"Right in front of the Honduran Consulate, next to La Troca Catracha, a folding table lined with bags of Zambos (banana chips) and a cooler is where Doris Caballero proudly sells banana leaf tamales and montucas (fresh corn tamales). The stand is named after her children, Jeseel and Eileen. These tamales catrachos (also known as nacatamales) are super moist because they are boiled instead of steamed. They come with chicken (catrachos), or as tamales de puerco, flavored by a recado (stew) of tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, and achiote for color. Fresh corn tamal fans are in for a treat, as Caballero’s montucas are filled with chicken in a tangy recado mixed with sweet corn. There are also straightforward tamalitos de elote, or sweet corn tamales. Snack on Zambos preparados — a prepared bag of plantain chips that’s like a Honduran Frito pie — before picking up a dozen tamales. Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m." - Bill Esparza

I was assaulted and being treated like it never happened. My first therapist Jaimee Beck who was very unprofessional told me to go to church and took the time to belittle me every session we had together after a week of her being supportive. She never presented herself in a professional manner. (hair not done, no makeup, bags under her eyes, never dressed professionally.) It honestly made me feel like she was mocking me. I reported her to her manager and got a new therapist named Daisy Gamboa. Jaimee Beck didn't give my new therapist any information and Iam now fighting to appeal because my police report supposedly doesn't exist when I sent it in nearly a year ago. I haven't received any help or support since I began therapy and I'm feeling worse than the day I was assaulted. I did everything I was supposed to do, did all I could sticking my foot in every door hoping I'd get help and for what? To feel completely worthless and hopeless? It's been almost a week and I haven't received one phone call! I deserve to have all my sessions restarted and extended!!! This was a hard slap to the face for me, getting told my police report doesn't exist after all this time. This could have been easily taken care of months ago but the blames being pointed to me instead. Anyone considering this place should seriously reconsider, I wish I had.

By Law Offices of Vivian Szawarc: Had a really good experience with Julianne in front office. She was really nice and helpful. She conducted herself in a professional manner. I had spoken to someone a few days ago and did not get anything resolved, but Julianne was able to get the job done and I was able to speak to Dayana (Case Manager) whom was incredible as well. Thanks ladies for taking care of business.

Their website as with everyone’s describes experienced clinicians, focus on domestic violence, blah blah etc.. all these programs can and do bill insurance under the guise that clients are receiving something aimed at their improvement (whether that be mental, circumstance, general well-being) when I’m beginning to see that billing is the goal and how a client feels after a “service” is not really up on the priority list. A 2 hour support group?! That is not client centered or client run? This woman has no idea what she’s doing the help I’ve seen her provide was useless in their real life situation she was reading out of a book when I first got there no one was talking. This is not a support group. She spreads misinformation and encourages survivors of dv to feel guilt. This shows how unqualified and inexperienced she is w domestic violence in general and is causing harm w her lack of knowledge and intuitive knowledge, or lack there of, I hope they are not getting to bill for that Bc it’s absolute trash. The counselor assigned to be also behaved inappropriately unprofessional and disheveled in appearance, kept contacting me when I had terminated services pretending we had a session that day when we didn’t. She pretended to not know what day it was hmmm how convenient.Ana Nogales who is the founder of this place I believe just from staff interactions is more of a figure than an actual presence in her own facility that is making her agency book bad. Most have never met her. But her names all over everything.. I am so underwhelmed by the professionalism here that I am truly reconsidering the importance of mental health care when the care is provided by people unfit to facilitate that care. This agency wants to bill insurance for things they don’t do and couldn’t care less about anything else

Therapist didn't even show up to scheduled appointments and constantly made culturally misappropriating comments. They also gave me the runaround on placing me at all. If you don't want to treat someone for any reason, the least you could do is provide referrals. I feel worse than before I went to them!

Casa de la Familia is a much needed organization to help victims of crime to receive much needed therapy and they have free support groups on Friday's from 12-2pm. Walk ins, welcome. Dr. Nogales has been a great inspiration and supporter of the Latino Community. Thank you for all you do to help Latinos receive therapy.

Yelp
This organization was listed as a resource for low-income folks for counseling, but unfortunately they are unresponsive. I called and whoever answered was very sweet on the phone, but I then didn't hear back from them even though I signed my forms and event sent a follow up email but got no response. Unresponsive.

Yelp
After reading the negative review I decided to edit my initial review. I'm not promoting this office only letting you know what this office did for me. I attended other therapy locations one of them being Kaiser. I attended a group, individual and I saw a psychologist there. In the group therapy you were given 3 months once the 3 months were over according to them you were emotionally well and ready return to work regardless of your own personal state of mind. If you insisted you were not ready the next step was to have you admitted to the psychiatric hospital. Individual therapy was 15 minutes and very cold no real interaction between client and therapist, psychologist was something else you were literally in and out. I was placed on antidepressants 3 different kinds that not only made me worse as they sank me into deeper depression and the inability to function to the point that I preferred to sleep. The medication physically made me feeling disoriented and drugged it was horrible and I am not exaggerating I explained to the psychologist his response was you are not giving the medication a opportunity. If I can not get out of bed wouldn't you say that is a indicator it's not working. At Casa I was sent to see their psychologist who listen and changed my medication, I have continued on that medication and I never felt what I felt on the previous medications I was placed on (mind you I was extremely erre of taking another medication) the medication not only never caused ill effects but my mental perception improved positively; with the assistance of my therapist as I stated in my previous comment I'm now living and loving life I won't say I am cured, I don't think that exist is psychological trauma but I will say I have begun the next chapter in my life enthusiastically.

Yelp
My family and I were the victim of a crime and it turned our world upside down. We did not know where to turn or how to deal with the anxiety and depression, nightmares and fear the we were constantly living with. A victim adovacte referred us to Casa and we found the support and care we needed to work through our issues. Casa adminstrative staff were there to help us every step of the way with paperwork, scheduling counseling sessions and offering referrals for additioanl resoures. The therapists they assigned to us really cared about us and was a great listener. She developed a plan of action for our treatment and threapy with the goal of getting us back to living our lives. I do not know where were would be today without the caring and wounderful support we received from Casa. God Bless you Casa de la Familia, you saved our lives!
