Casa Carmen Review - Tribeca - New York - The Infatuation

"Casa Carmen is the only place outside of Mexico where you can try some signature dishes from chef Carmen Ramirez Degollado’s El Bajío restaurant empire. (It’s run by two of her grandsons.) This upscale spot in Tribeca focuses on traditional Mexican food that can be found all over Veracruz, Puebla, and Oaxaca, all of which is served in a room with earthy decor that makes you think you're at a hacienda-like resort where you'd book a horseback riding lesson. Order the refreshing ceviche with just the right amount of acid, the tostadas topped with shredded duck, and the chicken drenched in pleasantly bitter and sweet mole de Xico that's made with only 37 ingredients. On your way out, you'll see a big communal table that looks like it could host a council of supervillains (or, you know, a birthday party), so think of this place the next time you organize a big group dinner. photo credit: Max Flatow" - Kenny Yang

We stayed here for two nights and loved it. It is in an excellent location to explore Oaxaca, but the main thing for us was the beautiful rooms and lovely courtyard - which acted as a sanctuary of peace compared to the business of Oaxaca's streets. We also really liked the quality of everything, down to the full suite of Molton brown products in the bathroom. Definitely stay here!

I recently stayed at Carmen Moreles Hotel in Oaxaca with my mother for two nights during Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). We had the most amazing time there! Alonso and the entire team were incredibly helpful. They went above and beyond typical hotel politeness; they genuinely cared about us. One evening, as my mom and I were sitting in the common area, having a moment of remembrance for our loved ones, Alonso showed exceptional sensitivity. He dimmed the music, and the whole team was extremely considerate, respectful, and attentive. A particularly memorable moment was when Alonso provided us with matches and a candle so we didn't have to go outside to get them. This allowed my mom and I to have a special bonding moment, which became the highlight of our trip. The rooms are spacious and clean, while the common areas are filled with art. Every corner has something to admire, making the hotel a visual delight. We loved our experience at Carmen Moreles Hotel! The combination of thoughtful service, beautiful surroundings, and the staff's genuine care made our stay unforgettable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Oaxaca, especially during Día de los Muertos.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Casa Carmen for three nights late August and had a wonderful stay. The hotel is small with just four rooms and is thoughtfully decorated with the art of its patron, Amador Montes. The staff are helpful, kind and courteous and the breakfast is very high quality. The chef, Diana (hope this is spelt correctly) is so warm and creates beautiful and authentic Oaxacan breakfast cuisine. The location is also excellent, being blocks away from the best the city has to offer. If you’re sensitive to road noise you might benefit from staying in a room further back in the property, as trucks and buses do pass by. Otherwise, this hotel is a truly awesome choice when visiting this incredible city.

We had a great stay, the hotel is very well located, the room was spacious and very clean, the bed large and comfortable, the breakfast was simple but good, the staff friendly and you would barely notice they are there, rather quiet even though in front of a road which is rather busy (think the inner rooms are more silent)! Good option to stay in Oaxaca

Booked for Dia de Muertos 2023 in November 2022. In Jan 2023 it was cancelled by the hotel, because they can get more money at this time. Would not return calls. Customer service is non existent, and they are not honest.
