Casa Delfino, Chania, Crete - Explore & Book

"No, you haven’t clicked on the wrong country - despite the hotel’s Italian name, this is Greece, or more precisely Crete. Chania, of course, was a major sea-port for the Venetians, who controlled the eastern Mediterranean from here until the 17th-century. Their beautifully-built harbour walls, merchants’ homes, arsenals and warehouses have survived to make the town a delightful base for any trip to western Crete, and a cut above any other Greek city. The Casa Delfino matches this beauty in its 22 tastefully restored suites and apartments, all housed deep within a 17th-century mansion. Take a few steps off the bustling seafront and you will find yourself in a cobbled court oozing a peacefulness and style rare in Greek (or Italian) hotels. Marble tables and fer forgé chairs line an arched portico, while potted geraniums, tall cactuses and pebble-mosaics add colour. The bedrooms are no less sumptuous, with vaulted ceilings, marble floors, sitting areas and Jacuzzis in the suites. La dolce vita, Greek style… Highs There's a wonderful sense of seclusion, despite its proximity to the bustling waterfrontThe larger suites are seriously impressive, with sitting areas, Jacuzzi tubs, mezzanine bedrooms, and private roof patios in someExcellent, largely organic breakfast There's a decent spa tooVery helpful staff, brilliantly led by Margarita (the owner's daughter) Lows Many rooms are dark - a blessing in hot weather but a bit gloomy in winterNot all the suites have balconies; the addition of these would make them near on perfectLight sleepers may be troubled by pedestrian street noise in summer - though you can shut the window and switch on the air-conYou need to book early for the Penthouse and Honeymoon SuitesIt's expensive by Greek standards (but worth it!)" - Michael Cullen

Casa Delfino | Best places to stay in Crete

"If heritage charm in the heart of Chania’s old town is what you’re after, look no further. Casa Delfino is a 17th-century Venetian mansion that has been in the same family for six generations. Suites are individually furnished, with a modern sensibility rather than period décor. Lavish marble bathrooms are almost as sensuous as the spa. Open year-round, Casa Delfino is easily the most romantic option in Chania. The view across the harbour from the roof terrace is sensational. A superb Cretan breakfast in the mosaic-lined, arched courtyard is equally enchanting. " - Rachel Howard

We had an amazing stay at Casa Delfino. The place is beautiful, with a charming setup and an atmosphere that makes you feel instantly relaxed. Even though we visited during the off-season, the level of service was exceptional. From Margarita, the Director, to Nikos at breakfast, and every staff member we met—reception, housekeeping, everyone—showed genuine dedication and warmth. They were always ready with a friendly smile and great recommendations for exploring the area, including museums, restaurants, and local spots worth visiting. Their commitment and hospitality truly made our stay unforgettable. Highly recommended.

Our stay at Casa Delfino was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. The hotel itself is a beautifully restored 17th-century Venetian mansion tucked away in the heart of Chania’s Old Town — peaceful, elegant, and full of charm. It’s only a short stroll from the waterfront and the many lovely restaurants and cafés that make Chania such a quaint and enchanting town. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. Margarita, the owner, was super lovely and incredibly informative — she took the time to share local recommendations and made us feel truly welcome. It was such a thoughtful touch to be collected from the nearby car park and brought to the hotel in a little golf buggy, which made arrival smooth and stress-free. Our room was beautifully presented and very comfortable, with all the small details that make a stay feel special. Breakfast in the tranquil courtyard was a highlight — fresh local produce, homemade pastries, and excellent coffee. We also enjoyed the spa, where Maya gave a deeply therapeutic massage in the hammam — one of the best we’ve had anywhere. The rooftop terrace is another gem: the views over the harbour and the rooftops of Chania are simply stunning, especially at sunset. Every part of the hotel feels cared for, from the decor to the warm, personal service. Casa Delfino is a true oasis in one of Crete’s loveliest towns. We left feeling relaxed, restored, and already planning to return.

We loved our stay at Casa Delfino. Such a beautiful property in Chania old town a stones throw from everything. The service of the staff was exemplary and we were treated like royalty. The breakfast buffet was yummy and the room was very comfortable as was the bed. The location was perfect! We even met the owner Margarite in our last day and she bent over backwards to give us recommendations for our onward journey. One of best hotels we’ve ever stayed in, authentically Cretan. Highly recommend!

A lovely well maintained gem in the old city. The hotel truly did its best to make my solo trip go nicely with plenty of useful advice. I took a taxi to a nearby beach everyday to get away from the masses but on a day when it was cloudier the beach about 15 minutes away was awesome. The hotel kindly guided me towards it equipping me what I needed. The breakfast each day was very good. The staff was always kind and helpful. I definitely recommend this hotel.

Set in charming Chania, easy walking distance from harbor. Old world boutique hotel with gorgeous courtyard, large well appointed rooms, tucked in area inaccessible to cars. |This may sound like a huddle but is not because they can pick you up in golf cart if short walk with luggage tough for you!||Such a delightful, engaging, helpful staff. They went out of their way to make our experience on Crete such a memorable one. They Assisted us in getting a rental car, planning a few day trips, and could not have been kinder. |Breakfast was wonderful, and enjoyable with smiling staff anticipating your needs!||Casa Delfino was our trip’s biggest bonus! Margarita is making her family proud!

The hotel was super clean with a great breakfast. We felt the lower tier room we got was a bit overstated online, bathroom shower was super small and the room space was not represented by the pics online. Staff was very nice at all times, but we did have to wait for an iron and had someone try to provide us a last-night candy without knocking. Roof view was very nice, bar is not always available.

What a charming and cozy hotel, perfectly situated in the old town of Chania and run by Margarita and her friendly staff. Our family had a wonderful time and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The hotel exudes authentic charm, with a beautiful courtyard shaded by trees, very spacious and impeccably clean rooms, and a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere.||Margarita was the perfect host always available with tips, advice, and thoughtful trip suggestions. She was incredibly responsive and personally engaged, making sure we got the very best out of our time in Chania. Actually the entire staff were soo friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly at home.||Thank you so much for an unforgettable stay — we can certainly give Casa Delfino our absolute best recommendation.

Great stay here for a week for the most part. First the good things - the location is perfect, in the heart of the old town Chania. Staff is very friendly and incredibly helpful. Breakfast is good but not the best in Greece. The house coffee is a bit weak. Wi-fi works well for the most part. The room was large and the beds were comfortable. Parking is included and the private lot is about a 10 minute walk away. The hotel has a golf cart to help transport your bags to the car at check-in and check-out. The rooftop has a nice bar and a great view of the harbor. Cocktails were excellent but a bit pricey. ||My only complaint and this was a big one was the shower in the room. Terrible design, hard to use and a bit dangerous to get into and out of. Water gets all over the floor. The hotel should fix the shower and make it nice. They have an oversized bath tub that is useless and should be removed. The shower is located inside the bathtub - so hard to maneuver and frustrating.
