Casa Honduras Review - New Orleans East - New Orleans - The Infatuation

"Casa Honduras, a former Shoney’s turned Honduran restaurant, is sort of like three businesses in one: an affordable breakfast spot full of families, a sports bar to watch soccer during the afternoon, and a discoteca at night where you can dance and do a shot of gifiti, a rum-based botanical that’s a Garifuna tradition. But you’re here for breakfast, which means that pupusas with stretchy cheese and tender chicharron and a baleada con todo are non-negotiables. For the latter, they take a thick white corn tortilla and fill it with refried beans, cream, queso fresco, avocado, scrambled eggs, and a big helping of carne asada. Always get some maduros and a maracuya or melon agua fresca as well." - Megan Braden-Perry

‼️‼️‼️Disappointing Experience – Overpriced and Underwhelming‼️‼️‼️‼️ I recently visited this establishment with my family, and I must say, it was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the service was lackluster at best. Our server seemed disinterested and inattentive, which set the tone for the rest of our meal. To make matters worse, we were overcharged for several items on our bill. I couldn't believe that they had the audacity to charge us $5 for a small side of extra onions! That’s just ridiculous and feels more like a money grab than a reasonable charge. As for the food, it was nothing short of mediocre. My child's hash brown was a soggy mess, completely soaked in oil and lacking any flavor. It was so unappetizing that my child didn’t even want to eat it. If you can’t get a simple hash brown right, then what hope is there for the rest of the menu? Additionally, we noticed that the staff took the hot sauce bottle from our table without even asking if we were finished with it. It felt incredibly rude and left us scrambling to find someone to bring us another one. Overall, this place is a far cry from a good dining experience. It reminded me of Honduras kitchen on its worst day – overpriced and disappointing. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a satisfying meal. Save your money and your time!

The snail soup in coconut milk was amazing! The grilled snail was not as impressive and it had a slight smell like if it was starting to go bad but i still ate it, did not complain about it and did not get sick afterwards. The plates are large enough to make anybody full!!! The service was nice and friendly, the place was not busy at all. Had a good time and good food 😌❤️

Google
The food tastes very tasty, easy and safe on the stomach The way the food is prepared is beautiful. This is different from the special atmosphere in the restaurant and the staff treat the audience with respect. I recommend visiting this restaurant and trying the food here because it is very beautiful and deserves 5 stars. The atmosphere is also very beautiful and fabulous.

I took my mom out to eat here for lunch on her birthday and right away, the location was kinda sketch, a car stopped infron of us around the corner from the restaurant for the passenger to get off and tag a wall. As we entered the parking lot of the restaurant, the restaurant entrance wall was tagged up too right underneath where it says Casa Honduras. Then I noticed it said cash only but I still went inside to see if maybe they would take zelle or venmo and the waitress said had an ATM machine inside. We ordered our food and my moms pollo guisado con tajadas was pretty good however my plate, yucca con chicharron was terrible, my plate was nothing but yucca, some pieces were still hard and wordt of all, they literally gave me 4 small pieces of the regular chicharron that you would buy in a bag at any latino market, no meat whatsoever, and only 4 pieces!!!! Then the waitress never came by again to ask if we needed anything else or when we were done and wanted our check and a box to go we had to keep calling her over. In the end, if you dont mind going into the hood for the good pollo guisado with mediocre service, but excellent air-conditioning then check it out. Other than that, it was terrible! I overall do not recommend it!

Google
The food in this restaurant is good, but the size is too small and for how expensive it is, the truth is that I will never go to a place like this to eat again

Yelp
Came on recommendation from my Honduran friend. Place is spacious and has a parking lot which is nice. First time ever having Honduran food. Friend recommended the baleadas as they are a staple. I got the baleada regular which comes with beans dry cheese and sour cream. They are extremely simple but delicious. The beans have so much flavor and the tortilla is well made. They also have the option of putting egg or meat or both inside as well. I also chose the tajadas because plantanos are one of my fav foods. I got the carne molida even though I saw from reviews that the chicken was popular. I just couldn't handle fried tajadas and fried chicken but I def should have went with the chicken. The carne molida wasn't great but edible. I didn't eat much of it. The rest of the dish was delicious... freshly fried thin plantain with thinly sliced cabbage, a light salsa roja, pickled beets and onions and a mixture of tomato, onion and bell pepper. It was refreshing although the tajadas were fried. Def can be a two person dish! Also tried agua de guanábana and it was bomb. Def very filling, homey food. Will be back to try the pollo catracho, casamiento and the sopa de camarón con coco!

Yelp
Love the baleadas and pollo con tajadas! Mi lugar favorito. La comida se demora un poco pero vale la pena. Y los precios son justos! You need to try!

Yelp
My candid opinion on my order. This restaurant satisfied my hunger for a delicious Honduran dish. We place our order for the chicken catracho and the shrimp soup with coconut milk. The flavor of the soup was perfect. The chicken had a great flavor and was crunchy. There's a sauce on the tajadas that takes you to culinary paradise. 10/10, in my opinion.

Yelp
HORRIBLE SERVICE UGH, but the food is absolutely amazing, i ordered two traditional baleadas and the pollo en tajadas, I went with my mom for the first time today and had a horrible experience with a waitress, i called in advance to order and eat in the restaurant and on the phone i asked if i could have the sour cream on the side because i don't like sour cream but my mom does. when we get there our food was ready and we noticed they didn't give us our sour cream on the side that we asked for. the waitress said , the one who spoke to you is new she didn't know, but no you can't put it on the side that's a separate order in a very rude way. my mom was like okay fine whatever but think about it the baleadas come with sour cream WE JUST DONT WANT IT INSIDE like why did she make it so complicated and aggravating! later on it was time to pay. when i received my bill she only asked if it was credit or debit, i said credit, when i got my receipt she asked me to sign and i noticed she was charging me 2 extra dollars for using my credit card which she never mentioned to me about. i told her you never told me it would be two extra dollars, if i wouldve known I would've payed in cash. (there isn't a single sign in the restaurant that says that extra money would be charge for using a debit or credit card) she said okay that's fine and snatched the pen and receipt out of my hand and stormed off without saying anything else. my mom and i didn't feel comfortable leaving the place without putting the amount of money we were going to pay and without my signature. so we're waiting in the front to tell someone what just happened and they have the hardest time finding her to come to the registry to confront and ask her what happened. when she finally showed up after avoiding us she acted oblivious like if nothing happened and we confronted her in front of the staff. we're confronting her that she shouldn't of treated us so rude and with a nasty attitude, she kept fighting back with us and said oh i'll pay you the money and we made it clear that it wasn't about the money that bothered us, it was her attitude and when i start realizing the receipt copy she had that was ours i take a look! SHE FORGED MY SIGNATURE OH MY GOD I WAS FURIOUS and the funniest part is response is THATS NOT ILLEGAL LIKE WHAT?! laughing too like how immature and arrogant do you have to be to deny the fraud you just committed. not only did she charge more money that she didn't tell me was i was going to be charged but she stormed off saying that's fine and forging my own signature after i didn't even write anything down. it's a shame the bad experience i had they need to hire more considerate people and with the right attitude because it's not our fault she was having a day of dealing with troubling customers. thank you for reading my experience i share this to notify that yes the food is amazing just don't order to eat there lol.everyone else was very helpful and nice we just got bad luck with our server/ waitress

Muy buen lugar para ir con la familia. La comida Deliciosa! El pollo con tajadas me encantó, las baleadas también muy ricas, las enchiladas, y una sopa que lleva coco le encantó a mi hijo. Yelp
Horrible horrible service. $12.50 on 2 baleadas & a drink . Lady forced me to pay literally I didn't wanna pay and I had my son I didn't want to make a scene. Hope this place burns

Yelp
Abigail la mesera de la noche tiene una mal actitud y empezó a limpiar con fabulosa cuando habíamos personas comiendo

Yelp
Take forever but food is delicious. Call one hour ahead of take out. If you dine in go with no time frame expectations.
google avatar

Genesis M.

Yelp
Not authentic - cheese is not Hondurean. & the serving is not portion to the torilla.

Elizabeth A.

Yelp
This place was okay , what they do need to improve is seasoning . I did order for pick up so the lady infront was very nice.

Jose J.

Yelp
Very good authentic , food taste like from Honduras and friendly waiters also recommend

Yelp
Hablé y hablé y nomás contestan el teléfono y no dicen nada. Se escuchan hablar entre ellas. Mal servicio tiene ahi

Edward N.

Yelp
I am not going to lie they have really good food but they treat the consumers bad me and my friend ordered two more plates the brought them all wrong and when we asked they got mad then we ordered three orders to go they just gave us 2 of them after that we called them and they said is not their fault Pollo Con Tajadas.
google avatar

Marco E.

Yelp
I enjoyed coming here and ordered my food and it turned out all great. Everything here is all Honduran, which is what the restaurant represents. Only minor downside is pay8ng with card. They charge a fee for it as the last time I ate at the restaurant, they charged me $10 more. Overall, it's good.

Irma B.

Yelp
Sabor catracho garantizado! Me ha costado mucho encontrar un restaurante que tenga el mismo sazón que honduras. Creo que es uno de los mejores restaurantes hondureños en LA County
google avatar

Maria L.

Yelp
I have been coming to this establishment for so many years and the service has been okay, however during my last visit I received the rudest service. The waitress that attended us that day charged my husband $5.00 for a measly side of jalapenos!!! We also notified her that the men's restroom was filthy and the hand washing sink in there had throw up in it. She did not do anything about it, which really goes to show how much they care about hygiene. Do not come to eat at this disgusting restaurant!

Yelp
I love this place. The Fried Chicken plate is Delicioso. This place has the home style cooking feeling. Definitely not the commercialized main stream cooking. The fried chicken is well seasoned and has a crispy coating, the meat is full of flavor and drizzled with a dressing that gives that extra kick. It comes with a side of fresh fried plantain chips and cortido, making it an amazing dish. The restaurant is split in half. One half is the restaurant side and the other side is a dance floor. I haven't been to the restaurant in the evening to see how it gets. But if your out there looking for an authentic Honduran dish, this is definitely the place to visit.

Juan C.

Yelp
El restaurante esta pero bueno todos los q dicen q no me pelan la p*ja ni catrachos an de ser
google avatar

Yelp
Very flavorful food. The chicken was a bit dry for Mae and the wait was kinda of long for a lunch break. Overall fair prices and delish food. I loved the plantains and beans and rice with coconut milk. I'll definitely be back!!

Yazmin S.

Lupe P.

Yelp
I came to casa Honduras since it's close to my house! Called the order in and waited for over 2 hrs and they had the never to tell me my order was just put in. They need to have more cooks are be more accurate when they giving you the time ..
google avatar

Mirna L.

Yelp
First of all customer service sucks. They are rude and not attentive at all. I ordered tajadas de pollo and tajadas de Res both portions were very small for the price I paid. If only they would've chopped up the meat for me I received idk what part of the chicken full and a piece of steak on top of plantains if I didn't live so far I would've returned it and ask for a full refund I felt ripped off 35 dollars never again would I waste my money there
google avatar

Fo K.

Yelp
Absolutely the best Honduran food I've ever eaten in my life. Flavors are outstanding prices are great and the people are very nice. The new construction is going to make this place look amazing!
google avatar

Lilly D.

Yelp
Food was good . Baleadas are like so so . But the service was bad B A D! That's why am giving it 2 stars!
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
First time having Honduran food and love it. Very different from Mexican food, that's for sure. Prices great, live music, wonderful atmosphere. I had the conch coconut soup which was amazing. Lots of flavor, and portions huge. The drawback is that this is CASH only place...so be prepared!!!
google avatar

Myrna R.

Yelp
I love this place. The service is fantastic. The food is out of this world. Try the Honduran breakfast with carne asada. The flour tortillas are amazing. They were so cute...my hubby asked for a large glass of milk with his dinner. They brought it warmed up...actually hot. I thought that was so cute. Anyway if you're in these neck of the woods this place is worth trying. It won't disappoint. The music is cool too

Rosa L.

Yelp
I'm very picky and selective trying other regions food and I must say I was impressed very great food

Maria V.

Yelp
Menu has no prices, portions are small, they're very busy no customer service at all, sopa de caracol was good but very small for the price.,..
google avatar

Dalia G.

Yelp
The food was pretty good honestly, flavorful sort of salty and the service was just ok the waitress just took the order and didn't really care after but oh man the wait was awful we waited about hour to get our food and we didn't really feel welcomed there to beginning with and for what we paid it wasn't worth it so it's a NO for us to dine here again.
google avatar

Yady A.

Yelp
Food is bomb here! I've ate here a few times. The only down side about this place is that it could take from 30-45 min for the food to be ready. But, I'd say it's worth it. :)
google avatar

Sandra N S.

Yelp
Bomb food! Great service! Good prices! Great staff! They do take a little long to serve the food, but u can always order over the phone.
google avatar

Estrella I.

Yelp
Food is OK. Service OK. The day I went they said cash only so I had to use the ATM inside I found that inconvenient since they didn't let me know ahead of time.
google avatar

Cristhian R.

Yelp
The place to go if your catracho and really love pollo con tajadas or una deliciousas baliadas!
google avatar

Ann D.

Yelp
This restaurant is just around the corner from where I live. I have walked by it several times but didn't go in until just recently. I am so glad that I did go in. This place is the bomb. The food is excellent and the customer service was on point. I will be coming back again and again

Omar L.

Yelp
This was my favorite place ever... but now is horrible I don't know who's making the food but I'm sure my little baby can make better food I got the worst baleadas ever, and the pollo con tajadas was bad too chicken was super dry. No worth it anymore.
google avatar

Simply_ D.

Yelp
I have only gone to go eat fried chicken with plains, delicious.. would give it a 5 , this guy waiter always rude .
google avatar

Yelp

Yelp
where do I start. Parking: there is plenty, the parking is spacious but ok the weekends it might get packed so just prepare to park on the street, which there is plenty there too. Inside: there are many tables but the booths get taken faster. it gets pretty packed especially on the weekends. There is also merchandise for soccer fans like jerseys that you may purchase there too. Food: the food is delicious, freshly made, typical Honduran food. They prepare the dishes really well with all the necessary condiments you will need. it does take a bit of time for you to get your food since it's being done on the spot. Service: the servers are super nice and amiable, makes you feel right at Home, the only thing is that one of the servers forgot our drinks and was giving the other people there's. I'm guess she just forgot since they had a lot of people but that was the only issue there. Night: I know I came here years ago at night to dance. I'm not sure how it still is, but when I came it was pretty incredible, incredibly packed but the music was pippin, good party environment that's for sure.

Yelp
Just left really disappointed. I waited 15 min for a cold ass burrito with everything but what i asked for. The meat was red and cold. The cheese was actual cheese slices you use for a grilled cheese sandwich, just diced up. The tortilla was hard as fuck. All I asked for was a steak and avocado burrito with lettuce and tomato and got the nastiest shit in return. Nasty ass Mexican joint.

Jamie C.

Yelp
Ordered some caldo de res today pretty good. Hand made tortillas. I would give it a 5 but i didnt eat it... it was for my kids. They ate. Plus theyre local and fast
google avatar

Xeno R.

Yelp
We went in to try the food, we go on and order to eventually get a soda. We would wait half an hour and keep waiting till we just left. We left after seeing some other people get at least chips for waiting, while we stayed half an hour with only a soda.
google avatar

Suzy H.

Yelp
I like the food. but serving time takes FOREVER !
google avatar

Linda P.

Yelp
Love the food the wait was long but due to the fresh food I belive. Will keep coming back for more
