"Costa Rica attracts American eco-tourists seeking pura vida, but the Central American country’s cuisine isn’t represented as predominantly in the U.S. restaurant market. One of the Portland area’s only Costa Rican restaurants, however, serves Tico (Costa Rican) faves like gallo pinto, fried white rice and beans, and chifrijo, a.k.a. fried pork, pico de gallo, rice, and beans, served with tortilla chips for scooping. Casa del Pollo is also known for its roast chicken; any of the Costa Rican specialties work as a natural pairing for the restaurant’s birds." - Krista Garcia

Nice place in LO. Authentic food and nice staff. They were having an issue with the POS but it was well communicated. They were busy and did great. We got the gallo pintos and chicken as well as the tacos and yuca frita. Ceviche Friday & Saturdays and Beef stew on Fridays. The outside area looks nice but we sat inside. You should definitely check it out!

I have been here so many times. I cannot get enough of the smoked chicken. Everything I've had has been freaking phenomenal ❣️ Everyone is super nice too. But the food is just so good. Highly recommend!

Google
Great place to get some authentic Costa Rican and Latin cuisine. Chicken with white rice and black beans plus plantains hit the spot. Mario the owner was really attentive and took care of us!

I recently realized Casa Del Pollo is my happy place! They have my favorite ceviche de pescado with lime based. They know me so well now that I get two extra lemons with my large order without asking! Another favorite staple is the fried plantain! I enjoy my 30 minutes drive here from SE Portland every chance I get. Supper casual decorating with cool and random artifacts from Costa Rica. Small family owned, second generation now, Mario and his wife are running it. My dear former boss and now friend introduced me to it right before Covid from 2 of their previous locations and now I'm a fan for life! I'm so glad this location in Lake Oswego works out for them. I love it here especially during spring and summer because it's reminiscent the ambiance of tropical weather while enjoying my delicious ceviche de pescado and el platano frito. Go check them out!

Google
Smoked chicken lovers rejoice! Chill, quiet place serving fantastic Costa Rican style smoked chicken. Everything on the menu is great, you can't really go wrong. I recommend the 1/4 Chicken Casado style, but if you want something a little less involved, the smoked chicken burrito is great, too. The owners and staff are super nice and welcoming and provide great service. But the chicken is the real star - I've never had a bad meal here!

It’s not very often you eat at an establishment for lunch and want to get it again for dinner. That was us on Saturday. The aromatic and flavorful food was unlike anything we’d eaten in a very long time. You’d close your eyes and could believe you were eating in Costa Rica. The service was outstanding and truly could taste the love put into the cuisine.

Google
Jorge and his family own this restaurant and the moment you walk in, you get the feeling of entering a home that is warm and welcoming. The food is fresh, the taste is impeccable and if you have not tried their fried plantains, you are missing out. The roast chicken tasted so good that my son did not want to share it with my husband so I had to order more, the vegetarian tacos were yummy, if you have a few moments, do walk around and look at all the photos on their walls, it takes you back to the real Costa Rica. This family owned spot is a must go for anyone who loves good food. The people are so down to earth and kind which is the icing on the cake. Too bad, I was so busy enjoying the food that I forgot to take pictures but I will Next week.

Google
Stumbled upon this place for lunch on a Saturday and just… wow. We got a quarter chicken plate with rice and carrots and the beef soup that’s only available during winter weekends. Both had different flavors but equally as good. The beef was soft and the smoked chicken were both tasty. The carrots in both plates were astonishing. Service was great, the owner was helpful and friendly. You can tell they put their hearts into it. Will definitely be returning.

Yelp
I'm always so happy to get my healthy addiction doses of lime based pescado ceviche and fried plaintain at Casa del Pollo! I wish they would offer the delicious ceviche every day instead of only Friday and Saturday. If you haven't had their ceviche, what's are you waiting for? I am a regular here ever since my dear friend introduced me to it in 2020 at Bangy location. It's nice the owner, Mario knows my order and how much extra lime I love to have on my ceviche. I do miss seeing his dad, Jorge, that original owner. I'm glad he's finally a full-time retiree! It's super casual, small family owned and run Costa Rican cruise. Check them out!

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time yesterday - we got Roasted Chicken Tacos, Chips & Guac and Margs. Everything was delicious and the service was great! Highly recommend.

Carol Y.

Yelp
Very charming with a laid back atmosphere. Service was spot on and very friendly. They also have outdoor seating available. The menu also has an all day breakfast item... never know when you are craving breakfast.

David F.

Yelp
The experience today, compared to when I was at their old location during Covid, was remarkably better. First, the service by Chris was great. Friendly, helpful and attentive. Next, the food. Tried a half roasted chicken (as I got their early and the smoked version wasn't ready yet). Wow! Tender with a crispy skin, black beans, rice, carrots and tortillas along with a homemade red sauce and a green (chimichurri) sauce. Finished with a great coconut flan that was creamy good. Take note: the chicken portions are huge - not the puny sized chicken you get at a chain. There is both inside and outside dining but you have to look for their sign as parking is in the back. Will be back.

Edward M.

Yelp
What a great surprise! Although probably should not be since we found it on Eater. Better food than anything I experienced in Costa Rica. Great service. Enjoyed chatting with Mario at order counter. We were surprised that the dining room was not too busy. Most seem to place take out orders, which there were al lot of. Highly recommended.

Dudley G.

Yelp
I went for dinner last night at this authentic and welcoming local restaurant for the best onsite smoked chicken you'll find North of Central America. This is a family owner and operated Costa Rican place that is true to its name and executes it without flaw. Succulent chicken, rice/beans, weekends feature home made ceviche and a bonus - Cuba Libre! Very generous portions too. Mario the owner personally greets and checks in on everyone. Most everyone he greets by their first name. This is the true sign of a loyal following and an owner that puts customer service at the top. My only regret is that I did not discover this gem sooner. Do yourself a solid and stop by.

Jerome R.

Yelp
I love the food. I have only used their take out service. They are friendly with a great sense of humor, when you miss pronounce the words on their menu. The restaurant is small and cozy with a lot of personality. There is also outside seating.

Larry C.

Yelp
Smoked chicken burrito is to live for. I love sharing this with a friend. Many great meals here The setting is quaint. They do a lot of take out/ delivery too. Fast service, never a disappointment.

Lisa C.

Yelp
So I was in Lake Oswego for work after having moved to Costa Rica from the Portland area. I guess I was feeling a little homesick and, to my surprise, there was a Costa Rican restaurant just down the road from my office. I was blown away as I NEVER see Costa Rican restaurants in my travels. I stopped in and ordered lunch, choosing from the "Eat like a Tico" side of the menu. I ordered a traditional plate with rice & beans, also known as gallo pinto, and I got the roast chicken because I heard it was great there. OH MY GOODNESS, IT WAS SO GOOD. That chicken...seriously, the flavor was amazing, and it was cooked to perfection. And that gallo pinto was among the best I've had anywhere. Seriously, it WAY exceeded my expectations. Costa Ricans aren't big on spice or heat as a rule, and I've definitely had some bland "afterthought" renditions of the gallo pinto. This was not that. It was good as a stand alone. I had time to chat with the Tico owners and they were lovely as well and were very encouraging of my pitiful attempt at Spanish (I'm still learning lol). It was so much fun speaking with them. I will definitely be stopping by again next time I'm in the states for any reason. They are not to be missed.

Jake B.

Yelp
Have been here many times. This is hands down my favorite place to eat in Lake Oswego. If you like authentic Costa Rican food. You need to get here. The Casado is a must try.

Ericka Q.

Yelp
went to try this place since I am costarican and wanted to have some food from home....we ordered the arroz con pollo which was tasteful just way to many veggies for my taste and no beans on the side which back home I am used to. We also tried the pinto, it was okay but it was lacking some flavor. My favorite was the gallitos de sarchichon, this was absolutely delicious and I recommend if you go here this is the must have!!

Nicole S.

Yelp
CANCEL YOUR PLANS AND GO EAT CEVICHE*, SMOKED CHICKEN (with rice, beans, and pickled vegetables), AND PLANTAINS HERE NOW. *Ceviche is served on Fridays and Saturdays only. Seriously, this place is legit. Small, cozy, family-run business. Best food I have had in Lake O, some of the best food I've ever had, period. We will be back, maybe I will just start living there.

Sam T.

Yelp
Fantastic!! Super friendly and the food is made with great skill and care to quality!

L R.

Yelp
Everything I've had is so good. Their chimi sauce, chicken plate, burrito (especially the smoked).

Kwin B.

Yelp
The BEST Burrito I have had in the Portland Oregon area. Great quality ingredients, (the smoked chicken was incredible). FAT burrito and cheap! the fried Yuca was superb too! Highly recommend this place

Chul L.

Yelp
Their Roasted Chicken is simply amazing! Their hot sauce is really good as well. The owner is super friendly as well. Can't wait to try the other items on their menu

Raeann P.

Yelp
This place is solid. It's good food, good menu options - and honestly, though it's simple, sometimes simple is best! We ordered catering for a dinner (as we have many times before) and this food is a great option for those events! We ordered half chickens, rice, beans, carrots and onions, and lots of sauce! SO tasty. Give it a try for your next catering needs!

Geralynn S.

Yelp
The food was amazing and delicious! Mario was so welcoming to me and my family and is such a nice guy! My family and I shared a large bowl of ceviche, which was so good! My daughter had the carne tacos, which she really loved. My husband and I shared the pinto con roasted chicken plate and it was so flavorful and delicious. My son had a pork burrito, which he kept saying was so good. Then we finished off with the tres leches cake, that you could tell was made from scratch and not boxed cake mix. All the food portions were very generous, delicious and filling. We will be coming back again. Thank you, Mario!

Louisa A.

Yelp
Best burritos in Oregon!!! veggie options too. Salsas are fire. The people r super friendly!

Allan C.

Yelp
I had a chicken dish that was amazing. The indoor seating is small but workable. It's a place I'll recommend but want to go back and try other items on the menu.

Chris G.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! My GF and I went on a Thursday night to dine in. They have a large TV which had soccer on. Cute place with simple, casual dining. It smelled amazing! I ordered the smoked chicken plate with rice and beans. My GF had three tacos (pork, roast chicken and smoked chicken). She's not a huge fan of anything with a smoked flavor, but she loved the smoked chicken taco best. I love smoked meats and loved my smoked chicken! It was so delicious. Not overly smoked. Just the right balance. The rice and beans was incredible too! After, we had the best fried plantains we've ever had. The service was fantastic too! My only nit pick is that the to go containers were not earth friendly (styrofoam). We will definitely be back!

John C.

Yelp
Came in with the family today. Have not been in for years since I changed jobs. Always enjoyed the food. The chicken tacos tonight were very good and filling. Service was friendly as before. My wife and daughter had the taco platters. The black beans are also very good. It was my daughter that got us to come out since she discovered the place with some friends. She absolutely loves it. The inside is nice, nothing too special. But this is not where you come for a fancy meal, just a good one. There are some tables outside in the back, that is where we sat. Good stuff. Recommend.

L.e. L.

Yelp
The burritos are huge and so tasty! Its a great place for lunch and quick bite to eat.

Ginger F.

Yelp
Looking for friendly family ambience and delicious culturally rich food? Look no further. We enjoyed every bite of our meals. The guacamole was fresh and tasty. The fried platanos the perfect salty sweet combo. The bistec was good and even better with the magic green sauce. The pork burrito was loaded and the size a small baby. We took desserts to go and can't wait to go back for more.

Alan L.

Yelp
I was looking for a Latin flair while visiting the Lake Oswego area and my daughter had said she had eaten at Casa del Pollo once before and the food was good. We did a take order. The order was ready in about 15 minutes. The order included a 1/2 Smoked Chicken Casado - It is a plate with rice, beans & pickled onions carrots. A Chicken Burrito includes rice, beans, and pico de gallo. A Veggie Burrito includes rice and beans and pico de gallo, with pickled onions and carrots. and 2 orders of ( Sweet ) Fried Plantains. This was for 5 people. The amount of food was massive. One order of plantains would have been sufficient enough. I'm a big fan of burritos. Each burrito we had was humungous. Never have eaten a burrito filled with tons of smoked chicken. It was delicious. I couldn't finish it. Whenever I'm in town I know where to head for great food at reasonable prices.

Margie A.

Yelp
Excellent! Perfect for parties when you do not want to cook! Tons of food- we over ordered!! And enjoyed the leftovers. We had the grilled and the smoked chicken dinners for 5 people and that was enough for ten people! Great tortillas and I think the smoked chicken was my favorite but-- they were both really good. Great value!! Great salad too!

Cathy P.

Yelp
Still outstanding food and service. They've apparently moved from the Bangy Road place back to their old Boones Ferry Road location. It's actually much better as there is a parking lot in the back making it easier to get curbside pickup (which they are still doing). The Zuniga family own and run the restaurant and they treat everyone like family or old friends. They are obviously very proud of their food as the quality and care that goes into each dish shines through. The thing I like about it most is like they say themselves "our meals are light on grease and great on taste." The roast chicken is delicious and I still highly recommend it. The other Latin options on the menu are surprisingly healthy as well. DO NOT miss the green salsa, whatever you do. To steal a line from a current TV commercial "I'd put that $%#@ on everything!!!" This visit my husband and I ordered the same thing, the Casado con Pollo ($12.00): grilled chicken fillets (I got four generous boneless pieces) on a plate with rice, black beans & pickled onions carrots. Tortillas are available upon request and I always forget to request them. I had enough food for a nice big chicken salad the next day too. Once this dang COVID pandemic is over we have to go back and try the ceviche that is only served on Friday and Saturday. It's sad that some Yelp reviewers judge Costa Rican food as being bland. Costa Ricans love garlic, but generally go really, really easy on other spices. Nothing is overly spicy or hot (as in chili pepper heat). Costa Rican food is also very similar to Mexican food but very differently prepared. Just keep that in mind so you aren't disappointed when your "tacos ticos" arrive at your table as rolled corn tortillas, filled with shredded beef (or other meat filling), then fried. They are topped with shredded cabbage and lots of ketchup and mayonnaise. French fries are usually but not always served alongside. It's all good at Casa del Pollo.

Teresa A.

Yelp
That lonely star goes to the yuca frita! The chicken and chicken tacos a complete disappointment! The tacos were bland, the food was colorless and very blah... I will not be coming back. The guy behind the counter very rude!

Benjamin H.

Yelp
Sadly after my first order here, it's all been downhill. The second time I ordered a whole chicken for my family and it seemed like it was off. Tonight I tried again, some tacos. They weren't bad but just kind of barely acceptable, I could cook better at home and my cooking is pretty poor. Bland cubes of chicken and pork.

Mark S.

Yelp
Love the new delivery packages. Much better than the prior. Thank you. Food is always terrific no matter what is ordered.

Morgen O.

Yelp
Stumbled across this restaurant by accident and it will be my new go-to. Amazing food, hearty portions, fast service, and super friendly owners. Very welcoming environment for my family and I, we will be back soon!

Dina C.

Yelp
Poor quality food!! I'm having a hard time believing the positive 4 star reviews. The baked chicken was dry, the black beans tasted like they came out of a can, the tortillas were stale. The owners should be embarrassed about the quality of food they serve their customer!!!

Dana B.

Yelp
There is nothing I don't love about CDP. I love the family that rins it, the ambience, the welcome, and very definitely the good. Best chicken you ever had.

Kaitlin C.

Yelp
Smoked chicken burrito is huge and full of flavor. You can tell they care about the food they make. The Mister Ed tacos are a must, flavorful sausage and tasty condiments. Margaritas are tangy and not too sweet. Always love coming here!

Dave D.

Yelp
Hospitality and food are outstanding. Family owned by first class people. Always fresh.

Michele M.

Yelp
Delicious food, generous portions and friendly service!! My husband had the 1/4 smoked chicken casio plate, I had the 3 tacos! Lots of leftovers Pura Vida

Tommy R.

Yelp
This place was one of my favorite restaurants before I even found out about the smoked chicken which is phenomenal. Really great food, always fresh and delicious ingredients. Really nice and welcoming owners. I come here once a week when I'm in town.

Katharine G.

Yelp
Excellent service, very kind staff. We felt like family or something. The food is delicious and portions are quite generous. The hot sauce is hot - don't be fooled! Very good guac, don't skip it.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Food was amazing!! Fast and very friendly service Would recommend to anyone We had Pinto Con Roast Chicken Would like to try more

Garrett E.

Yelp
I've been here a number of times and have enjoyed it each time. The restaurant works up the Costa Rican heritage of the owner quite well. The food is phenomenal, especially the smoked chicken. I also like that they have some books on Costa Rica you can read while waiting for food. Lastly, the place is calm and comfortable.

S S.

Yelp
The food is good quality but for a $14 smoked chicken burrito it was bland and very dry, not as good as any food cart burrito or even Baja Fresh. For the price it should at least come with sour cream and cheese, by the time you add those options you are close to $20! I won't be going back, there's far better options for the price.

Negar B.

Yelp
Great service and food. Smoky flavor and good spices. Good portions and variety . We did take out

Beth W.

Yelp
We love this place!! The chicken is out of this world, so delicious. There's nothing even comparable anywhere around Portland. I always eat way too much here because it's so good. Also everyone who works here is so incredibly nice. Highly recommend!!

Sam L.

Yelp
This place serves authentic, Costa Rican food! They obviously do what they love and love what they do! You can taste it in every bite!

Luzmila G.

Yelp
So good! I just moved to Portland and miss my grandmas cooking this was pretty darn close! Definitely recommend el pinto with chicken. *chef's kiss* ok bye!

Jessie H.

Yelp
Amazing food friendly staff. The chicken is awesome. My kid is now fully addicted to the tortillas and I am to the green sauce

Coco B.

Yelp
What other Costa Rican restaurant has kick !?$ food and a live band busting a move ? Casa Del Pollo ! The little red house on boones ferry with George outside mesmerizing us with his BBQ aroma . They have since moved . Same street ( boones ferry ) they are in the complex on the street . Next to the music store . Also across from Starbucks and lake grove elementary. You won't be disappointed. And always have been greeted with a warm smile . I even got my teenager ( adult now ) to love it ! Now 19 and raves about the place . Enjoy . The chicken is kicking!

Eliza B.

Yelp
The owners were chill but the food was a lot less flavorful than I was expecting. We only got chicken tacos and a pork burrito so I can't speak for the rest of the menu but both items definitely needed more seasoning. We were surprised because the reviews are so high. I guess for lake Oswego it makes sense.

Michelle Y.

Yelp
The roasted chicken is so, so good. And the pickled onions and carrots. Yummy. I love this restaurant. They are so nice and the portions are more than generous. It's also got a nice little patio if you wanted to eat outside. So nice to have them back on Boones Ferry Road!! Yay!

Aaron M.

Yelp
I have spent a total of two months in Costa Rica and have eaten a healthy share of Gallo pinto con pollo. Amigos, I'm telling you Casa del Pollo serves the best I've ever had. The chicken was perfectly flavored and prepared. I believe via smoker/rotisserie. Oh my gosh it is so good! And the gallo pinto made me feel like I was in Costa Rica. The restaurant is adorable and the staff couldn't be more kind and generous. Can't wait to return. Pura Vida!
