The 9 Best Restaurants & Bars In Los Alamos

"At any point in the afternoon, the most buzzed people in Los Alamos are at Casa Dumetz. The female-owned tasting room does six-glass flights for $40 and pours are generous. Their lineup includes an earthy pinot noir, a bright rose, and our all-time favorite, their Feminist Party, a light Grenache-Syrah blend that we always buy several bottles of to take home. If you need a little break from wine o’clock, head next door to their sister business, Babi’s Beer Emporium, where you’ll find local IPAs and Indonesian food from Sama Sama on the patio." - brant cox

I don’t even know where to start… We had an absolute blast! The wines are to die for! So much attention to detail - the interior, the decor, the wines - from the superb taste to the witty labels. The staff was well trained and made our stay as pleasant as we could have wishes for. What a wonderful escape and such a gem. 🥰🥰🥰

Google
Unique winery. Wines not normally produced. Worked in a winery for 12 years. Went to MANY wineries. I believe the wines produced there are outstanding!

Google
The wine here is fantastic. Many different types of wine to choose from to enjoy in a relaxed atmosphere without the wine snobbery. If someone in your party isn’t a fan of wine there is plenty of microbrews next door. My wife and I have been a few different times and have been impressed with how friendly the owner is and her staff. The wine, their attitude and the tacos will keep us coming back.

Google
No empathy or compassion. We had been driving for about five hours when we decided to stop in Los Alamos at about 1;45 pm on a Monday for a snack. We were looking for Bob’s Bakery but our friend got confused and we ended up at Clementine Carter in error. Once we figured out where we really wanted to be, I politely asked if it would be ok if I used the bathroom since it had been five hours and was a bit of an urgency. She said only if I bought something. I seriously couldn’t even think straight enough to even respond. There was one table occupied.. We went down the street to Bob’s where I was able to go straight into the bathroom with no questions. Clementine Carter could stand to show people a little compassion.

Don’t skip this stop in Los Alamos. Not only is the wine fabulous and approachable- but the owner makes this place one of a kind. Sonja is so kind and engaging. You always get an extra pour and a taste of something new. We wandered in in 2020 and have been members ever since.

Absolutely Amazing Wines! Love their Clementine Carter Wines! Would absolutely recommend them!

Google
Yummy! Friendly staff, lively wine flights, lots of Grenache variations. Women owned/led/forward org. Charming indoors and outdoors patio.

Google
Clementine was highly recommended by a trusted wine pourer and unfortunately, a complete disappointment. The wines were overpriced and the tasting menu, ostentatious and dramatized. Our server only poured a few of the wines listed and when I asked to try the others listed, he was rude and dismissive. I can think of many other things I’d want to spend $40 on - clementine tasting- definitely NOT!!

Yelp
Excellent wine and friendly staff. Winery is now called Clementine Carter. We met the owner, Sonja. Their Pinot and Grenache in particular were excellent. We did the tastings but ran out of time to actually come back and buy wine. Will be back next time. Los Alamos is such a cool and still very much undiscovered "frontier" town...

Yelp
Excellent local wine bar in Los Alamos, Ca. Love that this place is run and owned by women, and love what they have created! Do yourself a favor and make sure to read the each of the wine descriptions... so fun and whimsical, just like this place. Great spot to kick up your feet and relax with a book on a sunny afternoon.

Yelp
Go. Like, don't walk, run. Now. Just go. Everything about this winery is perfect. While we were there, they played Bryson Tiller, Alicia Keys, Tory Lanez and I can't even remember what else. My husband and I got separate flights and loved came back for glasses afterward. They close at 7 so get your shit in gear on time but oh my god just go. Angela (sp?) who used to be a math professor and Alina (also sp?) who is just generally awesome are a great time and know just SO much. Gave us great recs for dinner and more drinking. Go. Go now. Thank me later.

Yelp
This wine tasting room offers excellent service and the pop-up dim sama food was awesome. The staff are knowledgeable and attentive, offering helpful suggestions on wines to try. We enjoyed their rose and cider! The crispy fried chicken and pork belly bao buns were highlights. Overall, a great experience for anyone looking for a unique wine tasting experience with great food although I'm unsure of how often they serve food.

Yelp
The most honest review of Casa Dumetz begins with a warning to AVOID this place at all costs. While all advertising would suggest this is a friendly, female-focused winery, all staff members our group encountered seemed to be the exact opposite. Our group of 5 all ordered $30 wine tastings where we were not allowed to actually select the wines to taste. When I asked what wines would be included, the server identified several on the menu and unfortunately only half of these ended up being included in the final tasting. As our group began to enjoy our tasting, the staff unexpectedly took our heater away to warm a 2 top table without ever asking our group if we still wanted the heater (we did, it was 50 degrees out). One person in our group brought out a leftover bite of baguette from a previous stop in town and was QUICKLY alerted by the owner with the wag of a finger and note that "they sell food there and she can't bite her own food." The owner waited until my friend put her small bite in her purse before walking away. When checking out, the server told us we'd need to pay via one card only (fine) and proceeded to watch closely as my friend chose her gratuity option (rude). Although we selected a nice 20% tip on the screen prompt, the actual math shook out to a 24% tip without us ever agreeing to it. Short story: - Too expensive - Rude - Performative, white-centric feminism - Not worth visiting when there are so many other great options close by

Yelp
I have been here a few times , always amazing . The location , employees , wine & food always a great experience. Finally joined the wine club ; literally it's the best club on the central coast .Amazing variety of wines something for everyone's tastes. One of the best perks of the wine club has to be the vineyard tour w/ the owner Sonja . Scenic , educational & just a overall amazing experience. She is highly knowledgeable about every aspect of the business. The employees are top notch ; Stacey & Lupetia make every visit special . If you aren't local Stacey is a fantastic resource on all of the hot spots of the central coast . The food here is not your basic tasting room nibbles. If you have had enough of the adult lunchables most tasting rooms offer . Come here for lunch . Korean food ; the best you will find in the central coast ! The wings & mushrooms salad are a must . I highly recommend spending the day here .

Yelp
Never have I went to a wine tasting that serves dim sum instead of the usuals; strawberries, bruschetta, cheese and crackers, etc. Maybe they making it Asian friendly ‍ ‍ coming from an Asian person myself, this is a weird combination. A friend of ours does not like dry wines, prefers sweet (dessert) wines. The restaurant does not have any sweet wines for my friend so they given her apple cider. She took one sip and passed on all the wine tasting, but still stays and keep us company. When we receive the bill I see they charged my friend for her wine tasting. I let the waitress know my friend just took a sip of the apple cider and passed on it and the wine tasting. The waitress informs us my friend will still be charge, even if she took one sip... one sip of apple cider! Really, apple cider?! How unbelievable! This is ridiculous!

Yelp
Delightful spot on main drag in Los Alamos aka Babi's Beer. Cheerful outdoor seating. Excellent small plates complement local wines and a wine cider. Spicy Southeast Asian influence in the kitchen. Whether you're seeking out small town antiquing or just need a break from the 101, a spot worth seeking out.

Yelp
We stopped here for some wine tasting while waiting for our table at Full of Life. How cute is the tasting flight? The wines were quite good, my favorite being the Mourvedre which I left with a bottle of. Really friendly service and a cute outdoor patio to boot.
google avatar

Alysha T.

Yelp
Loved this adorable spot. Two women were working the tasting room when we stopped in for a glass. They let us try at least 4 wines before deciding on an apple rose, a delicious glass and a beautiful space. Wish we'd had more time to spend there.

Ruth C.

Yelp
We had Angela as our host today and she was awesome!!! The wine was great, but her kindness through our tasting made the experience even better!! We bought wine to go and will be back!

Yelp
Just visited Casa Dumetz. Loved the food and wine but left with a bad taste in our mouths. We ordered 3 flights of wine ($30 a flight for less than 1 bottle worth of wine.)....the samples were way, way less than generous. Not enough to even get a decent taste of the wines. The food was great, We had the KFC (Koren fried cauliflower) So damn good! and the beef egg rolls. Here's the real downer. We were a party of 4 and were automatically charged for tip when the menu clearly states gratuity added for parties of 6 or more. We purchased 6 bottles of wine. The tip was calculated on not only the food and flights but the purchase of bottles not even opened. So wrong. Been visiting Los Alamos since 2005. It has turned into a cold and heartless town. You can't even find a place that serves charcuterie with wine.. Apparently every place there thinks they share Bell Farms Michelin star. There won't be a next time. Super disappointed. Off to Los Olivos from now on. The photos are a split bill. $50+ automatic tip that shouldn't have been more than $20. Ridiculous.

Yelp
I unfortunately have to write a negative review based on the customer service alone. I am honestly really taken aback on how rude and belittling the owner was when speaking to my husband and I. On a person to person level, I have never walked away from an interaction feeling so small and shamed. I understand there are rules with every establishment and I will gladly accept when we are in the wrong (bringing outside food in). However, there is a way to express the restaurant policies without being degrading. Please do better.

Yelp
Must go. This hidden gem is absolutely delicious. The casual outdoor dining during COVID is a great break. The wine flight is so unique. The food is amazing. We wanted to order everything. Literally everything. The wine paired beautifully with the food too. The staff were friendly and attentive. Great pit stop on in between wine tastings. Must order: pickled wood eat mushroom salad. Smoked duck egg rolls (dip it in the shumai soy sauce) Pork and shrimp shumai Mushroom, tofu, chard steamed bun Shanghai pork steamed bun They also offer a beer flight tasting.

Yelp
Took a weekday break from our daily routine and spent the night at SkyView Motel. Upon arrival, we decided to get a quick tasting so we walked in to Casa Dumetz. Kristen welcomed us with the most genuine smile and made the tasting so special (considering we were the only ones there on a dusty Tuesday high-noon while vendors were bringing in merchandise) She was very knowledgeable and took the time to share the history of the owner (: Great decor, awesome craft beer selection and the wine is to die for! Thank you for everything! We will be back for sure

Rachel K.

Yelp
Was really hoping to love this women-owned tasting room with its feminist edge. Our experience was strange. When we walked in we asked to sit near the back of the patio where there were less people but as a party of two (women) we were told we couldn't only sit at a table for two. We were seated uncomfortably close to another table - much closer than I have sat to a stranger in over a year. The next two groups of two who walked in were seated at large tables with no request. After that we asked to move and were allowed to move to a larger table in the back. We asked for two tastings. Our waiter brought wines for us (2 whites and 4 reds) without asking anything about our preferences. We heard other groups being asked about their wine preferences so we were somewhat turned off by this. The wines were good but the pours were quite small and the tastings were $30 each. We had one of each of their bao buns which were very good, though the mushroom bao was too spicy for me. This place has a funky feel and a lot of potential, but based on our experience I wouldn't be excited to go back.

Yelp
We loved stopping in here for wine tasting. This is not a vineyard and not a winery. Just a tasting room, sharing space with a beer tasting room next door and very comfortable patio. These three areas are fun and funky and they do a lovely job giving the history of the wines. Delicious and plentiful pours, we may have had 7 or 8 tasted for the $15 fee and we bought a total of 8 bottles between the 6 of us. Terrific Grenache here.
google avatar

Yelp
I came today for the first time after receiving a tasting offer from Rideau Winery and it was a great discovery! We have been to Solvang for so many years and never went to Los Alamos, so I was thrilled to discover a new spot! The winery is downtown is a very bright & welcoming location, the staff was super friendly and helpful. The wine tasting was great and the hostess was very attentive, and trying to please us as much as she could with trying many wines. I also loved the adjacent tacos place, which were very tasty & delicious. A must try if you are in the area!!
google avatar

Danielle G.

Yelp
I really wanted to enjoy this place more. The wine was okay, and I was confused by the system. They said you can pick your wines, then they kept pouring random things. Overall, so so experience. I mildly enjoyed one red, and that's all. The employees and owner are nice, but you don't get the attention you receive in some other rooms.
google avatar

Sluggo S.

Yelp
I should have paid attention to the "10 places to avoid while visiting Los Alamos" article. I went at prime time Sunday early afternoon, right when I expected there would be attentive service that a small business would surely strive for. I checked in at the patio kiosk and was promptly seated. About half of the tables were empty. Then I sat for 15 minutes, not exaggerating, while 3 different staff ladies walked around, never making eye contact and not offering any service. During this time, in between doing nothing, they gathered at the little kiosk and starting writing on their wrists with little felt pens in different colors. Finally staff lady 4 and apparent designated server came to my table and I finally got to sample some wine from the dis-jointed wine list. I particularly enjoyed the 2019 No Service Grenache. This is my second recent visit here. Both times (on a weekend) the legendary owner and top feminist Sonja was "off" and not to be found. Am I going back? Never.
google avatar

Kristin D.

Yelp
Sonja was VERY kind to us when we got married and our photographer wanted to shoot us in her storefront entrance. She even went out of her way to find a key to take a lock off her door so it wasn't in the photos. I do regret not purchasing a bottle of vino and my apologies as I had a lot on my mind that weekend. :) We will be back though to order up once we are back Stateside. Thank you Sonja!!! xo. The daRoza's

Yelp
Great quaint local spot for wine, beer and excellent small plates. Nice patio. If you want to stay near by, book ahead. There are only two hotels in town. Place is very much like you expect from sideways the movie: beautiful, tasty, pricey, awesome

D L H.

Yelp
Girl crushin! On the owner(Sonia) for her love of her wines. On the wines!!! and the dim sum. Cheers and thank you to all the love you're putting out there, Casa Dumetz!
google avatar

Dave W.

Yelp
We were bummed about our last wine tasting experience here. 20 bucks for four tiny pours of wine that seems to have declined in quality over the last few years. We mentioned that we were disappointed to the server and she laughed and seemed not to care. This is the only tasting room in Los Alamos that I would not recommend.
google avatar

Kalin M.

Yelp
My husband and I recently got married up in the Santa Ynez Valley and after years of visiting Sonja and Los Alamos we wanted to share our special weekend with her at Casa Dumetz. We had our 'welcome party' on Friday night with Sonja and Vallefresh and it was honestly the best night of my life (of course besides the wedding!). Sonja and her team were such great hosts, ensuring all of our guests were happy, had wine in their cups and the rose was chilled. She was so flexible with what we wanted to do for the evening and was able to accommodate any of our requests. She helped us with the wine selection that would complement the tacos, as well as stay within our price range and we couldn't have been happier. I mean I now LOVE rose because of this woman! I have admired Sonja on a professional level since the first day I met her, and now I am in complete awe of how talented she is expanding beyond her wines. We are Casa Dumetz wine club members and will be forever her #1 fans. Sonja, we love you and thank you so much for everything you do!
google avatar

Francesca B.

Yelp
Omg omg omg! Most awesome time ever! The ladies here are so kind and so sweet. They were all down to earth and super chill. It was not one of those pretentious wine tasting bars. You can tell they were all happy to work here. If you purchase three bottles, you get a free wine tasting and they are quite liberal when serving the wine!! Go go go!
google avatar

Katy C.

Yelp
Casa Dumetz is great for an afternoon wine and snack break. I paired my wine with couple of the shrimp and spinach tacos. They were really fresh and the presentation was beautiful. Casa Dumetz Wine was really enjoyable and features a female winemaker, Sonja Magdevski. The tasting room was very down to earth, friendly, and welcoming. We had a fantastic experience with Andrea. I actually bought a bottle of Syrah, which I usually don't care for.
google avatar

Rich S.

Yelp
Fun and friendly place, and the wines are pretty darn good! PROS: Bright and airy tasting room; laid back and comfortable; service is very friendly; the wines are excellent.. We purchased a bottle each of the Gewurztraminer and Roussanne -- superb flavors. CONS . . . The tasting room manager, Chloe, was so friendly and engaging. She is obviously proud of the business. Definitely worth the stop if you are wine tasting along the 101! Cheers! RS

Brian S.

Yelp
Incredibly satisfying. Great wine and beer selection (the blood orange IPA is bomb dot com; my wife says that's not a saying anymore). Excellent service. Then the dim sum is randomly amazing; on par with some of my favorite dim sum restaurants. 5 stars. Lock it up.
google avatar

Jazzy P.

Yelp
Delightful, playful and the winemaker pours sometimes! The Syrah is so good and the atmosphere so relaxed that it's a better bet then a glass at a local restaurant. Sonja is fun and talkative- you may even catch some live music!
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
It's a fabulous tasting. The staff is great as well, they are knowledgeable and pleasant. I met the wine maker Sonja as well! is what you will leave with and hopefully some wine
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Just had another enjoyable visit to the tasting room this weekend. We met the wine maker and she's completely personable and sweet. More importantly, her wine is amazing. The space is dog and teenager friendly, as well as a fun place to relax into the evening. So glad we joined the wine club.
google avatar

Shannon B.

Yelp
Casa Dumetz is a really great place in general. The wine is DELICIOUS, the atmosphere is great, and the employees have always been super cool and not pretentious. I also love supporting a local business owned by a truly awesome and talented woman, Sonya. If she has time, she will always stop and talk to you, check in to make sure you're having a good time, and have a genuine conversation with you. Casa Dumetz also has some really neat speakers that come during the evening and give talks on a range of topics, from the harvesting of ancient grains, to the power of intuition. Check it out!
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
I enjoyed the wines but I have three critiques that I think are important and would help the business. 1. There is no clear tasting sheet with cost and what you're tasting. Very confusing. 2. $25 for a tasting in Los Alamos for 5 tastings is too high. 3. Santa Barbara passport still advertises 20% off on a purchase which you will not accept. It is not up to the customer to deal with this. I was going to buy a bottle (at least) which meant maybe a cost of $6 for you. You said no. So now you get a poor rating and no purchase. Bad business decision. I actually liked the wines but don't want to go back because of this decision.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Casa Dumetz is one of my favorite stops in the greater Santa Ynez Valley area. Sonja (the winemaker) is an amazing host (along with her staff) on top of making delicious wines. Within the last year, Sonja made a "flight" of five Granaches, each sourced from a different vineyard. It was amazing to taste the character of each of those vineyards come out through the wines that Sonja created. Needless to say, I got all five! Lastly, Casa Dumetz hosts a series of speakers on Friday nights. It's a great way to have a glass of wine and listen to some very good talks. I'm really looking forward towards this years wine releases. Only getting better and will be back to visit every time we come up to Los Alamos (plus great food in that town).
google avatar

Sheila C.

Yelp
Delicious wines, beautiful tasting room with such special pretty details. I joined the wine club on my second time back to Casa Dumetz and so happy I did. When we were there we were able to have amazing tacos and a glass of wine to pair. Perfect day. The sweetest part of my review is today a couple months later I received a hand written note from the wine maker thanking me for joining, hopes to see us on the next visit as she was getting married that day and missed us. Also wished us a happy holiday season. Such a sweet note and personal touch that is priceless. :)
google avatar

Beth S.

Yelp
Probably our favorite tasting from our trip to Los Alamos. The staff who helped us was super helpful and friendly, and the wine was all delish!

Niki B.

Yelp
Great place the wine and food are both delicious. The food is so fresh and the flavors are so yummy, I can't wait to go back!

Emily V.

Yelp
I've done many a wine tasting since I moved to California in 2016. This winery, while not in my absolute favorites, was a fun and unique experience! Two reasons: The slightly industrial feel of the tasting room and casual vibe, and the variety of things offered. Specifically I'm thinking of the wine-cider hybrids, which I've never seen before and were quite tasty! I will say, there's a lot of heavy, intense red wines on the current menu; I prefer whites and lighter, sweeter reds, so that may be part of my 4-star reaction. Also, this winery makes small batches, so this is NOT the place to go for moderately priced wines. But if you're a fan of reds, and not too concerned with price, this is the place for you. Even if you're more like me (prefers light wines and classifies $25 bottles as a luxury, LOL), it's absolutely still worth a drop-in. Also check out the taco place right next door while you're there!

Yelp
Great wines and awesome location. We like to come here before having dinner at Full of Life Flatbread.

Jim B.

Yelp
Great wines and great service. The Grenache Blanc and Feminist Party GSM stood out for me.

Yelp
The menu is interesting. They offer selections that are limited, making it a must to grab a bottle before the selection is sold out. However, they offer standard choices that are favorite with their clientele. Although, it got kind of awkward tonight between the employees. There was an awesome employee offering tastings and really personable. However, she basically "got told" in front of the customers that she had to go home, the owner only wanted one employee on staff, etc. How embarrassing and awkward for the customers. What was really odd is that the employee who was really stellar left. While the remaining customers were stuck with the grumpy employee who wasn't as friendly and personable. I will say this though... the business closed at 7. And, they were kind to remain open after 7.
google avatar

Matthew B.

Yelp
I came here with my girlfriend on a Sunday. The tasting room is fresh, clean, and has plenty of space. The place mats are designed as maps of the area which I thought was very captivating and eye catching. Both servers were very friendly, offered great conversation, and gave good recommendations of other wineries to check out in the area. The wine was decent; my favorite was the Pinot (sorry - can't remember the specific vintage) which is common for the area. Overall, it was a great experience and I wouldn't mind coming back.
google avatar

Lori S.

Yelp
Super cute tasting room, the wines are excellent, and Sonja is adorable. We've been here a few times and it is always a pleasure!
google avatar

leslie k.

Yelp
We stopped in because of the great yelp reviews. Super cute interior and decor. Sadly I didn't love any of the wines, and it was a little loud and impersonal in there. Not a terrible experience by any means, just not as great as the others I've had in the area.
google avatar

April H.

Yelp
Loved Casa Dumetz! The tasting room is very nice and welcoming and have an open and friendly feeling. The owner was in and very kind but we were helped by Chris and thought he was the best. He was probably the funnest, most knowledgeable and helpful person we talked to on our wine weekend. He gave us a bunch of winery recommendations based on our favorite type of wines and really seemed to know his stuff. We tried all of the wines Casa Dumetz had open that day and every single one was great. If we find ourselves in the Los Alamos area again we will be back for sure.
google avatar

Betty M.

Yelp
Saw Sonja again recently at Casa Dumetz. She is going strong. Her Friday night speaker's/musician's events are festive fun affairs. It is a happy place. I am excited for her move to a bigger space. Can't wait to visit her there. Her wine continues to delight those who venture in. So much so that she sells out early. I recommend joining her club if you want to get that special bottle.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
My wife Cassandra nearly collapsed when we walked in the tasting room front door and saw Emilio Estevez after I promised her there was no way he would be there. He was cool, as was Sonja the winemaker. We tasted nothing on the spot, but bought 7 bottles, and some home made ajvar, a red pepper relish (amazing). We just arrived in LA, and burned a bottle of Tierra Alta Vineyard, 2012 Grenache, and it's pretty damn good. An oceanic, floral, ripe red plum deliciousness that is very memorable. Unique, dangerously drinkable. Right on. Great work Sonja.
