A Quest For Ximbo, Chicken Barbacoa, in the Bay Area | Eater LA

"I often pull off at Casa de Fruta off the Pacheco Pass for a quick, nostalgic pit stop — on this trip I grabbed some novelty blackberry wine — it’s one of the handful of reliable roadside stops that break up the monotony of the I-5 drive." - Bill Esparza

It's like Disney took over a fruit stand. Tons of incredible food and gifts with massive variety. Bring your kids on the weekend, they'll go nuts with all the stuff to do and see. My only critique is the packaged items were a bit over-priced, but I am a pretty frugal shopper. Looks like there are coupons so Im looking forward to shopping a bit more next time.

Google
Great place to stop and have a good breakfast and but some fruits and nuts, dried fruit, chocolates, and olive oil and other groceries. Plus they have park like area for kids. Nice place to spend a day or afternoon. Not a hotel! It's a restaurant and stop after traveling but also to fo some shopping like at a restaurant stop only much more. Family oriented with train rides and s playground and a pond. Ducks roaming about. Fun place .

Google
After Renaissance Faire this is the perfect place to stop for dinner. The prime rib was perfect. Only about a 20 minute wait on a busy weekend night! Our waitress was superb, I think her name was Amy? She gave the best service! Love this plaza! Has a candy store, great general store, and a carousel and park area for kids!

Corissa H.

Google
We dined inside, place was packed but it only took a 5 minute wait for a 2 person table. They don't allow your doggo inside where service is, but you can sit outside and get your food to go. Big picture windows, always clean giving much light and views to rolling hills. Food is always delicious. I ordered the prime rib sandwich with potato salad and extra pickles. Not a fan of horseradish sauce, but easily ordered w/out it.

Google
My absolute favorite secret truck stop. I only get to come here once a year. I will go way out of my way to spend a night or two in the truck here. What I love most about it is the friendly Pea Hens walking around all the visitors.

Google
Always love stopping by after camping trips. It’s a nice little stop for snacks food, and other things like wine and fruit. I love the sugar free chocolate but they are about $20/lb. Must stop here! The train ride is cute and fun for like $5/person.

MIST VISIT! This was a fun stop that I have passed by for years because I didn't know they had so much to see and do!! We walked around the property to stretch our legs and saw so many things they have to offer..... Playground Sluicing (mining for gold) Carousel 🎠 Trains to take pictures with Trains to RIDE! Wild Life (LOVED THE TURTLES) Restaurant Fruit stand with lots of snacks. Ice Cream shop Wine & Deli Water Mill Dog park poop area Huge parking for cars RVs big trucks Inn and Cabin rentals And an RV Park.... Wow The Train Conductor was so friendly and happy to talk with us. I got a video of him getting the train ready for the day. THANK YOU CONDUCTOR sorry I forgot your name. We will be back for the train ride. We are planing a day trip with our dog so we can spend more time here. We didn't get to experience everything because it was a quick stop to our destination. The chocolate covered strawberries are a must have treat! Delicious 😋 We spent around $10 for the cup & was worth it. Parking is free We will be back!!!

Yelp
My husband and I came to Hollister for birdwatching. But the great surprise was Casa de Fruta. This little part of Hollister is just adorable. The restaurant has the best breakfast I've ever had. Oh my God, the bacon, you have to have the bacon, it's from a local meat market. Everything was delicious and at a reasonable price. Included with our meal was a fresh winter fruit salad with persimmons, cactus fruit, and kiwi. What a treat. The service was excellent. The restaurant staff was so attentive they kept coming back, offering us more delicious coffee. We stayed overnight at the Casa de Fruta Inn. It was a warm cozy stay with a big king bed, and plenty of comfy pillows!! We will make this an annual stop for bird watching.

Yelp
In my opinion Casa de Fruta should be designated as a historic landmark. I've been coming here most of my life as you pass by it while on the Pacheco Pass Highway on your way to the Bay Area from the Central Valley. There is so much to see and do and eat, but it's very commercialized compared to the old days of the fruit stand and restaurant. CdF is a lovely place to visit and stretch your legs during a long drive. There is the restaurant, Ice Cream Shop, Wine Shop and Deli. Service is okay and could be friendlier but the grounds are very beautiful and worth a visit. I stop there every time I head to Santa Cruz and cannot wait to visit again.

Yelp
We've come here a few times and each time there's a steady stream of customers coming by. This place does leave me a little unsettled because of some random pricing. For example, I saw a small box of chocolate covered cherries for almost $30. We ordered a double-scoop ice cream and the waffle cone was fresh. The ice cream was also home-made and had good flavors -- blueberry cheesecake and cherry ice cream. Overall this is a solid ice cream place.

Yelp
**October 2025: Sunday Afternoon** My friend and I were driving home from Gilroy and saw a big sign on the freeway that advertised pomegranate wine. I was intrigued and asked my friend if we could make a detour. As we made the exit what we didn't know was that Casa de Fruta was a destination for the Nor Cal Renaissance Fair - so getting off the freeway did require a bit of effort and there were a LOT of cars in the area. Thankfully, we were able to secure a parking spot right in front of the Casa de Fruta restaurant and gift shop so we were able to check it out pretty smoothly. We entered the shop and wow it totally reminds me of Knott's Berry Farm. There were many different nuts, fruits, jams, and other artisanal goodies throughout the shop. As we walked further into the shop we noticed a big island of pies. I glanced through a bunch of them and another random customer told me that the "Fruit of the Forest pie" (berries, apples and rhubarb) was a hit at her family gathering. With such a positive endorsement I decided to pick that up as well as a pecan pie. Let me just say that the Forest Pie ($19.99) definitely earned me some brownie points at work lol and that the pecan pie ($15.99) basically disappeared at bible study. Near the other side of the gift shop we saw a wine sampling area as well as a bunch of red and fruit wines. I sampled the fruit wines and while I really enjoyed the mango one, I still felt that the pomegranate was very unique and picked up two bottles ($20.99 each) to gift. The gift shop has a big assortment of edible souvenirs and while the dried fruits, nuts, jams were all packaged beautifully, the prices were definitely premium. I would return and pick up more pies because those were very popular! and maybe even stay at one of their cabins because it looked cozy! I will definitely be back!

Yelp
I love stopping by Casa de Fruta whenever we're passing through Hollister. It's like stepping back into time with their outdoor structures (double-decker carousel, train, children's playground) and their old-styled buildings. They have a restaurant, they sell wine, fresh fruit and dried fruit and nuts, and miscellaneous merchandise. It's an absolute blast and such a great backdrop for pictures. We either stay for brunch or pick up dried fruits. Service is friendly and they're happy to provide samples.

Yelp
If you're traveling through, Casa De Fruta provides a great experience for the perfect pit stop. You can use the restrooms, see some ducks or peacocks wandering around, or turtles near the pond, stretch your legs.... Grab a snack, lunch, wine or some produce and goodies to go. They have a carousal and small train that run seasonally and during busier times like weekends. You can grab a sandwich to go, an ice cream cone, or sit down at the sit down restaurant they have for a diner style lunch before you get back on the road. They have wine tasting, a large variety of specialty jams and dried fruits, chocolates, fresh produce and more. It's definitely worth making a stop here if you're driving through and need to stretch your legs!

Yelp
We went to the grocery store, coffee & sweets, wine & deli and the restaurant. Every service and cashier were super helpful. Just walking around, very down to earth place. We just wanted to spend a few hours checking out this place in full, but I didn't have time for the choochoo ride. I would've loved it, like all the kids! So yes, this is an adult and kid friendly place. Check this place out if you've never been, worth the travel.

Yelp
We have been coming to Casa de Fruta for over 45 years! The fruit stand and the restaurant are the main reasons we drop in, but there is also a sweet shop, wine shop and a gas station. The main bathrooms are outside the stand and wheelchair and walker accessible. However, if you have any gait issues, please be aware that the red bricks are not mortared in and wiggle a bit. The bathrooms are usually clean which is nice, there is handicap accessible parking and ramps and lots of places to walk and explore and things like a train caboose which make for cute photo ops! The restaurant is open 24/7 which is why we always stop. Not only can you get a party melt and a slice of pie at 3am but if you need to rest your eyes you can nap in your car in front of the restaurant and not worry. The waitstaff is always friendly and the kitchen accommodates changes to your order! There are a few cons, but most of them have to do with issues that might not be policy anymore.

Yelp
This is a nifty pitstop & fun experience. It's also nostalgic since I grew up in the area. There's a variety of shopping, eating, & drinking available, as well as lodging options. The main Fruit Stand offers a lot to see. It is large, clean, & well organized, with workers keeping things maintained. There is produce, nuts, dried fruits, pickled items, beverages, specialty condiments, olives, wine & wine tasting, popcorn, pies, teas, candy, chocolates, candied apples, ice cream, & more. Non-food items include souvenirs, home goods & decor, stickers, jewelry, sunglasses, magnets, & keychains. Our check out experience left a lot to be desired--barely acknowledged, perfunctory, & our checker started talking to another worker & left before we even gathered our purchases to go. However, the man giving out samples was very friendly to interact with. Other shops on the premises-- Casa de Restaurant Casa de Burrito Casa de Sweets--coffee beverages, ice cream, toys, snacks, purchase ride tickets here Casa de Wine--wine, deli section with signature sandwiches, gourmet grocery items Some neat to do's-- Train Ride--fun activity that lasts about 12 min, passes small prop buildings, nature settings, & goes through a little tunnel Carousel Ride Selfies with the use of phone stands around the premises that allow you to use timer & get the whole group See random animals--ducks & turtles in a pond, chicken, squirrels, peacocks Train car & engine for kids to climb & take cute photos Restroom facilities were decently maintained. Parking is available in different lots & there is a charging station area.

Yelp
A great place to pit if you need a break from your drive. School trips always stop here so restroom can get packed. Nice area to shop local stuff. Love their ice cream store. Love their restaurant. (To-Go order came out fast.)

Yelp
What happened to Casa De Fruita They changed their menu No more Prime Rib which is what they were known for and No more Biscuits and Gravy No more Corn Beef Hash No more Tri Tip and eggs Chicken Fried Steak don't come with toast We don't think we will remain regulars here anymore prices are up menu is down. You don't try to fix what's not broken, whoever made this decision made a poor decision. I'm sure Casa De Fruita will suffer for it. Bring back your old Menu and Prices. One thing we do love and will miss is the customer service the employees are so very friendly.

Yelp
Great little place to stop weather you come and visit or for a resting spot. The shops have some pretty amazing stuff, from jelly's, wine, dried fruit, flavored nuts and so on. It also has a playground area for the kids, a carousel and a train ride that's fun for everyone to enjoy, the prices for the rides are reasonable. There's also an ice cream shop that sells tons of different flavors, this is where you can also come in and get the tickets for the rides.

Yelp
As locals, Casa de Fruta has always been our go to when my family all wants a different type of meal. Breakfast, sandwiches, salads and dinner entrees were perfect options. Tonight we came in excited to eat our usual favorites only to be disappointed with the new menu changes. Half our party of 6 wanted breakfast and we're bummed to see breakfast wasn't available after 2pm. Then we looked to our standard menu selection items (quesadilla, kids pizza, appetizer sampler, turkey wrap) and so many things were just off the menu. Two members of our party didn't even wind up eating because nothing looked good, 1 person ordered a burger and the waitress came back noting they were out of buns. I typically order the Chicken Cobb salad but saw the menu change would price it out around $25 and I just couldn't justify the price for the salad at Casa de Fruta. 1 person ordered the fried chicken and it looked like a premade frozen chicken patty rather than the delicious and yummy chicken we were used to ordering. Our waitress was great as always. We were just super disappointed in so many changes and the removal of 24-hr breakfast. Sadly we don't think we'll be back for a while. We hope management will hear us locals and bring back 24-hr breakfast as I'm sure travelers will appreciate this option as well.

Yelp
Come on down to the House of Fruit! For context, I live in Bakersfield CA but have family up north so we always make it a point to stop here and get all that we need. Sweets, coffee, cakes, and more dried fruit than you can shake a stick at. If you enjoy the casual garden bling or sunshine flag they got ya covered. There are two things that you should watch out for. 1 Tour buses, the lines can be really long and tourists can be dicey. 2 The wild life. Ducks, Peacocks and other no feathered foes can be very aggressive when it comes to food. You may think you're being nice by tossing some peanuts out the window. Wrong! The ducks will setup shop under your car until you find something better to toss out. But who doesn't love a good comedy hour while on a 4 hour road trip? Over all this place is historic, fun and worth the long car ride.

Yelp
Casa de Fruta is a Quirky, Family-Friendly Roadside gem with so much to do. Nestled along Pacheco Pass on Highway 152, between South Almaden Valley and the Central Valley, Casa de Fruta has grown from a humble produce stand into a full-fledged roadside attraction--and it's a delightful place to stretch your legs (and maybe your wallet). While not flashy or upscale, Casa de Fruta has charm in spades and enough to keep the whole family entertained for an hour or two. Behind the main shops, you'll find a fishpond, a carousel, a miniature train, and other kid-friendly activities. During the fall, the property transforms into a vibrant pumpkin patch, complete with one of the largest selections around--minus the actual field. The main marketplace features an impressive variety of homemade candies, fresh and dried fruits, jams, nuts (including spiced and salted pistachios), and even local wine and tequila. Casa de Sweet offers a combination candy store, deli, and coffee shop with novelty items ranging from chocolate-covered treats to quirky retro lunchboxes, and even Hello Kitty-themed goodies. Casa de Wines serves local wines and sandwiches, while the Casa de Restaurant provides a standard roadside diner experience--nothing fancy, but perfect for a quick bite. The diner always has the yummiest pies and the freshest food. There's also a large carousel, train, and playground, making it a fun stopover, especially for families road-tripping between the mountains and the coast. My daughter and father love riding the carousel, and it is a great memory we've created throughout the generations. The facilities are so-so. There's so much traffic that the restrooms get a little messy and uncut. However, the staff are generally friendly, and the atmosphere is playful and inviting. Casa de Fruta isn't just a pit stop--it's a pleasant little detour worth planning into your journey. Casa de Fruta has been a stop for us for generations.

Yelp
Love this road trip pit stop! It's got a charming, nostalgic vibe. What more can you ask for while getting in that long car ride rest! It's got your restrooms, a restaurant if you want a full meal, a country like farm store full of goodies like nuts, popcorn, produce, candies, olive oils, dressing, seasonings, etc, a playground, train ride, carousel, a large parking lot, and best of all - wine tasting! You can spend hours here! Watch out for the quacking ducks that will follow you for popcorn! What I love most is the childhood memories it brings back of making road trip stops that offer a glimpse of a step back in time.

Yelp
Stopped here on our way back to Orange County. Came here around 6 years ago and pleasantly surprised to see the property and vibes are exactly the same. There is a train and carousel that you have to buy tickets for. Couple of souvenir shops including ice cream and coffee available. The line for ice cream was too long so we went to the next shop and bought some candy. It was pricey. A couple of photo ops on the property. And a lot of brave peacocks walking around. Please do not feed them! There are restrooms too!

Yelp
Well today I was practically called a lier by the cashier Trisha when I asked for my $15 School Bus driver Voucher I felt so embarrassed and the way she spoke to me like I was beneath her I did show her my CDL and she didn't even bother to look at it she just said ANYONE CAN SAY THEY ARE A BUS DRIVER she gave the voucher had step to the said so can fill it out when I was done she clear her line befor helping me again. Again I have never been so EMBARRASSED maybe Trisha needs to be retrained on how to work with the public.

Yelp
It's fun but dangerous for your wallet. I got excited and thought fuyu persimmons were $1.99 a pound. They were $1.99 each! Yikes. My mistake. The good news? Amazing wines and nuts and candy. Decent bathrooms in the middle of rural CA. Fun things to look at. The bad? Prepare to keep saying no if you walk around with your kids. Very tempting!

Yelp
I love this place so much. It reminds me a lot of my childhood. My family and I moved away more than 15 years ago so whenever we have the opportunity we like to go and visit. However, I hadn't been there in a couple of years so it was refreshing to see it was still so amazing. Everyone is very nice and welcoming. They had a really good selection of Hello Kitty snacks which was interesting. I picked up a couple of those, these really good half chocolate chip/m&m cookies, a Caramel Apple, and some ice cream. We also tried some of their popcorn & dried fruits. A bit on the pricey side but very well worth it. They have a lot of cute souvenirs whether that's keychains or snacks or some of their wine bottles. They also offer a train ride & have a carousel.

Yelp
Casa de Fruta is a fun place, and a local landmark... it started with a fruit stand in the 1940s, and grew into a restaurant, fruit store, wine shop, gas station, kids play area, and souvenir stand. It's a little run down, but they seem to be making an effort at upkeep. It's a nice place to take a break from the highway, and it's also a fun place for group parties. They always have special events around the holidays. I find the prices in the restaurant and the various shops to be a little high, but not outrageous. It's what I would expect from a "tourist" place. The restaurant has a lot of items - burgers, sandwiches, steak, chicken, pancakes, waffles, fish, etc - but the quality if mixed. I went there with a group of ten people, and opinions on the meals were pretty evenly split between "OK" and "Good." One thing I will say is that my group of ten insisted on splitting up the check. We ended up with four different groups. The waitress didn't even bat an eye! She was friendly and helpful, got all the orders right, and at the end of the meal presented the four separate checks to the right people. Casa de Fruta is worth a stop, and even worth a short drive for a group outing. It's not great, but it's fun.

George B.

Yelp
New menu, higher prices fewer selections. As a regular customer for breakfast, I am very disappointed. I may drop by once a month if I happen to be passing by, but as a regular, like the old menu, I'm history. So sad...
google avatar

Dafa Z.

Yelp
This fruit stand is a tourist trap. They are several other farmers market or fruit stands on the strip of road towards Pacheco Pass that sell similar quality fruits, nuts, etc cetera at a much better price. Trust me. I know. We passed by and stopped at a few of them haha! This place does does a wide variety and large selection of picked veggies, fruit preserves, nuts, candy, fresh produce, hot sauce and wines. I don't know what item sells. Everything looked like it was sitting for decoration and untouched. Saw many people with their phones out and recording. It's definitely a photograph friendly environment. It's a cute shop and the employees are friendly. They also have peacocks and chickens loose in the parking lot so be careful when you enter/exit.

Yelp
My first time stopping here with the family and it wasn't what I was expecting.. I thought it was a fruit stand off the side of the road lol. I seen they sold fruits. I didn't buy any. They have the train for the kids to ride on but u gotta buy tickets. They got a playground for the kids too. It's a fun little rest stop if u need to go pee and have time to check out the place. My son loved the turtle pond. There was a whole family of them! They have a deli there to which my bf got a sandwich and he said it was good. I picked up a couple things at the store area. I got banana chips and pickled habanero garlic. The garlic was good but the banana chips was stale af!! And I made sure to get one that didn't have a bad expiration date. I didn't like the texture chewing into it. Wouldn't get that again.. I did enjoy seeing the peacocks walk around freely. They were different colored ones. So pretty!

Yelp
Casa de Fruta is one of those Road stop nostalgic places that you just have to make a pit stop. I first visited here with my parents growing up as a kiddo, but now as an adult, my girlfriend and I were driving back from Carmel and when I spotted it, I said, have you ever been here? She hadn't soooo, we had to. I think one of the funniest aspects is that there really are wild but almost domesticated peacocks just roaming the grounds. They're on fence posts, walking around, staring at your food. It's their turf, we're just here. This place has everything! Wine. Restaurant. Ice cream. Kid's ride along train. Playground. Obviously, restrooms. Gift shop. It's just one of those must experience little destinations. Can't wait to read about other's visits here in the review section!

Yelp
What a beautiful place to spend some time wine tasting! It was a gloriously sunny Saturday. My husband and I enjoyed wine tasting and walking around the beautiful park. It gives vibes of Knotts Berry farm. The man pouring the wine was humorous and knowledgeable. His service was top notch. We also enjoyed a glass of wine on the patio. We would have stayed longer, but we were on a road trip and had to get to our destination. There is plenty to see and do here.

Yelp
Casa De Fruta (CDF) as an establishment is great. However, they need to hire better people. Came here today with my child's class for a field trip and we had Estrella as our guide. This woman should never be a guide or be banned from working with children. You would think that she knew what she signed up for when you're guiding 20+ kindergarteners around. She was rude, pushy, constantly rushing us, and yelling at the kids/adults. She didn't allow any breaks for bathroom or snacks. These kids were starving and I totally understand she's on a schedule, but you're working with kids and you need to be flexible. She can also learn how to better communicate with us and the children. SHE single handedly made this experience an awful one and I hope I never get her again. Negative stars for the service if I could. Fellow teacher and parents/chaperones are all in agreement that she totally just sucks. Doesn't need to act like an entitled bitch (excuse my language) with us and it was completely unnecessary.

Yelp
When heading to Pacheco pass (West side in Gilroy) by 152 state route, this is the location in Casa de Fruta. Many varieties that you can see in these store, from fruits to local vegetables, lots of condiments sauces to jellies and jams. What attracted me most is the wines, They have a free tasting of wines everyday. The employees are accommodating too, so if you are within this vicinity don't forget to come by and venture this place.

Yelp
Always have to stop here to get a succulent and cookies! They always have the best snacks and nuts. Love casa de frutas.

Yelp
Love this place! It's was a constant childhood stop as we travelled from Fresno to Monterey to visit family. I have been out of California for the last 14 years living in Tennessee and recently moved back. I always craved the nuts and dried fruit that we have so abundantly in the Valley, which was a little harder to find and definitely more expensive in Tennessee. On a recent trip to Monterey, I stopped and picked up some of my favorite goodies and just reminisced my childhood wandering around this place. I will always treasure this place as a magical spot from my youth! Thanks for the memories!!!

Yelp
Great stop. Stopped by the deli and the sandwich was so dang good. Staff wasn't friendly at the deli at all but sandwich was good and service quick
google avatar

Lorean W.

Yelp
Casa de Fruta has been my midway-stop on trips to Monterey for years now. Anyone who visits me makes it out there eventually! It's the perfect space to stop and stretch your legs, use the restroom, and grab a bounty of local Californian delights. I always end up with a basket full of olives and honey, the walnut stuffed dates, some sort of garlic item--the hanging braids are so fragrant when you pass underneath that I wish I could do the same exact thing in my home! Service is always great--staff are friendly and helpful without hovering, which I always appreciate. Some day I'm going to make it past the farm stand and try the restaurant or maybe grab a sweet treat! But if you only ever went through the shop, you'd still be doing just fine!

Yelp
The staff was great. Got seated right away. They were very friendly and attentive. Everyone was smiling. The restrooms were clean, which is always important. The food was good. The meat was prepared as per request and it was prepared quickly. The vegetables were very underwhelming. They were very soft and soggy, appeared like they were frozen veggies that were just warmed up. The bread they offered as an appetizer was soft and warm. I would say it's a typical diner experience

mia r.

Yelp
I use to always come for the breakfast sandwich and honestly the way this place recently updated things is so disappointing. The breakfast sandwich completely different not bad but not what it use to be. Extremely disappointed in casa de fruta as it use to be my favorite place and I don't think I'll be coming back. Service was also ok I miss the old sweet workers although some of them are still here. How they updated the actual place looks pretty nice just wish that was the only thing they updated

Lisa R.

Yelp
Our favorite place! We stayed in a beautiful cabin and had the most wonderful time. The cabin is clean, cozy and comfortable. It overlooks a creek and has a private deck and bbq and fire pit and lots of comfy furniture. The beds are comfortable with superior bedding. We got a supply of munchies from the fruit stand, some dinner from the restaurant and brought it back to the cabin and got all snuggled in. The staff at Casa de Fruta is so friendly and gracious. Special shoutout to a wonderful gentleman named Richard Hill, who personally made sure my husband and I had a super special 20th anniversary celebration. He and the rest of the staff went above and beyond! THANK YOU!! We love Casa de Fruta and look forward to summer fruit season when we'll be back for more! I tried to post a video of the entire cabin, but it only allowed 30 seconds and just didn't work.

Yelp
Love this place!! From My child to bringing my own kids now. Love the Carousal ride and train ride. They were out of sesame sticks for the first time in my life. Restrooms were clean and stocked and the staff was friendly as alwAys. Snack station central love it!!

Yelp
My husband and I used to really enjoy going to Casa de Fruta and he would have the prime rib and I would have whatever I wanted on the menu. It seems that they have changed their menu and definitely not for the better! In the past, When my husband would get his meal, it would have some wonderful fresh vegetables with rice pilaf and now it's this concoction of potatoes, Brussels sprouts, carrots and it's just mushy and burnt. They used to have some beautiful dinner rolls now you've got these cheap old rolls. You no longer can have rice pilaf. My tri-tip sandwich was dried out and the salad that I had, was changed to leafy bagged greens. I liked my iceberg lettuce, salad with tomatoes! I think the worst thing was that the staff and the manager (new owner) were standing not far from us chatting and laughing and talking. We're out for a nice quiet dinner and definitely didn't want to hear all of the chitchat that was going on. Now for the service... Our waitress told us that we have the option of the next time we came not having any vegetables at all because they liked them the way they are!

Yelp
I LOVEEE CASA DE FRUTA!! Everytime we go down to Fresno we stop here and look at the peacocks, go on the carousel. I'm in my 20s and have been going here for years! It's one of the best places! Recently I just learned they had chocolate covered strawberries in a cup and it was delicious! I love coming to casa de fruta it's always the best and the people whom work there are polite. If you're driving to los Banos or Fresno, stopping by here is a must!

Yelp
I think for the price I expected higher quality of food, but it was still satisfactory. I ordered the chicken fettuccine Alfredo, it was a large portion. My apple pie with ice cream was so delicious, the highlight of the meal. They have lots of pies to choose from but in my opinion the apple is best. My friend got boysenberry and I wasn't impressed. The most impressive part was our waitress. She was so on it! She deserves 5 stars, she was hustling to make sure we had refills on drinks, had all our sides and kept checking on us. One my friends kept enjoying a Dr Pepper refill each time she came around. We sat in a comfy booth inside away from the cold. I love how they have little games on the back of the place mats, I was racing against a friend to complete the word search.

Yelp
We stopped here when I was younger and it was always my favorite place to stop! It has certainly grown in the years since my first visit, but thats great for them! It means business is thriving! It used to be that I liked to stop here because the bathrooms at the chevron were always immaculate, and I would always grab something from the sweet shop, but now its a whole experience! Haha! We brought the kids this last weekend as my husband is working in Gilroy, and its not too far away. It was fun to walk around the pond and see the fish and turtles, and my girls loved the carousel! The playground kept them pretty entertained for awhile as well... perfect for those families on long road trips with small kids so they can get their wiggles out. I am sad that we didn't have time to eat at the restaurant, but we have decided to go back amd try it soon. We did however get to experience the ice cream from the sweet shop! The people who work there are very patient and kind. The kids were a little overwhelmed with how many flavors there were and took some time to decide, even with the line the man waiting patiently for their decision. The servings are huge so be conscious of that! The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars is because of the inflated prices of everything. It cost us over $45 for 4 ice creams. I understand the servings are large, but let's be real, its ice cream! The prices of the produce and other good were super high too. With so many farm fresh fruit stands along the highway with much cheaper prices it was hard not to feel like they're taking advantage. Overall I will still come back, I love it here...maybe we'll just share a $12 ice cream cone next time! Hahaha!

Yelp
A nice stop along our road trip home from San Francisco. This cute stop has a fruit, nut, plant, and veggie stand. They have a restaurant, and a sweets shop with delicious popcorn of all flavors, ice cream, and fudge. The best part was the family fun experience. They have a playground, mini train ride, and a carousal for the who family to enjoy. Their website has the prices of entertainment and info on their bed and breakfast. We stopped for gas and ended up enjoying all they have to offer. A big plus that they are pet friendly

Yelp
Stopped by this spot on the drive back home. Definite tourist spot with the plentiful stands of fruits, veggies, and garlic galore. They also feature some canned items, dried fruit items, fun souvenirs, hot sauce, marinades, dipping sauces, and even wine tasting. We went through the store just to check out what they had, then backtracked to the restaurant part. The restaurant was about a 20 min wait so we put our name down and went back to the store. They did a wine tasting part and I know in the past did a sampling of olives (the ones in the jar that you could sample and purchase). Currently, the only sampling was on wine. I also took a look at the other stuff for sale--garlic braids, hot sauce and rubs/marinades,other fruits, fruit and nut trays, candy, garlic ice cream, souvenirs, etc. We were in garlic heaven! The pricing was a little higher than I expected, but the spot is pretty touristy...so it was ok for the occasional splurge. Plenty of parking with some other amusement type options in back--train, carousel, and plenty of photo opps. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We rented the new cabins on the grounds, the one we rented sleeps 4 adults and 4 children. We had such a great time! We used the pool--it could use more sanitizing, but ok for the most part. The sleeping quarters for the kids was very uncomfortable, the other two areas for adults were good, not great, but good. The artificial grass in a portion of our outside patio was soft and amazing. It was a very good stay.

Yelp
Fruit stand wine tasting Maria did a great job. Love the wine. I bought two bottles. Maria made me feel comfortable and the place was nice and cool.

Yelp
Food was horrible. We had 3 different meals, they weren't seasoned. I wouldn't recommend Casa de Fruta

Yelp
This is one of our main stops when visiting family in NorCal. The variety of things to look at and buy, it's always so fun! We walk around, eat lunch on the grass, and grab some chocolates for the road. This "pit stop" will continue to be one of our favorites for many years to come.

Yelp
Do I recommend this place? 100% I do! We've been coming here for about six years, and it wasn't until recently that we took the time to explore the entire place instead of just moving our car from parking lot to parking lot. This place is huge! It may look like a small pit stop for gas, food, and stretching, but it's much more than that. They offer lodging, various restaurants, gift shops, and beautiful souvenir shops with a wide selection of toys for kids. What really surprised us were the train ride, carousel, playground, Turtle Island, and the stunning landscape. First off, the train ride is inexpensive and a great way to get a quick view of the whole location. It's about a 15-minute ride--super cute and a must! The carousel is operated by the same train conductor, who switches between the two every 15 minutes or so. It's a beautiful two-story carousel. The playground has an old-school charm but be cautious if it's hot, as the metal material can get quite hot. Unfortunately, my son burned his leg by accidentally sitting on the platform--lesson learned. The turtle pond was adorable! It was amazing to see how they thrive in their natural habitat with their little families. Remember not to feed or bother them--just admire them and enjoy the moment. Overall, the landscape is wonderful, surrounded by trees and nature. Don't forget to stop by the gift shops and support them. They offer so many cool things I can't name them all. We bought a little bag of gold and had the kids mine their rocks, which gave us the chance to explain the process and share a bit of California's history with them. We spent a total of two hours here, and it felt like we were there for only 30 minutes. Stop here--you won't regret it!
