Casa Fayette

"Located in Guadalajara’s up-and-coming Lafayette arts district, the quirky Casa Fayette reflects the changing face of the area by blending the traditional with the trendy. The entire hotel is a study in contrasts, from its all-white 1940s Art Deco facade to its eclectic, ultramodern touches: think rooms lined with brightly colored glass panels, edgy, industrial light fixtures, and space-efficient, multifunctional furniture. The hotel’s restaurant is also charmingly offbeat, helmed by New York chef Trevor de la Presle—formerly mentored by Daniel Boulud—and specializing in American comfort food made using Mexican ingredients. Throw in a retro-inspired bar and a sprawling terrace with the city’s best sunset views, and Casa Fayette may just be Mexico’s hippest new hotel. Editor's Pick: Hot List 2016"

We had a really nice stay. The design is really top notch. The vouchers for cocktails at the pool were appreciated. They also helped us with a 9 am early check in for a fee after arriving on a redeye. The bed was comfortable. I would stay here again.

Absolutely gorgeous property and lovely rooms. I really enjoyed my stay; after checkout, I reviewed my folio and was surprised to see more than 12 minibar charges — and for items that were not even present in the room during my stay. It’s been a nightmare to have these erroneous charges removed following my departure - multiple calls, emails, etc etc. Would unfortunately not recommend as a result.

I do not recommend this hotel. We were charged almost $200 for a bed sheet due to a makeup smudge. I travel often and have never experienced this before at another hotel. In our large group, 5 out of 7 rooms were charged for bed sheet, pillowcase, and/or duvet replacements. All different amounts upwards of $300 USD. We filed a complaint with the general manager, who was no help at all. Such a shame because this hotel is set in a nice location and the staff is lovely.

I’m going to start off with the negative because that’s the reason I’m never staying here again. It was a big group of us and at checkout we had so many charges added to our credit cards. I was charged items from the mini bar and extra eggs at breakfast. Even though it was not much its about the ethics and it’s sad that all of our 7 rooms got charged something. The big charges came apparently from damages to the rooms. I got charged $800 pesos for a stain on the sheets that I never saw and I’m pretty sure we didn’t do. All other rooms were charged way more from makeup stains and apparently blood stains. It was ridiculous especially because every single room got these charges. I would understand maybe one or two but every single room got charged. At this point I believe they took advantage and just charged whatever they felt including those small little charge items that we didn’t not get. I really suggest that you do not charge anything to the room and that you close out everything and just leave cash tip. I also recommend that you ask for a room check when you check in and room check when you leave the room and please take pictures too. My charger was also stolen from the room and again I know it was something small but I still feel that they shouldn’t touch anything in our room. I really hate the lack of transparency and how it seemed like they took advantage of the situation. Even though the rooms were not the best I understood and appreciated the art deco vibe. I loved the location and breakfast was good. Drinks at the bottom bar were great and the bar tenders were awesome specially Alex and Alvaro. Really hate that we had to end our amazing trip on a wrong note due to all these ridiculous charges! I will leave a photo of the sheet stains that I’m being charged $800 pesos for.

To start, the hotel aesthetic was nice and the service was friendly. As someone who travels to Mexico several times a year, the room prices are comparable to other nice boutique hotels however the quality is not up to standard. The most inconvenient part of the stay is they layout and design of the rooms. The room is small, which would be fine if the space planning were better but it is not. It is terrible for especially a woman trying to get dressed and ready for the day. There is no vanity or place to place for makeup or products in the restroom, just a pedestal sink and tiny wall cutout. Also there is nowhere to set a curling iron or the hair dryer. So the next option would be to sit somewhere outside of the restroom to get ready but there is only a tiny table behind the bed and it is in a completely dark area. Also, there is a chair next to it, not suitable for sitting at said small table. The only option, which was a terrible one, was to lay makeup out on the bed near a window for natural light. I did place a towel under my products however was still charged nearly $300 for makeup on a sheet and two pillowcases. We were travelling with a group of 14. Out of 7 rooms, 5 were charged with damaged sheets. Even if 5 rooms did get "makeup" on the sheets, I truly doubt that all 5 were damaged to the point that they had to be replaced rather than just cleaned. This is not something that we discussed or conspired amongst our group- lets all get makeup on the bed and ruin sheets! It is a space issue the hotel needs to address. Until then, it really seems like a scam to get extra charges on people. Aside from this, the electrical outlets are few and in weird places for charging electronics. My husband had to set his laptop on the floor between the wall and the bed to charge and I had to step over it to get to and from sides of the room. There was no ironing board in our room so again, I had to iron on the bed, totally unacceptable. Another couple in our group was charged for damaged restrooom tiles, which they are absolutely sure did not damage. Beware if staying here and take pictures of every nook in the room upon arrival. Other than this, the free breakfast was mediocre. They charge a dollar for eggs with chilaquiles which seems a little ridiculous, why not just include eggs instead of nickel and diming? The bartenders are actually great and every cocktail had was good although the prices are a little higher than expected. I would not have flinched at the prices if the other issues at the hotel wouldn't have been so prominent. I would not recommend this hotel for a stay but would for a stop at the bar which has a nice vibe in the evenings.

Casa Habitata The receptionist desk is the best I’ve ever seen and we travel a lot. Gaby, Olivia and Fatima went so far above the call of duty. From rearranging several transportation transfer requests to trying to procure a bottle of special tequila, and pointing out the best local food venders. They are absolutely hospitality stars! We also loved the hotel amenities too. The rooftop pool was a great place to get some sun. Breakfast every morning was delicious with healthy fruit juices. We got 90 minute deep tissue massages that made all the walking feel like air. Definitely a great place to enjoy life!

I writing this review while currently laying down trying to figure out other people’s good review, the front desk staff and not polite and it seems you are bothering them when asking a question. The elevator and hallways are antiquated and looks dirty with carpets they probably haven’t changed or clean from the the first day they open, now the main show the room are uncomfortable dated and looks dirty no place to anything down the bathroom needs a deep clean it is just dirty, it feels like staying at an American quality inn chain instead of a boutique hotel, Marriott needs to come an regulate this hotel as it does not meet the standard of Marriott brand. Thank God I’m only staying here for one night if not I would be changing hotel. I will not be showering here.

Who built this place? The shower had yellowed, the layout was weird and inefficient and the space was dated. This looks like someone’s first attempt at a boutique hotel that was then sold to Marriott and forgotten about. It hardly had any outlets, iron with no board, basic room is small and cramped, speaker with no cord, weak Internet. ||The bathroom seems to me like it’s a prefab bathroom from Chinese importer, Alibaba. Pedestal sink with no storage, mix of cool vintage brass fixtures and dated chrome fixtures. ||Front desk does not make you feel welcome. They keep their head down. We had to go back after day 1 and ask for breakfast vouchers and as Bonvoy members we were not offered an upgrade, even though rooms were available. No local recommendations or information on airport transfer. The chilaquiles breakfast was one of the worst I’ve ever had. ||This hotel seems to be trying to cut back at the expense of guests. We passed by a bunch of really cute boutique hotels. Check out Google maps and find a place that will appreciate your business.

Yelp
Casa Habita is a gorgeous boutique hotel in Guadalajara. The rooms are well appointed with little luxuries. Every space in the hotel has a unique element of style that I really appreciate. The breakfast is delicious, the staff is friendly, and the space is great to work from. I'd highly recommend staying here if you're looking to spend time in a lovely hotel with amazing style, delicious food and drinks, and great staff.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Habita. The room, our daily breakfast in the restaurant, our nightly drink in the hotel bar, and the wonderful staff, everything was outstanding One of the front desk staff members - Israel - was particularly exceptional. He helped us with a number of different requests and he always did so with a tremendous, upbeat attitude. If you stay at Casa Habita, I am sure you will enjoy the experience and the hotel's central location

Yelp
We booked this hotel to try something new, cute boutique feel. Beds are incredibly comfortable. House keeping did amazing with keeping up daily. Continental breakfast is tasty. Overall great experience. Only reason I dont to 5 stars is because we did have to move rooms due to AC not working. They were very kind to move us rooms and accommodate that problem. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Now Casa Habita, my favorite boutique hotel in Guadalajara. Always a nice stay at Casa Habita. Service is nice and attentive. Decor is chic and a minimalists dream, soft hues of rose pink and forest greens throughout the hotels decor, an instagram heaven. Guest rooms are perfect. I have stayed in their suites and regular rooms and they are as comfortable as they can be. Free good WiFi. Soft plush robes are always welcomed, and beds are as soft as can be. Bathrooms are spacious and attention to detail is not spared. Hotel provided a complimentary massage with Liz, and it was AMAZING! Definitely recommend her, very professional, nice, and amazing therapeutic skills. Overall a great value for your dollar here, and definitely recommend Casa Habita for your stay in GDL. Gracias!

Yelp
This is a lovely little hotel. So boutique and cute and I had the best time enjoying breakfast every morning. Continental breakfast was free and included in my stay but it seem to be quite flexible so every day I got something a bit different. I tried out toast, sweet bread etc. and I always had a lovely coffee served with it.

Yelp
I had trouble rating this place. There were things that went wrong, but then they fixed them well (except once). First, they checked us into a room that didn't have air-conditioning. So we boiled in bed for a while until my wife couldn't take it and we called the front desk and I think she realized she'd made a mistake so she moved us to a new room. So we had to get up and pack and move to a new room at midnight. HOWEVER, she upgraded us to a junior suite in the process. The difference was so extreme that it really made up for the error. That's how errors should be fixed: make the solution so good that the guest is thrilled you made the error and that's what happened here. So I don't hold this against them and am grateful for the upgrade because the large window and spacious, minimalist affect of the junior suit was a night-and-day improvement. The original studio was very cramped with a very lackluster view. The junior suit was spacious and elegant with a spectacular view. Second, the continental breakfast was supposed to be offered until noon. When we got there, there was nothing to be found and the workers didn't seem to know what we were talking about. So we went to the front desk and the manager looked at the clock and then went in and arranged a special continental breakfast brought to our table. Again, mistake yes, but they fixed it very well. The one that really bothered me was that they offer a shuttle service. I've never had a hotel charge for airport shuttles (and I stay in a lot of hotels). I was on the phone with the front desk worker for 5 minutes arranging this shuttle, answering a bunch of questions, and getting put on hold etc. She never told me there was a fee. They were saving that surprise for checkout. That took a confident five-star feeling and dropped it to 3 or 4 because I felt blindsided and taken-advantage of and the manager guy at the desk was not very comforting. He first claimed that the worker probably told me (she didn't), then that their fee was lower than taxis and uber (it wasn't all- in fact it was higher), and then then that they sent me an email through Expedia saying there was a fee. When I looked back, this turned out to be true. A day or two before checking in they sent a whole welcome email and at the bottom of the page it mentioned that shuttles were available for a "small fee". Unfortunately, I had only skimmed that email. They do not tell you when you order it that there is a fee or how much it is, they don't mention it on their website, and they don't even list the fee amount in their welcome email. They also charged a very gratuitous 70 peso fee for a bottle of water. Fine, whatever, I at least knew to expect to be overcharged for that so I'm not counting that in my review. So despite my very happy 3 days there, the surprise shuttle fee really rubbed me the wrong way and tainted my view. The reason I'm still leaving 5 stars is because on the way out, my uber got lost and one of the bellmen graciously spoke with him on the phone and even ran up the street to guide him to the hotel. GPS is iffy about finding the place and it doesn't stand out too well either. He then helped us into the uber and put our luggage in totally out of the goodness of his heart. So I restored the 5th star for him and because I (mostly) loved my stay there. The service was very good. The manager guy was ok, but everyone else was great. Very, very, great from the housekeeper, the front desk, the bartender, the restaurant staff, the massage therapist, the bellmen. Fantastic service all around. The studio rooms were too small, dark, and cramped with dull views. If we'd remained in that room, my review would have been lower. But since they gave us a junior suite, I'm basing it on that which was 5 stars for sure. We really enjoyed looking out the window before bed and when waking up. They give you coupons for freebies (free 10-minute massage, free margarita, free continental breakfast). The place is clean and comfortable and I recommend it. Just uber there though or pay the $350-$400 fee. And expect to be gauged on any purchases through the hotel. Also, it's not apparent, but the green furniture behind the bed is a closet so if you find something missing, the housekeeper may have put it in there. There is also space for storage, a refrigerator, and a robe and slippers. It's really cool once you know what it is!

Yelp
Wonderful boutique hotel with an exquisite restaurant. The best home made pastries sweetbreads and scones I've ever had! The service and food quality is top notch. The feeling is retro modern and a feast to the eyes. Truly enchanting. Definitely will be back!!
