The 9 Best Paella In Barcelona - Barcelona - The Infatuation

"Casa Amàlia has been around since the 1950s and is all about local community and traceability. Their digital menu shows you where their ingredients come from, down to the specific stall in La Concepció market next door. We love the Thorpedo mini sandwich, a pork rib, peanut sauce, and red onion explosion stuffed in Andalusian mollete flatbread, but the real bomb here is the rice. It’s made from Molino Roca’s short-grained Valencian Dinamita rice, which has a hollow center that allows for more absorption of flavor. If you’re like us, you might catch yourself fantasizing about the deep, earthy aromas of their Onyar-Merlès rice with duck magret, foie, and figs days later. Book a table on the terrace in the pedestrianized cobbled street that’s chic and romantic, like being on set for Emily in Barcelona." - isabelle kliger

Casa Amàlia was one of the best experiences in Barcelona from start to finish. We didn't have reservation, but were lucky to find a seat. The place is nearly almost full, so my advice to book in advance. We were seated on the second floor. Staff was lovely and attentive. We tried different balls (spinach, with kimchi) and Paella (the portion is generous so we took 2 portions for 3 people). The sweet touch was cheesecake at the and. Definitely very vibrant vibe and Spanish touch to dishes.

Casa Amalia did not disappoint. The Charlie Bravo, muscles with spicy coconut tamarind sauce was my favorite. Be sure to order the sourdough for dipping into the sauce. Seafood paella was good but a bit salty for my taste. Franco and the other servers were excellent and atmosphere was great with families, couples and singles dining at lovely outdoor tables. Highly recommend this lovely Catalan restaurant!

Love this restaurant as it is located in a quiet passing road but not on busy road as others. We started with the Charlie Bravo - mussels with coconut and spicy tamarind sauce. It was great, especially with bread. I was advised by the waiter to order the bread with olive oil to eat with Charlie - Bravo. It was thanks to him. Then it is followed by Paella with Loster and the Octopus. Both are very tasty and we left nothing on the dish. Would recommend this restaurant. You should book in advance or you’d better come early for dinner. Otherwise it will be fully booked very quickly. I saw many groups who were refused as they came in a large group with no booking. Definitely will come back if I have chance to come to Barcelona again.

This place came highly recommended by locals and google reviews for their amazing paella and vibe. Considering it is only a few blocks from where we are staying we booked a table (i highly advise you to book in advance). Options include terrace (where we sat) or indoors. Menus are offered via tablets - very convenient for both - patrons and the restaurant (so they dont have to reprint menu all the time). We had bread with olive oil for appetizer and pork bacon… not bad at all. Beef tar-tar was one of our main dishes - they give you option on how spicy you want it - we went with 5/10. It was fresh and tasty. Main course was of course their seafood paella and this is where my personal disappointment comes from. I didnt love it! In fact - i didnt like it! Especially compared to another paella we had 2 days earlier at a different recommended place. I get it that it is all very subjective and considering all the positive reviews - my taste is a minority, but 4 of us all agreed that another place was better. Shrimp was - uncleaned with spine still in and actually undercooked…maybe this is part of the recipe - what do i know about authentic paella after all? I also didnt like the seasoning (or lack of)… lastly - none of us are big eaters but we ordered 3 portions and it felt that either their portions are tiny to begin with or we got shorted! Rice was very thin layered on the pan barely covering it… again - we all left full. Just sharing my observations! Atmosphere was great - vibe and charm of an old city with peace and quiet of that small street was very cozy.. Waiter was ok. Likely tired as we came an hour before closing, but he could have paid more attention to us and not force us to flag him down. Maybe he was just trying to give us privacy. Overall solid 4 but i would skip this place for others next time.

Google
Delicious meal and service, our server made some great recommendations. The shrimp croquet and lobster roll were delicious, and the flan was so creamy. The paella was very good but a little on the salty side

Spectacular food and service. I would suggest a reservation but we did get lucky as a walk-up and got a table for two. Flor was our server and very helpful with the wine selection and portion sizes as we didn’t know if we were ordering too much, or too little. With her help we got the perfect amount of food with a great wine selection. I’d consider our meal a romantic night for two, but others were there with friends having a good time. I’d consider this place for any occasion!

Love, love, loved Casa Amalia! ❤️ I would recommend starting off with an appetizer (the musssels were fantastic!) The paellas are good for each person individually or to share if you want other items too. The duck and lobster paellas were both standouts. Just remember that paellas tend to take a little while to prepare, so be patient, it is worth the wait. You must, absolutely MUST get the flan. It might be the best I’ve ever had. I went twice on my trip to Barcelona and made a reservation both times, I would suggest you do the same to prevent waiting.

Ona was THE BEST server we could have asked for. Friendly. Knowledgeable about the menu, wines and their ordering process (directly from the iPad which made it super easy!!). We had an assortment of “bites” (Iberian ham croquettes, the Thorpedo, lobster roll), the tomato salad (which was hands down the best/sweetest tomatoes I’ve ever had) and just cause we hadnyhad enough we had the Baby Noa for dessert. OMG—a chocolate sensory and tastebuds overload!!! A glass of the alberino wine was the perfect match. Atmosphere was fun—we sat outside and loved it. Two negatives; the lobster rolls weren’t our favorite and the chair legs got caught in the cobblestone walk. No big deal. Make a reservation—we saw several groups get turned away. Now…think I’ve earned a nap!!!
