"Believe it or not, this Westgate restaurant is one of the oldest Mexican restaurants in the area — it was opened in 1984 by Octavio and Dorita Garcia. The original has outlasted two additional locations for good reason — the spacious dining room modeled after a plaza is homey and lively, a favorite for family celebrations. Highlights include tamales, seafood enchiladas, chile relleno, and the flan." - Clair Lorell

This was a great experience. To be honest, I didn't really want to come here today as I had already has this type of food from two other places earlier this week; and both were disappointing in their own rights. I figured I would come anyhow because my companion had mentioned it a few times and I hadn't ever been here before. This was my first experience here. Unfortunately, it's ruined me. I can no longer enjoy Mexican food as any other restaurant as it just simply would not compare. The only place comparable is right outside of a little place called Houston TX and that's just too far away for my preference. Alas, I will be back. We ordered the Nachos Garcia, the Mexican Sampler and La Torta all were delicious. The nachos were definitely my favorite. Give this spot a shot and check it out for yourself. Found out from our lovely waiter that this month they turn 39yo- which should show you that they've earned a spot on anyone's list of places to go.

We went for happy hour, sat in the bar room. The sangria is quite strong and tasty. The chips and salsa were great, but the bean dip was not vegetarian. It had bacon in it, so we couldn't enjoy it. There were no vegetarian options on the menu, so we won't be back unfortunately. The search for a great veg-friendly Mexican place continues!

Their food is really good. They are pretty generous too.

The atmosphere makes you like you’re in the outdoors is Spain. The service was alright, she was very polite and attentive. The waitress handed our chips and dips for starters which was so good. It tasted fresh and homemade. I got the grilled shrimp tacos with corn and rice. The tacos were like something you never imagined. It was beyond delicious. It was amazing. The rice has no flavor but the taco took over the plate. I loved the tortilla soup that was served with it. But the building has a fly problem.

As usual, outstanding flavor and food portions with friendly, attentive service. Plus free fresh chips with salsa AND beans! Caught a couple of the fun lunch specials today.

Google
This is our close to home absolute go to Mexican restaurant. Can’t go wrong with free chips, salsa & bean drip for starters. We usually get chicken fajitas for two and it’s always solid. I’ve honestly never had anything I didn’t like here. We have also come in with large groups and that can be hit or miss.

We arrived with a large group (30) for a birthday party. We were seated and give 1 (one) waiter for the entire party. They wouldn't accommodate for an extra table (not occupied) so friends had to be alienated from main group, drink orders were taken but took 40 min to arrive to table (mostly waters). Food orders were taken quickly and well organized (by family name) as well as recommendations given. Food arrived slowly and all at once. A few people didn't get orders in a timely manner because orders were forgotten to be "put in system". Some issue we expected because of the size of the party. If would have helped if the owners were more accommodating and the floor manager gave some direction. Place was not overwhelmingly busy and seemed as though servers were very nonchalant. Did have another large party (25) in the "party room" but still didn't have much business on floor. Might try them again although food was typical for a Hispanic restaurant. Atmosphere was nice and server was helpful.

Always so good! Would have rathered chorizo in the queso but the only option was ground beef. It was ok. Love the Mexican pizza!

Yelp
My favorite little hidden gem. It's tucked away in a strip mall so it's hard to see, but it's huge inside with multiple dining rooms. The food is always good, their salsa and beans are to die for. Sopa del dia- soup of the day is always fresh and has vegetables and their steak fajitas are my go to. Service can be on the iffy side but the food makes up for it.

Michelle T.

Yelp
Finally. We come back and we get our fantastic server. Yeni. She says she has been here 6 years. If I could give her a reference to a new employer- I WOULD!

Kathy G.

Yelp
No one was in the entire restaurant and we sat there for five minutes. The wait staff did not come to us to get our drink order or bring us chips so we left. Needless to say that was our last time there.

Phil R.

Yelp
This place just amazes me. So consistent and so authentic. It never changes and always right on point. How many places do you go where food never changes and always stays consistent and fantastic and authentic? I have been coming here for over 25 years so I, speak from experience. A lot of good times here. Friendly service. Great Mexican dining experience. Great drinks. You owe it to yourself to try this place. Check it out. I don't think you'll be disappointed at all.

Anthony G L.

Yelp
Always good food and service. Been going since its opening. Food is always fresh and the service is very cordual. The place has the Mexican look.

Homer C.

Yelp
Great food, service and true Mexican hospitality. A wonderful place to bring your family.

Kristen S.

Yelp
Best salsa! Love their ceviche too! Like everything and Dave the bartender makes sure you are taken care of. Thanks Casa for being a local favorite

Yelp
Casa Garcia Mexican Restaurant located in a small shopping center off Veterans Memorial Boulevard has been a family restaurant since its inception. I recommend trying their homemade cuisine. I truely believe you'll find everything enjoyable. From the drinks and appetizers to the main dishes the flavors are original and delicious. The service has never disappointed us each time we visit and when we order out, you can be assured that the order is correct and consistent. Looking forward to our next visit.

Yelp
Found out about this place at the suggestion of my best friend. We went about a hour or so before closing. Upon sitting we were greeted with a really nice waitress who suggested that since we both wanted margaritas to get a pitcher of margarita. The margarita was very tasty. Not as strong as I wanted it to be, but it was still good. I ordered the seafood chimichanga and it was decent. Very little shrimp, and I didn't care too much for the excess crabmeat. Overall it was a nice dining experience. I'd go back again.

Yelp
Tucked away in Kenner off veterans in the back corner of a shopping center resides this little gem. This is more Tex-Mex that traditional Mexican food, but that really my favorite. It's family owned and been here for years because the quality and service and good. This is a family favorite of ours. The ambiance is a very traditional Mexican. This is a kid safe place and for the adults I'd recommend the margaritas! Drink up my friends!

Christopher W.

Yelp
Food has gone downhill lately, flavorless and mediocre. The bathrooms are atrocious and filthy. The decor is dirty and faded along with the smell of wet dog throughout. The service is adequate but does not make up for everything else. The owners should close the place and fix the bathrooms, repaint and replace the disgusting floor before reopening for business.

Yelp
Got here at 5:20 with my family. The time it took to order was about 540pm when we had already finished all of the chips with dip. When ordering our drinks the sodas were flat. We had ordered 3 sprites and one water with lemon. The sprites were flat tasted like water. Waiter took them back and brought us some other sprites... they were still flat. Then when he took them back the waiter accidentally took the water with lemon when I asked him could I get another lemon because it was only one lemon slice in my water he left one of the sprites behind. Once that was corrected as well. The food did not come out till 6:35 and it was only brought out when we asked how much longer the food would be? We ordered tacos Al carbon which comes two tacos and beans with rice loco de gallo sour cream a guacamole spread over lettuce, steak fajitas, a soup of tortilla for one of kids, and then the el tavo which is a simple cheese quesadilla with fries. Once our food got out my baby was up and ready to be breastfed. So I had to ask for our stuff to go. Forgot to mention their wasn't any napkins given other than the ones that covered our forks and knives. Also for the fajitas it was specified no beans just extra rice.... The beans were still placed on the table. Once our to go plates came they came starting to retrieve the stuff off the table and they took the tortillas to the fajita meal. Didn't provide us any plastic silverware knowing that we would be eating on the go. They had other two couple and three person parties seated after us that were accommodated before us. The hostess's at the front door did not give any intel to the wait time for the food. Even though we were seated immediately. The environment was nice but super packed once we were seated. The waiter was sweet and apologized for the flat sodas and explained the wait time for food is usually about an hour. Overall the food was good.

Yelp
This is our top/only preference for Mexican food. The restaurant is large with quite a bit of space between tables so not crowded or noisy yet always has most tables full. Service is absolutely excellent. The food is authentic Mexican & the taste is fantastic. The menu is extensive, it the 10+ years we've dined here we have tried many different dinners & neither my husband, children nor I have had something we would not have again although we all have our favorites. This is not a fancy looking restaurant, plain, but both the service & the food are superior in quality. Wonderful!

Maia B.

Yelp
our food came out so fast and everything tasted great! our waitress, victoria, was so observant and noticed whenever we needed refills and was very fast.

Sheri C.

Yelp
Had an impromptu lunch here. We were short on time, but luckily our food came out quickly. We were a party of 2. The chips and salsa - YESSSSSS!!! OMG so damn good... I got mostly full on those... I ordered the ground beef taco salad. It was huge and delicious. But since I was already kinda full on the chips and salsa, I couldn't finish it. My other half had a side salad w/extra blue cheese (I tried telling them that dressing was discontinued). The lunch specials are great, I believe they ranged from $10-15, which is a good range for the amount of food you get! I wish I had known about this place earlier, I would have been here wayyyyy so many times before this! Very relaxed ambiance and I liked it. I will definitely return!

Somkhit P.

Yelp
This place is great!! I love the salsa and dip!! I love their chimichanga's, mama's casa made tamales, and chicken enchiladas. Of course top these off with a cheese sauce!!

N J.

Yelp
From what I remember, this place was just okay, now, it's terrible. Ordering was easy, said 20 minutes, we got there in 10, food was already out and cold. We ordered 1 nachos, 1 mexican sampler, 1 queso. The sampler was barely edible, had zero flavor, came with 2 sides (beans and "mexican corn"), what they mean by "mexican corn" is canned corn, nothing added. The queso was 1/2 pint for $8, a little pricey for the serving size. The nachos, nothing spectacular. 1 star for chips and a teeny-tiny salsa coming with the meal. The taco bell across the street is much, much better.

Jay A.

Yelp
Not as good as it used to be. I was served cold refried beans, ordered a shot of tequila which, in my opinion was 1/4 of a regular shot. Apparently they are short handed of help, and are using regular floor hands to do bartending chores.

Hazel R.

Yelp
Finally a Mexican restaurant that doesn't drown everything in cheese! Consistency is there everything is fresh. The bartenders are entertaining and their cocktails are on target!

Eric M.

Yelp
I'm from Houston and still searching for a great Tex-Mex restaurant. This might be it. I had the combination selecta with a crispy taco on the side. It was delicious. Chips and salsa were excellent. Bean dip was a treat. I need a few more visits before I can say I've found my Mexican restaurant, but so far this is the best.

Marie C.

Yelp
we were charged twice for our meal showed them the account where it was charged and they still wouldn't fix it so we had to dispute the charge with our bank the manager just refused to except it happened even after we showed him proof so make sure you lo at your account they're ripping people off

Tom C.

Yelp
Everything is homemade. Everything is delicious fresh serves quickly drinks are generous staff is very friendly never ending chips and salsa and bean dip it's just a great great restaurant.

Marielle S.

Yelp
Man, it's been ages since I ate here. I think it was back in my pre-Yelp days, even. I stopped in here with a hankering for a burrito (pretty commonplace for me). I first started with some chips and queso and the restaurant's own bean dip and salsa. It was all perfect. For my entree, I got the Burrito Gigante with shredded chicken and cheese sauce. It was incredible and, of course, I had plenty left over. It definitely satisfied my burrito craving.

Heather G.

Yelp
The owner or manager of this restaurant is rude and not accommodating. Our family and kids like eating here so we will occasionally come here for a birthday dinner in the family. The last 2 times she was completely rude and mad that we showed up with a big party, but they don't accept reservations. And we don't mind waiting for tables to become available. Today we had all the kids at one table and they sat some others at a second table, was supposed to be getting a 3rd one ready in a whole different room than our party, but they kept seating others and legit never got us a table while half our party already ordered. So after already standing around for an hour, we waited until a few people got up and had to sit at the bar. Truly unbelievable. I will not be coming back.

Angora S.

Yelp
Really wanted to like this place because it's hailed as authentic and that just simply wasn't my experience. The food seems seasoned for a palate that can't handle any level of well seasoned food. My and my sons favorite cuisine is Mexican and we eat authentic Mexican all the time (Mexico, Los Angeles, Texas) Seems to be hard to come by down here. I was highly disappointed. After about two or three bites of everything, we asked for the check and got something else to eat elsewhere. Unseasoned. Asked for salsa, to salvage this horrid excuse for Mexican and it had no spice level - too much cumin and nothing else in it to season the tomatoes and onions in it. If you've enjoy authentic Mexican not catered to an unrefined American tongue then I'd avoid this place.

Cassie M.

Yelp
My favorite Mexican Restaurant in Metairie. The lunch specials are such a great value! You can't go wrong with the chicken tand the steak fajitas especially when paired with there delicious pitchers of sangria and margaritas! Love!

Imran S.

Yelp
We have been to Casa Garcia many times during the pandemic. The reason we go back is because the food is good, the portions are decent, and the service is good. we've gotten different things but this time we got the nachos, with beef on the side; and a platter with cheese enchilada, chicken enchilada, and a beef taco and chicken taco. Everything was tasty, the portions were good and all the substations that we made were correctly honored. the food also comes with chips and salsa which were also very good

Kurt L.

Yelp
This place really is awesome. The people are great and the food is outstanding. Mostly the beef and seafood dishes

Paul S.

Yelp
Always a good call for dine in or take a way! The bean dip and queso dip is addicting

Michelle S.

Yelp
Excellent! Great service, great food, nice table, great atmosphere! Love Casa Garcia's! My family's go-to for celebrations!

Kris C.

Yelp
Great Mexican food with awesome service. Some of the best salsa around. I like a good salsa and they have one of the best around. They serve chips, salsa and refried beans to all the tables, with free refills. We normally go through a couple of baskets of chips and are too full to finish our meal. lol If you like Sangria, get it here. Awesome!!! I like the fish and shrimp tacos. The fajitas are great also. We never had a bad meal or bad service.

Jessica N.

Yelp
Gross. Everything was over priced and gross. Definitely will not come back. Queso was chunky. Steak fajitas tasted off, like the steak was bad... salsa wasn't even good! And then the restaurant just smelled gross. Not worth it at all

Kelsey P.

Yelp
Casa Garcia is pretty much your basic Mexican restaurant. It'll do in a pinch, but there's nothing too special about it that sets it apart from other generic Mexican restaurants. I got the ground beef tacos, which were well, tacos. There's not much I could say about them. Our server was sweet and attentive, which did help make our experience, but overall I'm not yearning to go back anytime soon.

Ava H.

Yelp
This restaurant is lazy and unorganized. They were unorganized because they gave our check all together and didn't ask who was on who's check. So we had to figure out it on our own. Also they only allowed us to split the check 3 ways, even though we had like 14 people with us.I had to send my food back 4 different times. The ambiance was very odd because while we were eating, we were being stared at. (BTW THIS IS A ZERO STAR PLACE BUT I HAD TO PUT A 1 STAR)

Helen M.

Yelp
This spot is so easy to miss. Very Very excited though because i kept wanting to try this spot but Covid stood in my way...and also the fact that it's a drive from the east tbh. So far I was greeted soon as i walked inside. My waitress was very informative about the menu. I was a bit embarrassed about asking her about many of the items though, however, she made me comfortable! So she brought out 2 dips along with fresh chips . The First dip really remind me of navy beans to be honest on a chip. Lol. It was very different. However, i found myself liking this more than the salsa. I went with the special today which was called surf and turf. You guys it was so good. Although the fajita steak wasnt seasoned enough in my opinion, it still went down just as good. The stuffed seafood enchilada was really good. Had chunks of crab and also some shrimp inside it. The quesadilla was regular. The beans and rice which was an add on was decent. Overall this meal was great! For $16+ i definitely was not complaining. I definitely wants to come back to try the margaritas options because i couldn't drink unfortunately.

Dan H.

Yelp
Always consistently good. Family friendly. Chips, drinks good as well. Fajitas for two really well done.

Matthew L.

Yelp
Can't complain when the food is this good. Came here with the lady for date night and even though it stormed like no other, we were still able to come get some great Mexican. This place has been operating for a long time and I do remember that I came as a child once. The food is just as good as the first time I was here! Everything was great, from the salsa to the sampler, everything was just on point. Price was not too bad and of course the portions were amazing. It's hidden away in a shopping mall but once you go inside you will feel at home. Please go try!

Susmitha K.

Yelp
Good food good people great experience for an average cost we will visiting this place again

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
I can see why this place was packed and the line of people waiting was almost out the door. I has heard about this but it's appearance from the outside is very deceiving. It's big inside. It doesn't look like it dies much business..but don't be fooled. Those cars parked in this strip mall are for this restaurant. We didn't have to wait too long to be seated thankfully. We gotbthere just before it started to get too crowded..around 545ish on a Friday. We were seated, they took our drink order. Our server knew her drinks. And we were also give chips with salsa and a warm bean dip. That dip was good. Once we placed our orders...got our drinks and chomped on chips...then the WAIT. The wait was longer than I am used to about 40-45 min...but our server was good about checking on us. I appreciated it. She refilled our chips and dips and our drinks. So even though the wait was longer than I liked, the server totally made up for it as did the chips and dips. Our food... It was recommended by a friend to order the chile rellenos ($16.95). I must say that it was a great decision. The serving portions are plentiful and the food is delicious and not spicy at all. Just the right amount of flavors. I only ate half and had enough to bring home to my 20 yr old son. We also has the beef tacos without lettuce amd tomato..just beef ans cheese. I tell you they filled tnos tacos up! Very satisfying. For dinner we has the flan with extra whipped cream. If you like creme brulee, you will definitely enjoy this very rich flan. I had a great time and really emjoyed my food and drinka here. I will be back again. The only thing that kept it from 5 stars was the wait time for the entrees. It's really like a 4.6 stars.

Dean K.

Yelp
Nothing Mexican about this food!! Very Bland no seasoning r spices ! The Drinks were just as bad ! On a good note the waitress was very good and nice ! My advice! Drive on !! Don't know how this place has a average of 3 1/2 stars. My guess people from New Orleans & area haven't had really good Mexican food b4 !!

Andi F.

Yelp
This restaurant is on the south side of Veterans BLVD, in the corner of an L-shaped strip mall, the parking can be tricky depending on the time of day as there are several popular stores. The interior has a kitchy feel with what someone who has never been south of the United States would imagine a restaurant there to look like. Granted, I have never been either, so take that with a grain of salt. Walking in, you are immediately greeted and seated, and everything seems to be neat and clean inside, empty tables quickly bussed and cleaned. I have never had to wait, but that may have been luck on my part. The restrooms are neat, clean and well stocked. I have never had a bad meal here. Whether its the tacos, enchiladas, burritos or whatever. Service is good, but at times can be spotty when you are wanting to pay your bill and leave. The desserts are really amazing. Not the complete highlight of the meal, those would be the chips/salsa/bean dip others have mentioned, but these are not to be missed, so save some room!

Lindsey B.

Yelp
I love casa Garcia! Been going here since I was in high school cause it was literally next door to my old job and we would order CG weekly. The club salad with the green dressing! Yum! Obviously Chile Relanos is always a must and their spinach and artichoke app is really good. And you must find room to eat the fried ice cream ball thing. I meannn that is to die for. The service is always attentive and quick which I like. Fun to go with big groups of people.

Sheila C.

Yelp
We started with guacamole and asked if they could make it without onion and the waitress said they could. When it arrived we learned that apparently they can't but the guac was still good. LOL My friends and myself ordered three main dishes; tamales, tacos and flautas and then split them. Yes CG offers a combo platter but my friend had ordered that in the past and was not pleased so we opted for "sharing". The atmosphere was loud (this a very large high ceiling room) but very family friendly. Someone was celebrating a birthday in the adjacent dining room. Our waitress, Giovanni, was very accommodating, even with our needs for extra plates and more water. Good food, nice people decent prices. I'll be back.

Cathy B.

Yelp
After trying several other restaurants that all had waiting lines, we find this jewel. While the menu was not extensive all the choices looked good. We were served chips with a bowl of salsa and a bowl of refried beans. We have never had beans served with chips before. They tasted great. I had the Chile rellenos and my husband had the burrito gigante. Both tasted yummy

David N.

Yelp
Since moving to the area a few years ago, we have enjoyed our meals at Casa Garcia. However, in the last several months, the quality of the food has noticeably and savorily diminished. Last evening, was the "straw that broke the camels back!" First, our waitperson was excellent. We ordered our food, and after it was delivered, we began our dining experience. Unfortunately, about half-way through my meal salad, I noticed a small bug scurrying about my plate and embedding itself into a mixture of avocado and dressing. I immediately notified our waiter, and I requested that the salad be remade, and that I would like to speak to the manager. Our waitperson returned and informed me that the manager/owner stated that they would not remake the salad, remove it from our bill, and would NOT come out to see me. In my 60+ years of restaurant dining, I have NEVER had a manger refuse to talk to a customer to address or apologize for the food or the dinning experience. AMAZING! There are several other fine dining Mexican Restaurant's in the NOLA area...that's where I'll be dining.

Yelp
My buddy Chris and I ate at Casa Garcia yesterday for lunch and we both agreed it was the best Mexican we'd had in years and this place moved to the top of our Mexican list. I'm just returning to the area after being away for a long time and we have been checking out Mexican places. We got house margaritas rocks and they were good. When you sit down you get free tortilla chips, salsa and a warm refried bean dip and both dips were very good. I got the chicken fajitas lunch and it was the most flavorful fajitas I've had. I usually get beef because chicken can be bland, but this chicken was fantastic. Cant wait to try their beef. It was perfect the way everything was served. The cold stuff came on a separate saucer - sour cream, shredded cheese, lettuce, and guacamole (good portions!). The hot sides on their own plate (rice & beans). The flour tortillas wrapped in foil on a little plate. And of course the grilled chicken, onions, and peppers came out sizzling on an iron skillet. I was surprised that even the guacamole and cheese were noticeably better than other places. My buddy had a dinner combination plate and his only complaint was that he couldn't eat it all. He had a taco, enchilada, poblano pepper stuffed w cheese and a chicken flauta. He loved it all. When got filled up he offered the rest of his poblano pepper and I said I'd take "just one bite". It was so good I ate all the rest. Again, it was very flavorful like everything else we had.

Lacey D.

Yelp
I have eaten here many times, and was surprised I have never left a review. I have mostly found the food tasty and the service good. The free bean dip is delicious. Some of our favorites are the queso, shredded beef tacos, fajitas and the chimichanga. The grilled steaks and chicken are great as well. The lunch prices are really reasonable.

Jose G.

Yelp
Casa Garcia used to be one of my fav places to eat Tex Amex food. One of the things that I would always rave about them, was how the food quality would always be consistent...Until now. I guess they no longer care about that. I ordered the steak tanpiqueña, and boy what a big disappointment it was. I ordered medium well, and instead I got over well done. This is after I emphasized it twice to the waitress to make sure they didn't make it well done. After I brought it up to the waitress she didn't even bother to apologize for it. Instead she questioned me if I had ordered a well done (smh)...she brings it back to the kitchen, and five minutes later I get served this RARE steak with COLD rice and enchiladas. I then again asked for the waitress and again she didn't even apologized for it. She started to blame it on the kitchen's fault. I asked for a manager, he came to my table and didn't even try to fix their twice made mistake. He just gave a poor excuse saying the kitchen made it wrong. Never offered anything instead, but went to say: "if we make it again it would be too late"...are you kidding me? This is my last time I would go visit this place. I guess "Don Jose" is my next Go-To Restaurant.

Chris F.

Yelp
This place is ver friendly thay don't treat you like a number they treat you like family very nice people would recommend to anyone who is looking for a great food experience A+++++++++++++++++

Yelp
Great Tex-Mex restaurant! This was my first experience at Casa Garcia and I think it was great. The restaurant is very clean, painted with fun colors, and Mexican decor. I went at lunch time and the restaurant was not that busy, but their was quite a few of us there for a Tuesday afternoon. The staff was friendly and our waitress was very sweet and very fast. We started off with complimentary chips with salsa and a bean dip; which was great. I ordered the #1 on the lunch menu which consisted of a beef taco, a cheese enchilada, a beef flauta (which I switched for a chicken flauta), Mexican rice, retried beans, and guacamole with sour cream. My favorite was the chicken flauta so I'd probably order the flauta combo next time. Everything I ate was still good (tacos could be better) but I would order it again. My husband enjoyed his meal was well (#4). We then ordered the fried ice cream which was amazing! It may sound like a crazy concept but it's a must try. Overall, I say this place is great and I would give it a try if you're are in the area.
