Best Mexican Restaurants in Las Vegas | Eater Vegas

"Located in the heart of the Arts District, Casa Don Juan celebrates the work of Mexican artist Frida Khalo. One of the few spots to offer tamales by the dozen also offers a classic Mexican menu with soups, tortas, and tostadas on it — most dishes come slathered in melted cheese and with sides of rice and beans. Three locations across the city feature this abuelita style of cooking." - Janna Karel

Where to find the best Mexican tamales in Las Vegas | Eater Vegas

"The charming restaurant serves tamales four ways: with chicken and green sauce, pork with red sauce, cheese and jalapeños, or pineapple and raisins. For a little extra kick, diners can try them enchilada style. Diners can order tamales at any of Casa Don Juan’s three locations including one in the Arts District right on Main Street." - Krista Diamond

This was the BEST food I've had. Double-sized portions with low pricing. I was at the restaurant on Sunset for my birthday. Shrimp burrito, fajitas and a tostada bowl. Service and atmosphere are perfect. Some Pinkbox for dessert.

I think I've died and gone to Mexican Food Heaven. The Chicken Mole had me almost in tears. The Sopa De Fideo was rich and tasty. The table salsa and chips were heavenly. Service impeccable. Muchas Gracias 🫡👌

Google
This is my favorite Mexican spot in town. The carne asada is perfectly cooked and seasoned and they give you a good amount of it with your food. I usually get the carne asada plate but this time around I tried chilaquiles and it will be my new go-to. I recommend trying it with both red and green sauce with eggs over medium

Google
Service excellent. Food, where do I start. We ordered guacamole, and it tasted like it came out of a container (not fresh). Ordered shrimp fajitas, the shrimp was so overcooked and like rubber. Beans and rice were good. Asada burrito, even with green sauce, was bland. Chips were fair. Have been to the Main St location, and the food was much better. Try harder, Sunset.

Google
We have eaten here several times. Last night we ordered enchiladas and tacos… the refried beans were horrible! Soupy, seemed like they were running short and just added water, the beans made the taco soggy, and the taco had an awful aftertaste, like maybe it was old meat. We used to love this place….. not anymore!! We didn’t even eat a third of the meal… however the chips and salsa are awesome.

Google
I read a bunch of reviews before going here. I ordered the lunch special chili Verde it comes with rice and beans. Good news: the chili Verde was nice and hot from the fire. Bad news: it came with tomatoes and onions and had 5 small pieces of meat, yes i counted them. Chips and salsa: salsa had very little flavor. I asked for something hotter and they brought me the green salsa and charged me $2.99 for it. They did not tell me about the charge. Diet drink 🤣 charged $4.01 really $4.01 wth. The place was clean and the staff was friendly.

Meh, Food 2.5/5: Got shrimp tacos (again). Very under seasoned. Found the shrimp a little bit dry as well. Needs more mexican flavours. The queso dip was just ok and nothing special. Food could definitely use more flavour. Service 4/5: Great servers, drinks were refilled without being asked. Atmosphere 5/5: Great Mexican feel. Decor was def authentic from the table to the kitchen. Overall 2.5/5: wouldn’t be my first choice of mexican in the area.

The staff here are fun and love to keep you happy w food and drinks. Our waiter Victor was not only funny but fast and never let our drinks get empty. This is a spot for great Mexican food and drinks in town. So come in hungry and leave wobbly and happy

Yelp
The service is beyond amazing! They have set the bar high for other restaurants. We came for lunch, and I got the lunch special (Mole). The portion was filling and delicious. We loved the complementary chips and salsa, and the cup of soup before our meal was a hit!

Yelp
Was craving some solid Mexican food and went with the three chicken enchiladas with rice and beans for $18. The enchiladas were weak, and the whole plate felt like a ripoff. Chips and salsa were also disappointing. The chips were very good, but the salsa didn't have much flavor. The bar is decent, with good flat screens and friendly people, but the food just doesn't deliver. Unless it's the only option, I'll stick with Lindo Michoacán or Juan's Flaming Fajitas.

Yelp
Great food, service and atmosphere. They have the best Chile Relleno! It's definitely worth driving across town to dine here.

Yelp
Went for lunch in between meetings...convenient location right on Sunset Road by Eastern. Got the shrimp fajita lunch special comes with soup or salad which was nice..got the salad. Service was great and staff friendly - the only reason for 4 out of 5 star was they use the small shrimp for the fajita...in the city of excess like Vegas I guess I'm used to the larger shrimp..so that was a little disappointing. Why not offer the shrimp meals at higher cost & use the bigger ones? Other than that...it was very good.

Yelp
We love coming here because the food is always good. We always get chicken mole enchiladas because the mole sauce is soo good. We tried breakfast this time and it did not disappoint. The green chilaquiles were spicy! It came with lots of food. We love the complimentary chips with salsa and beans! Inside the restaurant is super colorful and very pretty. We love their decorative walls and all the different colors. Service is always amazing.

Yelp
My first time at this restaurant and was greatly impressed. We sat in the bar area and had the bartender change the TV's to a baseball game and he didn't hesitant. He came out to check on us before and during our dinner. He was nice and professional. The food was amazing. Only had the enchiladas, but it had a lot of flavor! The restaurant had a nice feel to it, but we opted for the bar. The prices were very reasonable. Definitely will be going back!

Yelp
Best in Vegas! We frequent both the downtown and Sunset locations. The food is consistently delicious. The servers are lovely. The decor is bright and colorful, just like Mexico... so many fun details you might miss but someone put a lot of thought into the decor. I appreciate their dedication to Frida Kahlo. The Downtown location has her more prominently featured. Their chips are fresh and served warm with perfect salsa and beans. My boyfriend says the beans taste just like his mom and grandma used to make... They have the BEST queso dip I've ever had. My favorite meal is the beef chimichanga, or #23 with the grilled flank steak and cheese enchilada. He usually gets a torta or a burrito. Portions are huge, we always have leftovers. Dinners are served with fideo soup. It's a challenge to save room for the main dish! The margaritas are good but not always consistent, depends on the bartender. We usually order a Cadillac pitcher, but they have many flavor options, rocks or frozen. We always leave full and happy!

Yelp
This was my first time visiting. I asked a friend who lives in the area for suggestion and ended up here. The menudo was delicious!

Yelp
Delicious Mexican food at reasonable prices. I was so happy to find their location in Henderson. I love their Main Street LV location but this is much closer to home for same wonderful food and ambiance. Staff and service very welcoming and attentive.

Yelp
Sooooo cute. A really vibrant and colorful restaurant with staff dressed in traditional Mexican clothing. It was a slow Saturday when my family and I stopped by for dinner. The service was quick and the food was really good. I ordered a fried fish with a sign of beans, rice and handmade flour tortillas. I'm glad my fried fish wasn't too greasy or salty. I paired it with an horchata. Horchata quality to me is very important because I prefer a traditional rice drink over a dairy-powder made horchata that's store bought. Thankfully their horchata is traditional and simply rice milk and cinnamon. My other favorite was the chicken soup. Absolutely delicious and well-seasoned I wanted to steal it from my grandma for myself.

Yelp
Was recommended by a local to go to this Mexican restaurant and I must say it was simply amazing. The food was delectable and the service was awesome. The decor was authentic and felt like it had a family environment. My family will defiantly be back again.

Yelp
Been here a few times. Order the whole fried fish which was so good! This time I'm just getting carne asada tacos and crunchy chicken tacos. The bean dip is yummy and the salsa is so good and fresh and before we finished the first salsa they came with another one. The service is tip top, they are very attentive and everyone here is super pleasant and professional. The restaurant is always clean (tables, chairs, floors, windows, etc.) We will be back

Yelp
Cravin' burrito on a Friday night after a long work day. This location is closer to our area and has been bookmarked for a while lol. The interior was both inviting and festive. Although we were not able to make reservations and there were no tables available, we were still able to sit in the bar area. Sports were being played on multiple TVs at the bar during that time. Guacamole | Market price value at $13.99! While the quantity was generous, the taste was just average. It's a bit richer than the usual table-side guacamole at other restaurants. Chips with Salsa and Bean dips | The chips were thinner than the typical chips at Mexican restaurants. With a good crunch and minimal salt, without being too greasy. The dips were delicious. Burrito Mojado, sub fish | Fish is not offered as a protein on the menu. However, the server confirmed that grilled or battered fish can be substituted as the protein! This humongous burrito was wrapped in a soft and stretchy tortilla and doused in salsa verde. The flaky and seasoned fish was cooked perfectly, with a slightly crispy texture. Menu: In addition to tacos and burritos, this restaurant offers so much variety including seafood options. Service: Our server was friendly and accommodating. He's also knowledgeable about each menu item. Parking: Plenty in the parking lot

Yelp
Decided to try out Casa Don Juan on a Friday night for dinner with my husband. The hostess was extremely friendly and great, and we were seated right away. We were given some waters, chips, salsa, and bean dip shortly after being seated. The bean dip was tasty and the chips were standard, but unfortunately I found the salsa pretty bland. It took a while for our server to come greet us and take our order, but thankfully the food came out pretty quickly. I ordered the shrimp fajitas for $25 and was pretty disappointed overall. The shrimp were tiny and unseasoned, and the portion of guacamole was minuscule. Since the shrimp were the small and cheap kind, they overcooked quickly on the hot plate and became rubbery. The peppers and onions were seasoned well so it was disappointing that none of that seasoning ended up on the shrimp. The homemade tortillas did not seem fresh and honestly just didn't taste great. Lastly, the guacamole also didn't seem very fresh or homemade, the texture was a bit odd and it lacked the flavor you would expect from a homemade guacamole, and the portion was just tiny. For $25 this meal was just extremely disappointing. My husband ordered enchiladas and a tamale, and enjoyed it, which is why I'm giving just an average review.

Yelp
Great food and great service. The salsa that comes with the complimentary chips was amazing! I had enchiladas and my husband had a tamale & chile relleno plate. Both were excellent. Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
I went there for lunch during spring break. The ladies that I went with all enjoyed the food and service. Will be going back soon with my family.

Yelp
Okay look Raul the Bartender is a Stud! We have not been in for a while, okay a few months or more! He not only remembered our names but also made our regular drinks before we even had to ask! He also remembers what tortillas the wife enjoys and that I always ask for the Habanero Salsa! Pro Tip sit in the Cantina! Service is great,no kids and it's not as Superbright as the Dining room! Food was, is and probably will always be super fresh and delicious here that's why we love this place!

Alyssa D.

Yelp
This place did not disappoint! We love Mexican food and have never eaten here and have always gone to more expensive places! I loved this restaurant was well priced and tasted amazing! You need to get the appetizer for 2! They also offer it for 4 people and i CANNOT imagine how big it would be!!! We have tons of leftovers. The chips and salsa before the meal were so fresh and amazing. They also offer some to go which is unique! Everyone was super friendly and ALWAYS refilled our drinks in time. Absolutely amazing!

Yelp
We came here for my mother's birthday, they were able to accommodate a party of 9 perfectly. They have great margaritas that they also do in a flight! Our server was really nice and on top of things! Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Found this restaurant on Groupon and the reviews looked pretty good. We ordered Chile Verde and Carne Asada. While waiting for our meal, we were served (4) complementary flour tortillas which, had just been freshly handmade by a lady standing behind a counter in the dining area. It was apparent this was not her first time making tortillas. She was quick and her knowledge of the process was evident. Customers were welcome to walk over and observe her masterful tortilla making skills and ask questions. If there was any doubt as to the freshness of the tortillas that question was certainly answered. The Chile Verde was good but the Carne Asada lacked flavor and seasoning. The meat was a bit thinner than what I'm accustomed to but the portion size was generous. The dining area had a very authentic vibe with streamers, color patterns, and other types of art displayed throughout the restaurant. There's a very large bar with TVs to watch sporting events and other programs while indulging in a beverage. Our server was great and had a wonderful personality. His knowledge of the menu was vast which, was greatly appreciated. The staff was very gracious and made you feel welcomed. Overall, my dining experience was good but not great. With that said, I think I'll give this spot another try sometime in the future.

Yelp
Used to be worth it before the price hikes but now it's just mid Tex-Mex food and over priced, although the service and decor are really nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Love the food here. Authentic Mexican food, practically anything you order will be good. I ordered the tacos today. I got crispy chicken tacos and asada tacos. They both are delicious The service is always great the people are happy and make you feel welcomed. The ambiance makes you feel like you're in Cabo or somewhere in Mexico. It's very festive and party vibes. Overall a great place to stop in if you want some authentic good tasting Mexican food.

Mindy R.

Yelp
Food is delicious and generous. Staff is fun and friendly. I had the shrimp tostada and it was delicious! I'd definitely go back.

Yelp
We ordered a burrito no guacamole and refused to make us another one without. We told him just walked off told him again. He responded do you need a box

Yelp
Service was great! It always is. Great food and drinks. We always have good time here with the family. Shout out to the bartenders!

Yelp
Authentic Mexican food! They make their tortillas in house and have incredible customer service. They also decorate and are festive for the holidays with a nice Christmas Tree. If you celebrate your birthday here, they come out and sing to you :) The food was heavy and delicious, even down to the chips, salsa, and bean dip. The food came out in a nice and timely manner. This restaurant has many choices on where to sit, but I would recommend the middle area as the service was spectacular! :)
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place!!!!! I must confess that Mexican food is my all time favorite! That's why when I find a real good one I want to tell the world to try it! Ok, I have to be honest, I only had the shredded beef tacos but wow were they good! The hard shell tortillas were warm and freshly made, the shredded beef was cooked to perfection and the rice and beans were exactly what I was hoping for. (See pic) We were greeted warmly, and promptly. As I looked around, I said "ahhhh, now this is what I was expecting from a Mexican restaurant!" Our server(s) we're attentive, my margarita was perfect, and my food was delicious. Yup! We'll be back to try some more menu items.
google avatar

Yelp
I had a very disappointing experience tonight. First of all the waitress was too busy promoting the Margaritas because that's what they make money on. My dinner was not very good I ordered the Chile Verde with pork. There a was a mountain of green bell peppers & very little pork meat. The chef has a lot to learn about how make the dish. I can say with certainty I will not be going back.
google avatar

Cliff F.

Yelp
I've been coming to this place for a few years now off and on. The food is always good and the service is excellent. Food: Decent quality food and huge portions. The beans here are really delicious. The salsa is average at best. Service: I've always had outstanding service here with plenty of attention. Price: The price of dishes here has really gone up in price quite substantially. Average combination prices range from $18.00 - $30.00. Bottom line: Decent food, great service and a huge selection of menu items.
google avatar

Erik V.

Yelp
This is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant since moving to the Vegas area. I have dined here many, many times and really never been disappointed by the food or service. This is like home made, old school comfort food for sure. Great burritos, tacos and combo plates. I have to force myself to try new things here because I love my favorite dishes so much! Everyone working here has been great and the service has always been awesome. There is not really much more I can say than, if you love home made Mexican food then you really won't find any better than here. I recommend it to anyone that asks where to go and I look forward to eating here many more times in the future...I just tried Lindo Michoacan for the first time since it is way closer to me then Casa Don Juan but that was a failure of epic proportions (see my review of there) and Casa Don Juan remains the ultimate Mexican food champion for me!

Kristy P.

Yelp
Great service and great food. I was super impressed with my chicken fajitas. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was ok. Nothing great. Took a really long time to refill our waters. Not a big deal but it's Vegas and it's hot and dry. The food was good but again, not great. I basically eat the same thing at Mexican Restaurants and I have had better. The atmosphere was good. Nice place that has the feel of an older mom and pop style place. My main complaint was with the prices and the rules. They charge for extra chips even if you eat a full meal. What kind of Mexican restaurant charges for extra chips??? We paid for extra chips but did not get extra salsa. There was also a mandatory 18% tip added to the bill for parties of 4 or more. Really? I don't like being forced to give a certain tip unless we are in a large group. I almost always give 20% anyway but it needs to be my choice not forced on me. I would probably eat here again. Great location and pretty centrally located and easy to meet out of town guests just be prepared for the annoying extra charges.

Yelp
Food was incredible. Enjoyed ambiance along with photo opportunity! My photographer was great and pictures came out great!
google avatar

Yelp
This place had the best authentic food (and that's hard for me to say cause I love my moms cooking! lol) but my carne asada was delicious and I couldn't stop helping myself to my aunts camaroens a La Diabla (spicy shrimp) plus this place had the best jamaica I've ever had! Very cute restaurant, great service and great prices

Yelp
Great tacos, vibes, drinks, and service. We love coming here. Currently craving it now! A great value!
google avatar

Yelp
We have been here many times but tonight was terrible. We wet blatantly ignored by our server. As much as we like the food, we won't be back.
google avatar

Sheila M.

Yelp
It was very busy but the service was very good . Disappointed in the variety of happy hour appetizers. The quesadillas were ok but it just looked like flour tortillas with some cheese melted and a little green chile .legit is what they should be but the presentation was much to be desired. I have come on other occasions and it's been ok food with high prices.
google avatar

Tyra C.

Yelp
Martha was a spectacular waitress, efficient, helpful with suggestions, just an all around great waitress. The food was really good, great guacamole, beans, rice, enchiladas. A little too much masa in the tamale. Green sauce is AMAZING!!!!

Moises C.

Yelp
Excelente servicio. La muchacha que toma fotos muy amable definitivamente regresaré. Y la comida no se diga deliciosa
google avatar

Yelp
The colors, ambiance and service here are mood lifting. The menu includes a good selection of the Mexican food classics plus soups, and homemade tortillas which are always the best. .

Yelp
I miss going there, the service is amazing, they open so later I love a big breakfast and opening at 11:00 am is just too late for that big breakfast, and half the day is already gone hopefully the hours will change back to opening early

Yelp
Generous serving of rice, beans, chips, salsa, and refried beans. Yum! Came with a group of 7 towards the latter part of the restaurant hours, and we enjoyed good service and delicious food. I had a beef enchilada and chicken taco with a side of beans and rice, with a side of guac. Definitely enough to eat and for leftovers! The pictured side guac was $5 or so, just so you know in case you wanted to splurge. Sometimes that can be a lot, which I understand. (I admit, I wasn't paying, so I went for the extra guac!) Overall, lots of space, lots of parking. Lots of full bellies.
