Where To Order Chocolates For Mother's Day

Google
The chocolates were amazing! The frozen chocolate drink, was great! Not too sweet, the quality of the chocolate, you can really taste it! And the tres leches, was something that really took me back in Mexico! I’ll be coming here again.

Ariel N.

Google
Wow. Why did it take me so long to find this amazing place!? Their chocolates are delectable and worthy of praise. But…the frozen Mexican hot chocolate is by far the best frozen drink that I have ever had. It is not a milkshake, but I would drink this over a milkshake from any place at anytime!

Manthan S.

Google
Excellent drinks! So glad that this place doesn’t spam sugar in the hot Choccie like Starbucks. Taste was super rich and flavorful! I loved it so much!

Ingrid T.

Google
We love Casa de Chocolates. Very friendly staff. We go for the tres leches cake and the drinks.

Ingrid Carolina Ramón P.

Google
As a lover of chocolate, this place speaks to my soul. The owner, Linda, is a woman with Indigenous Oaxacan roots who owns and runs this special shop focused on Mesoamerican chocolate. Delectable! Linda gave us a taste of her chocolate and we were blown away by the flavor and quality. Her brother made us the frozen Mexican hot chocolate with salsa macha on top….🤯!! Perfect for treats and gifts, Casa de Chocolates is 100% worth the visit. Chocolate on, my friends! 🍫

Nicholas D.

Google
Specifically reviewing the tres leches cake. I ordered a quarter sheet size (feeds 20-30) and found the cake incredibly delicious. A denser crumb than most TL and redolent with spices. I tried multiple, including the one from market hall, before choosing this one. It’s fantastic.

Google
Jesus was amazing, super helpful, professional, and nice, and gave us a tour and samples. Every employee in the store is very nice too and helpful too. We'll come back for sure! The chocolates were delicious, especially the 'frozen chocolate' Thank you very much

Joe T

Google
One of the best chocolates I've had, ever! Flavors that blend perfectly that you have now heard or thought of, and taste absolutely perfect and delicious!

Yelp
My wife has mentioned this place multiple times to the point that she insisted on us going to Berkeley and getting chocolate drinks from here. I love chocolate, but I always found chocolate drinks to be too sweet for me, until this place. From the flavor of the chocolate drink alone, they're chocolate-centric to the point you can taste the coating of it still on your tongue. My wife got the hot drink while I got the cold one, and either way you take it, you won't regret your decision! Unfortunately we didn't give any to our dog for obvious reasons, but they were kind enough to provide water to our girl when they found out we were seated outside with her. Thank you very much!

Yelp
I can't say much about the shop's ambiance or service, but I can say plenty about the chocolates! I was gifted a box from one of my friends as a belated birthday gift and found myself in love with the quality and rich flavors. In the box, I had the following: - Brazilian Sea Salt 5/5 (DELICIOUS! Satisfied my sweet tooth but also balanced it out.) - Mexican Vanilla 5/5 (This was on par with the sea salt one but surprisingly subtle in taste. It felt like a more *demure* snack.) - Tequila 3/5 (I'm not too big of an alcohol in chocolate fan but this was decent!) - Guayaba 5/5 (Smooth inside and definitely more fruity and sweet than the others) - Mole 3/5 (Decent; a lil thick, but the dark chocolate balanced it out) - Mayan Espresso 5/5 (Strong, rich flavor that I deeply appreciated) The quality and variety of chocolates here are definitely heavy hitters and you can tell by the presentation and the little glimpses of culture in each piece. Definitely would come here myself just to experience other items offered as well as the shop's vibes!

Yelp
I always go to the one star reviews, and since I've been coming here for awhile, I thought I'd give a little feedback about those reviews, and share my experience with this place: 1 Star reviews: Really, don't even bother reading. The old guard is out, in with the new and improved. Shop: Small, clean, artistic. Staff: Very welcoming, will offer samples, focused on making amazing chocolates. Price: A tad bit spendy, but if people are willing to pay these kinds of prices in this economy, take advantage. Flavorful chocolates, spicy hot chocolate that, at times, I prefer over coffee, and chocolate cake that was made in heaven. I do enjoy an occasional tres leches, and I'm sure it's the bomb (apparently not getting this cake utterly DESTROYED someone's day/week/life) so I'll have to get a slice next go around. Enjoy.

Yelp
Finally was able to stop by and try one of their frozen hot chocolate milkshakes! Not too sweet with a hint of Mexican chocolate and homemade whipped cream. They have other little goodies such as chocolate truffles, baked goods and chocolate candies. Great little store with friendly staff.

Yelp
C'est Excellente for small pituitary mercado.de chocolate' shoppe. It's REAL . And experience Latin choco as well! Even sipping and 3 kinds of hot chocolate! But go there for the Mission Chocolates but their own is aweso.e! SOany unique flavors to go buy and tastings! Secret right two doors down from fluffy dream donuts. Buy it does open a little later. Worth the wait to 11am.! I had passion and Irish cream a d Kaluhua. But the winner here was the square sugar free bar 90% you could actually TASTE THE COCOA [cow ca kow] pod beans. They actually have flavors for all. Such a great great variety. You're missing out if you eat chocolate, unlike Hannas' and try this another women owned business LOCAL!!!

Yelp
The chocolate is beyond wonderful. However, for the third year in a row, the in-shop experience was off-putting. I ordered almost $300 of chocolate online about a month ago. I arrived at the designated time and had to wait for about 15 min in line - okay - understandable and great to see a shop with so much activity. I get to the register and the guy asks me for my order number. I said I had no idea and gave him my name. He did not exactly roll his eyes, but he looked at me like I had just committed the most unimaginable rudeness. "Oh, now we will have to look it up in the system - huff. " It took his co-worker about 20 seconds to find my order by my name. I spent a lot of money there to have to deal with a snippy employee. Strike 3. not going back.

Yelp
Casa de chocolates has been a staple in my household for all major events since college. They have the cutest valentines boxes and assortments along with very seasonal fall designs on their bonbons. Nestled off to the side from the quiet and romantic college ave is this authentic Latinx chocolate shop! They have an amazing story rooted in community investment that I read on linkedin! They also have it under their about section online. I come here every chance I can, and try to bring new faces whenever possible, because the magic of this shop cannot be found ANYWHERE else in California. The chocolate and sweets are all rooted so deeply in mesoamerican culture, I love bringing my older family members here to give them a taste of home away from home. From the designs to the flavors, Casa de Chocolates embodies a sense of belonging for me that I can only find when I go back home to Mexico -- so I guess this is my comfort place to a certain extent haha! This is a small but very popular shop that makes everything in house so please be patient with the staff! I promise it's worth the wait. My personal favorites are the 24-pack of chocolate. bonbons and the Frozen Hot Chocolate! The Frozen Hot Chocolate tastes just like abuelita but in the form of a slushee! It is very chocolate-y, not too sweet, and super slushee. They have a massive variety of bonbons to choose from, I like getting the 24-pack to try as many of them as I can but some of my favorites include: Mexican vanilla, chipotle, mole, Tapatio, cajeta, guayana, and Chile naranja.

Tom N.

Yelp
I used to love stopping in for a frozen hot chocolate but the price just went up 50%. I asked about that and they told me that the supply price of their chocolate went up by 30 percent. I'm pretty good at math...
google avatar

Kristina L.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place. Definition of a small mom and pop shop. The quality of the ingredients is amazing my favorite cream beer besides the cakes is the frozen hot chocolate. It's not like anything I've ever tried before. Beautiful clean and the employees are very kind and helpful. Definitely recommend and will be coming back multiple times.
google avatar

Yelp
While exploring the neighborhood during a recent visit to the Bay, I discovered this wonderful chocolate shop! They have so many different chocolates to choose from! And amazing coffee as well. I picked up macaroons and a huge cupcake for future treats. The staff were friendly and helpful while I was taking my time looking at everything trying to decide which chocolate to enjoy. Although a small space, the layout of Casa De Chocolates is inviting with the main display of chocolates facing the front door and various chocolate products on each side. Def a reasonably priced treat place!

Julie A.

Yelp
Wonderful chocolate shop! I get my client gifts here now, and people rave about them. Must not miss Berkeley shop!!

Yelp
Artisanal small batch, hecho a mano bon-bons inspired by sabores Mexicanos? Yes, please! I've tried the Mexican Assortment, the Chile Assortment that's spicy, and the Fruity Assortmentand love all three box selections. There are exquisite flavors, like tequila, chipotle, mole, tamarindo, chipotle caramel, naranja, tapatio, guayaba, maracuya caramel, and Mexican vanilla. Impressive artistry, which makes these perfect for gift-giving. The people here are friendly, knowledgeable, and you always get great service. Highly recommend trying a box of their chocolates.

Tanisha K.

Yelp
Mexican hot chocolate is delectable! Such a rich chocolate flavor, perfect amount of sweetness, and enhanced with a touch of chilli. Truly one of the best I've had. Chocolate cake is moist and decadent, frosting could be sweeter but overall very high quality and good prices
google avatar

Yelp
I came here to pick up a few boxes of chocolate for myself and Christmas gifts. To my surprise, the recipes have changed. The shells of the chocolates are now thinner and don't have the "crunchy" when you bite into them. The filling is runny, not like it use to be. I am so disappointed. The chocolates are still pretty good, but i don't find the prices justify the quality. I have been coming here for years. I love treating myself and giving these as gifts. I'm not sure i'll be coming back.
google avatar

Sarah D.

Yelp
I'm obsessed with this place and have tried just about everything. My all time favorite is the cold hot chocolate (chocolate milkshake)
google avatar

Samantha S.

Yelp
Casa de chocolates is one of the best places I've ever had the chance to visit. It's changed my life. I go every once in a while and each time I am given more reasons to love this business. The food is amazing and let's just say the frozen hot chocolate is addictive. The shop is small but filled with love and amazing vibes! Definitely worth the visit if you are in the area!
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
I am OBSESSED with this place. I'm not a fan of chocolate drinks but the chocolate drink here is TO DIE FOR. You can tell the chocolate is authentic and not like those that use synthetic flavoring. Another thing I keep coming back for are the chocolate truffles in the photo. Definitely try it. Staff are so sweet too!
google avatar

Rosie S.

Yelp
Best tres leches and Frozen hot chocolate I've had. The people are friendly staff and super helpful. Definitely good vibes and good chocolate
google avatar

Yelp
Company emailed me, sent a new batch, and apologized for the inconvenience. Still a little scarred from the plastic though.

Yelp
A great experience - they are generous and customer centric and let us try out some of their bonbons . All very yummy and rich We needed up ordering the frozen hot chocolate and the hot chocolate - both very good . We didn't see any menu, so you might need to just ask them at the counter . Their cakes also looked yummy (especially that tres leches one...) but we didn't had any capacity to try them out ....have to leave something for next time !
google avatar

R D.

Yelp
Just stepping into this shop is a heavenly experience. And to top it off, the staff couldn't be friendlier and more helpful. Last time I was in they were "forcing" free samples on me (wink wink). I purchased a few different sampler boxes as gifts (one for me, one for the birthday boy). You cannot go wrong here - every little bit is an incredible treat!

Yelp
Casa de Chocolates is a chocolate shop that I've been to a couple times in Berkeley, and I have to say I really enjoy what they have here! Although the shop is on the smaller side, they do have quite a wide variety of chocolates with many different interesting flavors. The people working here are nice, and usually are fine with giving out free samples. The chocolate here is also high-quality, as they are very rich and have some pretty unique flavor blends. Some of the items I've gotten from here include the Chile Mango chocolate bar, the Tres Leches cake, and the Frozen hot chocolate. The mango chocolate bar is made of dark chocolate combined with fresh mango and chili flakes, which is a fantastic combo. The Tres Leches cake is quite spongy, if you like very sweet desserts then you'll definitely enjoy this one. The frozen hot chocolate is a drink that I haven't seen in many other places, and it has a creamy consistency and a great chocolate flavor. Highly recommend visiting this place if you're ever around the area!

Yelp
Cute shop selling south american chocolate treats, delicious but pricey chocolate confections with fancy presentation ideal for gift-giving. We got some chocolate truffles and almond & brazilian sea salt chocolate bars, but they also sell hot and cold beverages like mexican hot chocolate, which looked quite tempting. Service was standard, no complaints.
google avatar

Ruba R.

Yelp
I LOVE coming here whenever I am visiting the Bay Area! Their frozen hot chocolate is amazingly good! I especially love their homemade whipped cream they put on top. A must try place if you haven't been yet.
google avatar

Carolina S.

Yelp
I consider Casa de Chocolates to be one of the best businesses in the SF Bay Area. They create L.A.Burdick-quality chocolates, pastries, drinks, and desserts, with a Mesoamerican flair. The people working here are passionate, helpful and kind. The shop itself is adorable. Of the many chocolate shops around UC Berkeley, *this* is the one to visit and remember.
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
Cute little shop full of chocolates galore! Definitely get the frozen hot chocolate, best drink in town. Seriously gives you that sugar high that also feels fresh! I should've gotten two... Welcome and friendly workers behind the dessert case. And they're ready to answer any questions you have. I also should've asked if they give out samples. Adorable hidden gem that you won't regret stopping in!

Yelp
The best chocolatier in the East Bay. A huge bonus that this spot is run by a Latina with pride in supporting Black and Brown owned businesses as I've seen owner partner up with Kingston 11 on a rum and chocolate tasting event many years ago. They're chocolates are all incredible and they have a huge selection for every taste imaginable. They are my go to gifts that have yet to disappoint anyone I've given them too. I recently made a life changing discovery that they do special cake orders for the holidays and their chocolate cake was divine. It wasn't too decadent and perfectly moist. It was a huge hit with the entire family and I had so much that I froze some leftovers. I cannot wait for the moment it makes a comeback. I'll be ordering again for Christmas and hope to be able to try the flan this time around. My only gripe is that parking in this area is difficult so make some time to drive around unless you get lucky.
google avatar

Jack R.

Yelp
The plus about this place is a free chocolate with check in. Here's the thing the chocolate is okay...not outstanding just okay. The kahlua didn't have that coffee flavor to it and just tasted more like a chocolate ganache. My friend's chocolate also lacked the flavor. The mexican hot chocolate was watered down and honestly didn't have a kick or bite to it. The tres leches cake was well...super disappointing...we each took a bite and that was that. I can't see myself coming back here again...honestly not even for the chocolates which are like See's candy with a prettier color and different flavors.

Issiah I.

Yelp
The store is cute and the workers are swift. And I f*cking love their iced hot chocolate drink. 10/10 coming back again.

Yelp
SIMPLY THE BEST CHOCOLATES AROUND!! The most unique flavors and designs. Like a piece of art. Yes, a little pricey, but so worth the splurge! We live in the S Bay, so mostly order online. Every time we need to call for questions or get extra help, the staff are super friendly and helpful. Knowing now that the original owners have passed the torch to their 1st two (UC Berkeley student) employees Linda Sanchez and Jesus Chavez makes us champion Casa de Chocolates even harder!! (Story link below) Tapatío, Mole and Tequila bon bons are favorites, but honestly can't go wrong with any of the others. Below are pix of the last two orders we sent to family for Love day (2/14/23). The large heart (33 pieces) was sent to our daughter away at college in LA. We ordered the largest box so she could share with roommates and friends on campus. When we told her this, she said, "Oh! I'm not sharing THESE!!" Lol!! Just asked her, almost 3 weeks later, if she has any left and she said, "yup!" Such restraint!! Had a box sent to my parents as well and they REFUSED to share with others. I mean your chocolates are awesome, but they are turning family members into evil selfish brats!! LOL!! Thank you, Casa de Chocolates for making so many of our family members, friends and us happy!! https://edibleeastbay.com/2022/12/30/a-chocolate-legacy-continues-at-casa-de-chocolates-in-berkeley/

Yelp
Tiny quaint shop that smells amazing as soon as you walk in. The beautiful artistry of the chocolates-makes you not want to eat them. The hot chocolate with chile flakes intensifies the delicious chocolate flavor. It takes you back to a little town in Mexico with its decor and aromas. I got all most everything laugh out loud and a 3 leches cake that was amazing and so good. It really reminded me of eating arroz con leche to be honest. A must in Berkeley!!! :)
google avatar

JoAnn S.

Yelp
Casa de Chocolates is probably not for someone who fantasizes of an American candy bar when they think of chocolate. Chocolate connoisseurs--check this place out! They make Brazillian, Incan, Peruvian, and Mexican chocolates. They use organic ingredients when available. They also make chocolates with stevia, and create vegan varieties. I got one small beautifully rendered chocolate candy for $2.50. It was beautiful enough to wear as jewelry, but I ate it instead. So rich and dense!!! Next time I am in the neighborhood, I will stop in for a artisanal treat. Maybe I will try their frozen hot chocolate or compare chocolates from Brazil and Peru?
google avatar

Cari A.

Yelp
Everything here is absolutely delicious. Pros: -I love that their cakes are small yet large enough to share -their frozen hot chocolate is soo good! -they wrap up their chocolates so beautifully -my favorite chocolates were the Kahlua, cajeta caramel, and mole Cons -n/a Other: -one person/group at a time -no indoor seating -street parking

Yelp
Casa De Chocolates produces artisanal, hand-crafted, works of chocolate art derived from Latin flavors. Casa De Chocolates also apparently hacked into my brain's primitive reward circuitry in the ventral tegmental area by pumping up the dopamine, inhibiting the serotonin, and taking my nucleus accumbens to the fourth base on the first date! (Forgive the neuro reference it's my job). Normally, eating chocolate is something one doesn't think too much about (i.e. popping some pedestrian Hershey's into your mouth); however, occasionally, eating chocolate can be transformative. For example, when I was gifted a box of 12 bonbons, eating chocolate became an experience. When I opened the box, I was struck by the variety of designs and just how photogenic the pieces of chocolate were. I couldn't resist going paparazzi on them before and during consumption. Each taste in the 12 piece variety box (30.00$) was like a little decadent trip to a different place--there were tastes of mole, tequila, passion fruit, caramel, guava, cinnamon, tamarind, vanilla caramel, cajeta (a goat milk caramel). A favorite was the geometrically-delicious Lavanda with its dark chocolate, lavender, and mint undertones. There's nothing much more to say than you deserve to try these; you are worth it; you deserve the dopamine hit! Gifting these to someone would also earn you tons of brownie-points to

Yelp
My friend bought us a box of chocolate, 6-piece Bonbon Collection, from Casa De Chocolates as a birthday gift. We were impressed with its wrapping, classy and elegant. Each chocolate looked delicate and too beautiful to eat. It also tasted delicious, smooth and is perfectly matched with the filling.
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
I visited Casa de Chocolates to get some artesian chocolate for someone as a gift. It's a small storefront and only two people were allowed inside at once so we did have to wait a short while. When stepping inside, it feels a bit magical because you're around so much chocolate. We were greeted and offered a free bonbon to sample (without the Yelp check-in!). I got to try the Brazilian sea salt caramel and WOW it was amazing. Smooth chocolate enhanced by the kick of sea salt. So good! There were so many different flavors to choose from-- some classic, some tropical, some very unique. The lady offered many suggestions and recommendations which made the selection process much easier. $18 for 6PC, $30 for 12PC, $52 for 24PC. If I'm in the area, I would come back to try their chocolate drinks!
google avatar

Magda M.

Yelp
The best spot in the neighborhood for grabbing a gift that NO ONE would never need to return. These chocolates are sooooo delightful. I've never had one that was anything less than delicious!! I love all the fruit ones, even though I'm typically not chocolate and fruit kinda gal. But seriously, you can't go wrong with any of the chocolates. The boxes and box are extra cute too. Grab some today whenever you are in the neighborhood! Bonus, staff are friendly and kind.
google avatar

Alexandra B.

Yelp
Impressive, artisanal chocolates are sold here. They are very tasty and make unique gifts. The frozen hot chocolate is heavenly.

Yelp
Unusual and delicious chocolates, often with various Mexican spices. A little pricey, but well worth it!

Yelp
Casa De Chocolates is my absolute favorite chocolate place of all time hands down! Although it is quite a while away from the UC Berkeley campus, it is well worth the journey! Every chocolate that Casa de chocolates has is articulately crafted and a unique blend of flavors that cannot be found in other chocolate store or mainstream chocolate retailers. Their chocolate bars are always amazing and rich and make good gifts at $7 per bar or 3 bars for $20. My go to desserts are the: Chile Mango chocolate bar (5/5): Perfect blend of semi-sweet dark chocolate with chili flakes and chunks of sweetened fresh mango scattered throughout with every bite. Mole chocolate bar (5/5): A rich deep semi-sweet dark chocolate with a lingering spice blend. The Guayaba (5/5): A guava filled chocolate with a hard dark chocolate outer shell and a gooey sweet guava jam filling. Tres Leches cake (4/5): A bit too sweet for my liking, but spongey, milky and oozing with a sweet condensed milk flavoring, and moist to perfection. Frozen hot chocolate with whipped cream (5/5): MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. This drink tastes like frozen liquified nutella with a creamy consistency and a kick of chili mixed into the chocolate along with coco nibs is absolutely divine. Definitely visit Casa De Chocolates if you are a chocolate lover, for an amazing Valentines Day Chocolate gift, or if you are in the mood to sample unique blends of Mexican rich chocolate flavors you can't find anywhere else! *Also Note they have a $5 minimum for credit card purchases*

Yelp
I love supporting family owned and small local business. If you want delicious chocolate unique flavors and taste come to this place. Literally 20 feet away from my other favorite Italian restaurant spot in Berkeley. I tried the coconut and tamarind chocolates and sea salt pistachio all dark chocolate and seriously it just melts in your mouth. Love love Dark chocolate definitely not cheap but worth it and the calories.

Yelp
I noticed a few people waiting outside of this place so I went up to check out what they offered. It's take out only so I wasn't able to walk inside. They had a glass screen and a ya Le blocking the door with their cash register. The menu consisted of a few chocolate pieces, bars, some Mexican chocolate drinks and desserts. Out of the three desserts, I wanted to try the tees leches because I haven't had amazing tres leches yet. Wooow.... 10/10 would recommend the tres leches. It has the perfect amount of sweet and was cold enough to enjoy on a sunny day. Portion size was enough for two people and it was only $5. I would've bought a cake sized one if they offered it. It was that good. We also bought a lavender rose chocolate bar but the chocolate overpowered the other flavors. I'm adding this place on my list of must have desserts. Will be back weekly lol
google avatar

Caroline C.

Yelp
The line was super long and well out the door. Since the staff rushed me a bit, I just asked for a random assortment of their most popular chocolates. This place offers more artisanal chocolates that aren't necessarily super sweet. They were expensive, but the chocolates are high quality and beautifully decorated. Even the presentation was neat; they were packaged in a hard box and ribbon and came with a pamphlet describing the flavours. The frozen hot chocolate was amazing, and I would definitely come back for it again when the store is less crowded.
google avatar

Melinda R.

Yelp
I didn't realize that this place is around the corner from Alta Bates in Berkeley. My co-worker and I walked here from work during our lunch and purchased a frozen hot chocolate. It was really yummy. The chocolate was dark enough and the combination of the sweetness is just right! This was considered lunch but definitely a treat! Love it!
google avatar

Connie W.

Yelp
1 free bonbon with yelp check in (worth $2.50) - shiny decorative chocolate shell, filled with various flavors. I got coconut caramel, guava, kailua, mole. All were very good but expensive. Hubby said "we never buy those", I replied "we buy it when we are on vacation so we are on vacation today". Tres leche cake - very popular in reviews, appreciate that it is not too sweet, but I felt it was just OK. Hot chocolate - just a tad of kick to it but too watery for my liking.
google avatar

Yelp
Pearla from Casa De Chocolates was so kind and patient while I was searching for gifts for family who live internationally. Pearla gave great suggestions and neatly wrapped all the boxes for family. It was a hit! The shop is in Elmwood and the ambiance inside is very neat and tidy. My goal is to try the frozen hot chocolate during my next visit!
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
My go to when I am in need of fancy chocolates. They also have amazingly delicious hot chocolate and Tres Leche cake. My favorite chocolates are Guayaba and Tamarind, honestly though you can't go wrong with any of their options. They carry spicy and boozy options as well!

Yelp
Unique neighborhood chocolate shoppe with an artistic and Mexican twist. Case de Chocolates es "Arte de Dulces"! Actually how many neighborhoods have an artistic chocolate shoppe? Not many, so count your blessings citizens of this area! CDC is located on busy Ashby near College Avenue with metered street parking and a loading zone in front of the shoppe. Imagine the shoppe where Charlie Bucket bought the chocolate bar with the Golden Ticket - the glass, wood, brick, accentuated with chocolate on shelves, glass display cases, and small merchandise tables. The place just smells of intoxicating chocolate. Cool. As per the name, CDC has some unique chocolates, some with a Mexican and / or a tropical slant: Mole, Chile, Ginger, Tequila, Metzcal, Guava, Tamarind, etc. The wife picked and chose 12 various pieces both for looks and uniqueness. We really didn't want to eat them as they are individual works of art. But you'll have that dazed, satisfying look on your face when you do partake. The CDC also has frozen chocolate drinks, cupcakes, candy bars, and other goodies. The frozen hot chocolate is popular as we had one (nice chile touch to it) and they sold a handful while we were there. Step back in time and visit this homey shoppe, we're glad we did and will be back when we're in the area! Nice helpful and patient staff as it took time for us to pick after asking about all of the pieces. So lucky of a neighborhood.

Yelp
spontaneously walked into this cute little shop after my cold plunge on my "time of month" if u know what i mean, ladies ;) so my body needed some sort of magnesium to help w/ cramps & chocolate was indeed calling my name. i got the mexican hot chocolate and spoiled myself with dark chocolate to go. if u don't eat sugar like me, they have stevia alternatives. ohhh andddd customer service was helpful, patient, and answered all of my questions :)
