Best Restaurants in Burien, Washington | Eater Seattle

"Casa Durango is about as close as it gets to authentic Mexican cuisine in Burien. There is not one bad item on the menu. In fact, get ready to have a hard time ordering, as Casa Durango is a restaurant with too many excellent options. Even better, the prices are fair, especially for the quality of the food. This place makes a big impression, and so do the portions, so bring your appetite." - Laura LeMoon

This place is absolutely amazing! The food was delicious and the fried ice cream desert was one of the best I have ever had. Highly recommend going to this hidden gem.

William Garnsey

Google
A nice cozy place. The food is fine, non-exceptional but it's a very nice place to Enjoy a meal. The service was fine. Nothing outstanding but a pleasant meal at a decent value.

My wife and I were stranded by some airline shenanigans and wound up in this charming spot by happenstance while we waited for our flight. The staff took care of us and were as kind and welcoming as could be. We were served quickly and the food was plentiful and delicious. Despite being ravenous, neither of us were able to finish our meals.

We had been to this restaurant two years ago, on our trip to Seattle. We were so impressed by the food, service, and simple homely space, that we looked up our photos for its name on our current visit to Seattle to find it again. Did a take out this time. Was good for sure! It is located near the airport at Burien. If you are in the area, looking for a Mexican restaurant, this is the one!

Google
This is our new favorite Mexican restaurant! It's easy to miss as you drive by the strip mall, but the inside is clean and the atmosphere friendly. We enjoyed the carne asada and picture-perfect flan for dessert.

David Mapes

Google
Authentic Mexican food, friendly attentive staff, quick service. Definitely will be coming back

Google
I came here after reading the reviews. My server, Cindy, was prompt in her service. The food here is DELICIOUS. I know I ordered more than I could eat in one sitting, but I definitely planned on taking some back to my hotel. I'm from Michigan; I was gonna go to IHOP, but I am SO glad I chose here.

Google
I will never return. Small portions, I couldn't believe the tacos, $12. Doesn't come with chips and salsa. I had to pay for it, smallest container is $8. Total rip-off! Everything was overpriced. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Yelp
We have eaten here many times and the food is consistently good. We always order the house margarita and they are big and tasty. I had fajita burrito and my only regret was that the chicken was probably fine instead of the extra cost steak. I could only eat half and brought the rest home in a box. My wife had the chillies relleneos and was very satisfied. The service is always fast and efficient. The taco chips and salsa are very good. The chips were warm and crisp and the salsa was thick and spicy.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came back again last week for a casual dinner, and the EL POLLO EN MOLE was absolutely fantastic (+$15.99)! Paired with corn tortillas, it was the perfect Taco Tuesday meal. The mole sauce was the perfect balance of sweet and savory, rich in spices, and was relatively mild. Also, we got a HORCHATA (+$3.50) which comes with 1 free refill- absolute score for $1.25 per drink! It was a just a tad sweet for my liking, but was great once the ice melted some and had strong notes of cinnamon and honey as any good horchata should. Service was fantastic once again and our waitress came by to check on us several times. Some of the booths could use some repairs, but the bathrooms and restaurant are clean. Overall: 5/5 for food, 5/5 for service, 4/5 for atmosphere

Yelp
Ordered a veggie burrito -- it was huge, and the veggies inside were fresh and crispy. It came with chips and great tasting salsa. A lovely little gem tucked into a strip mall in 1st Ave between Normandy Park and Burien. Will definitely go back!

Yelp
The food here is great! The service is fast. The ambiance is pretty typical for a Mexican restaurant! We go out of our way to go here since the food is so good.

Yelp
Delicious food with wonderful service! Been dining here for years. A local gem! Excellent prices too!

Yelp
This place is really good :) the food is great the place is quaint but most of all the service is wonderful and they are so nice there! I think the prices for what you get are great:) I'm so happy to have found this place !

Polly D.

Yelp
Love the food and customer service! Fast service and the ambience is great! This is our "go to" restaurant!

Yelp
Parents enjoy coming here for dinner often and the service is always very welcoming. I got the shredded beef plate (Tinga) last time and it was good. It's a good casual spot to go grab quick dinner and enjoy some Mexican food.

Yelp
Burien has such good Mexican restaurants and this is one of them! Steve and I swung by here when we were waiting for a few other businesses to open in the area. And we weren't disappointed in the slightest. Our lunch was very good! We had the chicken taquitos something I often overlook on a Mexican restaurant menu but always enjoy them when I have them and these were great! We also had the Mole Enchiladas from the combination menu. The mole was done just right! It was a little bit spicy and sweet and balanced each other well. Sometimes I feel mole can be too sweet depending where you go but there was no such problem here with the version here! Good place and one I'd recommend and return back to!

Yelp
Food is fantastic and the service is outstanding! Family-owned, very friendly. The Margarita "bowl" is delicious and well worth the price.

Yelp
Small indoor seating area. Even so we were seated immediately. Service was just so-so. For the restaurant being so small and not that busy we waited quite a bit. We didn't see our waitress that often and the waitress who seated us and got our drinks passed by multiple times and looked at our table but never got us refills. When they finally stopped I was told that they were out of what I was originally drinking. So I took Coke in place of Dr. Pepper. The salsa was very spicy which was probably the best part of everything. I had the enchiladas de la crema, chicken. The cream sauce had good flavor but the chicken wasn't seasoned at all and was dry. My husband had the carne asada which also had good flavor but was very fatty. Closest thing we've found Tex-Mex so far though in Washington.

Yelp
The people are so personable! And the food is authentic and so so good. If I ever need a vegan meal.. she knows just what to make and it's always a win/win solution! Cynthia is great!

Yelp
My review is technically 3.5 stars. I would have been 4.5 stars BUT were a bit disppointed when we arrived early and was told even though their drink menu AND website states happy hour before 6pm (we arrived at 415pm)...to ignore the happy hour part of the drink menu. The chips and salsa were a nice distraction ;) the salsa like some posted is on the hotter side, but we enjoyed it. We also asked for a side of refried beans. We ordered the carne asada y combinacion with the chile relleno. Comes with rice and beans, lettuce and pico de gallo. We got flour tortillas with it too. BIG meal and It was super tasty. We did order the BLACKBERRY margarita per the waitresses suggestion. It was TASTY too!!! There are a lot of good mexican in the PNW. If im in the area I may come back.

Yelp
We go eat at Casa Durango very often and love all the dishes especially they are so willing to make special dish per request that the kids want, this is so important for family with young kids.

Yelp
I really hate to do this. I really do. Look at the date on my review then ignore my review after a few weeks. However, for now, avoid the place. I just had dinner from them on Sunday, Aug 8th, 2021 and ended up sick as a dog. Still sick while I write this review. Some sort of food poisoning, whether it's salmonella from dairy, e.coli in the ground beef or spoiled food, I don't know but it's bad. I'm hoping it's just turned ingredients as I'm not getting the body aches and chills associated with salmonella or E. coli. I'd go to the doctor but I can't last that long away from a bathroom right now. I do know I'm ill as I'm suddenly sleeping excessively as my body tries to recover. Just avoid them for now. Maybe it's due to the pandemic or maybe it's an employee with poor hygiene, but I hate to think this some new normal for them since I love this place. FYI I ordered the Durango Burrito. My friends had a fajita plate and a beef fajita burrito and all of us are sick. If it were just me, I'd chalk it up to having a sensitive stomach but the fact that we're all sick makes me have to speak up. Instead of bombing the place with bad reviews, we all agreed I would leave a single review.

Yelp
Rice has just the right amount of moist and fluffy. Beans had just the right spattering of cheese. I ordered the veggie chimichanga and that's always a bit of a compromise because I don't REALLY want broccoli and whatnot in my chimichanga but as a vegetarian that is my option and it was good. My partner ordered the carne asada. It did not come with any beans or rice so I don't know if that was a mistake or not - and the meat seemed a bit tough - however, my partner enjoyed it. The only sort of odd thing was the guacamole which was not cut up properly and amounted to two huge chunks of avocado. Service was fast and the delivery order was packaged neatly. The churros were delish - love that they added some whipped cream. And love that we could order a giant Mexican Coca-Cola. Will order again.

Yelp
One of my top favs for Mexican restaurant to go to. Very welcoming here. Catering is really good here. Been here a bunch. Only thing they a lil pricey for things. But definitely go it's good.

Chris D.

Yelp
this is the worst agua chiles I've tried yaks It looks like they grabbed a bunch of shrimps and poured avocado taco sauce on top of the shrimps, the the shrimps wasn't even marinated with limes, & agua chiles never come with tomatoes , chicken mole & chicken fajitas Was also the worst!! I had ever tried , there's nothing authentic about this restaurant. I wouldn't recommend it!!

Yelp
Great hole-in-the-wall Mexican spot. My family and I came for dinner (they had been before), and while there's nothing special about the interior and decor, the food was awesome. It's a fairly small restaurant but the service is great; our server was really nice, and the place is probably family-owned. You get the standard chips and salsa as an appetizer, and the salsa is definitely home made, fresh, and has a little bit of bite. I got a spicy garlic shrimp dish with mushrooms that had beans and rice on the side. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the plate was covered in delicious soft mushrooms and a spicy sauce. It might be a bit too much garlic for some, but I really liked it and ate all of it. They have a couple of TVs if you want to watch some soccer or sports as well. Prices are super reasonable, and it's a great place to get some tasty Mexican food.

Heather B.

Yelp
This place deserves so much more attention. Their food is delicious, service is very friendly, portions are generous, menu selection is good, and their prices are very reasonable. Basically, it's like getting Azteca food at Taqueria El Rinconsito prices. Their horchata is delicious, and their salsa is HOT but addictive. Now, I'm a wuss, but I can eat most place's salsa. However, here, it's really burning! That said, it is delicious and I can't stop eating it! Even the beans and Spanish rice are great. Tonight we had the Carne Asada y Camarones and I forget the name of the other dish but it was steak in a red sauce with mushrooms and onions. Both are delicious. The mushrooms are delicious. Try it.

Yelp
Beware - after eating at this restaurant my debit card was used by unauthorized persons. Ate here on Tuesaday at 7:30 PM. Friday morning 8:00 AM my card services called to alert me to several unusual transactions. Food was OK but cash maybe the best payment method!
google avatar

Ash S.

Yelp
Hands down some of the best Mexican food served by the kindest people in Burien! We love coming to Casa Durango! They always put their customers first. Their prices are super reasonable for large portions and they are still steadfast and committed to providing amazing food to our community during the COVID lock down. Try their camarones!!! And enchiladas de mole! Ask got the super spicy habanero salsa on the side IF YOU DARE!

Armando G.

Yelp
Lady in front was nice ....NASTY food bread was so sogey you couldn't even pick up the torta meat was undercooked and tasteless cook could care less he was just sitting in the lobby on his phone he rushed dis my order in 5 minutes like it was fastfood then rushed out and sat right back down .......30$ for two in edible tortas just threw them away waste of time and money .

Yelp
I moved to burien 2 years ago and found this lil gem just blocks from our apt. We order takeout quite often and have never had a bad experience!
google avatar

Amanda J.

Yelp
The food here is great. Spicy salsa, attentive staff (Gabriella makes the experience). Highly recommend

Benjamin J.

Yelp
Drove out of my way to use an Entertainment Book (entertainment.com) digital coupon here. Sign in the window says they're not accepting these. OK, but they entered into a contract where they promised to accept... and customers drove over expecting that promise to be honored. What a shame. At least they had the good sense to put the sign up in the window. Imagine if they surprised diners at the end of a meal by saying "no, we won't honor that coupon." So 2 stars rather than 1.

Yelp
There we were. Mad at our bank, just had a hospitalization, in our pajamas, and needing a bite. We were going to order in a further away Mexican place (because I was just jonesing hard for some rice and beans) but Casa Durango was on Uber Eats. My fellow man. Let me explain this experience. We ordered a couple of carne Asada tacos, a tostada combo, and enchiladas with my precious rice and beans. We couldn't even take the 11.9 seconds to put things on real plates. The carne asada tacos disappeared into our hungry faces without hardly a word beyond all the MMMM's and OH MAN's we muttered between bites. Simply put, this place has the most flavorful, well-portioned, juicy yet sturdy, overall gotdang DELICIOUS Mexican food you've ever had. You'll crave it when it's gone. Believe me.

Yelp
Poor service and poor margaritas. I didn't get past the chips. I ordered a Ruby Margarita. The server seemed confused and said they only had a few fruit margaritas. I asked about a regular and she said they had it. I then pointed to the margarita with Cointreau and agave. She left. A little while later I received a glass of lime juice from a different employee. I guess it was supposed to be a margarita. It was soooo sour I couldn't stop puckering. I mentioned to the server it was sour and she said "well that's what you ordered." No attempt to make it right or verifying that I did order a drink with agave and Cointreau, neither of which is sour. I asked for my check. Sat for 5-10 minutes and then walked up to the front desk. They charged me $12. I asked if I was getting charged for something I didn't drink and was told? "Yes you ordered it!" I said but I wasn't happy. I just got a shrug. I wanted to like this place but the lack of customer service was a turnoff. I very rarely walk out on a restaurant but this one I had no qualms about. Archie's is across the street, eat there.
google avatar

Erin A.

Yelp
Don't order the horchata, it's watery and nasty! We got street tacos with carnita and Asada plate. Carnita meat was a bit dry but good. Asada had alot of fatty parts making it hard to eat. The employees were nice although they wore their mask wrong (not covering their nose). Chips and salsa was great.
google avatar

Adam S.

Yelp
Dependable food and family owned. I always get the carne asada dinner with tortillas, thumbs up. Also get the chicken taquitos, pretty solid.
google avatar

Jonathan B.

Yelp
Yep. It's that good. Allow me to qualify that. Amazing large portions at a reasonable price. 2 item Combo for $10.99. Biggest burrito I have ever seen. Really good salsa and free chip refills. Great service. If you like rich, but not exactly "healthy" Mexican food, this place delivers.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Foot and service were excellent! We were originally going to go to the restaurant next door but the wait was to long. Very much to our benefit as the food was super good!
google avatar

Seth T.

Yelp
Fantastic food with huge portions for dinner. Very friendly service and food came out quick. I will note that we were the only ones in there upon arrival at 5:45 but it was filling up fast by the time we were leaving. I'm no Mexican food connoisseur, but this definitely seems more authentic than a typical run of the mill Mexican place.

Morgan S.

Yelp
I've been going to this restaurant for over half my life time. My parents took me as a kid and now I take my husband and child here. I love the food, the carne Asada is my favorite the flavor and quality is out of this world! Antonio the owner is a kind warm hearted, incredibly dedicated man. Good food, good company, and Delish drinks. Don't skip the fried ice cream. To die for.

Nick S.

Yelp
The Carne Asada with a chile relleno is the best in town. You should also try the Pollo al Chipotle. Always friendly service and they have ALL of the Mexican beers. We keep coming back!
google avatar

Steven E.

Yelp
Best Mexican meal I have had in my 5+ years in the Pacific Northwest. You could pick this place up and drop it in Houston, or San Antonio, or Austin (17 years in Texas) and it would be a perfect fit. The salsa is homemade and excellent! Friendly and courteous staff.
google avatar

Tavia B.

Yelp
Staff was friendly when I went to get my take out order, so I will give 2 stars for that. The trouble happened when I got home. My food had a weird taste and I found a black small plastic piece of something in my enchilada. I just got disgusted and threw my food away.
google avatar

Yelp
I will never order from Casa Durango again. I ordered Uber Eats and I did not receive the tortillas for my carne asada or chicken fajitas. Both regularly come with tortillas and the menu states that they do within the app. When I contacted the restaurant they said it was my fault for not stating specifically how many I wanted. They said I'd have to drive to pick them up so I did. When I got there instead of apologizing for the inconvenience they scolded me about how to use the app. I retorted that chicken fajitas come with tortillas. The woman at the counter said "no sir, not in the app". That's funny, what is a fajita without a tortilla? And the menu in the app says they come with tortillas. She continued to rudely snap at me that I was wrong. Finally she gave me some tortillas. My food was cold by the time I got to eat it. I've eaten at and ordered from Casa Durango many times before. Never again! Finalmente ella me dio algunas tortillas. Cuando llegué a comer, mi comida estaba fría. He comido y pedido en Casa Durango muchas veces antes. ¡Nunca más!

Yelp
Love Casa Durango! The staff remembers us every time and the food is awesome! I want to keep it a Burien secret but it is too good not to share.
google avatar

Yelp
Love it! Come here often when fiance and I are in the area. I always get the Camaronas a la Crema, and the sauce is just delicious. My finance loves the Enchilada a la Crema with chicken. Memo is awesome! Best service around!
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
Solidly good Mexican food. This is a great spot with fantastic service, delicious food and a comfortable atmosphere. I can recommend the enchiladas, burritos, tacos or carne asada. The fajita salad is also very good. Really, everything here is good!
google avatar

Monty M.

Yelp
Terrible. Went there for lunch and ordered a torta covered in chili sauce. The sauce was so crazy spicy that I could only get down 3 bites! I have enjoyed eating very spicy food my entire life, but this was literally unbearable. I won't venture a guess on the Scoville scale, but it was insane! Must have been one funny joke, because not only did the server come out to laugh at me sweating profusely and guzzling water, (which she didn't refill) she brought out the cook to join in on the fun! No "I'm sorry, can I get you something else? " just mockery. Definitely not a wise way to treat paying customers. Don't eat here. I won't make the mistake again.
google avatar

Wesley N.

Yelp
We had dinner here on a Friday night and were seated promptly. The waitress with the "mousy" voice was our server for the night. She was nice but it was obvious that when more customers came in she was a little overwhelmed, but she did a good job overall. We had beef fajitas and carne asada. The kids had a tasty quesadilla and a yummy burrito. The food was pretty good. It was fresh and tasty for the most part. Echoing some of the other reviews, the fajitas were a little on the bland side. The carne asada was very good and the chile relleno I ordered as part of the combo was perfect. Refried beans and rice were very good. This place is definitely worth coming back to.

Yelp
The food is great!!! Love the Chicken tortilla soup!!

Yelp
My family has been going here for about a year and the waiters now know us, even after a 3-month hiatus recently. Here are a few things that cause me to rate this restaurant 5 stars: 1) Kid-friendly but not kid-crazy; fun search and find menu (but the heart is not to be found!!) 2) They don't skimp on anything 3) They remember you and what you like (for example, we ask for the special bean and cheese dip with our chips while we wait and they know just what we mean and bring it every time!) 4) Delicious, fresh, plentiful food 5) Never crowded, no wait, happy to combine tables for a party of 6-8 A couple of things we don't love but that aren't enough to outweigh all the pluses above: 1) Drinks are hit and miss (margaritas sometimes great, sometimes meh, but they'll fix it if you tell them you want more tequila, more ice, etc.; sangria is non-alcoholic and in a bottle - huh?!?) 2) The booths are kind of snug and the seats slope down a little Overall, we love it, we go frequently, and we highly recommend for a family-friendly Mexican meal at a decent price.
google avatar

Amie A.

Yelp
WOW!! I had the Arroz Con Polo and it was just like my grandmother's. Their salsa is great and the chips we're crispy, not greasy or too salty. I can't wait to go back!!
google avatar

Heather R.

Yelp
This place has awesome reviews, that is what upsets me most. I hate to be negative, but the service put a damper on our evening. I ordered Tacos Pastor and they were amazing authentic. Love! My sister ordered an appetizer with shrimp, and she was surprised to see it wasn't cooked. It looked great quality, she tried and just didn't like it. The waitress was not readily willing to exchange for another, and said she would have to ask the chef. my sister personally didn't like what she ordered, (no offense to anyone), not their fault. We got a new meal, but then the waitress informed us the cook staff was making her feel bad because we sent back a dish. I would have given a rave review, but all this was so unnecessary and as patrons, we shouldn't be made to feel bad while eating dinner, that we are paying for.
google avatar

Kristen M.

Yelp
This place is the best Mex you've never heard of. From the DELICIOUS Carne Asada, Chili Rellenos, Enchiladas, Tamales...this place is really good. Casa D, as we call it in Normandy Park, is Mexican enough to please even the most Californian Californian yet American enough to be the perfect Mexican go-to joint for all Seattle-ites (okay, South-West-Seattleites.) Their lunch menu is inexpensive and more than worth it. The margaritas are yummy. The place is clean, comfy, and the first place that should come to mind when you think "where should we go for really good Mex?"
google avatar

Yelp
Well the food is good here the salsa is pretty much amazing , but while i was eating, I found an ant crawling on my arm and looked down and seen another one.. Eh ants are gross... I also came here on another day to get to go food, but i sat in the restraunt for 10 mintues without seeing any employee as well as getting any service..
