding asked about it and was told she doesn’t get one because her room received a $15 discount as part of wedding party block. Extremely tacky to say this to guests. Also, they do not a have someone at front desk at all times. They didn’t put sheets on the sofa bed for my son. Beautiful place but disappointing. They seem extremely understaffed. Housekeeping never cleaned our room during our two nights.

Google
Will likely not return. Bed was uncomfortable, no housekeeping service whatsoever, Wi-fi in room was very slow. The continental breakfast in the room was bad both mornings (bread/pastries tasted old/stale), coffee was very watered down. Water fountain at the pool was inoperable due to issue with filter. We have stayed with Cater numerous times but I think the price doesn't represent a good value anymore given the service/amenities.

Google
The room and the view was lovely, and the chardonnay was excellent. The fact that it’s gated, and the only real activity is the pool, just didn’t appeal to us. You can’t walk to the tasting room (at least my husband couldn’t, it’s about a 1/4 mile and hot outside.)

Google
The rooms and ambiance are very nice and relaxing and the poolside food is delicious. The included in room breakfast and additional hot breakfast items were mediocre. Last visited 2 years ago and and the experience was much better then.

Wonderful setting in a the heart of wine country. Property is well maintained and picturesque gardens and views of the vineyards. Close to other vineyards and old town Temecula.

After spending so much money to stay here, I was not at all impressed. It was all just average, down to the gross continental breakfast that I wouldn't even call breakfast. Had to pay and order breakfast which was false advertisement on their prices. Then got a surprise resort fee of $34 a night on my bill that I was unaware of and considering it was winter and couldn't use the pool anyway. Hilarious. My biggest complaint and why I'm writing this is that I was still charged a $65 fee for the charcuterie board and wine that I ordered but canceled. I even got a call from the kitchen the day before my trip asking why I canceled it. I called inquiring about the charge and was told a kitchen supervisor would call me to confirm that it was never delivered. Never received a call back. Then I chatted with an agent a couple days later and was promised I would receive a phone call and yet never did. The charge is still on my card and I'm very upset about this. Very poor customer service.

This is a really nice resort and the rooms are excellent. The view of the vineyards and the mountains in the distance as outstanding. I highly recommend.

Yelp
Have been wine club members for awhile now. Went for tasting today. Had a GREAT time. Wines are good. Staff friendly & very knowledgeable. Relaxing peaceful tasting room. If your looking tto get away from the crowds & noise at the tasting rooms stop by. Relax & enjoy!!

Yelp
I had so much fun. The room rates are so reasonable for all you get. It's like your own private cottage and beautiful view with a back patio. They give you a free bottle of wine with your stay. Everyone who worked there was so nice. We walked right down to the winery which was lovely too and the guy working at the winery was delightful. Just all around 100%

Yelp
The bungalow rooms are large, well appointed, very clean and comfortable with a view of the vineyard and the hot air balloons. The property is very nice and well maintained. The high ceilings and accent lighting are nice. The rooms include some nice upgrades like large fluffy bath towels and real coffee cups, glasses and wine glasses, not paper or foam. Extra large shower and tub. The continental breakfast was generous. Great air conditioner and room darkening drapes. We were disappointed that there was no microwave in the room. Exiting the resort onto the highway is a little stressful and a challenge. There is a tall cypress that blocks your view of oncoming traffic on the left of the driveway, whether you are turning left or right, it prevents you from seeing oncoming cars. The highway is very busy, single lane in each direction and the speed limit is 50 MPH. The tree should be removed so that you can see oncoming traffic. Their sister property at South Coast Winery Resort is also a beautiful property, but the Vineyard Rose Restaurant located there (although very beautiful) is very disappointing. The food is expensive and is just so so. I had the seafood pasta, very little sea food and sauce was disappointing. It looked and tasted like it came out of a can. My wife had the chicken, it was dry and tough, very plain. Maybe you will have a different experience.

Yelp
Beautiful location...approach is very pretty...we arrived after dark and could not find Reception...finally followed a staff member that pulled up on a golf cart into an unmarked building at the end of the drive that looked to be a service/maintenance building to find out this is reception and the sign had fallen off, but it had not yet been repaired...check in went well (prepaid should). Enter room...first impression: spacious...run down. The vineyard view bungalow appeared to have been well appointed upon inception, but needs updating and attention to detail...the sheers were a mess...each curtain had several of the tabs unhung, leaving them to hang and operate incorrectly...the king size bed is swayed in the center...no bath mats provided until the 2nd morning of our stay as they only offer every other day maid service...1 garbage can...continental breakfast brought to your room in paper and plastic cups...no robes provided or extra blankets within the room for the crisp mornings...couch upholstery was torn and 1 full couch pillow/cushion (back, center) was missing altogether...landscaping is gorgeous and the staff we interacted with were professional and helpful...this was once a great stay...now, not so much...especially for the $$$.

Yelp
This was our first time staying at this property and we absolutely loved it. The location is wonderful. Our room had a beautiful view so sitting on the patio was serene. But I will say what absolutely made the experience was the staff, they were amazing! CJ drove the shuttle and was so nice and super accommodating. Marcy worked the registration and was the nicest human ever. She was so helpful and pleasant. From the second we checked in I knew it would be a wonderful stay thanks to her! Can't wait to visit again.

Deborah J.

Yelp
This property was gorgeous! Sitting outside on the patio next to the vineyard was so relaxing! The staff is welcoming, the rooms were amazing. Came for a wedding weekend and will definitely come back for a quick getaway. Doesn't feel like an hour away from home.

Sheri G.

Yelp
Amazing! Loved this place!! Brought my husband here for a two night stay for his birthday! We had the best time. Very clean and quiet! Since, it was my husband's birthday, we were gifted a bottle of wine, which we enjoyed on our semi private patio, overlooking the vineyard. In the morning we were pleasantly awoken to hot air balloons drifting over the vineyard outside our room. We feasted on our continental breakfast while watching them. The room was really nice and had a large bathtub and shower. We had the room with the Murphy bed. The bed was ok. Not the worst bed I've slept in but not the best. My only complaint. Our room faced the sunset and it was just beautiful to watch. It is also close to many of the vineyards to go wine tasting. I highly recommend this place, and we will definitely be back! Next time, trying out the queen bed.

Yelp
My hubby and I took a few days to vacate life in Vegas for a winery getaway. I was really looking forward to staying at this winery. Everything about the concept is fabulous. Upon arriving we found out that they are under new management and will be renovating in 2024. Looking forward to that since there are many little things that need repair. However, they aren't bad enough to not give this setting high marks. Each room is like a little villa and it's like you have your own little home. Love this !!! Our room faced the vineyards and in the morning we were surprised with a wonderful hot air balloon "show." So cool. We enjoyed a wine tasting when we arrived and unfortunately are not really a fan of their selection but that's ok. Different strokes as the saying goes. All in all it was a wonderful 3 days !!

Andrew W.

Yelp
We stayed in one of the bungalows recently for a long weekend. It was a great experience, and we were pleased by the location and amenities for the accommodation. In terms of the tasting room, service was prompt and there was a variety of wine on offer. Preferred this location to the sister property across the street.

Nicole E.

Yelp
This review is based on the Tasting Room. They don't require reservations which is nice. Surprisingly on a Saturday it was pretty mellow. I loved how they had flights with cheese pairings, chocolate or regular flight. The cheese pairing flight was really unique and I really enjoyed this offering. They also have a darling deck with great views as well. I would love to stay at this estate as I heard great things about the hotel. Def next year!

Yelp
what went wrong?} I'm writing this review because I have tried several times in vain to get this Buisness to respond to my recent poor experience there. stayed a night with my husband for our 35th anniversary, it was not our first time. we have actually stayed 4 times in the last few years. this time statted out good, but then the bad things started piling up. Why am I paying a resort fee when the fridge doesn't turn on and ruins my food? the tv doesn't work. the free breakfast only came with one serving when there are TWO GUESTS? And the pool lets drunk couples with BABIES in who splash water all over the place and play their own inappropriate music. What a great way to spend a COUPLES trip to relax, and let's not forget the GREEN spa that ruined my new bathing suit. I have been waiting for this place to contact me to make it right or at the very least just get back to me. There are so many other choices to stay in the wine country. I obviously picked the wrong one.

Robert C.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our stay here. Dog friendly property. I would recommend the larger room, as it was quite romantic, vpbut the smaller rooms also appeared reasonably outfitted. Great setting. Great views. Really liked the staff, particularly Gabby at check in. The winery is affiliated with South Coast, but far more intimate. My only complaint is small. They offered a horse drawn carriage ride thru the vineyard... but despite trying over 48 hours, nobody could reserve it for me unless I did it online which was not doable do to our multi night stay. So be it. I can spend those dollars on wine. Ha.

Crystal G.

Yelp
It's says resort, but...... maybe I didn't see the rest of it. I'm not sure. Very grand driveway with so much beautiful greenery. Amazing landscape . We walked into it one big Wine tasting room. Definitely felt cozy. Didn't drink anything So we're definitely going back.

Christina M.

Yelp
This winery is beautiful. However, I rated it 3 stars because of the customer service we received from Renee when we walked in yesterday. She was rude and cold. I am a resident of Temecula and have visited all but 7 wineries. This was one of the few left to try on my map. My husband wanted to walk out shortly after we walked in, but I did want to at least try their wine. They do not offer sweet wines, which is what I prefer, but the dessert wine is good! Robert did save the rest of the experience for us as he was nice and approachable.

Jes M.

Yelp
Stayed here over the weekend celebrating wifey's birthday and had a good stay. The room was really nice and spacious. The view of the vineyard was great. Parking is available right in front of the villa, which makes things easy to unload stuff. All the employees were phenomenal and helped out more than once. The continental breakfast is way too light. I was hoping for something more traditional. Other than that, everything was perfect and the location is centrally located around a lot of wineries.

Eleanor C.

Yelp
Based on one overnight stay - This was a very last minute addition to our San Diego trip, but I'm so glad we changed our plans so we could stay here. It's a beautiful landscape, the rooms are spacious, and it's a very quiet, serene place to be, despite being so close to a populous area. The large jet tub was great, the shower was awesome, and I thought the bed was actually pretty comfortable. The breakfast was what you'd expect from a free continental breakfast, but it was more enjoyable since it was hand delivered and we could eat it on the back patio overlooking the view.

Timo R.

Yelp
We went Carter Estate and Winery to do a wine tasting. It's a decent size winery but felt a little odd walking in and there was nobody at the front to greet us. The bartender did realize we were a bit lost and made sure our questions were answered. The wine flights come with 5 wines and they are known for their sparkling wines. It isn't much of a tasting, the waitress will give you your flights and leave. The wines were also pretty average, I don't really have anything negative or exceptional to say. Mediocre experience.

Jami M.

Yelp
The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is because we were put in a room right next to the pool and that blew. Screaming kids until 10pm at night and the jacuzzi Is literally on the other side of the wall so forget any peace on the patio of the pool is hopping. We would def go back but just away from the pool. Beautiful views and the room are huge! We brought our pup and he loved it. The tasting room is also dog friendly and really nice!

Sallie R.

Yelp
Upon arrival I was greeted by Debbie. She was so friendly. Our room was ready located at the top of hill with a beautiful view. The room was huge with a bath tub included. This was my first time staying at a winery resort. Very peaceful and quiet. There's a pool which overlooks stunning vineyards. I didn't order food since the grill was closed early, so went out elsewhere instead. Best part of it all, sunset is impeccable sitting outside on the patio. Star gazing at night is amazing as well. If you book through their website, you'll get a free bottle of wine. Since I made reservation through a third party, unfortunately you don't get one. Don't think it's fair since I'm still a guest at their property. Other than that, I would probably come back.

Sarah L.

Yelp
We had a good stay at the Carter Estate Winery but the quality of the property and room were disappointing. Based on the price point and reviews I expected more. There were many small things that are east to fix that suggest that the rooms aren't well taken care of like handles missing, dirty carpets, broken outlets, etc. we also asked for a crib which they provided but it was literally falling apart. I had to tighten the screws myself to make sure it was as safe as it could be. Overall the stay and property were okay but for the price and with so much competition around, if we go back I will likely look at other places.

Victoria H.

Yelp
We stayed for 2 nights for a quick getaway and stayed in one of the bungalow villas. Marci at check in was amazingly helpful and Debbie at the front desk really provided top tier service as well. I would recommend this place based on the views alone but the customer service was an unexpected bonus. Plus, the wine is great too - if you call the front desk, they'll even deliver a bottle to your room!

grover e.

Yelp
5 for the place the outside is clean beautiful and the views from the private patio is stunning 3 for the room itself although the rooms are spacious and comfortable a few things need immediate attention: ZERO for THE BED!!! Is so uncomfortable my body hurts like hell, this mattress is so cheap I feel the coils springs pushing against my entire body. 4 The bathroom is spacious the bathtub is nice with hydro water but some areas need some TLC and a little more maintenance, some of the lights in the lamps don't work, as well as the electric fireplace which we really wanted to use. 4 for the staff friendly and attentive service was great 4 food (breakfast only) was good but some of the extra side food was on the bland side. Overall not counting the sleepless nights this was a place I would stay again only if they upgrade the beds until then never again.

Katherine P.

Yelp
This review is based on our stay and not the winery tasting room. I was blown away with the set up on each bungalow. You can park directly in front of your bungalow so very convenient. From the moment you walk in, you can feel relaxation. Murphy bed was comfortable, very large bathroom with great lighting, two sinks, tub and separate walk in humongous shower. But what blew me away was the French doors leading to the private patio right in the vineyard. And waking up the next day to hot air balloons in the near distance made for a very picturesque moment to start the day. We ordered room service for breakfast since they don't have a restaurant onsite and unfortunately the breakfast was not that good. Breakfast burrito was more potatoes than anything else and really lacked flavor. The stay definitely made up for breakfast though.

Kaitlyn F.

Yelp
Emily was an amazing server!! The wine is amazing and the outside patio is beautiful!! Also the cheese board was so good!! this is a great winery!

Nicole F.

Yelp
Such a pretty and quiet venue which we appreciate to relax on the weekend. Love the view from the back patio at Carter.

Malachi M.

Yelp
Stayed here in one of their bungalows for two nights to celebrate our anniversary and had a wonderful time. The room was terrific with a fantastic view. We were also given a complimentary bottle of their 2022 Chardonnay and it was delicious! Probably the best Chardonnay I've tasted. I'm usually more of a red drinker but my wife said the same and she loves whites. Overall a wonderful experience and we hope to come back!

Brandon C.

Yelp
This review is based on the resort, which was somewhat disappointing. The people working here are lovely, but the rooms are quite dingy and outdated. For the price, I would have expected better quality and more attention to detail in the overall look and feel of the room. Also, the bed was very uncomfortable -- a Murphy bed?! And the shower didn't work.. oh and the weird entryway into the two connected bungalows is very annoying. You can hear your neighbor go in and out all night because of the loud doors. good view though, and beautiful surroundings. Oh and the free breakfast is so not good.

Leo L.

Yelp
We loved our stay!! The room was perfect. The bed was so comfortable that I slept like a baby. The room service was excellent and provided a very filling breakfast and our room also included a hot tube with jets. We got a complimentary bottle of wine with our stay which made our Valentine's even more special. They have a lovers package that for an extra cost includes rose petals on the bed, a bottle of champagne, and chocolate covered strawberries. I highly recommend staying at Carter Estate Winery and Resort. Whether you just want to get away or you need a weekend of romance this is the place to go. Price:$$ Comfort: 100% Service: 100%

Dulce M.

Yelp
My review is based of the wine experience with our amazing server. I sat out in the back area patio with my friend on a Friday afternoon around 1PM. The place was pretty empty so we were quickly seated and served. I am not a huge wine expert but i asked my server for a flight and to pick my wines for me . I had 1 sparkling, 2 white and 2 red. I wish i could say which one was my favorite but i completely forgot what it was Our server came down multiple times and was super attentive, had one of the best attitudes I've seen in a server in a while. He was extremely knowledgeable about what he was selling and what would fit my newbie taste. I would say he alone made it such a wonderful experience. I am definitely coming back with my in laws and asking for JUAN again because he made the experience great. He said he was there M,W,F,S,S (i could be off on these dates, but i know for sure F-Sun he's there!) For a wine newbie i thought all of the wines i had we're amazing and the environment was very relaxing.

Ion L.

Yelp
Awesome place to get away in Temecula. First class service and the winery is spectacular!

Sarah M.

Yelp
The Carter Estate Resort was absolutely lovely. I stayed for 2 nights for a wedding at a winery 5 minutes away from the resort and everything was so convenient. I requested early check-in at about 11/11:30am and I knew it wasn't guaranteed but the minute I got there and started the pre-registration check in, the front desk person said they can probably get a key within the next hour. Sure enough, an hour later, they gave me my key and I was good to go. Super friendly staff and very accommodating. 5/5 stars. The view from our room was gorgeous. The complimentary breakfast in the patio in the morning was a literal dream. Amazing. I would recommend Carter Estate Resort to anyone looking to stay in Temecula.

Ken B.

Yelp
So just stayed here for 3 days while house is being rented for termites so we brought our corgis with us (first time) and overall a positive experience. Bottom line is we would return. The little things that could be remedied are as follows: Need more than two teenie weenie trash cans in the room. Property could use a couple more trash cans located throughout. The on premise grill would be nice to be opened longer than from 11-2. The pillows are too big and too firm and spongy. Pool is too small. If you are staying more than one night provide more bath towels. Bed is way too high off the ground. Paid $200 for dogs to stay and zero anything for the dogs. No complimentary tastings? Positives: Room size was huge Bathroom was huge Shower was great and so was the jetted soaking tub. Bar area was a plus Complimentary bottle of wine was good Continental breakfast was large and good Patio and overall property was nice with great views. Parking is excellent No parking or resort fees AC worked great Bath products were good. None of that cheap BS reloadable pump crap Bed was comfy and so was the bedding. Nice sofa, chair and small dining table. Place is worth a return visit. I think the dog fee could be $50-$75 a night since I paid $200 for two. I we were here for 5 days it would be different.

Val C.

Yelp
We stayed at this resort for 2 nights recently. The grounds are very nice. Our room was large with a king bed, sleeper sofa and a small dining table. It had a large bathroom with double sinks, walk-in shower and a soaking tub. We also had a very nice patio overlooking the vineyard. The sunsets were amazing! The room is a little outdated. The tasting room at this vineyard is also in need of an update. It is very dark, furniture is very heavy and uncomfortable. The wine was decent. We went to 7 wineries in our 2 day visit and it was in the bottom 5 mostly due to the atmosphere of the tasting room. Needs an update!

Melissa R.

Yelp
We recently stayed three nights at Carter Estates. Check-in was fast and easy. The staff was friendly during our entire stay and went above and beyond at every opportunity. The staff genuniely seem happy to be working there. We spent every morning on our patio overlooking the vineyard - it was peaceful and serene...a wonderful way to slowly wake up in the morning. We had the complimentry breakfast on day one which was a sampling of pastries and some fruit. The blueberry muffin was delicious but the presentation could use some improvement. The styrofoam container was not visually appealing and the juices were not very cold. Speaking of not very cold, there is a mini fridge in the room but it's not really a mini fridge. We were told the fridge was a "wine chiller" but you can't even properly fit a bottle of wine in it. Because there is no fridge, we were making hourly ice runs in an effort to chill our beverages. The room had the potential to be very nice and with a bit of updates, I think it will be again. Everything in the room looked tired and dingy. The sofa was stained and torn. The framed pictures were a nice touch but there was a layer of dust on all of them. The huge tub had a hair in it. The marble tabletops could be gorgeous but there were drink rings on all of the surfaces. Throughout our stay I regretted that I did not bring some cleaning wipes with us...it was hard to feel comfortable in a dingy space. With a small investment in some upgrades and some deep cleaning the space could be 5-star. We did enjoy our time on property but until improvements are made on the rooms, we'll probably try our luck elsewhere in the future.

Jacqueline T.

Yelp
This is our first visit at Carter Estate Winery for a weekend stay. The registration desk was very helpful. We quickly got our room. Each room is a little bungalow with a nice terrace overseeing the vineyard. In the morning, we enjoyed the hot air balloon view. During the cool evening, we loved the sunset with a glass of Syrah. The complimentary continental breakfast which was delivered to the doorstep. All of staff provided great service. Special shout-out to Douglas who offered us a ride to the tasting room. The wine selection is OK. I wish there were more variety.

Rocky G.

Yelp
Beautiful property, nice room at a fair price. Service was solid as well. A definite bargain for the $$$.

Chelsea H.

Yelp
My husband and I just stayed eight nights at Carter Estate. Overall, we would not return, but there were definitely some positives: Pros: - Amazing view. Every bungalow has a patio with a vineyard view. Watching hot air balloons from our patio was such a surreal treat! - Super comfortable bed, even though it was a Murphy bed. For the price, a Murphy bed is surprising and odd. But it was still very comfortable and we slept great. - A very basic continental breakfast is delivered to your door every morning at your specified time, which was nice. - The grounds and drive-up are very pretty. The bungalows are gated and set back from the road. Very private location! Cons: - Each room shares exterior door and entryway with one other room. The shared exterior door and each room door are very heavy and impossible to close quietly, so we were woken up MANY times by opening and closing doors by our neighbors and staff--even as early as 5:30am! One morning, the set of doors slammed shut at least 10 times in a row while we were still trying to sleep. We even use a loud white noise machine every night to help mask ambient noise, but that was no match for the doors constantly slamming shut. This door-sharing setup makes no sense and only creates massive noise issues that impact privacy and sleep. - Our room was dirty and dingy. I had to disinfect and clean the room myself upon arrival. There were dark stains on the white curtains and dust and grime throughout the bungalow. There were small glass shards on the table that I almost cut myself on while wiping it down. The comforter was obviously very old and lacked a duvet cover. The windows had smudges. The outdoor table was covered in dirt. We were truly shocked at the lack of cleanliness throughout our space, particularly during Covid. Normally, businesses clean more because of the times we are living in, but not Carter Estate! There was also a sewage smell and some large gnats in the bathroom throughout our stay. A light bulb in our bathroom was out upon arrival, and there was no extra toilet paper in our room beyond the partial roll already in use. We were also told upon asking about maid service that there was none. This property has such potential with its location and setup. So it's such a shame that Carter Estate's lack of cleanliness, lack of attention to detail, and lack of concern for guests' comfort were such big disappointments.

Yelp
This was a beautiful surprise. Gorgeous inside and out. No food here but excellent wine flights with fabulous service! A must visit.

Yelp
Carter was recommended to us by friends and did not disappoint. Check in easy. Included a bottle of wine. Room was beautiful with huge bathroom and patio overlooking the vineyards. Pool area nice as well. Really not a bad view in the house. Enjoyed live music til 8 pm in the tasting room as well. Continental breakfast delivered to the room was a bonus. got up early to watch the hot air balloons take off right over you. Really cool ! The only negatives are they need to provide larger trash receptacles in room and bathroom as well as more food options. We will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
We stayed only for one night but enjoyed our stay. Check-in: Check-in is at 4pm. We arrived just after 4p. Our room wasn't ready at first but we didn't have to wait long before it was. The front desk gave us a key to access the pool while we waited. It was over 100 degrees Fahrenheit so we were excited to cool off. When we arrived at the pool, we saw there were no pool towels available. We wanted to come back after we got our room, but since the pool closes at 6p we didn't think the towels would be replenished before then. It wasn't long before the front desk called me to let me know our room was ready. The check-in process was smooth and the front desk agent let us know ahead of time that one key card is needed to keep the electricity on in the room. (It was great to know this at check-in when they issued the room keys. Great customer service.) We booked directly with them so we also received a bottle of wine at check-in Room: - nice, clean, and spacious - loved the Keurig in the room - plenty of natural lighting in the bathroom - luxurious bathtub - no vanity chair so felt awkward to use that space - vanity mirror light was rather dim - room showed signs of wear but it still felt clean more or less. - great a/c -mini-fridge was cool, not cold. Be careful with your perishables. - perfect parking situation at this small resort - beautiful views into the vineyard - we loved our patio area My only grievance was that there were a few more flying insects than I would like. During the day, the flies flew in anytime we opened the door to the patio and, at night, the moths flew in attracted to the light we had on inside. So it made it rather tricky to fully enjoy our patio. Check-out: Check-out is at 11am. I didn't see an option to check-out through the TV so we had to do so at the front desk. Just sharing as it is good to know ahead of time so you can plan your check-out timing accordingly. We had a great time celebrating our special occasion with a little getaway. It was the perfect place for some R&R (flies aside).

Yelp
This review is for the resort. Overall, I do not think I would return here to stay the night. My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights and spent about $600 for those 2 nights. I think $350-400 would have been more appropriate. I should mention: the views were amazing, property was clean, pool and hot tub were nice and room was nice looking. However, that's where it ends. 1) The thermostats don't let you drop the temp below 70. Which is fine unless it's a day with 40-50%+ humidity. The first night I got about 3 hours of sleep. The second night was maybe 5-6. The 2 days we spent in Temecula were not as great as they could have been because I was dead tired. I woke up hot and sweating several times. Word to the wise, wrap a bag handle around the thermostat to activate the motion sensor. The 70 limit is just stupid... they limit your comfort. You can open the windows, but it barely helps. You either keep the sheer curtains over the window to get airflow but let light in in the morning. Or close the light blocking ones, kill the airflow but keep it dark. 2) The bed was not comfortable. So that didn't help the situation. Uncomfortably hot and uncomfortable in general... 3) The shower was not working. The water was hot then would have a surge and become freezing. Then warm. Happened a couple times, which was really annoying. Plus, there was black mold in the grout, which was a delightful touch. 4) The continental breakfast was severely underwhelming. We stayed at a best western before getting to Temecula and the continental breakfast was significantly better. Eggs, toast, waffles, the works. Here? Some crappy mini muffin and croissant with a handful of fruit for 2 people. Or yogurt. Or you could pay for breakfast, which also adds 18% gratuity and a $4 delivery charge. And the second morning they just knocked and yelled "we will just leave it on the floor" and left. Sorry, you couldn't wait 5 seconds for me to get the door? I also had a tip for them for both days (couldn't find my wallet fast enough the first day). But I guess the didn't want it... 5) Lots of petty nonsense. Broken curtains, broken toilet lid, leaky tub, leaky toilet. Bed and TV don't line up. Fan and vents don't point towards bed. 1 main door for 2 bungalows, so if your neighbor doesn't let the door close quietly, you hear them slam EVERY SINGLE TIME. Just not very well laid out. We have stayed in many places in Temecula. This was hands down the worst value. I highly recommend looking elsewhere. This is not a $300/night establishment (including taxes and fees). At best I'd say $200/night. $175 is more reasonable.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning view, nice that they have a pool and bungalows attached but they didn't tell us you have to reserve them. Their wines were okay too. I took off a star because for $300+ you get a pull out bed, not even an actual bed in the room and the neighboring doors when people leave in and out if their rooms are so loud they shake you. If staying the night again in Temecula, I'd explore other options instead of staying here again.

Yelp
PROS: we had a nice big casita style room facing the vineyards. The tasting room was nice, and they had the best wines of all those we tasted in Temecula. CONS: 1) As a frequent user of Orbitz, I was to receive a free room upgrade if available. When I checked in I was told there were no upgraded casita rooms available with a private entrance. I showed the person at the front desk the availability of this room type on their own web site, and she just kept saying "not available" and shoved the keys at me with no explanation. She was very rude. 2) I had called the day before to make sure the sofa bed would be made up as there were 3 of us. Not only was it not done, there were no extra sheets or pillows in the room. When I called the desk they brought them to the room but we had to make the bed ourselves. 3) the "free" breakfast consisted of coffee, drinks, sweet pastries, yogurt and fruit. We ordered boiled eggs off the menu items that had to be paid for. When they arrived they were frozen and covered with frost. 4) the closet doors were off the track and we had to fix them ourself. Also, the hair dryer vent had never been cleaned and was covered with a thick layer of lint/dust. 5) there was no housekeeping, 6) upon checkout we were not given a folio of charges and had to ask for it. Several charges were incorrect and it took about 20 minutes to get it resolved. We stayed at Carter Estate about 4-5 years ago and had a wonderful, 5 star experience. This time was different. I hope they improve their management as it is a wonderful property and has the potential.

Yelp
Staying at the Carter Estate this past weekend was such a treat! From check in to check out and everyone in between, we encountered the kindest and most helpful staff around! I love how private and secure this resort is and they had covid precautions in full effect. Having parking right in front of your room made everything so easy and convenient. Our room was clean, spacious and lets not mention the beautiful view from the patio!! We woke up Saturday morning to hot air balloons right outside our door, it was beautiful! The bathroom area is big and they had plenty of towels and toiletries. Breakfast was delivered at our preferred time window and it was packaged perfectly! We loved the tea and juice! Room service was also great; we got the burger, fries and walnut brownie. The fries are amazing and I highly recommend them! The only con, if any, was the water pressure in the shower. It was totally fine, I just like it a little stronger. Either way, I will definitely be back in the near future!

Yelp
A very nice isolated winery with a relaxing vineyard patio. The bar area at the front had a lot of good tasting options and staff were very nice. The room was super big and had a high ceiling. The only downside was that the buildings are pretty old and each room is like a duplex so you can hear the door bang everytime a neighbor goes in and out of their room.

Yelp
Property: very nice. Includes a tasting room, small pool and the parking area is gated. The rooms are surrounded by the vineyard which is very pretty. There were gorgeous views all around the property and overall provided great ambiance. The ambiance and quaintness of the property were Carter Estates best features. Check in: the computer system was down and the two employees were clearly overwhelmed and frustrated with each other. They had a hard time getting people with reservations checked into their rooms. I can't imagine what they would do if there was actually a problem. Pool: small pool with some chairs and a small bar. Bar is only open from 11-2. Limited options for food and drinks but it was nice. Our pool experience came to an end when a man brought his two dogs into the pool. Pretty unacceptable if you ask me. Rooms: overall, rooms were fine. Clean and had a TV and a small, artificial fireplace which was nice. AC worked. Soaking tub was excellent. Shower was big. We had a Murphy bed which I thought was funny given the price for the room. It was still comfy, just surprising given how the resort is clearly trying to be more on the upscale side of things. Also, saying its a bungalow is misleading. It's really two rooms that share a wall. We could hear every word our neighbors were saying and anyone coming and going from the room next door is extremely loud with the door opening and closing. Back patio had a gorgeous view. However, the neighbors next to us were also out with no privacy wall so it felt like we were eating breakfast together which was strange. Food: included continental breakfast was really nothing. Some cold, store bought pastries, store bought yogurt, with some granola and some fruit in plastic containers delivered in a paper bag. Truly nothing special. There are other items to order in addition to the included continental breakfast but we didn't try those. Overall we had a great time! I had mixed emotions throughout my stay. It's like a poor man's Napa Valley resort trying it's best to be upscale, quaint and luxurious but just missing the mark in too many areas to give anything more than 3 stars.

Yelp
Wine tasting at Carter is the best. Incredible wine and amazing customer service. Ask for EMILY!!

Yelp
Needs to be updated desperately-sofa had a tear and stains- continental breakfast was average- the pastry tasted frozen thawed out- No restaurant so you either need to bring some easy food with you or plan to leave the premises for lunch and dinner. Staff was very nice and very willing to make us as comfortable as possible.

Yelp
Stayed at the resort a few days right before Christmas 2022: and visited the winery. First off the resort was way times better than staying in town with the noise and hustle bussel. You get what you pay for in rooms: and frankly to me it was worth the money - to stay there. Second it was a pleasure to meet EMILY FUDGE at the Carter Winery. She was professional and totally in charge of the business. She sold me on the wine club - a no brainer - since we love the resort. Yes her and her co- worker made our wine tasting enjoyable too. Emily Fudge has the full circle ability to run the Carter Winery bar. Debie at the Carter Resort also has that managerial ability. She sold us on the resort a few weeks ago when we dropped in from another place in downtown a few weeks ago. Please stop by and try all their Carter bubblies at Emilie's bar- and also think strongly about staying with Debie there at the resort. For the peace and quiet at the resort mixed with the fine wines I am sure you will be relaxed and rejuvenated by the full total experience. BTW stop by the papa place accross the street and check out their wine bar and resort - it is called South West Winery and they run Carter's Winery - a corporate deal. A nice Japanese gal was there at the deask for South West Winey Resort - and helped us out more than once - on our questions. I suggest South West Winery be very happy with: DEBBIE AT CARTERS RESORT EMILY AT CARTERS WINERY JAPANESE GALL AT SOUTH WEST RESORT AT THE DESK AND ON THE PHONE... NICE PEOPLE THEY HAVE THERE... ANYWAY - get away and enjoy the deals now in the next few months - you deserve It... Steven Wayne Knight - M.A. Management
