12 Beautiful Villas in Spain, From a Cliffside Idyll to Richard Branson’s Estate | Condé Nast Traveler

"Perfect for large groups ready to celebrate, this turbo-smart hideaway balances elegant, laid-back interiors—sunny ikat fabrics, rattan rugs, vaulted wooden beams, twinkly chandeliers, and fat squashy sofas—with party-ready entertaining, including a sociable semi-covered pool running the length of the courtyard. If you’re after a full-bells-and-whistles week, staff can connect you with private chefs, masseurs, and yoga instructors, and the location shines: 10 minutes from the sandy beaches and drinking dens of Sitges and about an hour to all the excitement of Barcelona, so you can dip in and out as you wish." - Teddy Wolstenholme, Layla Quaedvlieg

Where to Stay in Oaxaca on Your Trip (Updated 2025)

"About a 15-minute walk to the Zócalo on the northern edge of downtown, I found this to be a super social hostel where staff organize lots of events—happy hours, yoga classes, and group barbecues—making it easy to meet people. Breakfast is included, there’s a roof bar for hanging out, the beds are soft and comfortable with privacy screens, and the bathrooms are kept very clean. It’s one of the best hostels in the city." - Matthew Kepnes

The 7 Best Hostels in Oaxaca (Updated 2025)

"I found Casa Angel Hostel to be an award-winning, incredibly social spot in downtown Oaxaca, with daily events like happy hours, yoga, group BBQs and salsa lessons that make meeting other travelers effortless. The rooftop bar is lively and convenient for hanging out, and accommodation options range from regular dorm beds with curtains to deluxe pod-style beds with orthopedic mattresses that offer excellent privacy. Breakfast is included, and the constant social programming creates a fun, communal vibe throughout my stay." - Matthew Kepnes

I paid £60 per night for a private en-suite room, even got a little outside space! The room was very comfortable and clean, daily housekeeping too. Roof top bar with plenty of seating, a really great atmosphere and a happy hour from 7, which really helps when travelling alone. I didn’t have the breakfast but it looked great value. There’s a great coffee shop around the corner, amazing flat white. Location is also fantastic, a 10 minute walk to the centre, and the hostel also organise their own walking/food tours and have Mescal tasting.

Casa Angel is a really nice social hostel that isn’t too party-heavy, which I appreciated. The facilities were clean, and the beds were comfortable. Just a small heads-up ,there are around eight bathrooms shared among everyone, so it can get busy at times. But they also have great happy hour promos, which is a nice bonus for meeting people😁

I solo traveled to Oaxaca for a week and stayed at Casa Angel. Location: Good - about 10 minutes walk to Zocolo and there are plenty of food/bars/banks around the area. It is safe to walk around. Cleanliness: The shared areas are clean daily and bedsheets x towels are changed upon request. Vibe: It is pretty sociable. There is Happy Hour every night and planned activities everyday which incentivize people to socialize. I met many new friends here :)

I really enjoyed my stay here! The location is great - close to the city center, and everything is new and very clean. There are different activities available, and you can also get a nice breakfast. The people working here are super friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with any questions. The atmosphere is great, and there’s a common area where you can comfortably work at a table. Highly recommend!

Nice Atmosphere at night on the terrace! The rooms have a bad air circulation so we had to keep the door open sometimes. I really liked the beds, with good curtains, lights and a small space to leave stuff. Big lockers and nice bathroom! Would come again!

We stayed in Casa Angel for three nights. Considering the positive review profile online, we were disappointed with our private room, which was very small and had hardly any natural light. The hostel is generally very cramped and feels a bit shabby. When we visited Viajero for a drink it seemed much nicer, more spacious, and friendlier. That being said, the staff at Casa Angel were helpful, the hostel is clean, and it’s in a good location.

Had a nice stay in a private room. A staff member, Emmanuel, helped my a lot in getting me a bus ticket when I needed help. The bar staff when I was there this past Monday/Tuesday were delightful. Room is decent for the price; shower floor needs some work and the door/lock is very thin. Location is pretty good too! I would recommend this hostel.

This is a great place to relax and meet people. It is definitely a hostel on the party-side with loads of activities and social interactions. The beds have small fans and it is clean, which I really appreciated. Concerning the location: Top. Walking into the Center doesn’t take long and it’s easy to find. Thank you, I would come back.

Yelp
Note: I did NOT stay here, although I made friends who did and they liked it a lot, and said the AC was great, bathrooms were nice, etc. I came to the rooftop twice and absolutely loved it. Fabulous vibe, cheap drinks (50 pesos for cocktails during happy hour and 15 pesos for beers) that were pretty decent, fun activities, great space (lots of seating), etc. Very very friendly staff. All of the bartenders were lovely as were the people running the activities (mezcal tasting one night and salsa dancing the next). Would definitely stay here when I come back to Oaxaca city.

Yelp
Stayed 6 days and probably wouldn't return due to sound issues. The good: Awesome location and something to do everyday. I really enjoyed rooftop morning yoga and my walking tour which went to the highest point overlooking the city! I stayed in the Deluxe 6 bed and the curtain blocks out most of the light. My locker was spacious and in general- the room was well designed! There was a little patio to sit on outside of the room, showers were usually open, and the room had floor lighting to avoid waking others in the night -- a fan and even AC! The rooftop was designed with outdoor "beds" that you could hang out on and there are a couple long tables which are a great place to meet people. Downstairs, the kitchen is nice and free breakfast each morning was a huge plus! Awesome that they offer cheap connections to buses south (Escondido etc) and you can easily book them up front. Hostel staff is friendly and helpful. The bad: The rooftop was extremely loud most nights, at least in the deluxe room (perhaps because of the patio area with no roof it lets in more sound). I felt like no one in my room really enjoyed how loud the rooftop was even early most nights with blaring music. I found the noise really disorienting as the deluxe rooms are marketed as a "restful" area, and although we wanted fresh air most nights we would close the patio door to block out some of the noise. The rooftop food was pretty passable - wouldn't recommend the burgers.

Yelp
We stayed in Casa Angel for about five days. Staff: Staff was very helpful and accommodating. We changed our reservations about three times without difficulty (to go to Puerto Escondido). Amenities: Rooms, bathrooms and common areas were very clean. They offer free breakfast or charge 40 pesos if you aren't staying there. You can leave your stuff in a locked room; it's about 10 pesos a night. They also offered tours which we took advantaged of; probably can get a better deal somewhere else but we were too lazy. There's a lovely terrace with a good view and you can play your own music (with an aux cord) Location: walkable to everything. There's a market, convenience stores (to buy snacks, water and alcohol) and street food within two blocks. Taxis are about 40 pesos from anywhere in town. Not sure what the other hostels in the area offered but we had guests from other hostels hanging out in the common rooms. I took a star off for the super slow WIFI and the overpriced tours/shuttle services.

Yelp
My cousin and I decided to Watch Donaji la Leyenda, spend the night at Casa Angel, then check out in the morning, leave our things in their storage and watch the Guelaguetza. It was the perfect spot to stay at! The stair entrance to El cerro del fortin was literally a five minute walk from the hostel. And the walk up the very steep stairs took 5/7 minutes. Thus, making it the perfect distance for a safe late-night walk for us ladies. Santo Domingo,El Zocalo and the whole enchilada is a 7-10 minute walk. Walk across the street and there you will find a washing service for your dirty clothes. Rooms: Bring a lock! They gave us sheets and towels have to be reented. The room we had was for three and it was a good size but stuffy! Luckily there is a fan. Bathrooms: Has two showers and 1 toilet Very clean. Wifi is privided. Breakfast is from 8am-10pm

Great hostel to stay. Really clean. Friendly staff. Close to Oaxaca downtown (walking distance). Nice terrace.
