NOT AFRAID TO EAT IN PRAGUE ANYMORE!
Casa de Carli, owned by a lovely couple - the husband, former Cipriani chef, and his wife Lenka. Situated on a beautiful street close to Old Town Square in Prague, and yet quiet and away from the craziness, this is a Class A restaurant with Class B prices! AND IT'S NO SMOKING which, around here is a blessing.
I am from Los Angeles, home of vegan and low calorie/low carb etc restaurants. I was so scared when I came to Prague, where I now live part-time during the year for work, that I would only find meat: everywhere there's meat, meat, meat in this town! Rabbit, bison, deer, raw beef tartare with raw egg on it, pigeon, sweetbreads, brains, liver, etc I can eat those things occasionally but I"m super careful because some of the restaurants here are not famous for their hygiene.THANK GOODNESS FOR CASA DE CARLI! Oh you can get your meat here - the best beef from the Mediterranean, divine fresh fish every day from Italy, Spain, etc, plenty of pate and lamb if you want it. BUT you can also get divine pastas and salads, with tomato sauce, truffles, shrimp, mozzarella or anything else you want. When I'm sick they even make chicken soup for me and deliver it! They have amazing wines by the glass, most of them way cheaper then other continental or Italian restaurants.
The kitchen is IMMACULATE. My husband and I have eaten here maybe 100 times over the past 2 years and we have not once even had the slightest indigestion. This New Years Eve 2013 the restaurant was packed full, both upstairs and downstairs and there was a fixed price menu or you could order whatever you wanted. I ate turkey just like back home and it was amazing. There were lights and fireworks on the beautiful street outside, multi-colored balloons outside and at the stroke of midnight we toasted good friends and good health and fortune with these lovely people.
The restaurant is impressive and classy if you want to bring an important guest and yet it doesn't break your pocketbook. It's also the friendliest place in town. Some of the restaurants (and shoppes) are run by unbelievably unfriendly people. Casa de Carli is the exact opposite, and I love the young people who work there so much I actually bought them all Christmas presents! They are accommodating and really want to please you. I could go on and on about this place, but suffice it to say I wish they had a restaurant in Los Angeles and the first place I come to whenever I land in Prague, even after a 13 hour flight, is Casa de Carli!
