Old Town Veteran Signs Chef for Oceanside Restaurant | Eater San Diego

"I note that Casa de Reyes is one of several prominent Mexican restaurants and shops within Old Town San Diego State Historic Park operated by Chuck Ross, a 40-year industry veteran who was named 2018 Restaurateur of the Year by the California Restaurant Association’s San Diego Chapter." - Candice Woo

This place has such fun ambiance. We ate on the patio and it was all decorated for Dia de Muertos. We went for my mom’s birthday and this is one of her favorite places. The food was good but not over the top delicious. This place is definitely all about the ambiance. We had the fajitas, enchiladas, and a chicken salad. My sister had a peach margarita and ended up ordering two, it was so good.

I've been here a couple of times and tonight we were in Old Town and dropped in. There was live singing and music because of dia los muertos. Food was excellent for a Mexican restaurant. I got the pick 3 and choose chicken tamales, beef enchiladas and tacos. Everything was delicious. My girl got the Mexican Caesar salad with chicken. Give it a try if you like Caesar salads. They have a wide variety of drinks also. We got the paloma.

Google
Amazing every time. Yes it is located in a tourist area, but the food is still fantastic and the ambiance is unbeatable. Tons of great dishes to choose from, and a fantastic place to get a drink. Wonderful for the whole family. They can certainly accommodate large groups. The pozole and molcajetes are top notch.

Casa de Reyes is the type of Mexican restaurant with both great atmosphere & service to match. I remember when nearly all Mexican restaurants had this old Mexican/Spanish colonial aesthetic. Located in the courtyard I’m reminded strongly of heritage, & thats something missing from modern Mexican restaurants. I ordered the Steak and Shrimp burrito with rice (Im not crazy about beans). The flavors were phenomenal & satisfied my Mexican pallet. The coffee was also perfect. Simple & good. I was reminded greatly of a Mexican cafe I grew up eating at as a child that no longer exists. To give me that comfort of memory thru food is a wonderful thing. Highly recommend Casa de Reyes.

This place had a great atmosphere with live music on weekends. It was a bit crowded, so the service was a bit slow. But the food was really tasty! We only had to wait 10 minutes for a table on a Saturday evening, which was pretty cool. I really enjoyed the music and the vibe of the place. I’d definitely go back again!

Google
I had the steak and shrimp burrito and it was excellent. The portion was generous, the flavors were bold and well-balanced, and the burrito came smothered in a creamy, cheesy sauce with a drizzle of green salsa that gave it a little kick without overpowering the dish. The steak was tender, the shrimp were cooked just right, and everything held together well without being overly heavy. The rice and beans on the side were classic and delicious — comforting and well-seasoned. Chips and salsa were brought out right away; the salsa had a unique ceviche-like tang to it, which was unexpected but pretty refreshing. Service was fast and super friendly. My food came out quickly and the staff was attentive without being overbearing. It was a perfect mix of laid-back and efficient. Great spot for a casual but flavorful meal in Old Town. Bonus: solid beer selection and plenty of shaded outdoor seating. I’d definitely come back.

Google
I've never eaten at Casa de Reyes restaurant, but I visit the courtyard and stores in the center often when I visit the Old Town Plaza. There are always interesting historical displays, some permanent, but others are specific to different culture events. The plaza is always lively and fun, and a great place to take visitors. There are a lot of interesting specialty stores to browse.

Google
This restaurant is outdoors and is quite lively. We were able to listen to live music from the stage nearby. It was crowded but we received our food at a reasonable time. The restaurant needs more lighting unable to see my food ( "night sight" camera for pics). The food was good. Tortillas👍🏼Highly recommend the molcajete.
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
Dined here while walking around the lovely old town area. We were seated quickly to an outdoor table. The live music was enjoyed as were the tasty bites. I ordered Bacon stuffed shrimp and my husband ordered a molcajete meal. Both were equally delicious! Highly recommend when in the area. Muy sabroso!

Yelp
Came here on a Thursday night and had no issue being seated right away. We did have to wait a while/flag down a waitress to finally have our order taken but once she did, she was great. Ordered the beef carnitas, which come sizzling and with an assortment of sides including; beans, guacamole, sour cream, tortillas, pico, and some of the best rice I think I have ever had. It was so flavourful and well cooked, we ordered an extra side of it just to eat with our meal. The steak was also cooked and marinated beautifully, extremely tender and was complemented nicely by the veggies. I would absolutely return just to eat this same food again and again. The ambiance is nice and is decorated very pretty.

Yelp
The three women at the restaurant reception desk, especially the two with their brazenly rude attitude, made me never want to go back. Apparently, we weren't the only ones complaining about the same two women; while we waited, we heard the same complaints repeated over and over. It's probably only restaurant here that you'd find service so brazen that they can't even apologize for failing to prepare a table due to their own mistake, instead snapping back at customers with a defiant attitude.

Yelp
Taking a walk through Old Town one night I got a little swept up in the festivity of the Dia de Muertos celebration. The atmosphere is so much fun. Decorations everywhere, live music. And it's all set in the middle of the courtyard of Casa de Reyes. So my fiancé, and I decided to come back and actually eat at Casa de Reyes, which I have avoided for several years. It's definitely a tourist trap, great atmosphere. With that being said, you know that the food is going to be heavily Americanized. We went for the sampler platter, consisting of nachos, quesadilla, chicken, rolled tacos, and guacamole. We did add a little Carne Asada onto the tacos just to give us a bit more protein. The food came out and looked pretty good, but had almost no flavor. Except for grease. Even the little strips of Carne Asada were completely bland and chewy in such a sad way. I felt bad for the cow that gave its life to end up like that. At one point we were sitting next to the Fire Pit and someone else had ordered fajitas and they brought it out and the smell was so strange and unpleasant that I thought possibly my hair caught on fire. Thankfully, it had not. The chips were quite nice and the salsa that they brought out did actually have a nice flavor, although it was not even remotely spicy. I was initially thinking I would order something else to take to work the next day for lunch, but I was so disappointed that I decided not to. I do have to give props for the service, our server was excellent. She was friendly and attentive. So the long story short here is that I will not be ordering food at this place again, but I would also not be above going in for a cocktail and chips and salsa, just to enjoy the vibe. The margaritas and Palomas looked really good. I didn't get one because I was working the next day and didn't want to actually have any alcohol that night. We went for nonalcoholic coronas. After tax and tip, our bill for the appetizer and two nonalcoholic beers came to $55. That's an awful lot of money to spend on the indigestion and bloat that I had for the following two days.

Yelp
I've been enjoying meals at this restaurant for decades whenever I'm in the city of San Diego and near old town. The Hostesses and the Server were friendly, and never rushed us through our meal. Our server also checked on us often to see if we needed anything. The food was good and the atmosphere was wonderful. This restaurant is all outside and an excellent way to enjoy all the good weather San Diego has to offer.

Yelp
We absolutely love Casa De Reyes in Old Town San Diego! Tacos, enchiladas, nachos delicious with great service! We have been coming here for years and the always deliver delicious Mexican food.
google avatar

Yelp
Festive atmosphere enhanced by live music from nearby stage. The bartenders are kept busy churning out margaritas and goblets of yummy looking concoctions. Hub's fajitas looked great and he at it ALL. Doc ate all her pozole. The description of my entree sounded good but was overcooked so the bacon wrapped crab stuffed shrimp was hard and dry. I ate only one of several on my plate. I liked the white peasant styled tops and flowing colorful skirts of the female servers. Next time I'll read more carefully that my dish comes with Spanish rice and refried beans instead of black beans and corn. Extremely busy restaurant with lines continuously waiting.
google avatar

Antonio M.

Yelp
The ambiance is fun and inviting. Classic old town San Diego Spanish theme with plenty of bright colors. The service was great. The waiter was attentive and kept a close eye on our table. The table chips were fantastic and well seasoned, the salsa was also nice and flavorful. The appetizer sampler was a great portion size and had some classics on there. I love the generous cheese in the quesadilla!!

Yelp
Awful We were in San Diego for the weekend and we always go to one restaurant so we decided to try something new and I regret it service was absolutely horrible. Thankfully there was one gentleman that helped us because our waitress took our order. Someone else brought out our food and never once did she come back and even when it was time to get our check, we had to ask somebody else and that person asked that gentleman that helped us so that we could get our check Food was tasteless no seasoning at all Everything looked pretty but unfortunately was not good Salsa was like tomato sauce and the chips were so hard and stale I would never recommend this restaurant or come back here again and it was very pricey

Yelp
Casa De Reyes is located in Old Town San Diego. They do have indoor seating, but the real draw for this restaurant is the outdoor courtyard. There are many tables with umbrellas and heat lamps for both day and night, an outdoor bar, and even a fire pit and water fountain. Next to the outdoor dining area, they have a stage with bench seating and a few tables where you can enjoy live music. Chips and salsa are complementary. The chips were fresh and the salsa was flavorful and on the mild side heat wise. I tried the La Riviera Maya specialty margarita, and it was average at best. Since we had a busy day ahead, I just had the medium size and it was pretty small. Their specialty margaritas are definitely expensive at $18.45 for the medium and $20.45 for the large. If you decide to try one, you might as well pay the extra $2 to get the large size. For my entrée, I had the Tampiquena Especial which is a carne asada steak and a cheese enchilada. When the plate first arrived, I thought it was a pretty small piece of meat but it was actually a lot thicker cut than your average carne asada steak. It was well seasoned, cooked as requested, and tasted very good. I really liked the grilled chili pepper it came with. The enchilada was very cheesy and good. This plate also comes with fresh made flour tortillas. They have a small tortilla kitchen out on the patio where you can watch them being made all day. My girlfriend had the bean and cheese tostada with mahi mahi. The fish was a little under seasoned, so she added some salt. The bean and cheese burrito was also enjoyed. Service was friendly and reasonably timely. I don't think that I would eat here on a regular basis, but it was fun to come and enjoy dining outside at this lively place.

Yelp
Came to Casa de Reyes on a Saturday evening when they had a special menu for. Dia de Los Muertos. We waited 20 minutes for a table after being told 30 minutes, so that wasn't bad. They text you when your table is ready, so you can roam around and enjoy the live music, if there is some nearby. Food: They provide complimentary chips and salsa to start. The salsa has a kick to it. I order a combination platter of a taco and tamale that came with rice and beans. The Carne asada taco was super greasy and was underwhelming. It wasn't loaded with meat and the pico on it was sad (just looked like diced tomatoes and a spec of onion). The Tamale was heavy on the Masa and it was covered in melted cheese (I've never seen that before). They were also out of beef tamales. The kids menu was super disappointing. The only meat item was chicken tenders. The meals were just really pathetic. We ordered the kids cheese quesadilla and ended up giving our son beans, rice, and meat from our plates. It didn't even come with guacamole, sour cream or salsa on the side, just tortilla and cheese. It was also supposed to come with milk, but we didn't get any. My husband got the nachos and said they were good, but again said the carne asada was greasy. They charge a 4% surcharge to every bill. Entrees are already a bit pricey due to the ambiance I imagine. Atmosphere is nice since it is outside, there was music a ways away at the stage (but could still hear), and festive decore. Service: Service was very slow. It took our server a while after we were seated to come over. People seated after us were greeted by their server before us. There were multiple instances where I was waiting for something or needed something and looking around for her. It took a while for us to get drinks, our check, etc. food came out decently quick. Drinks: My husband got a michelada and he felt it was disappointing. Overall, there are better Mexican restaurants in the old town and I wouldn't return here again.

Yelp
Beautiful atmosphere - right in the middle of the action with the stage just outside the restaurant. It is close to shops and many parking lots. The Dia de Los Muertos display is a must see. I ordered the chicken salad and it was very bland. The chips were also bland. The margaritas were weak. The prices are too high. I think they forgot about our table as initial service took awhile. I would skip this tourist trap and head for a different restaurant in Old Town.

Yelp
We came here for the Dia de Los Muertos event and wow, we all had a wonderful time! The atmosphere was lively, colorful and filled with music. This is an endearing celebration . We loved the food here as well. The meats were all delicious and my favorite would have to be the carnitas and chicken. The churro is a must try, very rich and worth the wait. The service all around was excellent, I have no complaints. I would recommend for families. They had live music specifically for the event.
google avatar

Anabel B.

Yelp
This place is perfect for El de los Muertos ambience. The set up is outside and with very cool vibe. They had music playing and Katrina's everywhere with the Marigold theme, which was really cool. The food was really good and we asked for habanero salsa on the side, which was a game changer got a couple of cocktails we got seated pretty quickly and you cannot beat the handmaid tortillas.

Yelp
I've been going to San Diego for decades and have always stopped at Olde Towne for the historic cultural emersion, music, ambiance, and food. My family and I stopped by, this past weekend, and visited this beautiful gem by the bay, and enjoyed a day of shopping and eating throughout our visit. We finished the day with dinner at Casa de Reyes---the food was delightful, the service exceptional, and the ambiance spectacular.

Yelp
It's a very big outdoor restaurant w music playing. From Marachi to salsa n now country western. The food is very tourist oriented. But flavor able. It's n constant very busy place , but everyone seems to get service n good food. Ambiance is colorful in the outside plaza . A definitely place to visit while in San Diego.

Yelp
My mom's 55th bday was yesterday and although it was rainy and gloomy in San Diego we decided to dine here for her bday celebration. It's an outdoor restaurant in old town but they had coverage with umbrellas tables and a covered Terrance. We are a big Mexican family of 10+ and the staff was so patient and accommodating having to move around chairs and tables lol I'm so glad they did such a great job with my big family, I had to share this amazing experience. Also the food is so good and the drinks are strong. We will be back so sorry you have to deal with us again in the future lol highly recommend the food, ambience and customer service for Mexican food in old town San Diego.

Yelp
Old Town can be overwhelming when it comes to choosing a restaurant, so we were lucky to stumble on Casa de Reyes (House of Kings). We started by sitting on the outdoor patio under a giant umbrella with a view of the beautiful gardens and a fire pit which was lit and much needed. We ordered some Michiladas with Modelo Especial and they were just what we needed. I ordered some yummy enchiladas and enjoyed the view and friendly service. The salsa was the best. Everyone in my party loved their meals. Unfortunately, no doggies were welcomed at this restaurante Mexicano, not even in the patio. So that was a downer. Overall, we were very happy everything on this visit came together for a nice brunch.

Yelp
First time having dinner with a group of friends from out of town. Pros: location!!! Vibrant, happening, live music (bit too loud), fun atmosphere! ; accessibility- plenty of free parking close by; fun and cute stores to visit while we waited a few minutes for our table. Cons: food! If you are looking for delicious Mexican food, this is not the place. Portions are huge but the food lacks flavor and authenticity; Service- while our bus boy was very efficient, our server left a lot to be desired- mixed up drinks orders, no refills on water or soft drinks, complete lack of information when asked questions about the food. Overall- I don't think I will be back for the food ever but if some guests are visiting and they want to grab some drinks and soak in the vibes of Fiesta de Reyes- this place will be ideal.

Yelp
I've been here twice and both times I've enjoyed it. This time I went during the Dia De Los Muertos festival. The line was long and I was advised it would be an hour wait. However, we were seated in about 30 minutes. The place was packed yet my family and I were still served quickly and the food was also out quick. I was amazed by how well the service was! The restaurant is outside seating and it was decorated beautifully for the holiday. I ordered the molcajete platter. Not a lot of meat in the platter, mostly veggies but I still enjoyed it. Forgot to mention, they also serve free chips and salsa. Our server was friendly, I wish I caught her name so I could give her a shout out. Don't come here with high expectations of authentic Mexican. Old Town SD is a tourist destination. Just come here for the atmosphere and company and you'll have a great time. Restaurant also has a stage with seating where you can enjoy live performances.

Yelp
Fun mexican restaurant with lots of outdoor seating in Old Town San Diego. The ambiance was a good time and the food was decent, but not worth the price. $20 for margaritas in small hurricane glasses and burritos that are $25. There are much better options for Mexican food in San Diego, but if you want to hang out in Old Town with friends it can be a good time.
google avatar

Katie W.

Yelp
This is my go to restaurant in Old Town for visitors. There is something on the menu for everyone. I love the flavors and varieties offered here; I've ordered 4+ different menu items and each was fantastic. Reasonable prices. Big portions. Complimentary chips and salsa. Be warned that there are no reservations here - so plan to come earlier, put your name on the wait list, and walk around Old Town. They frequently have live music as well. The restaurant is nestled in the middle of smaller shops where you can buy souvenirs or browse while waiting for your table and are open later than the old town "themed" village shops.
google avatar

Marshall G.

Yelp
This outdoor restaurant with lots of umbrellas is a great spot to stop and dine. There an only a few set ups for a couple. Mostly four or more, but we were shown to one near the bar. Our two meals were excellent and the service was prompt. i would come back. Many tourists shops on the perimeter of the eating area. We bought gift sweaters from Peru for a set of triplets. A Surprise find. !!
google avatar

Yelp
The heart of the main restaurant in Old Town! If you're at Old Town, this is the place that will catch your eyes, with their bright red umbrellas, incredible service, and beautiful setting, this is the place you need to go ASAP! My boyfriend brought my here for valentines weekend, and I absolutely love every aspect of it, we got seated immediately on a busy Sunday night, hot and fresh tortilla chips came immediately and salsa on the house! It was incredible and I could eat like 3 baskets of those... We got our main entree, my boyfriend got the steak and shrimp, and I decided to the beef enchiladas and they did not disappoint us! Flavor was delicious, lots of meat and veggies, and I absolutely loved it! It can be pricey, ranging from $18-$30, but this portion is huge and can save you for another meal! Parking was free, we found street, and it was such an incredible way to get around Old Town to try the best foods!

Yelp
Definitely a must try if you visit Old Town, San Diego. There was definitely a bit of a wait due to how crowded it was, but it was worthwhile. I ordered the carnitas plate and it was so good. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. They also give you so much food so it's also perfect to share. I really enjoyed the vibe of this place and how cute and cozy it was with outdoor festivities like music and dancing. I would definitely recommend everyone to try!!
google avatar

Emma M.

Yelp
We waited 2 hours to be seated, it was Dia de los muertos weekend. Totally understandable it was a busy weekend. The restaurant has great vibes but the food could be better. The guacamole on the plate was already turning brown when it was served at the table.
google avatar

Shanoah N.

Yelp
This restaurant was packed with a lot of people, mostly tourist. Outside of the restaurant they had Mexican street dancers. Which made it so much nicer to watch and wait for a table. Everything here was delicious just maybe a tad overpriced. The margaritas were always $20 and up. Service was fast and friendly. Some of the seating and tables looked very old. If you want to experience a real old town San Diego, this is the spot to go.
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
Enjoyable restaurant, nice breeze under the shade and good food. Only food item that was meh was the queso fundido, everything else was delicious. Service was excellent, very kind and attentive waitress.

Yelp
Wife and I came down to San Diego to visit family and they took us to Old Town San Diego to Casa de Reyes. Really nice day to be here great ambiance lots of outdoor seating! We came during Dia de Los Muertos festivities theme. Special menu! we ordered the Enchiladas de Nogada which were unique nice blend picadillo style meat (mixed ground pork and beef) with some sweetness from the savory fruity sauce very nice! Marygold Molcajete was not bad a bit small but big flavor, Mar y Tierra with SUPER TENDER steak melted in your mouth and the bacon wrapped shrimp with crab was special! Cousin wanted a Chile Verde burrito but they didn't have one on the menu but they made it for him which was very cool! Tender pork with a spice that gave a slight kick to your throat lol! Their Legendary Margarita wasn't bad very smooth but the Large seemed small, but order the Fiesta Chelada and you get to keep the cup for a special price. Overall a very nice experience!!
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Staff were super friendly and very attentative to our table. We had chicken fajitas and they were amazing. My wife and I split the fajitas and we were both full. We also really enjoyed the chips and salsa. There wasn't too much spice or onion, it was just right. We don't typically get desert, but we decided to try their fried ice cream. This was the only disappointment. I'm used to a vanilla ice cream rolled in cinnamon sugar and flakes, then deep fried. Here, they mix the ice cream heavily with the flakes before making the ball, so I feel like I got very little ice cream and tons of corn flakes, which made it not very good, and we didn't finish it. Seems like it's a way to extend thier ice cream to more servings. that's the primary reason for the 4-star rather than 5-star.
google avatar

Madeleine L.

Yelp
Honestly, the food was tasteless. Go here for the ambiance and location, but expect to pay a lot for not great food. My friend had a chicken quesadilla that looked good at first, but really lacked cheese. Keep in mind it is a quesadilla. I had a chopped salad with corn, beans, cheese and tortilla strips. I added shrimp for $6. The shrimp come out to a dollar a shrimp since there were 6. The dressing was tasteless, making the salad tasteless. Not many beans in the salad and no avocados, which were in the salad description on the menu. Simply not worth it if you are looking for flavorful Mexican food. There are many better places in Old Town.

Yelp
Casa de Reyes in Old Town SD is always brimming with excitement, conversations, music, nearby shopping, and amazing food!! Our Surf & Turf, Shrimp Enchiladas, Tacos, a delicious Burrito, and phenomenal Margaritas were delicious and served quickly and kindly by our awesome server Hetlly. We love coming here every time we're in San Diego and always have wonderful service. Thank you Hetlly and La Casa Reyes.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this spot while exploring around Old Town San Diego. Came around 6pm on Saturday night and was seated right away as a party of 2. It seemed pretty busy and our server took a while to get to us. The restaurant is located outside, but they had plenty of heat lamps around. They brought us chips and salsa while we wait. I ordered the combo of two and picked the chicken tamales and enchilada. It also came with rice and beans. The enchilada was super flavorful and delicious, but the chicken tamale was hard and the smallest amount of chicken. I DO NOT recommend the tamales. Wish I just got a full order of the enchilada. The rice was flavorful and delicious and so were the beans.

Yelp
do not recommend! i know its in a great locale with music and a very fun atmosphere but the service was terrible and the food is so bland. our waitress was so terrible, not attentive and rude. i get that they are busy but no need for such a stuck up attitude. also the food was very blah, fajitas lacked flavor, salsa was just okay and enchilada and taco were very basic and not good. there are better places there. don't recommend at all. the waitress also stares at what you are doing when you pay on the machine to see what she gets and rushes you.
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
I ordered the 3-choice plate with 2 enchiladas and a steak taco. The food was flavorful and very filling. Complimentary chips and salsa were addicting and tasted great. Service was friendly, and everything came out fresh. Overall, a solid experience--would definitely return.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good Mexican food. Everything I have tried was pretty good. I'd say the fajitas were the best. I had my 21st birthday here and I got the legendary house margarita which was good. The servers are always friendly. The seating is outside but it's always pretty nice.

Yelp
Casa de Reyes Patio is so festive. The food and service was wonderful!!!! It is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Old Town, and I have tried them all.

Yelp
Oh myy where do I even begin??! We came across this restaurant as we were walking around old town San Diego few Saturdays ago and saw how lively this restaurant was. Few Saturdays after we decided to dine here and it did not disappoint! We've heard reviews saying the wait was extremely long, but we really only waited for 15mins (For reference: party of 2 and came around 4:40pm). They had live music on the weekends around 5pm (correct me if I'm wrong) and it makes the ambience much more lively. Food was great, and they definitely didn't skimp on our portions. My favorite part was the tortillas!!
google avatar

Marlina L.

Yelp
Everything was great! Awesome food, delicious margaritas, friendly waiter, and of course the warm beautiful ambience of Old Town SD is always a plus.

Yelp
If you are in old town San Diego, this is a place you must visit! Situated at the far right corner within the park is Casa de Reyes. The food is absolutely delicious. I've tried a few different dishes and have not gone wrong with any of them. Their tortillas are always fresh and their salsa is fabulous. The service is terrific and very prompt as well as very friendly. As you're sitting outside, it will feel like you're taking away to someplace really nice in Mexico. They have a mariachi there at night. And during the day you can catch one of the traditional Mexican dances, if you're sitting close enough by the entrance. I can't get enough of this place. I could easily eat breakfast lunch and dinner here every day without ever getting tired of it.

Yelp
TOURIST TRAP! Ate here because it was a short walk from the hotel after a long day at Legoland. Service is good till your order is placed and you're locked in. Seating was fast no wait time. Drinks, chips and salsa were served fast and the only thing we enjoyed. This place has live music but the food was no good. The waitress never came back to see if we wanted any more drinks. Rose's tasting room next door saved the day I recommend for drinks. For food walk down to Cafe Coyote, best food and service in Old Town.
google avatar

Amparo I.

Yelp
We didn't get the chance to try the restaurant since we had just ate. But we did get the chance to try the fresh tortilla stand attached to the restaurant. It was one of our favorite experiences while in San Diego. Culturally we shed a tear brining back memories of our families roots. If you are in Old Town San Diego it's a must try. The staff member was very friendly and offered each member in our family a fresh tortilla.

Yelp
This place is mostly for the vibe and experience. It's in the center of old town San Diego. The colors and sounds are vibrant and lively! The service is friendly and fast. There is live music and tons of novelty drinks to choose from. The food is okay, nothing terrible and nothing great. You definitely pay for the environment and the experience. The tables are all in the center outside, but made to accommodate large groups. The tables are sticky as well as the menus.

Yelp
I love this place - definitely my most favorite spot in Old Town! Every time I go there, it is pretty packed but I never had to wait excessively - restaurant is very good with moving tables around and getting people in. Portions are VERY generous. If you are hungry and wants to split an appetizer and an entree each, be prepared to leave some food behind (or take it to go) as it is very hearty. Oh they also have live entertainment band playing which is much appreciated. If there is ever a wait for the table, you can grab a drink at a small bar cart outside and enjoy the music while waiting

Yelp
Love the ambiance with the live music. Food & drinks were ok. Ordered a jalapeno margarita but was very disappointed as it tasted like a classic margarita with a few slices of jalapeno Staff were friendly.

Yelp
We had such a fun time with our family party of 7 including 3 grandkids. The place was packed on a Saturday evening with a fantastic band and lively vibe. Kids loved their Electric Strawberry slushies. The margaritas were excellent with option of Tajin or salt rim. Portions were so huge, but we managed to eat it all. I had the shrimp ceviche appetizer as my meal and the shrimp was plentiful and "cooked" just right with fresh cucumbers, avocado and perfectly seasoned with fresh lime, lemon, onions and peppers. The gigantic steak and shrimp Chipotle burrito was huge, loaded with shrimp, tender steak and rich creamy chipotle sauce. The shrimp and steak Enchiladas were "top notch" as well as the steak taco. Beans are creamy and perfectly seasoned along side flavorful rice. Although it was super busy, our server was prompt and attentive, bringing us a 2nd and 3rd basket of chips with several refills of salsa. Never had to ask for anything. We lacked nothing! The salsa was among the best we've had, akin to one of our family members, "Pappy's" salsa. Really great, finely diced and freshmade! This is a real hit for a great time with great food, band and service!

Yelp
I forgot to take photos of the meal, but I took a selfie with my childhood friend. It was our first time eating here, and we loved it! The atmosphere was great! It was lively and fun. Open patio, great weather, good music. The server was nice but lacked being more professional. Not very attentive. The chips and salsa were very good; the salsa was very tasty and a little spicy. The food was so-so. Prices were decent for the area. Drinks are overpriced, especially their Margaritas. Tips: -There is a 4% fee added to each check. -Parking can be limited It feels like this place is more interested in selling drinks than anything. Margaritas are close to 19 dollars. Overall: This place has the coolest shops, decor, and ambiance. If they would focus on customer space and the food quality a bit more, it would be fantastic. We have always loved to pay a little more for quality food and experience, but this place took more than it gave. If I come back, it will be because my friend invited me again. Other than that, I would not come back.

Yelp
I used to like coming here for the experience in all the halloween decorations, but it's really getting ran dow, this table im always sat at which is a high table that chair is all broken. The chair is very hard and your thighs hurt from your legs, dangling because the footrest below was broke. I had to send back my food twice, because it came to me cold.
