We stayed a week in Mindelo and visited few main restaurants suggested by various guides, but nothing can beat Casa Da Morna, run by host Pedro Fernandes. Pedro has exquisite taste in setting the menu and decorating his restaurant. Just conversation with him worth a visit to this place. We learned a lot about Mindelo and people, also details about the fish and food preparation. We ordered appetizers: ceviche and traditional octopus salad. Both were superb. Having mango in ceviche was a pleasant surprise as well as the absence of hot peppers, usually accompanying Peruvian or Mexican ceviche. We tasted fish, mango and greens! Then we had grilled fish and squid. All portions were very generous and cooked to perfection. We could taste fish and enjoyed every bit of it. Unlike in other places, the grilled fish was deboned and it was nice to eat, without extra fighting! Instead of wine we ordered a liter of white sangria. What a treat! They added also maracuja, water melon, something we never tried before. The service was super fast and courteous. The staff knew what they were doing. The price was similar or maybe a bit more than in few other places, but the quality of food and service makes Casa da Morna the best place in Mindelo for a fine dining. Of course, if you know what fine dining means! :)
