Isla Mujeres Travel Guide

"A charming beachfront boutique hotel on the island’s south side, characterized by pink-painted walls, floral Mexican textiles, and an infinity pool with views of turquoise water. Its adjacent activity complex, Kin Há, enhances the relaxed stay with multiple pools, water-gear rental, and playful features like a rope swing over the surf." - David Shortell David Shortell David Shortell is a journalist based in Mexico City. Casa de los Suenos | Best places to stay in the Mayan Riviera

"This intimate Isla Mujeres boutique, with beautiful pools and views, cascades down a steep hill towards the ocean, perfectly positioned for sunset over the ocean – which you only get on the Mayan Riviera islands (mainland hotels face east). The view is dreamy – over the infinity pool which melds with the turquoise sea and sun as it drops gold over the water. Rooms come in Greek Island-white with colourful Mexican textiles and balconies and are linked by corridors, stairs and patios – brightly-painted in Mexican blues and egg-yolk yellows. Alfresco lounge areas are dotted with designer furnishings. And while there’s no beach – just a rocky shore with good snorkelling out from the long wooden jetty, guests have full use of the Kin Ha waterpark next door – with cascades of pools and slides, and complimentary access to the beach club on Playa Norte a few kilometres away. This hotel is on the quieter side of the island directly above Kin Ha beach club and restaurant. The hotel has 13 rooms total and we stayed in Amore(Love). The one person who made our stay so enjoyable is Carlos the main person you see everyday. We spent 5 nights here. There are good restaurants to eat at within walking distance. We had a golf cart for our stay and would recommend. The breakfasts that are included at Kin Ha are okay but I wouldn't recommend the food beyond that. The beach club is all about chair rentals and they pack you in. Get your chairs first thing in the morning when you dine for breakfast and you'll have your choice. Sunsets are amazing, can snorkel right off the dock, and the kayaks are perfect. Also you can walk a couple blocks to the Caribbean side and see the sunrise. The only other negative is the loud night club music from the neighboring hotel (secrets) 9-11pm nightly. Not control able by this hotel. Overall a lovely stay and would return.

The BEST part was the people. Carlos at the night desk was very helpful with different arrangements as was Jose I believe the day gentleman's name was. AND...an AMAZING street addition across from the main entrance was Samy and his "CoCo Nut" smoothie stand. Super delicious. A very kind and personable hombre! The housekeeping helpers were friendly and the place looked so clean and kept. And the restaurant folks down by the ocean were kind and food very good. I hope the owner of the hotel treats their hard workers well. (Take care of your workers and they will take care of you) Thank you all for a special time with family.

Outstanding boutique hotel. Bed was very comfortable, nice pool, and customer service was top notch! Carlos and his team ensured that we were well taken care of and they are very friendly. The hotel provided breakfast daily at Kim Ha Restaurant and it was tasty. The view is quite beautiful. We will come back.

I don't like writing reviews that aren't "Holy heck! I loved this!" but this is one where I feel I need to write the review I wish I had read. Based on the money we paid and the other reviews, I thought this was going to be a quieter, nicer experience. The beach club was loud and crowded with only so-so food, and parts of our room were kind of gross -- the light switches looked like they had never been cleaned. Also, if you have any sensory issues, know that they use a very scented cleaner. Things that were great: the hotel itself was small and quiet (other than one night when the people next door kept partying with their doors wide open), the people were nice, and it was walking distance to a couple of our favorite restaurants on the island, including the one right across the street. But overall, I was underwhelmed.

I only just arrived so I’ll update this later but not in my wildest dreams did I expect it to be this nice. Only 4 rooms here don’t face the ocean so you have a good chance of seeing the most incredible view. It’s also connected to Kin Ha which has 3 pools, kayaks, paddle boards and chairs. My booking also included breakfast which goes until 12pm in case you aren’t a morning person. I’m still kind of in shock that I get to stay here. Absolutely book it! If you want to get to playa Norte a taxi is about 200 pesos to the other end of the island but I’m pretty sure you won’t want to leave. There are also bikes if you want to use them just know the brakes are medium at best. It’s peaceful with great AC and comfy beds!

We stayed at Casa de los Suenos for a week and would return in a heartbeat! Being on the south end of the island, it is quiet and so relaxing. The views are amazing. The water is clear and great for snorkeling. You will not find a better spot for watching the sunsets. The hotel is small and intimate, never overwhelming and never overcrowded. Our room rate included breakfast at Kin Ha; all the selections we tried were delicious and filling. Our room rate also included access to the Kin Ha beach club; we loved the lounge chairs in the shade and free use of snorkeling equipment, although it could get loud in the afternoons. Our room was the Serenity Jacuzzi Suite, facing the ocean. It was very roomy and the balcony had lounge chairs, table, and 2 upright chairs. The bathroom included a jacuzzi tub and large shower. The hotel pool is small, but always clean and had lounge chairs available. There were also floats and books for lazy afternoons. Taxis to the center part of the island (for the best authentic Mexican food) were about $15 round trip, including tip. There is a coffee bus and a mango smoothie cart right outside the hotel. Both are friendly and delicious; we visited daily. Concierges Carlos, Roberto, and Roger were always available for restaurant recommendations, getting fair taxi drivers, and helping us with our Spanish. As wonderful as the hotel is, Carlos, Roberto, and Roger are the reasons we would return. They were so friendly and nice.

Lovely hotel with a super friendly and helpful staff - thank you Roger and Carlos! The views and sunsets are some of the best on the island. The grounds and rooms are clean and well maintained. I don't think I've seen a cleaner pool anywhere. Several new shops and restaurants nearby made it convenient when we didn't want to trek across the island for sunscreen or a meal. Access to Kin Ha beach club was a plus and we enjoyed breakfast at their restaurant every morning. Our room was Amore and I would absolutely stay there again, but would LOVE to book the presidential suite next time. I had a quick tour of the presidential suite and it's truly something special.

Amazing location! We we're debating staying on this end of the island or closer to Playa Norte and I'm SO glad we stayed here. It's a beautiful area that isn't "quiet" but definitely more peaceful. Beautiful grounds and pool, accommodating staff. Really amazing bars and food near by. The breakfast every morning that's included at Kin-Ha is awesome. Staying on this side of the island you have calm waters and it gives you a chance to explore more. We can't wait to return!

Yelp
Casa de los Sueños (House of Dreams): Must book if you are looking for a reasonable boutique hotel! It is located next to a private residence and also the 5-star Impressions Hotel (Hyatt). Once you stay here, you have options to rent bicycles (complimentary) and golf carts from here. I highly recommend getting one of the golf carts from here, as they book out fast. Otherwise, you will have to go downtown to rent them for an hourly rate or daily fee. The hotel has a relationship with Kin Ha beachfront restaurant, which is below the hotel. It is not connected, so you must travel down the stairs and cross the side road to enter the Kin Ha beachfront restaurant for complimentary breakfast (any entree with one simple coffee or juice). You can also lay out at their beach club, which has complimentary kayaking, snorkeling, and paddleboarding (tipping recommended). The rooms are grand and colorful. The pool and ocean views are amazing. There are 13 rooms in this boutique hotel. I was advised that the best rooms here are Grace, Love, and Serenity. You must notify the front desk if you want your room cleaned. Otherwise, you can request items/amenities (even a beach towel) from the front desk. Some other things to note here are the laundry room and jewelry/hat store. The options are a bit limited compared to downtown. Why Casa de los Sueños? This isn't just a place to sleep--it's an integral part of the island (Isla Mujeres) experience. There is someone always to greet you in the lobby. I felt safe throughout my stay here.

Yelp
I came here during covid just to get away and I enjoyed every second of my stay!!! I loved the views, my room, the food was very delicious and the location was excellent! I'm actually thinking about going again.

Yelp
Casa de los Suenos is THE place to stay when you would rather feel like an old friend than a guest. From the moment that you book to your arrival on site, they are there every step of the way to help you get to your final destination. And in my case that was destination relaxation. This is probably the most important part of my review, so I'll include it first. As a young-ish solo female traveler, I felt 100% comfortable staying here. There is always someone in the main lobby keeping an eye on things and they lock the main front door from 11:00pm to 7:00am. The staff will call you by your first name from day 1, making you feel seen and acknowledged and most of all, cared for. Thank you to Chris, Roger, and Carlos. As its located in the Southern part of Isla, you'll need to consider transportation options if you really want to explore. They have bikes on site that you can use and if you arrange it ahead of time, they will have a gold cart waiting for you upon arrival that they make sure is always full of gas and just added to your tab at check out. By far the easiest and most reliable way to get a cart on the island. I also love how they have the partnership with the restaurant below, Kin Ha. Excellent breakfast that comes with your stay. The view is breathtaking and Gil who curated the playlist is a genius with the tunes that play as you dine. There are also pools, a water swing, kayaks etc, and snorkeling right there included. The rooms are spacious, clean, and come with a fridge. My room, the exec king suite was more than I could have hoped for, especially when you consider the sweeping views of the ocean. The pool is divine and cleaned daily. One of my favorite parts, the house pups Marvin and Nina, (and even the cat Maggie) were perhaps my most favorite feature. They are the sweetest and must fun Casa mascots. If youre lucky they will even walk you down to breakfast! One note of improvement, which they are working on, is the company that they contract with for the transfer service. It was a little bit discombobulated on the way there, but everything worked out in the end. Chris personally took down my feedback and shared it with the company so that hopefully things go more smoothly for future guests (note that this is not a reflection of Casa, just a vendor they work with). If your thinking hmmm I usually stay in name brand hotels (trust me, I am a Marriott loyalist to an extreme level), do not do that here on Isla. Stay here. The experience is part of being on the Island. You will love your time on the island that much more if you stay at Casa de los Suenos. It really is a dream.

Yelp
This place is amazing! For such a great price you can snorkel, you can eat, you can drink, you can canoe, or just swim in the delicious waters of the Yucatán. I was able to work on my tan and do all of the above activities. It was such a beautiful day and my recently deceased mother was smiling down on my friend and I. We were celebrating what would have been her 66th bday. After exploring the island of Isla Mujeres this is a great way to take a break and enjoy delicious tacos and drink whatever you want from their delicious juice drinks to any alcoholic beverage you want. It's kid friendly as they have a pool and slide for the kids to play. They also have games for kids and adults. If you get stung by coral don't worry, they have you covered and it doesn't hurt as much as it itches. It still doesn't take away from the gorgeous fish you can see while snorkeling. I had the best experience ever here. It was a great way to honor my beloved mom.

Yelp
Stopped by for some food and drinks at the restaurant. To get to the restaurant, you actually have to walk through the hotel -- cross a small alley, then head down 8 ramps to get to the pool and restaurant area. Once there, we were seated indoors since all of the shade seating was taken. The indoors is still outdoors, just under the patio area. We placed our drink orders. The drinks took a little while to come, but once they did - they were good. Next, we placed the food order. We had burgers, chicken tacos, and guacamole. All of the food was good. The burgers were actually awesome. My only gripe about the place was the service. While the waiter did take our initial order and brought us our food, he didn't really do any follow up. He was covering an area which included the restaurant and the pool. After being done for 20 minutes, we finally walked to the counter to pay. No one brought the ticket. So, in summary -- good food, service -- so, so.

Yelp
We had a very relaxing stay in the king ocean view. The staff, Chris, Carlos and Celina were extremely helpful and friendly. I loved the feel of this boutique hotel. The king bed was comfortable, the temperature of our room was perfect (stayed cold at night) and the room was cleaned daily, while many hotels aren't cleaning at all. We enjoyed the beach chairs, breakfast, paddle boards, hammock, bikes, water swing and other amenities provided.

Yelp
This place is amazing! VERY honest, kind, and personable! Oscar and Chris took great care of us when because of the hurricane our room wasn't ready (understandable!) they made everything so easy and we seriously want to live here. In room massages, room service margaritas and lobster? Can't ask for more! Very clean, beautiful views, and the air conditioning is great ( coming from a Texan- we know air conditioning). The restaurant and ocean are a quick walk across the road and it feels very safe here- speaking as a small white woman who has been abroad before this is saying a lot! I have no complaints!

Yelp
We came from Cancun Westin Lagunamar to spend a day at Isla de Mujeres. We took the ferry from Playa Tortugas. Once on the island we rented a golf cart for the day for about $35 USD. We drove down the island and stopped at La Casa de los Suenos, a boutique hotel with a waterfront restaurant and bar. The views were amazing! The lunch/brunch menu is more American with hamburgers, chicken tenders, etc....but we stuck to tacos. We ordered bottles of water, margaritas, guacamole and chips, chicken and shrimp tacos. The taco plates come with 3 tacos, guacamole, and pico de gallo. My husband and I switched 1 taco. I switched for a chicken taco (far right in picture). The shrimp tacos were good but the chicken tacos were fantastic! We highly recommend the chicken tacos! Our late lunch, water, drinks, appetizer, and two taco plates for all about $45 USD. The service was great as well. A very friendly and attentive staff. A must stop if you're at Isla de Mujeres even if it's just for a drink to take in the amazing views! Enjoy!

Yelp
Just stopped in here for a drinks and the view was amazing. It is a small 10 room boutique hotel. Had margarita's, 4 cervezas, chips y guacamole.Great service, nice people.Showed is around the rooms the decor is impeccable, they paid close attention to detail. I would love to stay here on a return visit for the views and service alone

Yelp
AMAZING!!! Best place I have ever stayed and I travel immensely. From start to finish I felt like part of the hotel family. From check-in, housekeeping, management, and OWNERS everyone was the best. I recoomned this place on the entire island. And for the price.....SO AFFORDABLE. Best snorkeling Best kayaking Best food Best view Best Massage on end of pier Quiet but just a 5 min golf cart ride into town I, we, loved every moment!

Yelp
I made a booking with them on Booking.com for December 24th-December 25th for more than $300. The payment was processed right away, but then the property contacted me to tell me that it was a mistake- that I had to have a minimum of three nights at this time. I couldn't do this so I requested a full refund. This refund STILL has not been processed and I am very unhappy about it. I feel that this hotel is fraudulent and irresponsible. Please, please do not book with them on Booking.com.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast. Great lobster and shrimp omlet. Ask for chips and guacamole with your meal. Views were incredible! Service was also outstanding. The only negative thing I can say is the walk down the hill to the restaurant.

Yelp
My wife and I did lunch here at it was great! We came in October when it was quiet, and we had a great experience: great view, drinks, food - the whole package. We had some ceviche (really good) and fish tacos (pretty good, big serving) and the drinks were pretty good. The habanero margarita was also very good (provided you're into a little spice in your island drinks). Looks like they only do breakfast, brunch, and lunch - not sure on their dinner options. Also, during a time when mosquitos were eating us alive, we had no issue with them here! Lastly, we were escorted from our golf cart to the restaurant and given some details about the hotel/park by a member of the staff which was a bit of an annoyance, but we're going to try to go back because the park looks like fun (kayaks, slides, pools, swim up bar) - it was also all new and looked well maintained.

Yelp
Very cool place! We try to find a good beach on the south and found this place!!! The food is good, service is good too:)

Yelp
I stopped here for the view. I was driving on my moped and saw the ocean from the front door. The staff was very friendly and welcomed me openly. I had a fabulous burrito for lunch that could feed 2 easily. The drinks were great as well. I spoke with a couple staying there and they were very happy with the accommodations and the meals as well. The place is very peaceful with a great view, clean bathrooms and friendly staff. Service was excellent as was the food.

Yelp
I traveled to Casa de los Sueños back in March with a friend from Chicago. For the last 6 months I have been thinking about how awesome it was, and how I can't wait to go back! This boutique hotel is very relaxing, but also has the option for a bar and restaurant with pools by the Ocean that is only a minute way from your room. The front desk staff and restaurant staff were amazing and very professional. I will be back for sure!

Yelp
Awesome water park! with a zip line, water slide, kayak and board rentals, swimming pool bar. We spent the day and came away with some great memories!

Nina K.

Yelp
I, too, had a very bad experience with this hotel accepting a deposit for a secured reservation only to turn around months later and cancel my reservation without refunding my deposit (which has still not been refunded after 90 days). They claimed their records were incomplete and couldn't locate the funds, after having issued me a paid receipt. Protect yourself - don't give any money to these guys. There are other nice hotels options in Isla Mujeres where your deposit is safe. This isn't worth the trouble.

Yelp
Popped in here to grab some drinks and to use the restroom while driving around the island. The staff was friendly and the place was clean and nice. After sitting down by the small infinity pool, realized that it's a hotel. Seems like a lovely boutique hotel. May have to consider staying here a couple nights on my next Cancun trip.

Rick V.

Yelp
Far and away the best food on the island. Wait staff are friendly and inviting. The chef even visited with us to ensure everything was to our liking. The views are absolutely incredible. This is a must when visiting Isla Mujeres and well worth the trip from Cancun. They currently offer snorkeling, paddle boards and other water fun directly in front of the restaurant. Soon they will be adding several swimming pools and zip lines.

Dino D.

Yelp
One word wow!! From the view, to the food and the service. All were excellent!! Highly recommend this place. We were lucky to stumble upon it by chance. Had the shrimp ceviche, the lobster tacos as well as the coconut shrimp and our waiter recommended the tropical salad. All dishes were fresh, tasty and perfect for the light lunch were looking for.

Yelp
In August 2014, we stopped to have a few beers with a few tapas. The view was amazing, the service was perfect, the food was delicious and of course, the beers were ice cold! We went back in January 2015 and loved it again!!!
