Casa El Morro, Uga, Lanzarote, Canary Islands - Explore & Book

"A cross between a Moroccan riad and an executive hippy hideaway, Casa El Morro is infused with a relaxed, meditative quality. An 18th-century house turned rustic hideaway, it’s perched above the pretty village of Uga, with Balinese daybeds round every shady corner, plus a large pool and terrace. Yoga sessions are held twice a week, and the sweet smell of incense adds to the floaty atmosphere. Seven self-contained suites for 2-5, each with its own kitchen and terrace, are scattered around the central balconied courtyard and the extensive grounds, while a family-sized yurt sleeping up to 6 holds a lofty position in the garden; there are further cottages at sister property Casa de la Caldera, a few miles down the road. Part Arabic, part Canarian and part East Asian, the décor in all is as eclectic as the clientele. From young families to yoga devotees to stressed-out professionals, there's a broad range of visitors enjoying carefree days in this stunning, lunar landscape. Getting back in tune with nature is the major lure, and the gardens are awash with citrus trees, Canary palms, figs and lavender. But it’s also a great base for exploring – Timanfaya National Park, the La Geria vineyards and the beaches of Papagayo, Playa Quemada and Famara are within easy reach, and several walks begin and end close by. Highs Supremely relaxing: the heated pool is surrounded by daybeds, massages can be arranged, and there are twice-weekly yoga classes Close enough to walk to local villages, but far enough away to feel pleasantly isolatedThe personal touch: owner Raquel took 10 years to create this hideaway, and shares many of her belongings so that it’s like staying with a close relativeLots to see and do nearby: the spectacular Timanfaya National Park, vineyards and beaches, riding and mountain-biking, hiking Lows No meals are provided; however, there are plenty of restaurants, markets and supermarkets close byMosquitoes can be a problem, though nets are provided for your bedThere's a minimum stay of 1 week, but shorter stays during the low season are consideredIf you're seeking sleek décor or buzzing nightlife, this isn't the place for you" - Joe Cawley

Wonderful, peaceful place to stay with lovely staff and enjoyable pool too. The building is very beautiful and we appreciated the staff facilitating vegan breakfast.

I have read some of the other reviews about Casa El Morro and I agree it's not as shiny and smart as some of the places on the coast but what it lacks in glamour it makes up in bucket loads in charm, peace, quiet and wonderful staff. We stayed in 5* accommodation earlier in the year in Playa Blanca and I know where I would rather be. I don’t think we have ever stayed self catering and been presented with such a huge choice at breakfast (included in the price) a lot on offer was home made which was a welcome change. We rarely go back to the same place twice but this lovely oasis would definitely be somewhere that we would consider returning to.

A little or a big piece from heaven. We were lucky to stay here for a month with our cat Mia, and we really enjoyed it. The island suffered tremendously due to covid and after the lock down everyone needed to adjust in space and start up...so were there hick ups? Yes! But every request we had was catered to by the lovely Laura and Raquel. As we couldn't have a car they offered us to take us to the supermarket. This is their true soul. They genuinely want you to have a good time and respect your privacy at the same time. The houses are amazing, the trees and plants, we just fell in love. We met beautiful people by the pool, and we will definately be back. If you like a stress free place this is your place. And if you dont like it, don't come here, you probably don't belong here. 😋

Everything was just okay, the room was big enough and the staff was friendly. However, the room was too dark and the television wasn’t working. Also the swimming pool was relatively small. It was not a bad stay but I won’t put this hotel on my first option next time.

We had an amazing time here. They created such an beautifl space, you can clearly see they put in the effort/attention into all the little details. It looked even better then the pictures. Spend 4 nights in the yurt with our daughter of 1,5 years. The Yurt comes with a seperate kitchen and bathroom as well as some outside area with tables and BBQ. It naturally merges with the public space and garden which also contains a pool and chill area. The garden is a whole story of itself, probably the greenest and most biodiverse area of whole lanzarote. Also had great experience with the Yoga and the deep tissue massage. We left well rested and longing for more Casa El Morro!

Oh dear …where to start…I have wanted to review Casa el Morro but after our experience there have been too angry-so have waited until I could calm and give a less biased and more fair review. The place itself is really beautiful and has a rustic ethnic charm. It is conveniently geographically placed-not too far from walks, beaches, shops-an amazing restaurant Bodega Uga I think it was called. The breakfast provided by Casa el Morro, was ok the first day but definitely lacking the following days as the same left over items were put out to display. We really needed a relaxing holiday-with a little luxury and to be well cared for. As Sawdays owners ourselves and noticing that these were we thought that this would be just perfect. And it was, we were very well cared for by staff- Laura. Raquel the owner however was beyond rude, she was really quite hateful and anything but the calm yogi. On our last night we had booked the sauna, we paid the extra, Raquel made clear to us that it should be turned off after use- which of course we would do as environmentalists and owners of a eco retreat…We didn’t end up using it, we turned it off. The next day as we went into breakfast, Raquel seemed very “off” with us glaring at us, was stropping around, some other guests came in, a family and she was super attentive to them-she then turned to myself (in front of the family of guests)and started screaming at me, accusing me of leaving the sauna on, of wasting electric etc-despite my humiliation and protestations that this was untrue that we had turned it off, she continued screaming in my face and calling me a liar. It was beyond hideous, she humiliated me, she upset me, she was so rude and screaming so close to my face her spittle touched it. We left the room, we were leaving that day anyway but I was beyond mortified at our treatment. The lovely Laura a true asset to Raquels business, came to us and was apologising on behalf of Raquel, she as well as I became really quite upset, I felt so sorry that she was feeling so bad for us and having to apologise on behalf of her employer. It turns out that apparently a "work/staff member" had switched the sauna on! Too late, we had already been publicly reprimanded and accused Laura had been fantastic for the whole of our stay, friendly, efficient, informed, hospitable, great customer service skills and in no way does my review score count to her care of us-she is 5 star and if it wasn’t for her I would have left a much worse review at the time of our stay. So-would I recommend Casa el Morro? Only if Raquel were a silent partner. The buildings, the rooms are fab, lovely pool but a 1 star based on the poor attitude of the owner Raquel

The best rural accommodation in Lanzarotte our Yurt was over our expectations. The owner is clearly good at paying attention to detail.
