Casa do Rio

Our stay at Casa do Rio was truly perfect, beginning with the exceptional service provided by Gonçalo and his team. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel special on our honeymoon. The location is breathtaking, and no photos can truly capture its beauty. The food at the restaurant was the best we’ve experienced in Portugal so far, and the wines offered a wonderful introduction to this remarkable wine region. We will definitely return at some point in our lives, as this place has carved out a special place in our hearts.

I can’t imagine that there is ever anything negative to say about Casa do Rio. It’s just a lovely place where everyone wants you to be happy and enjoy yourselves. We wished that we would have stayed longer but loved our 2 days there. Everything about the hotel is fantastic including the staff. They are so accommodating and welcoming. We completely enjoyed our wine tasting with Dario and were happy to be able to ship some wine home.|The food was amazing and there were really nice entree choices for dinner. We enjoyed the dining atmosphere and being able to relax there at the start and end of the day. |We can’t wait to return.

What a perfect getaway in the remote valleys of the Douro river.|The whole concept is perfect. Its not cheap but you get:|- great premises incl a lounge area and a welcome glass (or two) of Portwine|- ever so friendly staff, most of them with a very good command of english|- great views|- free e-bike|- three different hiking trips around the area, you´ll get a PDF map of those|- very good breakfast and dinner on location, dinner with good wines, absolutely priceworthy|- if you happen to stay in one of the two remote "suite", you ´ll have your own little plunge pool, an open fire place and an own golf cart to0 cover the ca 800m to the main house for eating||Maybe I forgot something... but we would definitely come again!

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in July 2024. Really loved it! The staff/service is excellent and friendly. The grounds and view are absolutely beautiful. The rooms are nice and bed is very comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent, and the dinners with wine pairings were also good. Casa Do Rio is an excellent place for a romantic getaway - I will recommend it to all my friends visiting Douro Valley. The only drawback is that you do need a car to get to it, and it is not that close to the main Douro tourist areas. However, I think it's worth making Casa Do Rio your destination and taking part in their daily wine tastings/happy hours instead, and just relaxing on the property.

We had an unbelievable stay at Casa Do Rio. Everything from the staff to the location was absolutely perfect. We felt taken care of and appreciate everything from the team. The dinner and wine was absolutely delicious. Thank you to the staff for making this such a special play.

We stayed here for 2 nights, we had hoped to stay 3 but there was no availability.|The hotel has a laid back feel and is so grounded in nature that you immediately feel relaxed.|Each area of the hotel is well thought through, from the small plunge pools, shaded terrace to the interiors. The terrace of our room was a perfect spot to relax, but inside there was a comfy sofa area too. The room definitely made the most of the spectacular views. We had sunset swims, the sky was perfect for star gazing, and we made use of the canoes. It was all over too quickly, however we look forward to our next stay. Magical.

If you love wine and food, and crave an idyllic spot in the Douro to relax and indulge, Casa do Rio is for you. The location is remote, but that's part of the point. The property, the people, the service, and the food were outstanding and memorable. Daniel, Gonsalvo, Beatriz and the entire team were so knowledgeable about wine and the region, and gave us the best service we've ever received in a hotel. The dinners were sprawling and filled with the highest quality wines we tasted on our trip. And I'll very much miss the after dinner cheese buffet :) We cannot wait to return here one day, and will dream of it!

A spectacular find in the Superior Region of Douro. Perfect in so many ways. River views were fantastic. A very small place that accommodates your ever need. Rooms were very nice and well appointed. A spa. Fantastic dinners & breakfast. Bikes (although not for all - difficult terrain). Plenty of walking to be done. Took a boat ride on the Douro. The hotel packed us a great picnic lunch. Highly recommend it for a getaway from the cities. Very Peaceful. Will go back.
