White-jacketed waiters serve Southern Italian specialties at this restaurant dating to 1902.
"Legacy Little Italy restaurant Angelo’s of Mulberry St. is now shuttered following a two-alarm fire Saturday morning that injured 13 people in the building. The 115-year-old restaurant, at 146 Mulberry St. near Grand Street, will be closed for months from the blaze, caused by “accidental, careless discard of smoking materials,” the Times reports. ... Angelo’s has been at that location since 1902, serving Neapolitan and Italian-American food like spaghetti puttanesca and chicken scarpariello to many over the years, including politicians and celebrities like President Ronald Reagan and the basketball player Kobe Bryant. While much of Little Italy at this point has a touristy reputation, Angelo’s has maintained its status as a still-good Italian restaurant." - Stefanie Tuder
